I appreciate the video. I had a clip break while riding in the smoky Mts. Just so happens a man offered me a ride to a local VW guy. I ordered a solid shaft as soon as I got back to my motel. I am a fan of all your videos.
Hey Darrin Thanks, you can count me in .. as one of those guys that really appreciates it all. And I do like the long version of showing everything, without the fast-forwarding editing. As, while it is repetitive, your sharing tons of collateral learning and knowledge. That kind of teaching is like pure gold ! Thanks from Canada
Daaamg. This is from ten years ago! Wow. Well this helped me out a lot. I have problems with one of my rocker arm assemblies fitting too tight and I think it’s the studs. Probably needs to be deburred. Also I never knew about the shims, so it could be that also. Already took off assembly so will disassemble and check the blocks then check the spacers. Thanks so much Darren!
I get the overall idea of the shims. Good job explaining that. Would be nice if the viewers who repeatedly asked about the offset of the rockers over the valve stem could have gotten an answer. No where in the video shows or alludes to that portion of the setup. That was the only reason I came here .
Absolutely dead center. I say that because there is no rotational provision in the head/valve assembly ... Zero. Everything touching the valve, keepers, springs, spring cap, and spring to the cap, keeper to the valve, keeper to the cap, are all cleated together with a tremendous amount of friction. Nothing rotates or has the ability to rotate. So ... the ideal strike to the top tip of the valve ... is a dead straight-on strike. Could the valve wander some ? Sure. But that rotation would be between the spring and the aluminum head, and very slowly over thousands of miles. Don't fall for old information ... that has been repeated thousands of times. Hope that helps.
I don't expect a response given this video is 8 years old now, lol.. But I have been subscribed to you and EZGZ for some time.. We are building my 15 year old daughter's '72 now that we purchased when she was 3.. She and I are builder her a motor for her FFA (Future Farmers of America) project out of a few motors we got in a parts car deal.. I am glad that I found this video for when we do her heads.. We are going to build a 1641 with a 110 cam (maybe look into the fk cams now that I saw another one of your videos on that as apposed to the W cams and lobe ramp).. I really learn alot about these engines from you and EZ both.. Thank you for doing these.! Especially for folks like us trying to teach our children things like this so we can gain knowledge to bond/learn together.!
Thank you for watching the videos I appreciate it tried to give you a better response but I’m not too good at spelling and my AutoCorrect is giving me fits this morning the FK series is a great choice for a cam much more Val train friendly than the 110 have some new videos coming out soon working on a video right now with CTE building a 40 horse for his bus
@@vwdarrin Sweet.! I look forward to those videos.! Tha ks for the reply.. Which size FK series should I use with stock rockers.? I will do solid shafts, but all my research has gone into the W cams, literally up until lastnight when I saw this video that you mentioned fk in..
What 'hurts me' the most is seeing all the sweat... I moved (from sweaty Dallas) to the dessert mountains where I never sweat. I also marvel at all the rain in some of yalls vids! We get 18 inches a year. Most of it in July. I have a '73 Chevy truck, 454 and 2 69 bugs w/ no rust! Both stored outside for ever. But at 6000 feet or sunshine is devastating! Thanx for all your vids. Better than most.
Please keep making them, I have just subscribed in order to continue learning. On behalf of everyone else who is getting into VW bug/bus and are hungry for knowledge, I thank you for talking through the process and yes I HATE, HATE, HATE IT when the video ENDS. Thanks and have a great weekend.
These vids might not be immediately applicable to all of our projects, but they are great general engine knowledge, and will be handy in the future for someone who is doing a VW. Make sure you or Andrea change the titles to something appropriate so people can search for them later, something like "VW Rocker Arm Installation".
Thx Darrin, i have rebuilt a type 4. It was my first VW engine rebuild. Didn't know anything like this, you have shown me why my engine was not very quite. I'm that one that really needed to know this set up info, again thx keep it up.
Hey Darrin, I watched the part of how to open the packages 3 times, I think I'm ready to unpack some stuff now LOL. Great video as usual, thanks for sharin another chapter in your knowledge base !! doug
I have a 1974 beetle and it is a lot of fun working on it! I'm n the process of turbocharging it. I love this video series and thank you for making the videos!
Great Video!! Appreciate you taking the time to share your knowledge with us. I'm getting ready to attempt first rebuild and have watched many of your videos. Please Keep Up the Good Work. Thank you.
Good video, I am installing a set of cb 1.4 rockers and was curious are you shimming to get the slight offset at the valve tip that some say will rotate the valve or is the side play the biggest concern? Thanks
Good morning if I was able to post a picture I would of my first Volkswagen engine build I tore apart a 1500 got new jugs and pistons from a and a. Got to get new bearings I've learned alot from you gonna get a 120 Cam for my stock heads and lifters
I’m putting a set of cb 1.4 rockers in , when you adjust the side play are you also trying to get that slight offset with the valve tip so they will rotate as some say or are you centrring the valve tip and rocker?cantering them
Thanks for the video! I put mine together this weekend :D I hope I did it all right; There were shims behind the original shafts, and I'm not sure if I need to keep them. I guess I'll find out once I get the new pushrods in?
Sorry for my ignorance, but what are you exactly doing with the shims? I guess you are aligning the rockers relative to the center lines of the valve stems. Do you align them so they are slightly off center from the valve stems? If so, how much?
What do you think about the Pauter roller rockers and are the Scat forged ones any good? I dunno, I'll be putting together a 2110 eventually, but I dont know if I'll use the spanish webers or find some older italian ones. And I don't know if i just get a super street gearbox from aircooled.net or what. Maybe porsche 930 axles , I dont know what aircooled torsion bar style ones are like
Hi Darrin, I got a set of brand new CB 044 heads, can I put my stock rocker arm assembly on the CB heads? Also my new CB heads have dual rev springs I want to take those off and put the stock springs on. What do you think?
goodride2004 zero tolerance should be relaxed on the valve stem with pressure I guess he confirms it. Steel expands at a rate of one thousandth of an inch so go figure your tolerance will be changed
I have learned absolutely nothing from watching your videos. You ramble on and on and make things more confusing then they already are. Simple explanations would have sufficed. Please just "Get to the point" instead of blah blah blah. If you were my tech school teacher I'd have flunked or quit school

Everything should watch this to see what is involved building a motor who want you to throw it together. Thank for the great information.

Thanks for going into detail on the solid rocker build, I never did it before and after your help I think I can do it. Thanks again

hi jane here, manufacturer of rocker arms,if need rocker arms, feel free to contact me whatsapp +8613540757860
I learned a lot from this. Thanks. Are VW rocker arm parts basically interchangeable? Do you use High Detergent earl? If not, why not? Thanks.
Great video Darren.... Keep 'em coming!
Great video thanks for posting it
Appreciate you takin' the time to record this/these and putting them up - also appreciate your sense of humor and attitude.
Great instructional vid, thanks!
Thank you Darrin!

Great video, very interesting
Tengo un escarabajo año 1972 motor 1600 pero el bloque esta rajado. Mi pregunta es la siguiente eso tiene reparación o debo cambiarlo.
great video

gonna be fun to see it run after seeing how much has to be right so it doesn't go boom
Very interesting
Nicely done.
Hi Darrin, I got a set of brand new CB 044 heads, can I put my stock rocker arm assembly on the CB heads? Also my new CB heads have dual rev springs I want to take those off and put the stock springs on. What do you think?
Are you lining the rockers up off the center of the valve stem a little bit for rotation or does it matter? Thanks.
Have you ever done this with the motor in the car?
yes I keep watching. 3xs. thanks
thanks grate vid as usual.
I have a 1972 Beetle 1600 but the engine block is cracked. My question is that I have repaired or replaced.
VWDARRIN=VW GOD!
Watching Learning!
Thanks for the video
that one guy is me.... and for the oxymoron phrase... all these other watchers as well.
And I gather there is some advantage to the solid rocker shaft. What is it? Is a stock shaft not solid?
thanks for the video!
i like the alternator
Which is better generator or alternator?
How come you don't follow the prescribed torque sequence on the heads? First 7 ft-lbs followed by 18ft-lbs?
Do the new vw's have simular motors>
can u still us this rocker set up if ur using 120 cam on the 1914/15
cool!
quick question, how do you know when to use the stand shims? too much rocker angle? rocker foot close the the edge of the valve when open?
goodride2004 zero tolerance should be relaxed on the valve stem with pressure I guess he confirms it. Steel expands at a rate of one thousandth of an inch so go figure your tolerance will be changed
I like to watch how you assembly this engine.
thanks tom
this helped me a lotttt
thanks buddy
thanks
and what happened to formerly said huge ass bug in ones light?? lol
Watchin'
hay ron
I don't like using roller rockers on the road anymore. I've seen too many break. They are meant for low use/ full out racing trailered cars.
The engine size is around 1915.39
I’m that one guy lol
First!!!

@7:35 you take the feeler and you don’t do anything with it. 🤷🏽♂️
You ramble way too much (bored and waiting on the pizza delivery guy) , but you don't seem to apply acceptable work practices.
+Copainization For a guy who has no video's and is sitting in his mothers basement eating pizza you ramble way to much. Get a life
