I did this 30 years ago and spent 2 years mostly in Patzcuaro and have made several trips back. Now in my 70s I long to return. I have 2 elderly dogs holding me here (the flight from NZ is not an option). When they pass, however old or infirm I am I will return to Mexico for my last years, however many I might have. Your posts give me such joy. You live in the most glorious patch of Michoacan.

Hi Mora! We have traveled a similar path. I'm 58. I worked for 19 years as a nurse mostly in surgery. Then returned to school for my NP and worked for another 6 years, but then was diagnosed with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and congestive heart failure. I got 2 medical opinions one from Mayo Clinic and was told I had just a few years left. I immediately quit my job and planned to travel for my remaining years with my beloved partner. Its been six years living in various countries and I've almost died a couple of times but I'm in stable condition at the moment. I have no doubt in my mind that I would be dead if I stayed in healthcare and living in the USA! Blessings to you and enjoy your journey!
I've been in Mexico for a year now. Before leaving I watched a great many videos by expats, but yours reflect my personal experience most closely. May you have many more years of joy and peace in this amazing country!
It’s really sad that jobs in the US have become so miserable. I attribute that to corporate and executive greed. Everyone is breaking their backs to keep the rich wealthy. I loved my job in the eighties and nineties. Stayed with a company for 34 years and got my degree only to be rewarded with a layoff at 53. Immediately got a new job, but starting over is very difficult.
I agree 100%. Greed has taken over America in every aspect. So many have lost the collective spirit of human kindness, and instead thrive on greed in the name of "business". So sad. Life is so much more than that.

Thank you for your honesty and openness. At 62, a childhood of several international moves, a life of work, and now an itch for change, and a slower and more economical way of life, your videos show me-and inspire me-that there are options. Currently in California.

Similar story. Single mom after early marriage/pregnancy- one son. I began to transition into nursing education. I ended up loving teaching and did that until age 75. Then retired. Loved traveling on long holiday time over Christmas and during summers off while on my teaching schedule. I felt so blessed blessed! Glad you are finding your way out too.

Hi, welcome to Mexico. I'm so very happy for you, I think You're very brave. I'm Mexican living in USA for 30 years. I have a beautiful house in cuernavaca Morelos Mex but, I don't have the guts to going back and leave the stress that you are telling in your video cuz I know how it feels, I praying for that. I wish you the best and keep going.
35 years living in the USA myself and can not wait to retire and move back, If I as able to make it here by myself and 0 english going back home will be easy, I will go back to Yucatan.
I support your channel, i moved to Mexico also, i am 40. I am lucky to be able to do so, with income still coming in without working. And yes, Mexico has less stress, the culture, the way of live. People actual enjoy the journey here with families and friends and so welcoming. Be brave everyone, take that risk, chance, we are built for changes and thats what life is.
Another enjoyable video. I’m retired and 76 recently lost my wife of 52 yrs to COVID and an impaired immune system. I retired at age 60 and fortunate in all ways but a simple slow pace surrounded by nature’s beauty is so appealing makes me think above moving for a slower pace of life.
I’m so glad to have found your channel! I’m planning a solo trip Morelia and Patzcuaro. I have a feeling of stuckness and loneliness at 63 in the US. I have memories of feeling more alive in Mexico and Guatemala. Your stories are so honest and remind me that an introvert can be happy and overcome the inevitable bumps along the way. Thanks so much!😊
I am so glad I found this video!Over the last several years I have been wanting to leave the U.S.I too am from Oregon. Money is my biggest drawback. I have listened to so many fairly well off business people and retirees talk about how they moved to Mexico and I do not relate to any of them!I have a very small business and make just barely enough to get by ,but I don't have much savings 401K etc.I don't want to move to an enclave of well off ex pats either , so it's a relief to hear from someone that is relatable .I really appreciate hearing your experience and that it is possible to move to Mexico on a smaller budget. I am in my early 60's , single and no kids, except for my cats. Reinventing myself. I am inspired, thank you .And I am glad you have found a way to live with less stress and to appreciate life each day .
What an amazing story you’ve shared. I felt like I was listening to my own thoughts. I’m seriously thinking of taking the leap you e taken within the next year or sooner.
I just found your channel & I'm so glad I did! ❤ I've considered moving to Mexico but that big bad word called "FEAR" always stops me from going further than "my thoughts"... Your video has inspired me! Thank you!! I wish you continued joy!! ❤
Good for you! I retired in 2023 and moved to Mexico the following day. I had the advantage of having been a missionary and learning Spanish a long time ago. So I have a huge advantage over other estadounidense folks who struggle to communicate, or more likely never even try. I return to the US regularly for family and friend issues and to restock on things I can't get here in Baja, Mexico. And when I do, my two dogs and I can't wait to drive south again. Thanks for the great videos you are making and buena suerte!
Just got back from Baja. I will be visiting Queretaro and San Miguel de Allende in 10 days. I’ll be spending a week’s time in each place. Saludos desde Colorado.
Mora! Your video is so encouraging! There are millions of Americans living the lifestyle you described happened to you! I am Mexican living in the Houston area. When I came to USA 31 years ago I promised to myself not involve in the rush and fast pace of American life, but that is impossible. Even that I work in my own business and my workplace is surrounded by beautiful Nature, I think that all this time flew so fast and I didn’t enjoy and appreciate the real good things in life. I try to Decompress of the stress and routine, taking 2 short vacations to México during the year, but now watching your videos I started thinking in going back to Mexico and enjoy life in a slower pace! I think that we, Mexicans are lucky of coming to USA to work hard during our best years, but be able to go back to our natal roots and appreciate and enjoy what we left for so many years.
Yes! I know how you feel, you don't mean to get caught up in the race but it's unavoidable. It's so nice that you can come back to your roots and it's a wonderful place to slow down, as I'm sure you know :)
Thank you for sharing your story so openly and I’m considering doing the same in the new year. I’m so glad you’re in a better place now and mental health and wellbeing are way more important than a job that can end at any moment. Cheers to your continued adventures!
That had to take so much courage. Your son must be doing well. I've been lucky to be self employed in the US, a carpenter, for the last 24 years and I've been able to help raise my daughter, live frugally, and still travel alot, sometimes with my daughter. My daughter's mother has also been self employed for many years. But all around us, we witness people rushing, harassed, on corporate treadmills, basically unhappy. I'm 67 now, on social security, I still work part time. My life is easy...but all around me people are stressed and unhappy and that makes me uneasy and not content with my life here. Because of that I''m considering moving abroad. My only qualm is my daughter. She's 27 and working, but it feels like I need to be here when things come up, car repairs, etc. because her life is much harder than mine was at the same age and it seems to be the case for many young people all over.
I understand about your daughter. Things are reversed with my son and I: he can fix anything and I'm on my own without him. But I've always been a restless person, and I committed when I left him in California that I would see him at least twice a year. So far that is working out, but it's not the same as living in the same town of course. I hope you find a solution that works for you :)
No matter where you travel in the world you can be at your daughter's side within 24 hours. I plan to retire very soon and live/travel overseas. My daughter is 19 and lives on her own now.
Your video made me cry. Im 64, i feel 45. Ive had 2 husbands get sick and helped them both die at home, with dignity. While i would do that over again, because they were both great men and husbands to me. But i was left drained after caring for my last husband 8 years prior to his death in 2018. I lost myself. Im on my own, have survivor benefits and only dream of moving to Mexico. Im frozen stiff with fear. I am happy for you. I pray God gives me that kind of courage soon. I have started thinking about giving up and dying. Thank you for your video. It was inspirational.
Oh no. You are one of the people I was talking to! Things can change so fast. Allow yourself to look in new directions. Fear is a bunch of thoughts that can make you take a good look at a situation or a choice, but once you've made an educated decision it's time to shut that voice up! If I can answer any specific questions please let me know.
Thank you for putting out this content. This is just what I needed to see my wife and I are getting ready to move to Mexico in the next 30 days. It’s been in the planning stages for about three months and we have jobs there when we arrive. Even though you aren’t working, we understand working in Mexico is much different than the states at 57 years old myself and my wife at 55. This will be a step in the right direction to where we ultimately want to retire in Mexico, which we’ve been planning for more than a decade. These last weeks, I’ve had some anxiety about moving to Mexico again we were living in Mexico in 2011-2012 and always wanted to go back,. This time I know that only good will come of it so thank you again.
How exciting! I understand the anxiety, big changes are not without stress, but I hope you have a wonderful time. Congrats on putting your plan into motion! In many people there is a lot of enthusiasm but not a lot of execution, because of the anxiety I think. Best of luck to you and your wife!
Love your channel and love your honesty in sharing your story here. These are the important things we all need to hear. Thank you for being the brave one, saying 'no' to the craziness and stepping into the unknowns of a new life. Such refreshing and inspiring content. ❤
Hi Mora, Thank you for sharing your life story with us!! You had a tough life... but I admire your perseverance, your resilience and the way you capture life's beautiful moments now, not only in your videos, but in your heart. I wish for you many years of peace, health and prosperity so you can continue to enjoy life wherever it may take you. Keep that smile! A big hug! Ricardo. Houston TX
Treasure you are. We have to be honest with ourselves for the sake of good mental health. You are gifted with frankness and your story- telling kept me involved with your path. Thank you.
Such an honest and authentic share! Thank you, it’s a wonderful story, I love the Lake District, you are in a good space! So many reasons to be at peace ☮️ in Mexico 🇲🇽
Hi, Mora! My husband and I have our consulate appointment for permanent residency and are so excited! We've been going to Puerto Vallarta since 2017 and fell in love with the people, culture, food, and community.
You seem like such a good and kind soul. I hope to retire in Mexico. I have some family responsibilities that keep me in the states for now. Eventually I’ll be able to leave and I dream of this day. So glad you’re finding peace and overcoming your fears to hopefully find a better way of living. I wish you all the best you brave soul.
Beautiful story and beautifully told. I really enjoy your videos and the vibe you send out. My trigger point to retire early, from having each leg on a different treadmill in my US corporate life, happened when I was on holiday in Puerto Rico. While it was snowing in the northeast where I lived, I was sipping a drink in PR enjoying the warm soothing trade winds one evening. My mind began to reflect on the fact that many people lose their health early in retirement and don’t get to fully enjoy those years. And then I remembered how much I hated snowy weather. And then I took note of the number of folks in the dept that I ran who either they or a spouse had cancer and that they were all 20 years younger than me. It was then that I decided change would happen. I gave my 6 month notice (mostly to allow the company plenty of time to find a strong replacement for me) and moved to FL for several years. These days, I’m living in the Philippines where we use “island time” as a way of life. The hardest part has been continuing to make the days matter. I solved that, including by doing 2 gym workouts a day and feeding the brain with all the amazing content and topics from RUclips. I visit family in the US twice a year and have friends where I live in the Philippines, but I am at peace and feel very fortunate to be a guest in this country with the wonderful Filipino people. Keep up the great work sharing your stories. 👏👏👏
Thank you and thanks for sharing your story! I might be in some part of Asia if I didn't have the two dogs with me. I'm glad you found Island time and peace! I'm thinking of making a video on why retiring is better done early in the future :)
@@MoraMargaret You’re most welcome. If you plan to come to Asia, just pick the places that give you flexibility in visa, language, and other attributes that suit your needs. Feel free to ask me any questions that I can help you answer.
I admire you it takes a lot of courage to move to another country. I have TR im 59 and haven’t quite done the leap . I’ve been motorcycling in Mexico for the past 9 years . Recently sold the Mexican bike and was bringing another one down in September…broke down just before Oregon not sure why I’m telling you that but I have to wait until January next year to come down now. I guess I’m just saying have fun. Enjoy your winter. I appreciate you videos.
It's a big country! There are many opportunities for low cost living in places that never get talked about in most videos/books etc.. I hope to explore more when we leave this lovely spot near Patzcuaro!
You look very much at peace and happy. That’s what life is about to seek a place to make you joyful and at peace. I’m glad you found your place. May you continue to live in that manner. Greetings from Los Angeles
Oh I am so glad I stumbled across this video. Ironically, I am also 57 years old. Also, ironically, we oversee a small church camp and this weekend a hispanic church from Texas is here. They found out about our place from a bilingual (espanol/english) church that is about a mile from us that we visit some. I have so enjoyed getting to know friends from Mexico and other hispanic countries. They are truly lovely people. I hope to share a little about them in a future video on my channel. I greatly enjoyed your video and look forward to watching more. I love your words, "There is something sacred in slowing down." So true. Subscribing.
This is such a beautifully zen video Mora!!! I'm now a senior -- and have decided to give myself a gift of as much travel as possible in Mexico during coming years. As happened to you, the very decision and intention brings me much joy and excitement! --Thanks!
Mora, you inspire me! I just turned 50 and have a VERY STRESSFUL job in law enforcement. I plan to retire in 5 years and travel around Mexico. I’m going to Mexico City and San Miguel de Allende next month during my vacation. My mother is from Morelia, so I’m familiar with Pátzcuaro and would love to live there too. I went to Oaxaca City last July for the Guelaguetza and fell in love with the people. I have so my places I still haven’t visited like Taxco, Guerreo and Guanajuato City. I’m so glad I found your channel and wish you the best experiences.
This was so meaningful for me to watch. I am also 57 years old and living in SF and at a similar crossroad in my life. I so long to have the work burden lifted off my shoulders so I can connect to nature and all its magic. I am hoping for some sort of financial windfall to come my way so I can reconnect with the universe for the rest of my earthly days. Fingers crossed.

I moved to Mexico a couple years ago, I retired. Nice to meet yo. come on down
I support your channel, i moved to Mexico also, i am 40. I am lucky to be able to do so, with income still coming in without working. And yes, Mexico has less stress, the culture, the way of live. People actual enjoy the journey here with families and friends and so welcoming. Be brave everyone, take that risk, chance, we are built for changes and thats what life is.
@luperamos7307 from renting my house, and retirement from military
That's great!
I'm sorry for your loss. The slower pace has helped my state of mind very much :)
Sorry for your loss ❤
I am so very sorry for your loss. I know the difficulty of grief.
Thanks so much!😊
Good for you .!
We love you México 🇲🇽
Live well .!!
🙏😍
Your words today are JUST what I needed. Thank you.
As a fellow 57 y/o I loved your video. Spot on !
Thank you.🙏🏽
I’m going in April 25!
It has been a great experience for me and a much needed change. I hope it turns out the same for you!
I’m living the Mexican Dream to , in Oaxaca Mexico, mountains Ahuaaaa🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽🎉🎉🎉🌮🌮🌮🌮
You’ve helped so many, you deserve everything good. ❤
Thank you so much. Your encouragement is helping me to think about going to Mexico.
You can do it!
Congratulations for having the courage and foresight to follow your dream.
Gracias :)
You're a super brave lady. Good luck with your future adventures.
Thanks for sharing your story Mora! It inspires me.
I'm so glad!
YES that is true peace your experiencing, I'm truly happy for you
Thanks for sharing your story. You are very brave to make the decision, to take a giant leap of faith. I'm very happy for you. Welcome to Mexico!!
Beautiful lush area!
Thank you so much for telling your story! I’m 53 and have been thinking about it for 3 years but too afraid to actually do it. I needed to hear this!
GOOD FOR YOU, may your dreams come true
Thank you for sharing your life with me!
I'll be in Patzcuaro in a month, several friends there. Congratulations on your move. I'll keep an eye out for you 👍🙏
Hi Mora. Thanks for this video. I'm 57 as well and looking to retire early at 62. Your story is quite inspirational and I wish you the best.
I wish you the best! Thanks for commenting :)

Muchas gracias! Espero que puedas conseguir lo que deseas muy pronto!
@MoraMargaret 🙏 gracias por leer mi mensaje bendiciones
You have such an incredible story
Love your channel and love your honesty in sharing your story here. These are the important things we all need to hear. Thank you for being the brave one, saying 'no' to the craziness and stepping into the unknowns of a new life. Such refreshing and inspiring content. ❤
Thank you very much :)
Watching your videos is encouraging me to do it, I am ready.
You can do it!
Wow you are such a brave woman. Good for you 👏🏼👏🏼. Patzcuaro is a great place and the food 😋. The people, the weather wow so nice. Enjoy every moment
Hi Mora,

I wish for you many years of peace, health and prosperity so you can continue to enjoy life wherever it may take you.
Keep that smile!
A big hug!

Treasure you are. We have to be honest with ourselves for the sake of good mental health. You are gifted with frankness and your story- telling kept me involved with your path. Thank you.
I appreciate that. Thanks for watching 🙂
You are brave. Sounds like you have set yourself up for a nice life moving forward. Congratulations
Hola Mora,bienvenida y suerte😎
Such an honest and authentic share! Thank you, it’s a wonderful story, I love the Lake District, you are in a good space! So many reasons to be at peace ☮️ in Mexico 🇲🇽
Thank you so much for sharing your motivational videos, I am a burnt out nurse, and I can’t wait to enjoy life and experience a more laid back life.
I feel ya sister! Hang in there :)
Hi, Mora! My husband and I have our consulate appointment for permanent residency and are so excited! We've been going to Puerto Vallarta since 2017 and fell in love with the people, culture, food, and community.
How exciting! I hope it goes well for you!
Thank you so much. I hope you have as wonderful an experience as I have had!
@@MoraMargaret
You’re most welcome.
If you plan to come to Asia, just pick the places that give you flexibility in visa, language, and other attributes that suit your needs.
Feel free to ask me any questions that I can help you answer.
What a beautiful story. Thanks for sharing…..
Thank you! I hope your bike is repairable and you'll get back on track. What's better than some winter time in Mexico? I love it!
I've been busy so I couldn't watch your videos but I'm back. Happy to see you going strong.
We have young kids and looking to relocate to Mexico permanently. Cant wait to see where you land 🙏🏼 we have no clue where to go in Mexico
It's a big country! There are many opportunities for low cost living in places that never get talked about in most videos/books etc.. I hope to explore more when we leave this lovely spot near Patzcuaro!
Welcome!
You look very much at peace and happy. That’s what life is about to seek a place to make you joyful and at peace. I’m glad you found your place. May you continue to live in that manner. Greetings from Los Angeles
Thank you so much! That's exactly how I feel!
Patzcuaro is one of my favorite places in Mexico! I haven’t been able to explore the whole country yet. It will be interesting to see where you land.
This is such a beautifully zen video Mora!!! I'm now a senior -- and have decided to give myself a gift of as much travel as possible in Mexico during coming years. As happened to you, the very decision and intention brings me much joy and excitement! --Thanks!
That's fantastic! Mexico is a wonderful country to explore.
You too! There are so many places to see, I haven't been to Taxco yet either. Have a wonderful vacation!
You are a superb storyteller.
Wow, thank you!
Amen Sister! I've got my fingers crossed for you :)
RIP 🙏my mother..went to City college, became a RT ICU for decades..I saw the toll it took on her...♥️
Mora, I am so happy for you. It takes guts to pick up and move somewhere that is so different from what you are accustomed to. I am a Mexican American, born in Texas. I have never been to Mexico. My mother born in Mexico and father in Texas. I have always lived in California. I would love to go visit at some point in my life, I am 62 years old and just retired.
It is never too late to visit Mexico!
Thank you for sharing your story. The work does all accumulate.
I'm glad you found joy! this is inspiring...I hoping to retire soon and worried about money. But I think i just have to take the leap!
Wow Mora, I am 45 and feel the same way with this corp world. I am ready to do the same. I admire your courage! Your vlogs are amazing & the pooches make videos so much interesting Enjoy nature & Mexico. Cuidate y Que Dios te Bendiga. 🫶🏻🇲🇽🙏🏼💖

So happy for you, enjoy your peace and new life.
Very inspiring! Thank you for sharing your adventure.
Yes! Can relate to so much of your story but have not gathered the courage to make the move you finally accomplished. Have been dreaming of Mexico for quite a while. Couple more loose ends to take care of and then will be heading South to see what may be waiting for me, dog and cat. You are an inspiration!!🤙
Gracias! The world is full of possibilities! I hope you have a wonderful time :)
