wished i could have watched ur vw vids back in the 70's....no one around here would work on them. i loved driving mine in the winter....never once did i ever get stuck.
Can't tell you how much I appreciate you making these videos and sharing your knowledge with everyone. They have gotten me through a lot of head scratching moments with my beetle. Thanks Darrin!
Thank you, I will be saving the series to view later, I going to get a second hand engine to rebuild so these videos will be infallible, thank you again.
I love your videos. It really makes me want to try a rebuild like that, I love torque wrenches and tolerances :) Some Questions: 1) Do you sell motors, and are they guaranteed mosquito free? 2) What combination of awl, oil and erl works best? 3) Is it true that old volks cases are not supposed to be remachined, ie align-bored and thrust cut? Something about magnesium and Aluminum. 4) Wouldn't it be nice if others besides you and Chris Vallone asked us how we were doing today? ;)
HEY DARRIN Great Videos, and information, thanks. I need help identifying my disc brake set up on my rail buggy. and maybe installing brakes on the front for making it street legal. I heard you also rebuild and sell parts where might I find that page/store.
Would you just rebuild this to be 1600 cc or would you go bigger to 1776 or 1800 ?? My connecting rod went through the case, so I will doing this tear down on a stuck motor I have in my driveway (not the blown up one, of course)...
it depends on your budget if you go bigger you will need more carburetion & exhaust to take advantage of the larger motor , a 1600 with a nice set of carburetors and a cam runs really sweet , what you spend on the machine work to go to a 1776 , you could probably end up buying a exhaust or carbs for a 1600 build
Hey Darin, really surprised that someone like yourself who rebuilds engines all the time you wouldn't have a pulley puller? I don't think I would want an engine that you hammered on, try a little more finesse. You could probably save some money on unnecessary part changes as well. Thanks.
Thanks for taking the time to teach anyone who needs to learn VW stuff. Take care.

I usally don't like long videos, but I got to rip into one of these this winter, so you just hit my favorite list. Thanks.
Jeff

Awesome. I can't get enough of this. Learn something everytime I watch. I like the cam trick.
Thank you for sharing your experience. I'm working on a Mexican case right now I got blessed and found a new engine. Blessings
You make taking it apart look so easy but I know it is much harder than that .;-)
Thanks for the cool video.

ohh another engine build ,love it
Good stuff as always
I'm sure his motors run great but I can't get over some of his heavy handed tactics. Prying, banging, beating into submission and the like.
I know you'll bring it back to life
Cool video. Thanks, buddy.

AK is a 1973 1600cc 48bhp DIN, 46HP SAE-net. USA-only according to what I found. Not bad at all Darrin

thanks for looking at the video

Do you have a video on the external accessories? Fan housing, intake pipes, carburetor ect/
You gotta love the VW engine, but I have wondered why you are hooked on them, vs the big muscle American ones?

yes sir we will do it together, on the you tube, and thanks for the core
Does banging hard on the piston pins cause damage to the crank since it is hooked to it? Wouldn't matter if you had the crank ground I suppose.
thanks for teaching everyone what they need to learn on there own... don't you know what job security means? peace from ScootersVw
thanks for the video!
How much will ask for this one when it's done?
