I have converted tail hooks on plugs with bucktail or feathers which turns a good plug into a great plug.....The split ring is absolutely necessary for good motion.....Great Video.....I have been making these modifications for the last 3 years

For only $10. I’ll take the hit on upgrading the hooks on an SP minnow. I just change it to one treble hook on the belly w a barrel swivel in between two split rings. All the other lures are around 20$ so it’s still cheaper.

Hi Zeno you do a great job with your surfcasting channel the information has been invaluable. I'm thinking of purchasing the Century slingshot 1328, here on the Maine coast summertime I do a lot of casting and retrieving with chest waders in the Spring and Fall, would this be a great Rod to match with my PENN Slammer III 6500. why do they sell plugs with the rear single hook faced upwards, but your plugs have the rear hook faced downwards? are there advantages or disadvantages to which direction the single hook is facing?

Daiwa is certainly capable of providing us with quality terminal tackle, so it’s still a mystery to me as to why the SP still comes with garbage hooks and rings.
The new-ish Daiwa Mebachi popper is probably the most underrated popper on the market right now. The 6”, 3 oz sinking version is the exact same profile as a Superstrike littleneck, casts and works just as well (it’s a pretty blatant ripoff of the SS littleneck in terms of body shape/size/profile/cup shape & depth) but unlike the SP it comes through wired with a 350lb swivel, 170lb Owner split rings, and 6x VMC trebles front and rear! Oh and it’s $19.99, which is right in line with the Superstrike 3 oz littleneck that comes with much smaller split rings in comparison and either 3/0 4x VMCs (belly/tail) or 3/0 4x VMC belly and a dressed siwash on the tail.
The SS littleneck is legendary, and for the Mebachi popper to be right there with it in terms of action, performance, and durability, while coming equipped out of the box with far superior terminal tackle and with what I think are much better looks like the carved gill plates, eyes, color patterns (the mackerel and chicken scratch are mint), shows that Daiwa is at least not ignoring us completely.
FWIW I’d recommend anyone that loves throwing a Superstrike littleneck to check them out. They’re so underrated.

Second, In regards to Diawa SP, I’ve noticed that some come styles(colors) (sizes) come with beefier hardware. (Splits) haven’t caught anything large on an SP minnow , but just putting it out there.
An example of the beefier rings can be found on the smallest size . They don’t add a split in the nose. One particular combo that has beefier splits is the 6 3/4 in. Sinking model in Sardine.
Just FYI. You would need to go to a brick and mortar to ensure the beefier hardware. But, I have noticed the sinking model as previous mentioned in Sardine pattern has them.

SurfcastersJournal I hope I didn’t come off like a know it all. I seem to have a knack for doing that. Tight lines. I am going to get a bucktail bass one of these seasons. I’ll keep you posted. I was able to get two on sluggo this year. So, that’s a start.

I've been having a lot of trouble with hooks rusting. Would love some advice on what hooks are the most rust resistant. All my Super Strike hooks are brown now. Everything rusts, what rusts slower...Owners?
Mike Melina best way to prevent it is put a 1 quart container of water in your vehicle throw in the plugs you used for the ride home when you get home give em a quick rinse
@@brucebainmatunucksurfrat7911 Bruce is correct..or rinse them with fresh water. Owners are $$$ but some guys like them better. Salt will eat thru everything

i don't use floating ones..just personal preference
What is your opinion on the spinfisher6 5500?

I want to get into striper fishing so bad. They come up here to Canada as I'm sure you know, and they run up a freshwater river by my house, what would you recommend for fishing stripers in that situation? Just anything eel-like? any special techniques? Anyone feel free to answer if you have experience in it.

In this video zeno mentioned darter but is mostly used in current or rips as my understanding from his book
