    I confirm that this method works on WF-2540. But at the end I needed to run the head cleaning from the printer's menu around 4-5 times to get perfect prints. Thank you very much for this video!

    EXTRA CLEAN!!! I followed the video but after soaking, like the cleaning kits, I took a syringe with a tube on the end and flushed all four nozzels with hot water and window cleaner til it came out clear. Works great! The ribbon wires can be tough to get back in but make sure they are in snug. If it's loose it's not all the way in.

    Thank you very much for this video. Very detailed step-by-step instructions. In the end, I could not get the print-head to unclog, short of using the tube and syringe method in other youtube videos. So I just swapped print-heads out from another XP-400 and it works just fine. Thanks again!

    I did it on a Epson Stylus NX330 and i had to do it twice(put it in hot water) but it worked. the pieces are a little bit different but it's the same steps. You have to print many test to let the ink comes in the head.Finally it works well. Thanks a lot.

    Excellent video. I have cleaned many print heads before and this was by far the trickiest. My XP300 had almost stopped producing color, and black print had white lines and gaps running through the text. As well as immersing the print plate in shallow warm distilled water, I used an eyedropper to force water down the individual color plugs on the top of the unit. I kept changing the water until it was almost clear. I followed this with a cautious use of compressed air to blow out the channels. After much fiddling to put the unit back together. I then ran a cleaning cycle to prime the now empty ink channels, followed by a couple of pages of fairly intense color. The printer is now working like new.

      I read the other comments about the upper small back cable, but I should have kept reading to see this one! Just put mine in shallow water but forgot I have hard water, hope that doesn’t affect the end results. Distilled would have been a good idea.

    Hi, excellent video. I had attempted to clean the head on my WF2530 with the cleaning fluid but it didn't work and still left the black printing intermittently. I removed the head as per your video and then replaced it. After one nozzle check cycle using the printer I had perfect printing.
    A few observations, when the print head is placed in the water make sure it doesn't allow water into the connector for the large flat ribbon cable, the water has to be very shallow. I also used a small syringe with a plastic tube on the end, I had one that I used to clean the heads with cleaning fluid, to push a small amount of warm water through the head from the top using very very little force.
    To be on the safe side slide a thin piece of blotting paper into were the large ribbon cable goes after cleaning the head to ensure its dry. Also it's possible to put the ribbon cables behind their intended connections make sure they are in correctly.

    MY GOD! ... I disconnected the top cable too, like everyone else here...BUT I WAS ABLE TO GET IT BACK IN without disassembling the printer further. Here's how: I rubberbanded a pair of tweezers shut as hard as seemed reasonable, and inserted the blue tip of the cable while prying the tweezers open with a knife. this let me maneuver the tweezers and thus the cable from the very furthest end of the tweezers - providing just enough visibility and and space for my fingers. i gently edged my way through this and was able to insert it. then i cut off the rubberband with an exacto knife and unraveled it. then i exhaled. and they said it was impossible. holy. fucking. hell.

    Worked on WF-2510, but it is best to remove the scanner section first to allow easy access ( just google epson WF-???? scanner removal), i also used a 20ml syringe and hot water to flush water through the ink intake ports on the head unit. As others have stated follow the instructions carefully, only remove ribbon cables indicated in the video. Thanks for the video, saved me buying a new printer.

    The small ribbon cable in the back can be put back IF YOU SLOWLY TAKE YOUR TIME (LOL, I DID NOT AT FIRST). push the carriage toward the right side until you can see the white "mini usb looking" slot behind the carriage. Then take a pair of 8" curved hemostats and attach it to the end of the ribbon cable so that the blue part does not move left or right. You will also have to angle the ribbon cable so that it goes straight in and this may take a few tries to get the angle right. If it takes more than that YOU ARE IN TOO BIG OF A HURRY. The left finger hole on the handle (for me) was touching or close to touching the metal wall. Angle the hemostats so that the ribbon goes straight into the opening. Do this slowly. When you feel a little resistance and the ribbon is seated, pull the hemostats back and the ribbon should stay. I BEAT MY HEAD INTO THE WALL AS MANY TIMES AS YOU DID AND THE RIBBON DID NOT GO IN UNTIL I TOOK MY TIME AND SLOWLY GUIDED THE CABLE IN . You may want to use a flashlight to see just where the slot is and you may have to guide it to where you thing the opening is. IT will work...

    STOP, DO NOT REMOVE SMALL WHITE CORD. If you do then you must unscrew the screw on the right hinge on the inside then push on the 2 clips on the left and lift that plastic piece. Then you will have better visibility to use your finger or tweezers to get it back in. Otherwise you may have to disassemble a lot more.

  • @dillchives
    @dillchives 5 лет назад +7

    Be very careful trying this method, I tried this on an XP-446, which had a very similar setup. It seemed like it would work -- I got all of the parts disassembled successfully. The board with the electrical contacts gave me a little trouble, but eventually came out. The print heads gave off a *lot* of ink when soaked. After I had everything reassembled and reattached, I noticed I had stretched the bends in the flat cables a little too much, and they were dragging on the printer frame when the assembly moved. As I tried to bend them back into place, *disaster* -- the small cable in the back came out, and as many have noted it's incredibly difficult to put back. I removed the plastic piece that ran along the back of the print assembly track for better access, and after a while even tried the method mentioned below using tweezers/rubber band/knife, which seemed promising until the ribbon cable ripped at the end when I tried to reinsert it. I should have read a little further about disassembling the printer even more, but I was really tired of dealing with this printer already. Now the printer is officially the complete piece of junk it pretty much always was. And I had just wasted money on new (now useless) ink catridges as well.

      You can put it back thru the back of printer by removing the white that holds the all the white ribbons. You will have to disconnect the two big ribbon connected to the scanner board. Put them to the side. Slide back the printhead carriage then you could see the connector thru the little slot. I was able to connect the small flat cable.

      That was so difficult. I had to grab the electric taped to get the flex cable out of the way first.uusing electric tape I taped a flathead screwdriver to the notch under the blue stiff part of the back cable and gently with my fingers to stabilize I pushed it in. It went in fairly easy. The bottom one was crazy I had to flip the printer on its side. After turning it on I had to wait a few hours for all of the colors to print brightly. What a headache!

    Found the easy way to put third tape back in case you disconnect it like me and most people here. To put it back you have to take of scanner it's easy and there is white plastic holding these 3 tapes. Just disconnect these 3 tapes and remove plastic so you will have enough space to put finger and connect thist tape to the back of carriage then put every think back together. It took me 5min to do it. Unfortunately my print head get broken after spend few days in IPA now it don't print at all.

    I had the issue on an xp-205 smearing ink all over the paper that looked like roller marks, tried cleaning the heads the rollers, everything... I deduced it was under the ink head, after takin all the inks out and having the ink cartridge in the middle, i was able to spot the culprit, a collection of dust/hair had formed underneath and covered in black ink, (on the right hand side of the ink cart), which was smearing the rollers then the paper...I was able to clean underneath (without having to pull out cables/clips) using a qtip and thankfully this fixed my woes... phew!

    This is an excellent tutorial, however this is not the faint-hearted or those that dont have experience taking things apart and more important the ability to put them back together accurately. The ribbon cables will likely be your nemesis, so I would only undertake this process if you regard the printer as junk and its your last ditch attempt to rescue it from the great ecological nightmare of busted printers. Its a good idea to take photos as you go, especially as different models have slightly different setups.

    THERE IS A MUCH SIMPLER WAY! You can clean the excess dried up ink off the bottom of the print head without removing it - fold some tissue paper and/or wetwipe, place it flat, and gently push the print head over the tissue/wipe. Job done. Start with the head in the position for removing ink cartridges, then turn off the power at the wall socket - if you press the off button on the printer the head moves to the side and locks into place - you won't be able to move it manually to do the cleaning.

    • @plymouth5714
      @plymouth5714 2 года назад

      It might be worth disassembling the print head again and checking the ends of the ribbon cables. I managed to remove mine ok but when put back together I first got a 000031 error message and then the black cartridge was not correctly installed (or so it said). After taking it apart again I found that the smaller ribbon appeared to have burred two of the contacts and they might have been shorted together. I scraped the gap between them clear with a craft knife and pulled the ribbon through the slot in the carriage to connect it to the contact block before inserting the block back in (a devil's own job to fit it but it went in eventually) - the print head is also easier to connect if you slide the big ribbon through the bottom slot and plug it in before putting the heads back in. Although the small ribbon seems horribly pinched up the printer now recognizes the black ink cartridge and it works again. Looking at the carriage that the cartridges fit into I think it looks strong enough to actually saw a slot from the small ribbon slot to the top which would make it far easier to re-fit the contact block after plugging in the ribbon! Hope you can fix yours!

  • @Haybobby3
    @Haybobby3 7 лет назад +4

    Make damned sure you guys don't get the cable contacts wet, if you do and you restart your printer, most likely it will be shot. Just about everyone of the comments regarding problems after "cleaning" can be contributed to the cable connections being wet when the printer was restarted or the cables not being installed properly. If you have gotten the cable connections on the print head wet, you can use a can of compressed air and a blow dryer to dry them COMPLETELY prior to reconnecting the cables. This is very IMPORTANT if you don't want to fry your printer!!!

      After cleaning the head of my WF2540, I started the printer and everything looked fine. After it started moving the print head to the right of the printer, it suddendly went off.
      I am not able to switch it on now.
      I had read your comment before cleaning, and that's why I put some tape on the connector before cleaning it. I also tried to dry it after the cleaning.
      Do you know if there's still a chance to repair my printer? Any fuse that I could replace?
      Thanks in advance

      Mine was shot! I thought I had dries it completely. I even warmed it up with a blow dryer to make sure it was dry. When I heard it "sizzling" I reached over to shut it off and it cratered just as got to it. I was told it would need a new print head so I just bought a new printer. It doesnt take but a minuscule amount of moisture to fry it.

      Unfortunately same fried-printer happened to me too! even though I blow dried it quite well for 3 times 30" each, and inside the cable-connector really well.
      When i turned it on it started fine for 1-2 minutes at which point it just shut down (leaving the printer head in a mid-position, meaning it just went off power, not intentionally stop). I removed the head again and plug the printer but to no avail - there seems to be no resuscitation, no power-on! I ll find a 2nd hand head to try. Anyone can propose a solution to that problem? is there a circuit inside the printer that has blown off? Or a fuse? or?????

    • @camillepapp4142
      @camillepapp4142 6 лет назад +1

      Damn, I also fried mine, even though I used the compressed air (I know, it can push moisture in, but it seemed so dry). I was close to using 99% alcohol to dry it, but I wasn't sure if it would affect the head in some way. Now I am wishing I had gone the alcohol route. I wish these circuits were made a little more robustly. Sucks that I finally got around to fixing it, found this great video, got it all done, and then destroyed the freaking thing via the power button.

      this is my second Epson. first one was cheap. bought a more expensive model. ended up having to take it in while under warranty. repairman said it was surprisingly dirty. just 2 months later it was doing the same streaking. I'm actually looking for a new printer now. HP? Cannon? I work for cargo company. actually had to pick up a package just today that had 2 red arrows up. this is serious business in the cargo industry. The package? Epson parts. If they are that sensitive, you have to ask yourself, do you really want one. Never again with Epson.

But then the printer stopped working, ans wouldn't turn on again. No control light, no reaction whatsoever. I took everything apart, dried the printhead again, and put it back.Still would not turn on. Is it possible that there is a shortcut or a fuse? Thanks for any hint.

    I have an Epson 835 and the issue is not clogged heads. It freezes upon powering up and the display flashes the message "A Printer Error has occurred". I tried some things suggested by the JustAnswer site, but they didn't work. When I free the print head and move it to the left and turn on the power, it tries to start normally. The print head slowly moves to the right. However, when it reaches the ink reservoir area, the rectangular sponge, it bumps up against it the pad holder and triggers the error. I looks like it should clear the pad, but the pad will not stay down when I push it down. I wonder if it is gummed up under this pad. However it is not easily accessible. I do not see a way to unscrew the plastic cover that prevents access to the pad. Do you or does anyone reading this have a suggestion?
