3:36 I screamed! I am living in a 1950's house and the perception of my neighbours are that I live in an "old" house, even when I have natural materials like wood, glass & stone, etc. and they have just artificial plastic, but hey ho. As that guy has said "the modern part of the house was build at Elizabeth I time", I had to celebrate him!!!!
Giles is my hero restoring that kitchen, not many left and he has a restored functioning authentic kitchen. Thank you Julie I look forward to seeing part 2.
Hello! I'm not sure if you've seen it or not, but the 2nd video is about the Net Zero Castle! It's quite incredible ❤! Then, there's going to be a 3rd video regarding the ghosts that are there! That one hasn't been released yet.
I'm such a fan of the new filming style. What an absolute beautiful tudor kitchen. It seems new windows are the the theme of the week. I thoroughly enjoyed the episode
The kitchen was beautiful and so interesting to see what one looked like and how it worked. But the great hall!! Wow! The hammered beam ceiling and stained glass! What a gem. Thank you and Giles for letting us see. Looking forward to more.
What a fabulous restoration of the Tudor kitchen! I love that it was the first major restoration on the estate. The multiple fires for each pot is fascinating. Thank you!
OK, so what kind of babies do they have when an ape marries a unicorn? The Elizabethan kitchen is fascinating. The carved wood and archway ceiling in the Great Hall is breath-taking !!!
Tudor pottage (vegetable stew) recipe: 1. chop a cup of: turnip, onion, parsnip, carrots, pepper, 2. add a cup of pearl barley (or oats) & cook for 10 min 3. add chopped leak, cabbage, mushrooms, herbs (rosemary) and cook for 10-15 minutes
I find your videos so interesting. And I get the impression you are the real deal and centred and have adapted so well all these years in the UK. You are so refreshing and enjoy your life values. Just wonderful
This may sound silly, but I don't know how Julie didn't dance with joy when she walked into the kitchen. I would have been so ecstatic, I probably would have jumped and dance with glee. It is so remarkable. The chef working in the kitchen was superb. I can imagine the fresh smells coming from the herbs she was cutting.
That Tudor kitchen is absolutely fascinating. I can actually picture cook's from that period, cooking for the family. It would be wonderful if this kitchen could be preserved as the treasure of history it is. Of course some modern touches are necessary; however, hopefully without removing historical details. The Tudor stew looks scrumptious. Especially knowing its ingredients were locally sourced.
Just glorious. I love that the owners of these great houses are dedicated to their restoration and upkeep. They are standing still in tribute to all the people who lived during it's time. To think of all the history they've witnessed. The wars they've survived. They are amazing. Thank you. 😊
Wow, wow, wow! 🎉 The food, the house, the restored rooms and the company, top notch episode! Thank you for sharing this gem, what a wonderful way to spend a day. Looking forward to the next episode! ⚘️🌿
I love the new filling style. Truly superb. Secondly your table etiquette when eating at lunch was so good but I can still tell you have that American edge and I loved it and I just want to say never lose that. England is like a second home to me but I’m proud to be an American. ❤
Such a lovely man. I'm glad people are taking an interest in their heritage. Now, that soup looked like someone just cleaned out their fridge and cooked everything. They both tried to oversell how good it tasted....
Julie you have a unique and personal way of delivering such fascinating information regarding your subjects and this did not fail. I can’t wait for the next episode. 🇦🇺
This is one of the most creative and inspiring restoration projects I have ever seen - its amazing how ancient features of Athelhampton, long since disappeared, have been magically recreated so we can experience and enjoy them again so many centuries later! Simply awesome! Brilliant job Giles and superb episode Julie!
I loved watching this , it is fantastic to see the care , detail and history of this kitchen intact , in new ways. I liked the feature of serving windows one for in and one for out to assist in decreasing any sort of kitchen confusion . To add the side cooking area with with the illusion of how they would have cooked for so many peoples and needing many pots , I imagine .
Wow! Wonderful to see a Tudor kitchen in full working order. I am wondering how long it took the head chef to get used to working there as opposed to a more "modern" kitchen? I can't wait to see more of Athelhampton and all of the new innovations. Thank you, Julie!
Is the long white open stove kept going by a real fire? I’ve never seen a kitchen like this before it’s really interesting. Love how the new home owner is restoring his home and the kitchen. So interesting!
Thrilled to see Athelhampton! Time to Time with Maggie Smith was filmed there. I always wondered how much was actually depicted in the film. The great hall definitely was. Time to Time was based on a LM Boston book. Her house is one of the UK's oldest Norman houses - Hemingford Grey. It might be a good house for you to visit with your program.
Speachless......what an amazing place! So happy to see how these wonderful treasured homes are living on! Watching with great anticipation for the next episode from Athelhampton! Cheers!
These homes are amazing! I am learning so much from these visits. I’ll be looking forward to your next visit and what looks like very new technology to help run these large homes.
This is absolutely thrilling to watch. I LOVE that kitchen. And could we get that recipe for the Tudor stew she is making?!?! Yummo. 😊 Edited to add:I just saw the recipe link! 🙏🏼🙏🏼 Looking forward to digging into more of vids. This is so fun. I’ve been rather obsessed with all thing UK for a few years now. 😊
Amazing house. The ceilings are overwhelming as they are so beautiful. I wounder how this wood was treated to be beautiful and apparently well after centuries.
I loved learning about the history and seeing this magnificent home! Giles gave us an awesome tour! The kitchen is extraordinary! I am really looking forward to the next video! Love from Vermont
Spectacular kitchen! I remember seeing a fireplace like that one as a child and always wanted one in my kitchen. Could you have Giles send his peeps to Michigan to see if there’s one hiding in my wall too? 😂 All that handiwork throughout the house. Astonishing to think how much collective expertise went into a single room, not to mention an entire estate!
I so enjoyed this episode and cannot wait for the next one. So informative and interesting. Giles seems like a truly dedicated man. Thank you Julie for a great show.
Are you going to show the sitting room, bedrooms, and other rooms along with the gardens in your next episode? ❤️ I miss your opening Title music and you leaving in your car! ❤️!
Such an amazing and historic Castle! I just never get tired of seeing them and learning about them and can nit believe our unique each one truly is and they have their own personality! Thank you for allowing us to take this part one tour and the kitchen is so perfect am sure to cook in. It seems like a very welcoming spot for all who come. The soup truly looked delicious and so good for you!
That was lovely. That's so typical. We never go to the close by places of interest unless we have visitors. I've been to that place once, back in the 1990s but that was to see the garden.
How do you cook in a restored Tudor kitchen? Given modern sanitation requirements, you obviously can't cook as you would have in Tudor times. The pottage may have been served on pewter, but pewter has lead in it! The pottage was cooked in stainless steel, and I doubt that was placed over a wood fire. So I must ask: Where is the fridge? Oven? Sink? A dishwasher, perhaps?
Julie, I find it interesting how you pronounce “beautiful “. You don’t sound at all like someone from Illinois, where we pronounce the ti like a da! 😂🤣😂More like beauDAful!☺️
What a beautiful manor house from the Tudor era! Julie thank you again for sharing this video with all of us! The restoration they are doing is amazing and I am looking forward to the next video. I love historical homes and these tours you do via American Viscountess are probably the BEST!
This video is so beautifully done and your enthusiasm for historical homes is catching! Inspired! What a beautiful building!! "beautiful" is an understatement and words aren't easy to fully describe the home and property. WOW!!
Imagine he was 30 years with Credit Suisse which as of only a few years ago one of the biggest banks in the world and this year will go bankrupt! Great job Giles and his team!
Enjoyed this very much. Athelhampton looks fascinating. I like the fact that the kitchen is working. I presume visitors get to watch the chef in action. Perhaps they need to grow yellow carrots.
I googled Keating before watching this episode so I know the "surprise" and I won't spoil it. Suffice it to say he found a way to eliminate heating and gas bills of 50,000 pounds per year (and more at today's prices). Also, I was wondering why he didn't buy the previous owner's furniture which was sold at auction but now I see why. I love the way he has decorated it.
Apologies for the lateness of this but what a truly wonderful house. I thought the linenfold panelling in the great hall just …. words fail me. Loved your hosts jumper too although fear I may need a little larger for comfort!!
Hello Judy , beautiful job done and very professional .. it's all coming together and it's now a home . you can be super proud.. warm Cape Town regards 🥰
In my 20s I worked midnights (12-8am) and never wanted to miss a daytime English series (I'm in Barrie, Ontario, Canada) of an older woman, with a sweetheart young assistant, that recreated the authentic gardening, cooking and presentation of aristocratic meals in some English castle (I think always the same castle). It was so good but have never seen it replayed. I think it would be very popular now. There was a more recent similar series of two women who road motor bikes going to different locations which was good but not nearly as good as the former. Athelhampton looks like an amazing place though I think the kitchen is not really too authentic looking (may not be the intent). It's a beautiful kitchen but would likely (I think definitely) have barrels and bins of cooking ingredients around with tools and pots and pans and cauldrons etc. as a real working kitchen.
How were they able to effectively warm this large room? I don't see any fireplace remnants/ residue on the woodwork - was there and if so was it cleaned?
Love, love, love seeing these amazing master pieces!! TY Julie!!
