So many interesting topics... love your Grecian urn thoughts. I think that's spot on. What a gift to have the time to be able to enter into fun projects without the worry of a classroom clock (I've been there!). And that last question... that is so me ALL the time these days. And I am feeling it this year more than ever with a 5th, 3rd, kinder, pre-K, toddler and baby all needing me! I am constantly re-assessing my priorities and who needs the most attention. Whew! And finally... ancient history & art?!?! What? Wow, so exciting! Looking forward to that. We will likely be cycling back to ancient history next year so I am super interested! Especially with the art addition. We looooove art around here, so I'm fascinated to see what she/you come up with. :)
Yes, yes, there are so many little and important needs on your heart and mind at all times in this wonderful work--it is a juggling act for sure. I am SO excited about what she's bringing together for the ancient art--I'm learning a lot. This is more than a bit bigger than our usual projects though, so it's taking a while, ha!
This was such an informative video. Thank you Rachel! I’m looking forward to your future curriculum on art & history. And if possible- Gentle & Classical Sequence 1 Review!
Isn't it? I often hear it recommended as one of the subjects that can be "optional" in the early years...but it's just so fun and so wondrous...definitely worth the time for me!
Aahhhhh!!! Yes please to the history curriculum! 💗💗 Also, do you go to bed super early? Or does your body not require much sleep? Because 4:30 am is WAY too early. 😂❤
Oh no, I definitely require sleep, and I go to bed embarrassingly early. lol. Around 9 pm these days, and I'm still waking up with baby. If I weren't waking up with baby, 10 pm would be more doable, but because I know my sleep will be interrupted, going to bed early is a priority for me.
I really appreciated your thoughts on shelving vs. slowing down when your child is struggling. I also lean towards slowing down and lots of repetition with foundational subjects like phonics or subtraction, but I have shelved things like writing instruction when I could tell that we needed more time with spelling and even punctuation before we moved to composition. Your response made me consider my process!
Yes--sometimes we might not realize with something like writing instruction how many foundation skills are necessary for being able to progress (handwriting, spelling, punctuation, oral composition & narration, etc.).
I agree struggle areas can’t be skipped!!! Wen we did sequence one my older kids did a different science than my younger kids!!! My older kids learned perfection at school so we work on it still and we pulled them out 8 yrs ago!!! I have a teenager with fine motor issues and they tipex over if it’s not "neat“ enough even tho I can read it!!! I think ur sister will benefit from understanding curriculum development skills!!! We are doing church history and holy land studies before sequence 2!!! I love the idea of the accent history curriculum!!! We study Accent Australia in our homeschool!! We aren’t doing Aussie studies this yr tho!!! I don’t like time filler activities!!!
I always tell them what they got wrong, and they usually do it again and fix it. I thought that would help them learn from their mistakes but now I am thinking it may not be the best approach.
Re-working problems that were answered incorrectly the first time is a great approach--depending on the problem, a child may need more guidance or re-teaching on the correct procedure, but sometimes they may be able to just look at it and see what they did wrong.
If it helps, this was the approach my parents used homeschooling us, and it worked very well for me. That being said, they didn't really do any tests at all, so I think that helped me not have performance anxiety. (We did have State testing every two years)
Many years ago when this channel started, it was a "siblings" channel where the seven of us siblings made silly videos together....and then the channel content gradually changed when I started making homeschool videos during 2020. :)
Yes, I am so excited to see the ancient history curriculum.
I am excited to see how it all comes together!
Yes! So excited for your ancient history program 🎉🎉
:) I persist in chipping away at what seems like a rather large undertaking...

I will definitely be doing a review on that later on--we're about halfway through Sequence 1 now!
😮 to ancient history
:)
I agree! Science is too fun to skip out on.

I agree! I think Science is what develops so much curiosity about the world around us!❤ At least for my kids. 😊

Your ancient history curriculum sounds amazing. Wish I could use it now! 😢😂
I'm very excited at how it is coming together but I'm thinking it won't be ready till spring, at least.
I can't wait to see the ancient history art curriculum!
...and your ancient history!
I am very excited to see how it all comes together!

Ohhhh.....I will buy the art curriculum!!!
And ancient history!!!
I'm so excited at how both projects are coming together!
Thanks for answering these questions.
Thanks for listening!
Radio Ambulante is a very entertaining and interesting podcast in Spanish (for mama, not for kiddos).
Thanks for the recommendation!

I am loving getting to work with my sister on curriculum development!

Why did you name your channel,” seven in all?”
