2:48 Yes! _All_ step sequencers should have live transposition. So frustrating to have to program the same steps for each chord and then switch or chain sequences.
I LOVE my Toraiz, I use it a lot as a sequencer or arpeggiator to control other synths, but it also outputs garbage through MIDI every 5-15 minutes that scrambles your performance. It seems that is something that should be able to be fixed with a Firmware Revision but neither @pioneerdjglobal or @DaveSmithInstruments respond to the user's requests, a shame, as it is AMAZING as a synthesizer AND as a standalone Sequencer/Arpeggiator.
@@soundlabsounddesign9392 that's pretty bad. Too many companies sling things over the fence and do their best to avoid their customers when there are problems - a great way to lose customers.
@@soundlabsounddesign9392 Damn! Now I understand my mfb TanzMaus going crazy every now and then when slaved to the Toraiz has nothing to do with my particular unit!!
I believe you can use a midi-to-sync converter to get the 606 integrated with other machines. I hope. lol. I just ordered one so take it with a grain of salt. Nice video, thanks!! Also that cassette stuff youre doing is so cool
Thanks. It can be done with the Original SH-101, with Behringer's MS-1 & TD-3, and other analog synths that have a trigger or sync input with a sequencer :)
Great video. I love this synth and it sounds amazing, but I can never get the arpeggiator or sequencer to midi sync with my 6 other DSI / Sequential synths or with my Tempest drum machine. It's always 1 BPM or a .5 BMP off. Even I'm lucky enough to match the beat for a moment, it drifts off. It's very frustrating. Unfortunately, I don't think my Tempest or any other synths can send a trigger.
It happened to me too. I did find a solution it had something to do with one of the MIDI Clock modes but I was able to fix it. Let me see what it was and will get back to you :)
@@soundlabsounddesign9392 can you report on the midi sync as I'm yet to see anyone who was able to get over it. Another issue seems to be when using it as master to sequence external gear it eventually scrambles the midi out as well :( Regarding trigger in, while that works slightly more reliably than midi, you cant transpose the sequencer anymore which is a major bummer. Eventually I end up using it as a sound module with my carbon sequencer which is a shame. Feedback highly appreciated as I love how this thing sounds!
I’m potentially in the market for one of these (Sept 2021) but really bummed to hear about the midi issues. Can you confirm if they have been fixed yet?!
im curious what camera you mainly use for overhead video, im trying to make educational videos of my synths and jam videos and my iphone just aint cuttin it lol
If you use it as a sound module it is beautiful, the issues that it has are that the sequencer will slightly lose sync when changing patterns and when sending MIDI notes out from the AS-1 it will send garbage notes that may leave some notes hanging on your external (slave) synth.
uuh and I forgot to ask ... what about its syninc issues ? Are they some how fixed ? Personally for me I'm near to the buy, but arps are quite important for me to be running in parallel with external sewuencers...... ( don't need the interal deep sequencer of the as-1 sincerelly but arps yes ) .
It depends on how you use it, Arps won't go out of sync, you just enable the arp button (or save it in the patch) and send the chord/notes from your external sequencer and you are good to go. Just clock it externally through midi or CV triggers. It has a place by my Moog Source, and Yamaha CS-15 and it is my TR-606's faithful companion.

when stepping in the notes, does it always default to middle c? Can't you write the sequence with it already transposed down? It seems cumbersome to have to write in a higher octave. Only to then transpose it down.
You can write the notes any way you want, middle C would be the normal state of the keyboard but you can enter the notes some octaves down or up (with the octave button) or with an external keyboard.
@@soundlabsounddesign9392 I would think if you were writing a baseline, you would transpose the keyboard down, and then write the sequence. But instead you wrote the sequence at a higher octave and then transposed it down.5:37 Does my question make sense? Why not just write the bassline in the notes you want played? In other words transpose down first, then write the bass line? In other words, can you write the sequence with the octave already lit and shifted down?
Yes and no, yes, because the next note will be triggered by the next trigger, so it has to be changed before to ‘catch’ the trigger. And I say No, because with MIDI when you change the pattern it changes immediately, so with the trigger sync stays tighter.
So, am audio signal can be used as a trigger safely? I ask because audio has negative current as well as positive whereas dedicated trigger signals are only positive (as far as I know)...
Yes, there's LFO to OSC1 & OSC2 frequencies, you can even modulate OSC1 Freq with OSC2, and even more, you can assign the slider to affect OSC1 & 2 frequencies separately by different amounts and also the LFO amount so while running a sequence (or playing).
It would be amazing if Sequential would produce a shell with knobs and keyboard where you could place the Toraiz as the engine to have a PRO AS-1. But one can only dream 😅
