Percussion Synthesizer or Sample? Can you hear the difference?
Просмотров 3084 года назад
I was curious to see if there was a major sound difference between triggering/playing patterns on a percussion synthesizer (Pearl SC-40) triggered by an MPC, and playing the same patterns with the same sounds but sampled into the MPC2000XL. Can you hear any differences? Which one do you like and why? 00:10 Intro 01:24 3 Different Patterns (Sound A & B) 02:38 Individual sound comparison 04:10 Outro

The Toraiz AS-1 is a huge sounding Mono Synthesizer, designed by Dave Smith Instruments and delivered by Pioneer, its sequencer can be a lot of fun if used properly, in this video I show how to synchronize with other gear using the Trigger In. This technique can be applied to many analog sequencers that have a Trigger Input. .... 00:00 Intro 00:11 About the Toraiz AS-1 01:28 Some Program Preset...

Génial 🎉
Muy bacán gracias
So what's the answer? A sounds like the SC40 to me.
Man, that’s one of the coolest things I ever saw!
Hi, could we have the answer ? Thanks
For me the answer is B for the SC40, the tail and the depth seem to change at every trigger. Could we have the answer @soundlab design ? Thanks
Elektrix wins in general, very clean sound, but ensoniq was great
The ensoniq sounds incredible
is A the SC40? very subtle difference between the twos. let me please know
I believe you can use a midi-to-sync converter to get the 606 integrated with other machines. I hope. lol. I just ordered one so take it with a grain of salt. Nice video, thanks!! Also that cassette stuff youre doing is so cool
Really interesting video. Must have taken a lot of time and effort. Muchos gracias hombre 😊
Seems you know some things - would it be possible to ope it - wire all potentiometers to a chip and send cc messages from it to a daw? Or is there any difference in comparison to use just "blank Potentiometeres" without anything attached
Vey well done. Personally I would have used Bluetooth for the midi then it would have been able to communicate with iPads etc wirelessly for sequencing purposes.
Very cool! I laughed my ass off at your loud ass cat!
Still loud!!😂
Man the ensoniq mirage is the sampler that came out in 1984???
That's the one.
That Mirage sounds gnarly
damn that mirage sounds so crunchy and nice
Much Thanks for the shootout.
what's the point of changing the trigger count though? it just changes the release of each note on the as-1
If you program 8 notes (in your synth’s sequencer) and 3 triggers per bar in the 606, it will take 8 bars to land on the sequencer’s first note again. Variation.
@@soundlabsounddesign9392 ohhh.
When you change programs, it looks like you have to get in sync manually and hit the as-1 keyboard in perfect time, is that correct?
Yes and no, yes, because the next note will be triggered by the next trigger, so it has to be changed before to ‘catch’ the trigger. And I say No, because with MIDI when you change the pattern it changes immediately, so with the trigger sync stays tighter.
when stepping in the notes, does it always default to middle c? Can't you write the sequence with it already transposed down? It seems cumbersome to have to write in a higher octave. Only to then transpose it down.
You can write the notes any way you want, middle C would be the normal state of the keyboard but you can enter the notes some octaves down or up (with the octave button) or with an external keyboard.
@@soundlabsounddesign9392 I would think if you were writing a baseline, you would transpose the keyboard down, and then write the sequence. But instead you wrote the sequence at a higher octave and then transposed it down.5:37 Does my question make sense? Why not just write the bassline in the notes you want played? In other words transpose down first, then write the bass line? In other words, can you write the sequence with the octave already lit and shifted down?
That is the most creative use of a tape multi tracker i have seen in forever. Bravo!
Thank you!
uuh and I forgot to ask ... what about its syninc issues ? Are they some how fixed ? Personally for me I'm near to the buy, but arps are quite important for me to be running in parallel with external sewuencers...... ( don't need the interal deep sequencer of the as-1 sincerelly but arps yes ) .
It depends on how you use it, Arps won't go out of sync, you just enable the arp button (or save it in the patch) and send the chord/notes from your external sequencer and you are good to go. Just clock it externally through midi or CV triggers. It has a place by my Moog Source, and Yamaha CS-15 and it is my TR-606's faithful companion.
Thank you for your reply . I personally appreciate that kept it and love it. I understand you so much..... My portable equip. is made korg monologue, synthstrom deluge, Waldorf blofeld + a keyboard cntrl & a microphone recorder, and a feel missing only a poly knobby synth between deluge and blofeld, and a very extensive bass/lead line between monologue and deluge. So finally , because I have to dig a lot already in blofeld and deluge I opted to buy a second hand MFB Dominion Club , which is even quite rare. It took space near to monologue, at the place of the Toraiz , with all the respect for the DSI/Pioneer product, which is deep and good but I have prefered to truly have a body experience when I play constantly with subs, basses and leads. have a good music, fabio
genial amigo gracias!
im curious what camera you mainly use for overhead video, im trying to make educational videos of my synths and jam videos and my iphone just aint cuttin it lol
Sony A6000, so that is just an old basic model of that line :)
que buena combinación, ambos suenan de 10!
espectacular video, excelente instrumento, algún día me gustaría probar uno, muchas gracias!
If only would have an other type of body, form factor , it would THE bass synth .... But .
It would be amazing if Sequential would produce a shell with knobs and keyboard where you could place the Toraiz as the engine to have a PRO AS-1. But one can only dream 😅
@@soundlabsounddesign9392 yes, there was a period that Sequential tried to be near to the requests and desires of the pubblic ( tetra , Tempest ) . Now they came back to the elitarian voice. Let's see if they gonna work something in the right time, if not Behringer will take their place soon .
I love filters. Excellent video.
😍😍🥲🥲
Great idea :) Thanks
I love it!
The best on you tube as1 insight Thank you and would like the software insight from you The best 🙏🏿 thank you 😊
Can you do a video where it's modular and we don't have to take apart a piece of hardware that would be awesome great video by the way
Acabo de pedir el model D y me topo con esto, muy buen trabajo bro te luciste !!
I've noticed on my MPC the samples always sound much more cold & punchy than the original source material.
2000xl?
Claro, y muy bien explicado. Gracias por compartir. Info super útil. Tremendo sintetizador analógico.
i recommend 1/2" baltic birch plywood. more expensive, but it lasts forever and looks great. the cheeks you're putting together at 3:38 look like they might split if mishandled. plywood is stronger across different directions of stress.
Which one is better in your opinion, Filter Queen or Warp9? I can get one of those.
I'd go for the Warp9. The Warp9 has a great sound, is quirky and harder to come by it also has a lot of simultaneous modulation and triggering options (MIDI+Audio+CV), it is mono and the interface is badly implemented, as you have to control 15 parameters with the same 5 knobs so when going to the next row and moving the knobs, you lose the view of the settings you had on the previous row. I see it more as a studio /production tool. The Filter Queen is simpler, it is stereo and sounds cleaner, the envelope follower has a nice response and it is fun use a mix of Env Follow with LFO. The FQ does not sync or respond to MIDI and you can use CV to control the filter (0 to 12v) as long as you use a floating ring cable. And if you use a three button footswitch you can -Tap tempo/enable disable Env Follow and bypass- It is also simpler to use in a live setting.
@@soundlabsounddesign9392 thanks!
Which kick did you use for the intro?
I process my sounds in many ways, I think that one was a regular kick and I recorded saturating a cassette tape at high speed (9.5) and then played back at half speed to gain weight.
are you selling that?
It’s a brilliant synth with a great sound engine
Que modelo de tu teclado es exactamente?
Ok now remove everything and vernish it please ;)
