I'm 23 years old and I've had 5 gbodies (lost one in the LNU fire last year here in California) but I've got a 78 El Camino (TECHNICALLY an A-body for that year), an 82 El Camino, an 85 El Camino (lost my other 85 El Camino in the fire) and an 85 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Brougham. I've been working to get the abandoned 85 Cutlass Supreme Brougham for nearly 10 years and I finally got it. One owner, 42K original miles, has all of the original manuals, and the car is MINT inside and out. Sadly it has the most severe rod knock I've ever heard but for the $1,000 gamble it was, I'm so happy with it. It's going to be a project of mine in the near future
Not a 307 fan, Rev to the moon but no h.p. bad luck with one's I've ran. Had a 406 built for my Streetstock, monster motor, frame twister, locker snapper. Those 442s are great rides. My buddy has a 1968. It's a beast, all original 400 4bbl, 2dr. Gold color. Still cruise main now and then for the hell of it.
I wanted one so bad back in high school. They were around $15k. Might as well been a million when your working part time at $3.35 an hour. The 307 was pretty much the standard. Had a decent amount of get up and go for what it was but…… the interior and ride was like a Cadillac!!!!
I'm surprised being a Minnesota car that's as solid as it is I don't know what it looks like underneath but for somebody that was into cars and wanted that particular one it doesn't look like it would be that bad to fix from the rust that you showed
I’ve jumped, wrecked, blown up and broken my old G-body. A 78 Regal with a 455 and t-type rear which is my first car that I still have. Fun old cars I’ve had several of. BTW, you’re correct about my age group. At least I still don’t have my mullet!

Mad respect for the Old 442's My dad used to race locally 1960's- 1980's. He was a mopar guy and the 442's always give him the biggest challenges in later years. Can't save them all though. People gotta remember this one will still live on parts wise helping to make a more solid car better and that beats the crusher. 👍 Thanks for the video!
Thanks for doing this 85 442 and thank you for pronouncing it correctly… I bought an 88 cutlass g body brand new and really liked it …no t tops though ……wish I still had it …it was much more reliable than the 95 Altima I traded it for….
What you lucky bastard that's one of my favorite cars my mom had one one of these growing up as kids I've been riding in that back seat and getting the hell beat out of me all the time but I love that car and my mom that great memories in it have fun with it
Nice. I’ve owned 3 of those cars so far. None were 442s though. All were great cars even with the gutless 305. I’d love to find another one again. Someone in town has a very nice original 82 442 that comes out a few days every summer. If I remember right he said he bought it brand new.
i had an 86 442 T tops original 307 did the exhaust and rebuilt the Qjet. motor had a slight knock. the 373s with the loose converter smoked the tires up easy but rev range was limited to about 3800rpm Loved the T tops. eventually got the car painted but sold for like 3200 a few months later. this was back in 2009
Mr Mortske, on any given episode, I have been entertained watching you suffer, just like me, while taking apart, undoing, or otherwise fixing old junk. the fact that you suffer or experience discomfort has not essentially been the entertaining factor, rather, I took solace in the fact that I was not the only poor bastard that dropped wrenches, got fluids all over the place and otherwise had an old car make a complete fool of me. More solace taken in the fact that I was not the only one who could look past the rust, darts, gooed up seats, filth, sweet sickening stenches, acorns, wiring about to explode, foolish trifling repairs etc This car was way too easy to bring to life. I wish you well in your endeavors, thanks for all the videos.
Nice one wheel peel! Sad what the 442 turned into just like so many other muscle cars in the 80's. My friend has a 69 442 w30 455 ram air convertible and a 67 442 his dad bought new. Love the mullet wig, classic!
I'm a ford guy but have sorta always had a soft spot for them G-Bodies. Absolutely am a closet Grand National lover and would give up my mustang for a nice clean GN. I think she's worth saving Motske. Alot of aftermarket repair panels for these. At least if the ol' subframe isn't Swiss cheese.
The bottom side may be pretty rusty but this car is a rare beast. She deserves to be put back on the road. I hate when guys buy a car for parts and reason out in their mind it's not worth fixing. It's rarity is reason enough to save it. I've always liked those G bodies. I was looked down upon by some of the older generation for expressing a real interest in a nice maroon Olds Cutlass of this style body back in the late 1980's. I'd like to set that record straight with them now. And I'm guessing the overdrive transmission counts for the 442. Didn't 442 used to mean 4 barrel carb, 4 speed tranny and dual exhaust? 2 outa 3 ain't bad.😁
love your channel,,been tinting cars since 1985....cant even count how many of those rolled in during the 80s.....yup its purple...todays film is far superior....though im old n beat up from decades of hopping in an out of 37k automobiles....i do few jobs a week with a 10yr film....crazy it just wont fade or fish eye..tech has come along way since the 80s...
Bought my first new car in 1985. It was 8K list. The thing I remember about G bodies were the stock rear axle link bushings were too squishy. Always felt like the rear end was loose and disconnected.
i bow to you sir having the holy grail a g body i have owned about 10 currently have a 1987 cutlass t tops with 1983 hurst interior and drivetrain good stuff
Geez, I’m 66 and I remember having a set of Cragars, 225/60 front tires, 245/70 rear tires or some sh-t like that on a camero SS, but that was in ‘73 so my memory is a little hazy. Had a spring-loaded Hurst four speed. You and Peg like that “how dare you” vid. Poor Greta.
You are reading the window sticker incorrectly. The top rectangular area is the base options that came on all Cutlass from that year. The optional equipment on the car in question is listed in the option list below that. So the 3.8 v6 was the base engine for all those cars. Below that it will say 442 and all the options that package offered…
Duff dumped the Cutlass when he smelled the Cutlets on the neighbours grill, thought they'd be a Mister Mister cassette in the dash! Thanks Mortske - entertainment and education.... for free! cheers, Ian.
Videos like this make me miss my 87 Monte Carlo SS with t tops had a good running 350 in it but Had sum machine work done to it put a 400 crank in it and made it a 383 stroker 200R4 transmission fun to drive but hard on the fuel and rear tires lol 🤣
I remember when these were new way beyond my price range at the time...and still are today lol 😆 ended up buying a regular used 81 cutlass model around 86 with the less exciting 267 small block chevrolet but it was a great car for a lot of years and pretty decent on fuel too wish I still had it...good video awesome channel
T-tops are cool. I had a lot of blurry nights in a car just like that in the late 80’s. The hair band background music was perfect. Maybe the T-tops are a generational thing. Those were the thing to have 30 years ago.
My 1980 T/A had T tops and it was in good shape they leaked a bit from the passenger side in the back but they were not rotten or anything it came with the same T top backs as that car too
Don't walk away from this one....it's got some potential.... Not G.O.A.T. BRADY PO, BUT SHE GOT IT.... HAVE SOME FUN WITH IT..... YOU HAVE A GOOD FOUNDATION... Restored, this car could pay for a new Ford tow truck..... Having fun fun with it PRICELESS.....!
Well, my friend, I take my hat off to you. First one to do donuts in a few weeks without conking out.....and its a GM! That engine sounds mighty sweet - good for dropping in the ol' Mortske Marauder (aka the blue Shop Truck). Wonder if you can get a bell-housing adapter to that manual box that's in there, because THAT would spin both back tyres for sure! For what its worth, I could see potential in that thing.....and I began to like it There's something about the big old cruisers with the armchair seats and mile-long hoods that I get why they were popular.....before poor build quality and cheap materials let most of them down and they fell apart.....or rotted out when you parked them for a week. Fords were the same in the 80s.....and yet the Japanese cars were perfect....until the transparently thin metal was exposed to 10 millilitres of water and they rusted faster than a late 70s Lancia or Fiat. My parents had a 1981 Corolla wagon that used to whistle when you drove it, but then I spent one summer driving over nothing but rutted unsealed roads and the whistling stopped, but there was now a stiff breeze blowing through the car with the windows up and the air vents turned off......but I digress I feel that I do have to point out something where I think you went a bit wrong though. White steel wheels look good on nothing.....period. The End. Give them 10 miles in the wet and they turn into grey or brown wheels....and then you wash them and the brown doesn't go away because the paint is chipped and they are now rusting. They never stay looking good (and I am only comparing that 'goodness' with another white steel wheel) for very long, are as heavy as Grandma's fruit cake and make whatever they are attached to look cheap....like the owner couldn't afford real alloys, so welded himself up something on the inside of the standard rim and rattle-canned them. Nope. Don't like them....did you guess? I'd be keen on seeing some of the late 70s to mid eighties land yachts being brought back, mate. Seems to be they are gaining a bit of a following now - probably because every other classic vehicle now requires a second mortgage to buy. If you fall across an El Dorado or Riviera from that era, I'd.....well, to be honest, they all look pretty much the same, but the El Dorado being front wheel drive is probably a bit of a hairy one for ya - and it would be a first on the channel too! Hairy? Yeah, hairy. You gotta do your donuts in reverse in a front wheel drive, but you also gotta watch out for the nosecone's follow-through! They're fun to do though - a little tough on the CV joints and any fences you hit (ask me how I know), but a lot of fun nonetheless. Good video, bud. Great to see you get a win for a change and get some serious dust in the air with the one-wheeler peeler! I did laugh with all the dust that came in because it sparked a memory of my own - I can definitely attest from experience that donuts on gravel in a convertible is not the way to keep the inside of the car clean..... Road dust also does not taste the best and too much of it can sting your eyes so they shut tight and you have to rely on luck not to harpoon anything when you straighten the wheel under full throttle to leave the dust behind you! Fun times.....
Then that air compressing turd woke up from its dream! The Tow-rolla is the champ!!! I noticed you used a $40K piece of equipment to roll it in your shop! That ford probably couldn't tow it even after it aired up the tires!

Mr. B. Here ! As young man work for Oldsmobile dealer when these cars were new . They were ok , room for improvement . I would take it today anyway !

i had an 86 442 T tops original 307 did the exhaust and rebuilt the Qjet. motor had a slight knock. the 373s with the loose converter smoked the tires up easy but rev range was limited to about 3800rpm Loved the T tops. eventually got the car painted but sold for like 3200 a few months later. this was back in 2009
Mr Mortske, on any given episode, I have been entertained watching you suffer, just like me, while taking apart, undoing, or otherwise fixing old junk. the fact that you suffer or experience discomfort has not essentially been the entertaining factor, rather, I took solace in the fact that I was not the only poor bastard that dropped wrenches, got fluids all over the place and otherwise had an old car make a complete fool of me.
Much appreciated for the kind words!
Nice one wheel peel! Sad what the 442 turned into just like so many other muscle cars in the 80's. My friend has a 69 442 w30 455 ram air convertible and a 67 442 his dad bought new. Love the mullet wig, classic!
Thanks for another Mortske Monday! Good luck🐾
How can you not like a GN?!?
Your place sure looks different without snow everywhere brother, I bet you’re glad when it’s melts Mortske!
hi mortske ive allways loved the olds cutlass since watching 80s cop shows i would love one keep up the great work all the best
love your channel,,been tinting cars since 1985....cant even count how many of those rolled in during the 80s.....yup its purple...todays film is far superior....though im old n beat up from decades of hopping in an out of 37k automobiles....i do few jobs a week with a 10yr film....crazy it just wont fade or fish eye..tech has come along way since the 80s...
Sure has!
i watched a video of a 1966 olds with f85,442,w30 options..drag package,awesome ride
Looks like you got the last one that wasn't turned into a dirt racer ! Love it ! Now bring the mullet back !
I had one just like it in 1986 except mine was red inside at 3:07 put out a 180 horsepower ... it was a good highway cruiser even had the t tops..
OLDs 442, 4 bbl carb, 4 spd manual trans, 2 for dual exhaust. Beautiful car.
i just picked up a clean 1981 Cutlass no engine no T-tops trying to figure out if i wanna go OLD school with a 350 or new school with a LS great video
Duf Leppard.. lol... Ratt was a good one hit wonder band. Make sure you play Round and Round when you do the customary donuts.
Bahaha brilliant!
Bought my first new car in 1985. It was 8K list. The thing I remember about G bodies were the stock rear axle link bushings were too squishy. Always felt like the rear end was loose and disconnected.
My neighbor had a very similar car back in the day. His was V6 as well and he called it the gutless cutlass.
i bow to you sir having the holy grail a g body i have owned about 10 currently have a 1987 cutlass t tops with 1983 hurst interior and drivetrain good stuff
The car is going to get parted out, not saved
@@nicolatesla768 I know I heard him
Geez, I’m 66 and I remember having a set of Cragars, 225/60 front tires, 245/70 rear tires or some sh-t like that on a camero SS, but that was in ‘73 so my memory is a little hazy. Had a spring-loaded Hurst four speed. You and Peg like that “how dare you” vid. Poor Greta.
Thank you for putting that AWD Cutlass clip in...that car is amazing!
Heck yeah it is!
72 and 86 modules is what I first learned mechanics whew 20 years ago. Fun cars to rip around in.
Yeah they were the cats pajamas!
My parents had a 1981 Corolla wagon that used to whistle when you drove it, but then I spent one summer driving over nothing but rutted unsealed roads and the whistling stopped, but there was now a stiff breeze blowing through the car with the windows up and the air vents turned off......but I digress
I feel that I do have to point out something where I think you went a bit wrong though.
Fun times.....
always dig g bodies. had my 85 regal since i was 15. swapped the 3.8 for a 350 buick. and yes, every single t top g body is rotten.
I have one from 85 and # 1171 all orginal but majorly upgraded to a 400 small block. Got the orginal motor on the shelf in building.
I had a '76 Cutlass'! Best burn the tires car ever.
Hey Mortske..... Good that you've got a project that you can handle... Ultimate Duff car........
The ferd came in handy. That was a pretty easy project. You and duff were stylin with that ride.
I love those cars I had a 87 cutlass 350 I loved that car. But I don't like that 307!!!
You didn't check all the lights but the brake lights worked lol awesome video
T-top removed! How Smokie and the bandit-ish of ya! I had a plain Jane 88 cutlass Supreme. Great car made good $$
Great video my friend.
Im a big Oldsmobile guy and that was sweet. love how you incorporated your dog !!
