Gosh dang it!!!! It is so NICE to see videos from you again! I can't tell you how much I love your instructional videos. You learn me so much. I'm beyond stoked that you are in the shop and doing well!
I LOVE the take apart videos!!! You have inspired me to build my very first vw motor. I have a lot of stock vw parts I have acquired with the purchase of my '67 bug and I want to tear into it now. I REALLY appreciate your guidance and knowledge.
Hi guess aka George needs a new set of cylinders people don't realize this if you don't trim the plastic buttons a. 1/8 of an inch so they don't rub in the cylinders or don't use them they screwed up this engine and besides you don't really need them as the pistons have circlips and need the space to move .that's why there's spacers on the back side of the crank for the right amount of endplay !! Guess goerge should rebuild or at least new rings and cylinders ..glad to see the master back at it ...thanks Darren for your knowledge ...!!!!!
Darrin I could watch you break-down and build/rebuild V-Dub engines all day long. I just hope you are not putting to much strain on your newly repaired body/neck. I want to see you building for a long time to come... I love this shi...stuff
I worked at a. company screen printing on large glass sheets, that were placed in baking racks lined with felt, which would have to change maybe twice or three times a year, so they decided to try using Teflon rails with notches cut to better keep the sheets of glass separated. Long story short, every sheet of glass broke because the tremendous expansion of the Teflon during the bake cycle. Those cylinders are probably warped and a bit oval from the pressure of those buttons at running temperature, and is probably why that head and cylinders were so stuck.
Mr. Customer, Aka Jorge, let me help out on the decision Get it all fixed right!!!! if ones side is out the other is bound to too. Good work glad to see you back Darrin.
Man that head was really on there I have never seen anything like that. The Teflon buttons sound like a great idea but yikes, I'm glad I have never used them.
i can remember my mom going what the hell lol having compressor hooked to plug ....great work bra obviously the kid has no idea he has the best guy on the job !
Thanks for the great tips and tricks I am still learning things about VW Bug I have a 1971 super beetle and a 1966 Baja bug that I am working on so any advice I can get is really much appreciated.
Hi Darrin! New to the channel and you have rekindled the fire for my love of VW's specifically dune buggies. Anyway really love the channel. OK question. What things should you look for when buying old engines, blocks, heads ect. when you want to use them for a rebuild? What would cause you not to buy a block? Obviously cracks and major damage but things that novice would not notice. Thanks!!!
Hey Darrin I just picked up a VW dune buggy roller, everything is in great shape just need to add an engine is there any certain things I should look for or any engines I should stay away from? I found a 1600cc on Kijiji for a decent price but the engine is in boxes and I don't want to end up spending money on junk. I'm a Chevy guy and I've been through many small blocks but this is my first adventure with a VW.
hey hi Darrin , PR in Arkansas, can you make a video on explaining all the problems that can make the fuel leaks on the carb also the damage on the internals. I have an original 72 and just bought a new carb and it was leaking like crazy. I will be doing the same test that you did here, to check cylinders leaks. thanks
i would like to stop by one day ask a few things i am getting too many surprises where i been going , are you listed anywhere ? i am in inverness fla ,,,,i ride almost everyday so it would be a ride to go see you i am 67 still enjoy some work ,,,monday may 24 / 2021 thanks for the lessons
comp test will only tell you if you have good or bad compression, and how much. a leak down test will tell you where your (bad) compression is disappearing to.
I have noticed that on the stock motors you are pulling apart have wrist pin Keepers in place how come the big motors don't have that and they're using the Teflon buttons? And what is the fix Sir?
vwdarrin by the way my bus had white primer on (factory )and I want to repaint it and get exactly the same color ,should I use white or grey primer (does it matter ?)
Like to watch you tear down and rebuild. Seems like I've learned more by watching you than other channels keep up the great work
It’s a real treat to watch you tear into that motor! Your experience and expertise shows.
Gosh dang it!!!! It is so NICE to see videos from you again! I can't tell you how much I love your instructional videos. You learn me so much. I'm beyond stoked that you are in the shop and doing well!

As always great info thanks for sharing your years of experience on vw motors.
I like the exam & evaluation you do on these.
On my flywheel lock - I painted the UP side of mine as I kept fumbling with it
Glad to see you're back. I learn so much from you videos.

Hi Darrin Notice your valve resurfacing machine is missing from bench good to see you back!
Alright, back in the saddle again! The prediagnosis is what makes your videos the go-to. Thanks! Keep it up Sensei👍
Thanks for the great tips and tricks I am still learning things about VW Bug I have a 1971 super beetle and a 1966 Baja bug that I am working on so any advice I can get is really much appreciated.

Didn't know they made 'em back in 1914.. Them Germans sure were ahead O' their time;)
Great vid though, very good info and experience.
Looking forward to the next video

Lol, right!
thanks, it was worth me watching
Good to see you back and doing well. Are you going to bug jam in a few weeks?
Good video. Thanks

I wondered about those Teflon keepers...
Love this kind!

What do you have your pressure set at?
Love it! Thank you for taking us along with you. What is the advantage of a leak-down over a compression test?
comp test will only tell you if you have good or bad compression, and how much. a leak down test will tell you where your (bad) compression is disappearing to.
Thanks for the info!
I'm so daft . I saw 1914, and you know what I thought!!
Never heard of a Teflon cover!
hey Darrin, how wide/high is that bench? anything you'd change about it?
new here I like take em apart videos. I 'll be hanging around.
great vid
I have noticed that on the stock motors you are pulling apart have wrist pin Keepers in place how come the big motors don't have that and they're using the Teflon buttons? And what is the fix Sir?
With those issues will it cause the head to run hotter than usual?
Nice thanks
Darrin, How do I contact you about building me a 1914 Engine?
How much pressure should the rings be able to hold before they "blow-by"?
Darrin is back woohoo
How does one prevent ring gaps from lining up on their own over time?
what do you think of aluminum wrist pin buttons? I have them installed on my motor
i am running them on some race motors with good Results , have not put on the street yet
not running on the street yet. 2332 11:1 51.5 FK87 46x37 cnc wedge port, crank triggered.
Sounds like a nice combination
vwdarrin thanks for all the great videos! If I could only download your engine building knowledge from your brain!
cool videos.
I got a 74 standard baja. it runs for about 10 mins then dies. doesnt wanna start back up. any ideas on what i should check. thanks
think its a 1600 stock btw
It outta be well worn. It's been running for over 100 years.
hey darrin was the teflon keepers sticking out past the piston
Did you watch the video?
Ive never seen them teflon things before it dont look like it was a good idea.
cool...feeling better?
Does VW stand for Volkswagon? That company wasn't founded until 1937!
Just an all change at regular intervals and a new oil filter thise VW motors would last forever
There is really very little beneficial substitute for factory engineering/parts!
Where in Florida is Darrin's shop anyone know?
Teflon buttons....they need to just stop selling those things all together.....
I thought it was 1915 not 1914 so im confused now
Jared Micallef 1914cc
Is it actully 1914 and everyone just calls it 1915?
how bout 2017? I'd like to have one of these engines to run a generator! for my off grid house. maybe two. convert one to run on steam!
1914????
VW was only FOUNDED in 1937... WTF are you talking about???
Are you taking in jobs now? I asked before with no response! !
1914??????????????
if you actually do the math it comes out to 1914 but 1915 Sounds better
vwdarrin sorry ,thought that you meant date ,sorry again
vwdarrin by the way my bus had white primer on (factory )and I want to repaint it and get exactly the same color ,should I use white or grey primer (does it matter ?)
it all good . make it a great day
vwdarrin i can use both ?
Xxb
Thanx for the vid bud!
Don't push yerself too hard.
We're always here.😜
great video Darrin!
