I like the idea of using the fabric for a quilt or other sewing projects. Clothes hold so many memories and I like keeping part of them around and repurposing them.
I hung on to so many clothes I couldn't wear when nursing my first two kids! I nursed each for 2.5 years so 5 years total and when I was done...I didn't want to wear those clothes any more LOL. so I totally relate. I had surprise number 3 in 2023 and once again, nursing! I didn't keep anything this time :)
hahaha...I think we can underestimate how very LONG it will be before we will be able to wear something again and whether that item will still suit us in that time in the future.
Such pretty dresses! Comfort has been my go to since having children. But also feeling confident in what I’m wearing, such as things not being too tight or short.
Yes--shorter dresses just are not ideal when you're constantly getting up and down and moving around in very active like with little kids. Figuring out that balance of what I feel good it and feel like looks good...ah, the challenge!
I have recently been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, I really only ever wear one style of comfortable pants. Yes, comfort has become super important to me 😅 Also, elastic does go bad all over the world, but heat is the worst on it. Way to go clearing things out!
Comfort is definitely essential--and yes, heat + elastic is not a good mix. It's kind of a bummer when the only problem with something is that the elastic has gone bad and it's installed in a way to make it too difficult/impossible to replace. Elastic is usually the first thing to go on our fitted bedsheets, too. Grr!
I find my closest easy as I haven’t worn a dress since I was a pre teen and love casual clothing!!! I think our international moves have helped us all pair down our wardrobes including my older kids!!! They have had a few international moves by now!!! I have a teenager who sows!!! My friend taught her as she’s older and grew up with sowing clothes!!! The milkshake dress looks like a teenager dress!!! I’m a tomboy so I don’t have any dresses or skirts!!! My girls are more girly!!! I have my teenager daughter’s 50s dress I got her at 6!!! I kept it for memories!!! I bought it in Miami!!! I go for comfort as well!!! My wedding dress is at my in laws or parents, I can’t remember where we left it!!!
Definitely international moves would be a good motivation to keep things minimalist! It can be very difficult to balance between keeping things for memories and keeping what we actually need to keep.
I’m at a fork in the road with my wardrobe. I know what I would wear if it weren’t for the drastic on and off fluctuation of sizes and the need for things to be nursing accessible or able to withstand messy things. But that season isn’t going to be over anytime soon
I find that jeans and t-shirts are my daily wear, but I do have to have some dressier shirts for Church. I have just a couple dresses; I feel like so many dress styles make me look pregnant (my youngest is 3). Swing dresses and tulip-style have been a go-to. 😒 P.S. I like wearing bike shorts under shorter dresses since I too am chasing kids.
I love seeing into people's wardrobes and knowing more about their decluttering process ❤

Yes--even if it's life as a dress is done, the fabric can become something else...if I find enough time...

Oh, I LOVE the white and black one. Reminds me of Lucille Ball!
I so love the style of that one! It looks adorable on my little sister!

@SevenInAll I feel your pain! It is frustrating not to be able to fix something!
Decluttering your closet is very important, but it must be hard to get rid of such pretty dresses!!
It can be tough to say goodbye.

"I know what I would wear IF...." ahahaha and therein lies the great challenge. right?
@ yep! And I’m in the frigid Midwest on top of it.

Cotton dresses are a go-to for me in the heat here, but figuring out the right cut that is flattering AND comfortable...ahhh...that's the problem!
Immediate no's for clothing with me... Itchy fabric, see-through fabric, or fabric that has to be dry cleaned!
Oh yeah--does anyone even have time for dry cleaning?
