This exemplifies an era when bands took creative risks, releasing records that demanded multiple listens before revealing their full impact.

That should be imprinted on the Hype sticker!

I haven't caught a live show for ages due to some health issues! I hope to do so soon! This album is in my top 5 German thrash albums ever! Still remember buying this as a spotty faced 19 year old on week of release! Great discussion!

As one of the earliest subscribers for the Ascension of Deathrow to the degree of GTB4 (elbowing the Beer band off, sorry...), i can only cherish this discussion! Es lebe Deathrow!! And i also agree with Marty about their previous, Raging Steel. Regarding Riders of Doom/Satan's Gift, as a debut, in my humble estimation, it is up there, shoulder to shoulder, with Kreator's ''Endless Pain'' (and i'm not even that fond of Mille's gang) and Destruction's Infernal Overkill, the 2 GTB4 best debuts in 85. Sodom have always been my favourite Teutonic Thrash kommando, but, on their first two, they just added DNA to the long and slow inception of 1st wave BM. Love those records but they're not in the same league as ''Persecution mania'' and ''Agent Orange''. Deathrow became my 2nd favourites on account of ''R.o.D'' but mainly for ''Raging Steel''. When i got Deception, on the same day i bought the Brazilian og Cogumelo's edition of Sepultura's Schizophrenia, it was both a surprise and a challenge - had Deathrow become Sieges Even's disciples overnight? Disputing Mekong Delta's gift? It was late 89, there was no web, so you had to rely on international mags or UG zines, and they were very late in promoting the new Deathrow. if i remember well, justice be made to Metal Hammer, for i think it was there i first read a review of Deception ignored. I find Life Beyond, from 92, a decent evidence the band had decided to keep a part of the technical frenzy, combined with the early melodic aggression of the early days. being a good album, it's not so convincing as the first 3. For all this, Deathrow deserve to be on the podium, next to Sodom, Destruction and Kreator, unless we make things easier for Tankard and extend the title to German Thrash Big Six , adding Holy Moses in the process...

When Marty is about to go on a Tangent, I get eager to hear what he has to say 😂.

And then… you are ultimately disappointed. You’re welcome! Haha. Thanks man.
