Thank you for talking the time to share this information. I often need setting triangles that are bigger than the common sizes on the charts that around. It's nice to not have to have to dust off the geometry to get it done.😂
Heelllooo! First time to see your video “the back to basics “, the antique quilts with the little squares IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL QUILTS” I’ve been watching quilt videos for about 3 years-have have bought 4 second hand sewing machines - 1 might work -/ some day before I die I hope to sew a quilt / I love crazy quilts with velvet & embroidery . You are the best - -so happy & grateful to find you - now I need a decent running machine( I’m 65 years old - Kate in Arizona 👩🏼💻🌵🙏🌷
Hey Kaye, where have you been hiding? Glad I found you and love your your straight talk teaching. Thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing. At 75 I still love learning.
Your not alone I’m 65 and I learned so much from Watching Kaye - I love her thinking & style - now I need a machine machine that works ! 😊👩🏼💻🌵🌷🥀❤️👍Kate in Arizona
Newbie here. (18months!) I LOVE how you explain everything. Thank you so much for helping us. There is so much to learn and I want to try everything. I think I'm addicted to this new hobby.
I have made quilts since 10 years from time to time - now I know I have no clue for sure 😂 Your reactions are thrilling 😮 Thank you - now I would have more fun to make quilts. Love from Austria 🇦🇹
What fun to have stumbled on you and your channel! 😊 I hope you are well, and I see you have a new fabric line! My first of yours! Thank you God for fun people! See you in heaven some day! God bless you always! ❤️
I’ve just started following you and I’m amazed with the amount of useful information and tips! Thank you so much for sharing! You are really generous to teach us so much! Best wishes from Brazil 🇧🇷
Kaye, I bought one of your quilts off the website. I am here to tell you that you sure know what you're doing. I turned that quilt over and looked at the binding and can't see the thread from your hand sewing of that binding. It is such a beautiful vibrant quilt. I am so glad I bought it.
I am glad to have found you! You are giving a wealth of quilting theory and highly useful information that can make a piecer more independent. Thank you so much. Your style is entertaining and I am enjoying you so much.
Thank you so much! Best explanation I’ve seen on the setting triangles. I’m so grateful for you taking the time to make your instructional videos. Have a great day, you’ve started mine off with a smile already.
Pythagoras gives us the most basic quilting--that when taped to the wall can be referenced easily. Two numbers needed to remember, the square root of 2 and seam allowance for size computations of the square for the QST for Side Setting Triangles (SST) or the HST for the Corner Setting Triangles (CST). Square root of 2 = 1.414 It is either the multiplier or the divisor depending on what you are solving for. The diagonal of a square is exactly 1.414 times the side of the square. (Multiplier when you know the side measure of the square but not the diagonal) If you know the diagonal, but not the square size , divide the diagonal by 1.414 to get the size of the square. (Divisor when you know the diagonal of the square but not the side of the square. To calculate the HST/QST with appropriate seam allowance CST = HST Seam Allowance: .875 SST = QST Seam Allowance: 1.25 Math to calculate the Squares for cutting our SST or CST is below. Round up to the nearest 1/4" ---------------------------------- *Side Setting Triangles* (SST)/QST: We are calculating the hypotenuse (diagonal) of our square as we know the sides of the square by the finished measure of the neighboring square. Calculation: FB x 1.414 + 1.25 = Size of square Cut 2x diagonal. (Yield = 4 SST's) You can cut these from strips by dividing answer by 2 to calculate strip size and using your triangle ruler to cut. ---------------------------------------------------- *Corner Setting Triangle* (CST)/HST: The sides of the neighbor square is the diagonal of our CST (the FB in our equation). We need to compute the shorter side of the square so 1.414 is our divisor. Straight of grain is on two sides, the diagonal is bias. Calculation: FB/1.414 + .875 = Square to cut and 1 x diagonal cut to yield 2 CST's
I just found your page and I love your humor and teachings! I’m going to practice starting with the 4 patch and work my way up. I’ve only been sewing for a little while but enjoy it so much! Keep those videos coming!
Thank you for your videos I recently found you and am learning so much. I wish someone would focus on snowballing. Everyone says "just sew on the line and flip". Well that doesn't work out very well most times especially if you're looking for accuracy. If you've done a video on this I would love to see it, thank you. 💗
Just found your channel. Oh my gosh, I’m binge watching. Love your jacket that you’re wearing with the beautiful embroidery. Did you make it? It’s absolutely beautiful. Oh, I love the quilts behind you too. Just adore them.
Quilt mysteries abound… Did that lost quilt ever find its way home to you? Might seem silly but I often wonder about the lost Roosevelt Rose quilt from the 1930’s.
Dear Kaye, What about instead of calculating and cutting corner we just add another square in that place while piecing the face, and just straight the edges when done by cutting the excess of the squares ? Have you ever tried that ?
Thank you for talking the time to share this information. I often need setting triangles that are bigger than the common sizes on the charts that around. It's nice to not have to have to dust off the geometry to get it done.😂

Thank you - first on point quilt ever and it worked perfectly.
You make the most beautiful quilts ! You are an excellent teacher and easy to understand 💕
This video is pure gold. Love you. Thanks sooo much.
Thank you ! What joy to see you and hear you again. I love your plain, simple, straight forward tips and tricks. I LOVE IT!!
What fun to have stumbled on you and your channel! 😊

What pattern is that and what was the tutorial you watch?
@@michelleherman5298 I purchased one of Kaye's quilts that are for sale on the website.
I am glad to have found you! You are giving a wealth of quilting theory and highly useful information that can make a piecer more independent. Thank you so much. Your style is entertaining and I am enjoying you so much.
You are pretty amazing. Learning a bit. This is the second time I've watched you.
Kaye, I enjoy your videos so much! You are great! Thank you, thank you, thank you.

(Multiplier when you know the side measure of the square but not the diagonal)
If you know the diagonal, but not the square size , divide the diagonal by 1.414 to get the size of the square. (Divisor when you know the diagonal of the square but not the side of the square.
To calculate the HST/QST with appropriate seam allowance
CST = HST Seam Allowance: .875
SST = QST Seam Allowance: 1.25
Math to calculate the Squares for cutting our SST or CST is below. Round up to the nearest 1/4"
----------------------------------
*Side Setting Triangles* (SST)/QST: We are calculating the hypotenuse (diagonal) of our square as we know the sides of the square by the finished measure of the neighboring square.
Calculation: FB x 1.414 + 1.25 = Size of square Cut 2x diagonal. (Yield = 4 SST's)
You can cut these from strips by dividing answer by 2 to calculate strip size and using your triangle ruler to cut.
----------------------------------------------------
*Corner Setting Triangle* (CST)/HST: The sides of the neighbor square is the diagonal of our CST (the FB in our equation). We need to compute the shorter side of the square so 1.414 is our divisor. Straight of grain is on two sides, the diagonal is bias.
Calculation: FB/1.414 + .875 = Square to cut and 1 x diagonal cut to yield 2 CST's
Right.......
This is great - thx for taking the time to share w/ us! 💕🙌

WOW, Kaye! Incorporated borders - thanks soooo much for the reminder. Haven't done one i a very long time. Putting it at the top of the "to do" list.
I LOVE your videos! Thanks for the entertaining and useful information. I look forward to everything you present.
You demonstrate that simple can be beautiful. Love your videos. Thanks.
Thank you for another great video. Your explanation is very clear. I love how you teach, and share your knowledge
Thx
You videos inspire me sooo much. There’s so much I want to do now. I’m excited.
Thank you, I’ll try to set some blocks on point.
Such cute quilts! Thanks for sharing!
This brightened my day! I'm happy I found you Kaye. I'm subscribed now.

I did not but I’m a good shopper. Enjoy your viewing
This is a great idea for my graduating granddaughter!!❤️
Thank you! So, so helpful!
Thanks This was perfect because I am piecing a Chandelier MS quilt and was very confused about the side set triangles!
What is the pink floral plaid fabric used in Ambrosia quilt? That quilt is gorgeous! Love your sense of humor!
It’s an older fabric from an earlier collection years ago. Wish I had yards of it as well
Quilt mysteries abound… Did that lost quilt ever find its way home to you?
Might seem silly but I often wonder about the lost Roosevelt Rose quilt from the 1930’s.
It never did. I choose to hope they all make someone happy.

I’m not sure how that would work but no I have not
lol...go on your calculator and come up with a number that isn't on you ruler. Ha ha
