    Awesome thank you!!! I am getting back in it after many years of back when it was Pretty Punch and your bought the yarn from them so I have been struggling on what yarn to use but it looks like 3 strands of embroidery is about right. I didn’t realize it has grown so much into all different yarns. I am excited. Thank you again!!!!

    Thank you! Thank YOU! I am a miniaturist and have made many rugs entirely out of French knots. They are beautiful and small, but they are so very time consuming. When I found out about punch needle, I knew I could get just about the same look in a much faster time frame. BUT, I became frustrated quickly. Now I know why. I will use all of your tips and try again! Many thanks!

      Oh wow, that sounds so cool! Yes, punch needle is way faster for sure. I’d love to see your miniature rugs! Not entirely on the same subject, but my kids and I are obsessed with watching “tiny food” videos on RUclips where people cook real food on a super tiny scale. 😊😊🤓 I’m so glad the tips helped you out!

    Thank you for this video! I was getting so frustrated with my punch needle project, I just knew something had to be wrong. I assumed it was a failure on my part, and (although that might still be true as I am a beginner) I do now realize that this kit has the wrong kind of "monk's cloth". It also has the cheaper rug needle that you showed and the needle has pulled out of the slot a few times on me (I also HATE threading this thing, the threader keeps getting stuck inside somewhere). This kit was originally bought for my daughter (it is one of the kiwico maker crates) but she wasn't interested in it so I ended up doing it myself. It's fun, but now I'm interested in how it would go using the "right" tools.

    Thank you for this. I've made an error on my first project. I bought a clip frame, which works well, but I know need to reposition my fabric to complete the next section and the clips won't attach over the bulky punched work. I was thinking I could buy one of those adjustable hoops to complete the rest. Do they grip over worked areas well?

    • @MarchingNorth
      @MarchingNorth  2 года назад +1

      Yea, I use a Morgan no slip hoop and it works even on the already punched areas. It does smash the loops down a bit, but you can fluff them back up afterwards. I just try not to leave it in the hoop too long so they don’t get super smooshed 😊 good luck!

    i have seen a lot of people use burlap as their fabric, what is your opinion on this? because it’s def cheaper 😅

    • @MarchingNorth
      @MarchingNorth  3 года назад

      You can use burlap, but it’s pretty messy and it can deteriorate over time. So for instance I wouldn’t recommend using it to make a rug or something that’s going to get a lot of abuse. Otherwise, it works! And yes, much cheaper lol.

      I’m glad it was helpful!! When you say interchangeable with leathercrafting, do you mean like sewing leather? I do that too (I have way too many hobbies lol) but I don’t think a punch needle would work with leather- I’ve though about that too in the past. Hi! I'm trying to figure out if I can use the punch needle method you talk about to modify a garment with tufting, but I am not sure if the yarn will hold once it is worn if it is just looped through without a knot on each loop :( Do you have any suggestions? Thank you!!

    • @MarchingNorth
      @MarchingNorth  4 года назад

      It really depends on the type of fabric you’re working with. For larger punch needles and yarn, you’re limited to certain woven fabrics like monks cloth, linen, burlap, and other similar fabrics. With a small embroidery punch needle you can do punch needle on cotton and cotton poly blends, but it’s with embroidery floss instead of yarn. If your using the right kind of fabric, the loops stay in place surprisingly well and you can always add some washable fabric glue on the back if you’re worried. I do when it’s something that will be machine washed. I hope that helps!

      Yes- but I’ve also used the largest Lavor needle with monk’s cloth and yarn and it worked too. Mainly I use it with weaver’s cloth though- hope that makes sense!

      @@MarchingNorth yes it totally makes sense, because I was thinking that the smallest needle was too small for monk's cloth and the biggest was too big for weaver's cloth. Now I think I've figured out ! Thank you for your instructions!! Very precious.

    I just found out that I've made my first attempt with punch needle with the WRONG monk's cloth, great! 😅

      Lol I know it’s so easy to get the two kinds confused! If you give the “right” kind a try, it should be a lot easier!

      I know right?!?!? I was using embroidery floss and the small plastic punch needles on the aida cloth. Poke poke poke and it's out poke, out, poke, out. I was getting super upset then tada. This video came along. Thanks!
