I can’t wait to hear how this relationship with the estate unfolds. I adore that you are so in tune with your house/homes and understand that they are a whole personality and being of their own. That you respect and honor that makes you that much more special. About the naysayers….ugh. There’s always gonna be those people who feel entitled to make negative comments. Listen, you do NOT have to justify any of your choices, decisions or actions. Especially to those poo poo-ers. If you feed that fire and comment back they will only get worse. In the words of the great Rupual “if they don’t pay your bills? You pay them no mind”. You are such a unique, talented, charming, intelligent and fun individual. Let that shine about you and don’t worry over the negative stuff. You could also just block them. I don’t feel an ounce of shame in blocking that jealous, toxic and negative bs from entering my life. You shouldn’t either. “Not today Satan!”. 😂 Anyway, I’m excited to see more content from you. Cheers!
I feel like we need to be friends, lmao, this was such a lovely comment to read. Thank you! It's just always the saaaaaame comment about trim work; how DARE you paint it! I've never had the intrusive thought of not liking something someone did and going "I'm gonna let them know I hated it." If you've got nothing nice to say, don't say it. And amen to RuPaul, sister friend knows what's up! Cheers to you my dearest!
Wonderful story. Thank you for sharing. As for painting “original woodwork”, your home, your rules. And the home is gorgeous so nobody should have anything negative to say. You are clearly enjoying your home and that’s all that counts.
Sweetie, I LOVE your attitude about the house, the naming of it, and your entire aesthetic - You'll always find haters who live to rain on your picnic, that's about them, it has nothing to do with you. I was blessed to find an 1890 farmhouse-style home in Connecticut a few years ago (like you, I wanted an old house, I wouldn't even look at anything built after 1899). Your wonderful videos are inspiring me to bring it back to what it was 130 years ago. You have amazing taste, and an attitude more of us need - THANK YOU! (P.S., the clip from AHS was a glorious touch)
Thank you so much for saying that!! My heart is so full with these types of comments, I can't thank you enough. And we can all use a little Madison Montgomery in our lives, lol. I'd love to see what your home looks like!!
As a new subscriber, I loved watching and learning about the purchase and the renovation of your "estate." A beautiful home and I hope many good times ahead too. Happy New Year and all the best!
Love listening to you and watching your video. You have such a comforting presence and could of listened all night. And I love historic houses, living in a converted school building myself. 😊
I loved watching this video and hearing the back story. I’m shocked that you didn’t have an inspection. I love in Northern California and no one would consider purchasing without an inspection! Our home was built in 1949 and has the original lath & plaster and old wiring that nowhere in the house had been grounded. That was our only demand that all of the outlets were changed to gfi outlets so we hopefully wouldn’t burn the house down. Like you, our house “spoke to me” the moment we pulled up in front of it. The owners had DIY’d most of their restoration and that has given us many laughs. But the original crystal door knobs and the character drew me in, so here we are 13 years later, still making changes as we go.
I love that! I've had a mixed relationship with inspections. The first house I had one, he found a few things but otherwise, missed nothing. Naturally, I had an inspection on the second house. That fool missed a TON of stuff. So here, with the market the way it was/is, I took the gamble. And I lost on one key component, lol, which I'll share next week! Thank you for reaching out!!
It's always in the beginning that's the hardest, right? You toss an idea out and people scrunch their noses at it, but then you DO it and they say "Oh... well yeah, that looks good, you were right." Persistence pays off!
Agreed that when you know, you know. On my current home and years ago in my NY home, as soon as I walked in the door I knew that these were my houses. They both were 1920s homes, needed lots of work, but spoke to me.
You are such a natural at this and exude warmth and casualness. Stay script free and just have fun. I am shocked you don't have a larger following but I ssee that changing. As for the changes you make to YOUR home, do what you want because it is YOURS. My husband and I bought a 1964 Ranch 13 years ago and did whatever we wanted to make this house our forever home. We embraced much of the old style (dusty rose kitchen counters which now matches the dining room walls) and changed what we wanted. I look forward to seeing more of this beautiful home.
Thank you so much! I think script free is the way to go, the wildcard of whatever comes out of my mouth is the exciting thing, lol. Can't wait to share more with you!!
i will assume my algorithm brought me to your channel for one of two reasons; 1. home decor/diy... or 2. handsome, beefy fella. either way, so pleased to be here. your story parallels my own a fair bit. i'm currently in my third home, all three have been historic fixer uppers. the second one, a pre-war red brick ranch was a little haunted, but it had coved and trayed ceilings and adorable built-ins, so i couldn't say no. i remember walking in with my agent (also named chad), and even though the power was off and it was early january, the living room felt sunny and warm. i instantly knew, this was the one. my current house (much to your chagrin) is a mid-century ranch. this was a one owner, built in 1960 and it was being sold by the surviving children of the original owners, Don and Mary Metzler. i just find your story so fascinating, again, because i see parallels there. anywhooo, about painting some of the original woodwork... don't sweat the people who comment negatively, unless they are offering to pay your bills. lol, another excellent video, Sean!
I love this, lol. And your story really does mimic mine!! I think mid-century homes are fantastic, and in my mind I was gonna be able to have fun with it, but when the reality set in I just finally and ultimately realized it's not my personal vibe, hahaha. Having said that, I've been refinishing a basement for a client and after painting, she asked if I loved it, to which I said yes, of course. Then she asked "Do you love the color though?" And I said, full honesty, "This is not a color I would use myself, BUT, that doesn't mean I don't love it." I love when people love a vibe for themselves! Just like with painting trim, lol, do your thing!
I can't believe that I haven't found your channel before! Love it. I live in South Africa and worked in the building industry (mainly restoration) for more
I have been anxiously anticipating this video. It certainly did not disappoint. Can't wait for next week and following your restoration journey. Happy New Year!
I think I have a new favorite RUclips channel! Can’t wait to see more of your new place. Congratulations! I’m old house obsessed, too. I bought an 1881 Victorian farmhouse in the NW burbs of Chicago years ago and it’s been a worthwhile journey. I wish I would’ve done more photo and video of the restoration projects so this will be fun to follow your adventure. Whereabouts in Wisconsin?
Thank you! And welcome! I wish my house was more of a style, I think it's categorized at Victorian Folk, but it's hard to find visual evidence of that style house and I have no idea what this baby looked like the day it was built. I'm up in the Fox Valley in the Appleton area!
Love the video. I only started following you at Christmas, so I hasn't heard much of your history. As I watched I was thinking this guy has a great story teller and has a nice voice, he should should write and create audio books. Let than a minute later, you mention authoring 3 book. I was like OMG. I'm looking forward to session 3 and will be going back to catch up on 1 and 2. Be you and do you. The hell with what others say. You are obviously doing it right! Happy New Year!
@ I was on James (jeez, forgot the street) by Patrick Henry HS (Camden). Loved the house which is now a disaster (sadly) and when I lived there, loved the diverse neighborhood. Now though, it’s rough over there. Also lived in South Mpls by Lake Nokomis. Now in Burnsville.
@@wenDesigner well we were practically neighbors! It's definitely rough there now, which is sad. I drove past my old house this summer and it, too, has just... welp. I dunno, you've gotta let go, I guess, I can't get upset over the lack of care lol. But for a time it was gorgeous!
What a glorious video to start the New Year off with! I have such optimism for 2025 and today, unexpectedly, this was in my suggestions 🎆🙂!! I watched it from start to finish, and have to say my favorite part was when you said "this was going to be my goddamn house" followed by Madison Montgomery and/or Channel Oberlin saying "Surprise, bitch. I bet you thought you'd seen the last of me." I cry laughed for real; you are hysterical. It makes me slightly cringe that I was one of the people who found "The Estate" to sound potentially pretentious, and we've already cleared that misunderstanding up prior to this video, but the lightbulb 💡 really and truly went off at the beginning of this video with your definition of the word "estate." I get it now!! 😃 It's not "The Estate" as in "have the chauffeur bring around the car, the Dowager Countess is leaving," it's "The Estate" as in what was left property-wise after a party's passing. I get it, I get it, I so totally get it!!!! Clever little witch, she sent seating assignments - that is a very, very, VERY clever name for your home!! I can't tell you how much I loved every single minute of this. I feel from two of your foreshadowing statements (something about not wanting to replace a roof on the cat pee house, followed by the freshly painted bedroom wall to cover water damage) a major roof repair may be the huge monster lurking in your tale? 😉 Time will tell, as in we'll find out in a future episode of (cue theme music) The Estate. I know you say you'd like for there to be a "The Victorian" or a "The Tudor" in your future, but I have to tell you I believe in my very soul from the way your eyes light up and the depth of your dimple (that dimple I still want to park my Cadillac in!) when you speak of "The Estate" you're home. THIS is your home. And Dorothy? There's no place like home 🏡🌈🙂 love, William 💜
This made me blush, grin, and laugh loudly. Thank you so much for reaching out, William! And I know we cleared it up! But you weren't the only one, lol, and you were the kindest about it! I cringe myself at how many people thought the same and didn't say anything, and hopefully they watched this and realized "oh... yes, that plays." The foreshadowing is very real though, along with... lots and lots of things, hahaha. Can't wait to keep doling out info!!
@restoring_sean Me again. (I've been dying to use that after watching your video, and counting the seconds until I could, so thank you for writing back and giving me an opportunity to use it!!) I'm so happy I could make you blush, grin, and laugh loudly 🙂 I meant every word I said. I'm on the edge of my seat for future videos. I certainly hope one of the unexpected things isn't a ghost!! Now please grin, I must run to the store before going to work and need to back my car out of your dimple. 😘 love, William 💜
Your channel, so far, reminds me of shows I have watched on HGTV. Only this is more personal and includes the story and I like that. Hopefully I will have time to continue watching your videos and see how things continue for you in The Estate.
Just getting towards the end of your vid. I don't care if not everything is "crafty". It's more important just to see you and how things are going for you. Be safe and healthy and, look forward to this new year and what it bring for you. :-) HUGE HUGS! P.S...LOOOOOVE The color combination for exterior!!!!!!!!
I believe you were meant to be where you are, and having difficulties in the process makes you appreciate it more. No matter what you say or do on RUclips some Negative Nancy is going to rain on your parade. I have figured that out from looking at the comments on people's videos. As Thumper's mom said, if you can't say something nice don't say nothing at all. Glad you got your house and you can call it what you want. Good luck with your future projects!
Love your content as always you are great in front of the camera. I don’t believe you need a script, you tell a great story that flows so well that I can feel the emotion you have and passion for what you do. If I were to guess on what’s original woodwork it would be the staircase! It’s beautiful in the space, I love the recessed panel and appears to be well built. BTW…I’m on the team to paint original woodwork, it helps tie the non original work to it. Carry on the great work.
You read my mind on the woodwork. With infinite resources and time and patience, absolutely, match all the new to the old. But with me being such a delicate little flower with limited resources... slather 'em up. And thank you, by the way! I appreciate you reaching out!!
You are a great storyteller Sean! And you need a script about as much as Lance Armstrong needs training wheels. I'm really looking forward to the next episode. Happy New Year!
Sean, you got my curiosity up and excited about what you have done so far and the future to come. You also mentioned about I think two books you have written what are the names of? Your friend Terry in Athens Georgia. Happy New Year 🎆
This is the first video i see of yours . I subscribed then went to see your Christmas tree. I loved it. I bought paint to do a plum and gold tree but ended up doing burgundy clusters which i loved but I'm so inspired for next year. I am in love with what I've seen coined "whimsigoth" which is like basically the same. A lil practical magic, boho, and witchy Victorian. I loved this video, i can't wait to see all about your reno on your home. I do have to ask tho, where did you find the gold garland, the gold topper stems, and those purple whispy stems? Anyways happy New Years to you!
Thank you so much! And I've never heard of 'whimsigoth' but I am immediately intrigued by it! The garland was a seasonal product from Hobby Lobby, as were the purple stems but I'm pretty sure those are a year-round product because they were in the general botanical section. The tree topper stems were from JoAnn Fabrics!
Simply had to watch this again from start to finish. I'm so grateful I came across you and subscribed, you're my new favorite thing!! I do have a burning question that simply can't wait. I paused the video when you show the before and after exterior side by side, and I noticed you put up a balcony on the second story, which makes sense as it appears there actually is a door 🚪 up there. My question is: I am approachable? (Sorry, one of my favorite Moira Rose one liners!) Seriously this time, my question is: is that just decorative, or can you actually walk out onto an actual balcony? William 💜
I literally read that in her voice, hahaha! Thank you for reaching out and I'm very smiley that you watched it a second time through, lol. To answer your question, yes, that can be used as a balcony! I'll get more into it in the coming weeks, but suffice to say, the roof over the front porch was rebuilt to hold weight!
why do need to write a script for a video? you just make that video to be authentic. it’s not that you’re shooting a movie…. and why does it seem as if some queens have more money than others…..
Considering the first 30 videos of this channel were regarding events from 2-6 years ago, I wrote scripts so as to not leave details out regarding the topics they covered.
I love you energy and spirit when talk about the estate, what life you brought back into it, looking forward to see what are doing next.
Thank you!

That staircase and the doors inside alone would have sold me! You have a beautiful home!!

Oh Sean, I would have loved knowing you when you lived in MN. I refurbished a N. Mpls home. Great to see your skill and happy to be here now! ❤
Thank you! And I'm so happy that you're here! Where in N. Mpls? My first house was in North, in the Folwell neighborhood.

Great overview - Have a Happy and Prosperous 2025 at the Estate 🏡 🕊️
Thank you!!
Thank you!! Happy New Year to you as well
First vid of the year! You're an inspiration Sean, doing craft vid or not. Looking forward for more videos. ❤👍
What a great comment to start the year off with, thank you so much!!!
@ You're very welcome! 😊❤️
Happy New Year! Love the new format. Can’t wait for the new season
Thank you! I'm excited to keep pumping these out!
@@restoring_sean You’re welcome handsome
Glad you’re back handsome. If you lived in Michigan I’d be trying to win your heart. Keep up the great work!!
Hahaha thank you!
You can call it The Estate , for whatever reason you want lol. I can't wait to see more of what's to come.
Thank you!
Sean, you got my curiosity up and excited about what you have done so far and the future to come. You also mentioned about I think two books you have written what are the names of? Your friend Terry in Athens Georgia. Happy New Year 🎆
Thank you Terry! I've written a book series titled "The Onyxus Chronicles," and they can all be found on Amazon. Happy New Year to you!
Wishing you a very Happy New Year! ❤❤❤
And a Happy New Year to you!
Looking forward to seeing the restoration and I'm glad you didn't have a script. You did a great job without it.
Hey thanks!!
@restoring_sean I was hoping that was going to be your answer!! 🙂
THANKS YOU SEAN I LOVE YOU 😀🥰😀🥰🥰❄☃🎇✨🎉
This is the same layout as my old house in downtown Denver.
Really??? Send me some pictures on Instagram if you can, I would LOVE to see!
As long as we get to watch you 😳😅
and don't forget, you can always decorate for spring/Easter 🤪
Hahaha I'm working on another decorating video now!!
The house was meant to be. If it had not worked out, it wasn't meant to be. Happy 2025.
Happy New Year! Thank you!
Wonderful intro into the estate. Looking forward to next week!
Thank you!!!
HI RESTORING SEAN HAPPY NEW YEAR 2025 LOVE DAVID😀🥰🥰🥰❄❄❄❄☃☃☃🎇🎇🎇✨✨✨🎉🎉🎉🎉
Happy New Year David!
Than 40 years
Well I'm so happy you've found me then! Welcome, and thank you!!
❤❤❤❤❤
Happy New Year! Looking forward to watch the upcoming videos in 2025! 🎉🍾🥂⭐️
I'm kinda mad at how big your forearms look in this episode. Is this all from ripping out carpet?
Bwaahahaa it's just help from the hardworking folks at Industrial Light and Magic, I promise.
why do need to write a script for a video? you just make that video to be authentic. it’s not that you’re shooting a movie….
and why does it seem as if some queens have more money than others…..
Considering the first 30 videos of this channel were regarding events from 2-6 years ago, I wrote scripts so as to not leave details out regarding the topics they covered.
