Going fast is easy, stopping is the part that scares people.

No one mentioned LOOK WHERE YOU WANT TO GO that is the most important thing everyone from racers to beginners need to do

Agreed, just do it. I got my Ls and lived around 80/100kph roads so I had no option but to do those speeds the first real ride I ever went on and I don’t regret it at all. Helped me learn more than the average rider in the city would’ve.

You did mention braking, I think that's one of the biggest factors about being nervous at higher speeds where riders aren't confident with slowing the bike down. Generally speaking, people are generous with the throttle but are sloppy with their braking technique. Progressive braking, threshold braking, and emergency braking from increasingly higher speeds will make you a lot more comfortable when going faster as you know you can trust the bike to slow you down for an obstacle or an upcoming corner.

100% If you enter a corner a little too fast and you don't know how to gently apply brakes while turning you're in for a bad time.

I have been riding for 20 years and if I could give 1 piece of advice is only buy and ride a bike with traction control and ABS regardless of the power the bike. I still accidently activate the ABS very rarely when braking as sometimes you don't fully realise how fast you're actually going until you need to stop or slow down quickly. Traction control has saved my ass many times as the road REALLY is slippery in the wet and us riders learn that the hard way. The white paint on the road is extremely slippery and I ride a 1000cc superbike so the rear tire has a much higher chance of losing traction so to not bin it on the road use the technology on bikes to your advantage.

I've found that a lot of things I've thought about while learning to ride I've overthought, things like going at higher speeds, rev matching, turning (or counter-steering) are very instinctual after you've experienced them a few times. That being said I don't think it's a good idea to go out without practice of course but letting your mind manifest something into being more complicated than it is won't get you as far as just practicing, learning and pushing yourself to get over that fear

I don't think people have a fear of going fast on a bike I think it's everyone else on the road they're scared of.

Wow here in South Australia its 2 half days of only carpark riding in their ride safe tennis court, you maybe it 40kph if ur lucky. Thats it so when I first rode on the road it was like whoa soooo much more to be aware of and pay attention to than in the course, thats without adding other cars etc!
Im a few months in and I dont know if ive quite hit 100kph yet, I would have hit mid 90s but I have just been focused on developing my riding skills and simply enjoying the ride more than speed as I know that will come and will crave more so kinda somewhat savoring it for later haha
if I have hit 100 I certainly was not looking at the speedo I was paying attention to the road, I do love the heads up display in the car and can totally see that being integrated into alot of helmets soon enough!
