Alex, when it does start, possibly keeping the choke out say to halfway until it's running for a bit, will stop it from cutting out. All my old cars with chokes liked this.
I've had old VW's for 30 odd years.... I've had a few doing what yours is doing.... Over advanced timing....lazy solenoid...earth strap on gearbox...coil. Good luck 🤞
Hopefully since this was filmed, the starter has been behaving itself ? Might be worth getting a full battery check / test ,, perhaps it's not always giving out enough amps ,? I had a battery once that seemed fine but , particularly on cold damp mornings was not putting out enough amps despite the voltage seeming fine . Safe travels folks ...
I would suspect that it old style starter motor where the motor shaft is supported in the gearbox end where there is a bush. This bush could be worn this causes the starter motor to pole out as the current drains into the coils instead of spinning. Worth checking also if can get a load test on the battery as it may have the voltage but not the amp's. Good luck
That was my thought too, especially if the battery earth is just to the chassis, an extra one to the engine would improve matters anyway. Is it running on 6V? One of those cheap £20.00 battery packs (12V) connected directly to the starter will make it spin a lot faster & won't hurt for short blasts - get you out of trouble until the problem is resolved. Good luck!
I wish you the best of luck, enjoy watching your videos.
All the best for 2023!!
Towing the tractor along on your trip was the obvious solution but you had to fix it the hard way. 🤪 👍 Good luck.
Yay! Love the music, reminds me of Shaken Stevens.

You have left us on the edges of our seats.....did you get to Wales ? Safe travels, great video.
fit a new earth strap. less than a tenner and it may be the problem.

I'll just continue peppering you with annoying questions... what is the little 0-4 gauge on your speedo (shown at 0:27)?
ahhh yes, that's the fuel gauge, that seems to be playing in that clip
@@forwardtothepast2411 I figured, and that makes sense I suppose, but it seems an odd numbering system...
@@mattszostak it's french haha
@@forwardtothepast2411 checks out!
