I appreciate the detailed inside video of the instrument panels. We were drooling at the Mosquitos on the internet at flight school. Pretty freaking awesome. I just wish the cheaper UL helis with 2 seats were still supported. That was some beautifully controlled flying.
That was one heck of an approach at around 10:00. Is the pilot military trained? Fancy flyin' all around. He made it look so fluid and effortless. Great vid!
This guy seems very thorough, honest and concise in his descriptive assessment of this single-seater. If I had the qualifications and money........I'd snap it up in an instant.
Wow! I loved it! God bless those men who do everything to improve the lives of men! Who knows, the Mosquito saves someone's life or something, being more than a modern and practical transportation! Congratulations! Great video! :)
Something I notice quite a bit lately. For some reason people have started incorrectly pronouncing the word "turbine". Instead they pronounce it "turban". A turban is something you put on your head if you are a Sikh. The second syllable rhymes with the word wine. It does not rhyme with bin or ban.
Awesome helicopter !! I would love to have one just like it.. It has everything, Flir, all the avionics, gps, jet powered, very responsive to input from pilot.. Much more power than the wimpy original.. You could actually travel with this great toy...
Mosquitos are such a cool design of aircraft. This one has a great spec and is in beautiful condition. I had to pause my fixed-wing training a while ago for a number of reasons.... but the more I learn about Mosquitos, the more I'm thinking of going Rotary.
Amazing how many truly STUPID people are out there. These things require exacting and precision coordination and control. Much more difficult to learn to fly than an airplane. Much more.
Yea most ppl think oh flying looks like fun just want to hop In one just fly it not that simple I’m sure it’s fun but you have take flying very serious if you don’t want to be on 6:00 clock news..
Oh yes, just love helicopters. I have a dozen hobby grade rc collective pitch helicopters that I fly regularly. Took me years of flight simulation and actual flight to master hovering and orientation. If I were not a retiree I would be the first to line up and offer to buy your jetcopter. On an rc helicopter the cheapest turbine engine is $3500 that can power a 1/10th scale helicopter. If I had your helicopter you will only find me in the air every chance I get.
+RT VL Great, just be sure to replace rotors after each use! Oh, and be sure to add the optional 'inversion lawn & hedge care kit'... personally, I found electric hedge trimmers from LOWE'S to be more efficient. Strange, I know, so maybe it's just me!?! ;-)
What a awesome machine. I have been riding superbikes for a long time and closing in on 60 years old. How hard is it to learn to master these. Maybe it is time to start to slow down on the bikes and do something else?
You did a great job. Nice looking machine. I like the turbine. Should be more reliable than the piston engine they usually have, in theory. I fly Astars, but always looked at these in wonder when I was a kid. For those who said that seems expensive, I guess they dont realize how much helicopters really cost, especially with a turbine engine. The one I am flying is now going for around 3 million and its not a huge machine.
Yes, you can buy a mosquito kit online for $40k. But, that is with an internal combustion engine. This is a turbine powered aircraft. Not to mention, it is already built and it takes a very significant amount of time and a very high amount of intuitiveness/intelligence to build one.
Unfortunately, most helicopters are extremely inefficient. I fly UH-60s and an really good burn rate is around 125 gallons an hour and I have seen it go as high as 165-170 gal per hour when we are heavy. Funny thing, the engine for this mosquito is the same as our apu.
Turbines guzzle the fuel. But they're smooth, light yet powerful, and theoretically more reliable due to less moving parts or whatnot..... Plus, they sound cool.
The dream of flight is a realization with this aircraft. Leave the traffic on the ground behind and take off from one's backyard. Asking price is just equivalent to most high end sports vehicles. Flight training should come with it. Too bad market is limited as the average person is scared of flying.
+Ramon Kabigting "flight training should come with it" No. It's a single seat. It's impossible for this to be used for flight training and why should the owner of this pay for the buyer's flight training?
There are only two models of the Mosquito that qualify as ultralights, and they are all lighter weight and have piston engines. All other models of the Mosquito, including the XET, require a private pilot license, airworthiness certificate, and registration to operate.

Nathan Drake you auto rotate down, unless gears in transmission converter locked up. Either way, you come down. Maybe live through auto rotate. It'll hurt, and you'll break ur neck and back, legs, ankles, arms maybe, but you might live.
There are 2 belts stacked for redundancy and no transmission the belts are the transmission there is a slipper clutch that starts to engage at 40% and at 60% is fully engaged
I took my Cessna to have some work done. Mechanic had a Mosquito in the shop with a Rotax engine. He said builder had $80,000 in his and had yet to fly it. FAA just certified it. You have to get your helicopter license to fly it.

Wolters, WOC Primary Rotor Wing Flight School..... (you tube: "Chopper Pilot") While I'm not in the buying position, I really do thank you for showing the rest of us, how to fly again.... Great Touch Control!!!! Again, Thanks! Gordon
If it is considered in the ultra light category there is no license or registration required. And yes, some of the small helicopters are considered ultra lights
Velatorix What about Rotorcraft certification? I have my single engine complex over land PPL (I can fly a single engine reciprocating, with a constant speed prop and retractable gear. I do not fly Rotors.
+JackOfAllTrades Yep, I know a few people who would buy it for me if I promised to fly it the same day I got it.........................(I ain't a pilot and they ain't friends....LOL!)
Philip Bothma not too uncommon for a heli to be belt driven. however the bigger machines have more then one engine so if one goes out, you still good enough to make it home. similar to how boats have two or more engines (thus multiple engine belts)
On the website you see the price for the kit only, which comes with no engine (+$15,000) or any of the extra accessories or avionics mine has ($6,000+). The kit price also does not cover labor expenses if you have the factory build it for you ($8,000). You can not build a new helicopter to my spec for what my list price is. You may have been looking at the piston versions of this helicopter, which have the same body, but are much cheaper because they do not have a turbine engine, or a lot of the avionics or accessories this one has onboard.
Your aircraft was magnificent, whoever bought it got a great deal. Did you get another one? Or maybe a larger one with two seats? What was the range with just 20 gals.?
Can you tell me if the bird was used in any illegal activity? No specifics. Need to know if I will need to add weapons such as a sub-machine gun or rockets. Thanks.
For this version of the mosquito you need a private helicopter pilot's license. The helicopters (without the nice features he has in this video) are around 40-60 thousand dollars.
Nice looking bird. Is there a factory option for a hi-skid setup to give more ground clearance for that aux tank? That thing sits way to close to the ground for my liking.
Very nice presentation and apparently a well taken care of helicopter, but what is distracting are the number of troll dummies making comments that are wasting your time with their stupid remarks and thinking they are funny jokes. Would be ideal for going to work. My boss had a Hiller. Korean War Vet. He was an A/P Mechanic. Did a lot of work on other pilots aircraft. He changed out a hub, went on a test flight. The hub disintegrated at 100Knots and 100 feet. Somebody with a large ranch with livestock. Too expensive to operate otherwise.
Great Video! Great Helicopter! but I have never seen so many stupid comments on a youtube video by the viewers. about 10 people asked how much it is... LOOK at the listing fools! So many other stupid comments about why this why that, you guys are obviously not pilots. My gosh do some research before you bug this great guy to death with all the dumb questions. BTW some very good questions as well. I just normally see great questions from aviation related videos, but I guess something like this draws in a lot of Non-pilots.
If you don't like the comments, stop reading when you get to that part. Or keep trying to make everyone else agree with you, and find out how your quality of life morphs.
knowing very little (at best) about helicopters... why are turbine engine units better than piston ones? are they more reliables, more fuel efficient, more powerful...?
Realistically do you need a license to fly one of these, how many hours do you get on an engine before having to rebuild, what's the annual upkeep on one of these, how much are a set of new belts all the way "around" (noticed a few but didn't watch whole video) and what kinda oil dose it take??
Wow...watched the landing at 10:00 you are a Awesome Pilot too! Just Curious why did you sell? Wanted something Bigger? Like the two seater one in the Video at the right I guess?
I never liked those stupid comments and questions that non Pilots would approach me with either. I guess it comes with the territory and I would just ignore them. I once owned and operated a Scenic flight service in The Lakes region of New Hampshire. John Christopher, commercial pilot, rotorcraft helicopter, gyroplane.. Bell 47, RAF 2000, modified Benson,
if i were u i would have a nice back plating to cover up the engine but not the exhaust, so it doesn't cause stalling or engine failure if u had a mid air collision
How stable on auto rotate? Does it have the mass to be stable coming down without motor? I mean, under auto rotation alone? I don't think so, id have a throw out belly rig flying that bird. Looks like you could really slap it around, is it strong under G loads? Can you wrench it?
omg it's like the mini bike version of a helicopter love it
except your mini bike motor did not cost 60,000.00 as a rebuilt........

I noticed the main rotors are belt driven. Wonder how reliable and safe is a belt-drive?
You need to learn to change your belt-drive "on the go"
You should ask Robinson helicopters how reliable the belt drive system is. Every model they've built up until now has been belt driven.
I was wondering the same thing about the belts. Could you also change the gear ratio? I don't know why anyone would want to but I was just curious.
Philip Bothma not too uncommon for a heli to be belt driven. however the bigger machines have more then one engine so if one goes out, you still good enough to make it home. similar to how boats have two or more engines (thus multiple engine belts)

The reason for the stupid comments is you don't need a license to troll on RUclips.
If you don't like the comments, stop reading when you get to that part. Or keep trying to make everyone else agree with you, and find out how your quality of life morphs.
this guy is a pro, I am a licensed pilot in R 22, how do you train on this mosquito? dont see the seat for an instructor!!!
knowing very little (at best) about helicopters... why are turbine engine units better than piston ones? are they more reliables, more fuel efficient, more powerful...?
Realistically do you need a license to fly one of these, how many hours do you get on an engine before having to rebuild, what's the annual upkeep on one of these, how much are a set of new belts all the way "around" (noticed a few but didn't watch whole video) and what kinda oil dose it take??
WOW 100+mph that's surprising to me actually, such an insanely small vehicle I bet 100 mph feels fast at the right altitude
Sweet video flying R/c helicopters for years love to have 1
How much,? Factory ready to run? Also , what kind of license do you need , and how much training?
Your hovering skills are spot on. Are you former military?
Civilian trained.
makes that piston powered Beta look huge!
That is one tidy helo, well done! I hope you get the asking price.
Deepak patel from india mp district barwani place rajpur ,asking price
Wow...watched the landing at 10:00 you are a Awesome Pilot too! Just Curious why did you sell? Wanted something Bigger? Like the two seater one in the Video at the right I guess?
I never liked those stupid comments and questions that non Pilots would approach me with either. I guess it comes with the territory and I would just ignore them. I once owned and operated a Scenic flight service in The Lakes region of New Hampshire. John Christopher, commercial pilot, rotorcraft helicopter, gyroplane.. Bell 47, RAF 2000, modified Benson,
awesome video homie
Beautiful Helo. Good work.
Words can't describe how much I want one
Dude, how much fun was that to build? I've always wanted to buy one of these. Rad little helo dude!
if i were u i would have a nice back plating to cover up the engine but not the exhaust, so it doesn't cause stalling or engine failure if u had a mid air collision
On of the nicest birds I've seen. Have it been to Homer Bells farm, Hillsboro Ohio?
+Robert Davis No sir.
Fantastic little machine! There is something about little rotary birds. What would something like that cost new?
when is the next Fly in, in Florida.
+DARRYL SMITH It is usually held the first weekend in April.
Nice bird...How many hours is that type of engine good for?
Nice job flying, pretty cool skeeter.
How stable on auto rotate? Does it have the mass to be stable coming down without motor? I mean, under auto rotation alone? I don't think so, id have a throw out belly rig flying that bird. Looks like you could really slap it around, is it strong under G loads? Can you wrench it?
