This synth is way not getting the attention it deserves. I bought one a few weeks back, it seriously rocks, using it on its own, and as as a sequencer for other synths. Totally happy with it.
Awesome demo here. Some of the demos out there just cycle through bass sounds (many of which just sound the same). It's just really refreshing to hear what this thing can do in mid and upper regions. I remember way way back when I had a novation bass station and suddenly realized I could do monosynth sounds on it like artificial moog-is string sound etc. These days I have tons of synths, and I sold the bass station because, for me, it had no "body" to it, but even though I have enough gear to easily fill a room I keep getting haunted by the AS-1.
I just got a SQUID. I am controlling a Pro3 and Subsequent37 and all other synths in my studio. This AS-1 almost eluded me due to the Pioneer label. But because of the SQUID, I happened on this just to check it out. Sounds AMAZING. I am an original Pro1 owner, and this sounds incredible. Maybe there is not a ModMatrix, but the oscillators and filters sound incredible. And the effects are very good. I don't usually even use them but these are really good. This was a GREAT demonstration as well. Peace. 😎
tblv9300 Ahh now that’s a fantastic camera. I was at the launch event last year, it’s really amazing value for what you get, picture quality and colours are incredible. Just me though, I’m too old school, I really need a camera with a viewfinder :(
Really nice demo, thanks for that! I don't have that much space and want to have an Elektron sequencer in the middle surrounded by some small but tweakable and good sounding boxes. I do get why people like the Moog sound, but in all honesty this single Prophet 6 voice can easily hold its own against the famous (tweaked) Taurus oscillators and filter of the Moog Sirin which I recently got. And this AS-1 is so much more flexible in terms of sound design! Honestly don't know if I'll keep the Sirin since thankfully there's a used AS-1 up for sale for a really good price. And you just convinced me to get it :)
@@tblv9300 Jep. Got mine for about $780 in mint condition including a decksaver cover and the original packaging, so a pretty good deal I'd say. Guess I should be able to easily sell it for that price. Could go with a little less since I've used it once or twice (it's really quite nice, but doesn't tick as many boxes as the AS-1). I could also ask more for it, but I don't want to be a scalper. You seem to have had a lot of gear too. Do you have a favourite non-vintage synth? I think overall mine would be the Digitone. For pure sound I would go with the Prophet 10 though.
I try to never keep gear too long. right now i just found an emx-1 and did the tube bypass mod. didn’t want the hiss of the valves. favorite all in one box was deluge favorite cheap poly would probably be the reface cs. similar to what you were saying I’m looking for a small desktop mono with knobs that has a sequencer and trigger in and then pair it with a tr-06 since it has so many trig outs.
@@tblv9300 Have fun with that :) I try to use what I have. If I never make music with a piece of gear, I sell it. The Deluge looks powerful, but also a bit fiddly to use. For me grooveboxes usually revolve around the sound (which the deluge delivers) and the workflow (which one usually has to experience in person). Had the Reface and liked its sound, but I didn't like the steppy filter, the awkward sequencer, the limited lfo and the single fx slot. If Yamaha had replaced the sequencer with the preset selection from the DX (which I still have and like a lot) I might have kept it. I think the UNO Synth Pro Desktop fits your description. Its CV inputs can be used for clock and gate, the latter of which acts as start/stop for the sequencer.
Grandaddy from the 28 days later OST? Recognize many others as well. You have good taste. Love the AS-1, probably one of the best mono synths I’ve ever owned. Its sound is better than 1/6th Prophet 6, probably dis to the extra headroom. Hope they do a KB version at some point.
Love your programming. Please borrow another Alpha Juno and make a nice soundset for it. It's a very capable synth in the right hands, but oh so frustrating for most (me)
The AS-1 lets you set the note priority (low, high, last etc) In that clip i had it set to high and as soon as i released the higher note it retriggered the lower held note
Awesome. Any external effects used in the recording? Sounds like some reverb added maybe. Also, it would be awesome if you put up a set of the patches for sale :)
Man, this features some very freaky patches. Nice to see, that you use this synth. Soundwise it's great, but I'm not sure if the Interface would please me. How did you program the synth?
how smooth do you find using the mod wheel for the AS-1's parameters? wish there was a port for expression pedal or CV, obviously the digital connectivity is nice, but a shame to lack the direct control over more then one feature
With this setup my mod wheel can affect up to 6 parameters at once. whatever you have assigned in the lfo section of the editor. And the latchable touch strip on the as-1 can alter 7 parameters simultaneously
what i was getting at is that the touch strip can control the parameters directly as analog, whereas to connect anything else to control it it has to work on the digital brain, which is relatively low resolution. For plenty of stuff of course it doesnt matter, but higher resonance filter movements certainly show their stepping often in these types of situations.
@@tblv9300 Will you be re-creating and/or potentially these presets? Your programming skills are fantastic and I'm sure more than a few users would buy them. Condolences for losing this original set as they are brilliant.
It's a fully featured Prophet 6 basically (just mono obviously) so yeah every parameter is editable. Or use the Soundtower editor which is free. There is a payware version too but it doesn't seem worth it to me even though it comes with a librarian feature (which would definitely be useful). It's fully automatable as well. Every parameter can be automated in Pro Tools (or whatever you use). In my opinion this is probably the best synth around. It has everything you'd want for modern music production. It sounds sublime (Those filters are simply awesome.). Studio class effects section. Full automation support etc etc. And you can get them for less than $500 USD. It's the modern day Pro One basically for around $400. Great times we live in.
rudiger I agree. The Pro One is my favorite mono of all time (I’m a huge Yazoo fan) and every Mono I’ve tried (sans the MS20) has not been up to par for whatever reason. Listening to these presets, and the reviews I’ve read, it seems like the AS-1 is the synth I’ve always been looking for. What an underrated gem.
@@HotStrange Totally underrated. If you love the Pro One you should definitely pick this up. It's very similar except you get the SSM filter that was in the Rev2 Prophet 5. (I think the Pro One had a CEM filter but don't quote me on that please.) Which, to my ears, sounds a little sweeter. I certainly prefer it anyway. And if you think about how modern music production works it's basically all about automation. This synth nails both the sound and automation and that's a really, really big deal in my opinion. Pull the trigger mate. You'll love it. :)
When Trees Will Rule The World Again It’s been a few months but I have it on my cart now. Just waiting a couple weeks to pay some things off and it’ll be mine :) can’t wait! A lot of power under that hood.
Did you create these patches with the SoundTower pro app? As the others have stated would you be willing to sell your patches? What you've done here is recreated some amazing synth sounds that are really astounding. Of course you play just as well love the "Top Gun" tune.
This has a sequencer, and more editable parameters than the Monologue does. Both are great synths but the AS-1 definitely “has more sounds”. Whatever that means.

Wow! Great stuff!
I'd written off the Toraiz as not for me but this video is making me re-think that!
Keep up the good work!
2:40 ish, MAN, I could listen to that all day
Love that line at about the 1:00 mark. Reminded me of a John Williams melody, like maybe something from Hook

This uses Prophet 6 filter... not the Curtis. For that, makes an excellent mono synth!
A ballzier sound then the dominion club, but it has the state variable filter, but this has the variable oscillator waveforms, plus the triangle subs
agreed
Also has 2 filters with resonance and EG for each!
Nice Grandaddy patch at 2:22. Underrated band. You’re s great programmer also.
