To make it clear, I do not recommend the lure for jetty fishing, it's too expensive and does not cast well (that's not what it is made for). I was just hyped up to see it was at all possible.
more non jetty lure jetty experiments videos! for sure! haha or also take it out on the bote but uhhhh maybe get ready for a massive grouper or something if you do a vid like that jigging deep with it like I imagine it was made for originally.
We were catching undersized snapper on 16/O circle hooks. Those large spoons used to be very popular tarpon fishing in the PA North Surf in the fall run.
I truly love how excited you get when u hook into something that is exactly how I react u hate anglers who act like they are too professional to give a reaction when they get a hit
Crazy to see how these reds will hit those monster lures. To me, it’s as if the 3oz spoon is like a finger mullet, and the footlong is like a horse mullet or ladyfish. Great content as always!
A huge hello from Europe here in the Coast of Spain! Watched you working the big spoon, and I can tell you that where my brother lives ( on the south of Spain, where the Mediterranean lines up with the Atlantic just left of Portugal the sea bass and Corvina are huge!!! I'm 120% sure dude that this huge spoon would rip it up there!! Been living out here in Spain for the past 4 years now, coming from California where we lived basically our entire life. As soon as I saw your video I had to share it with my brother! He'll love this huge spoon, his fishing 🎣 experience is rather extensive, he can basically out fish most pros out there... In this very moment and time with the cold creeping in, huge sea bass and Corvina tend to hug the ports. Looking for easy meals... We are talking fish that measure larger than my entire leg🦵 and I'm 5' 11"!!! Thx for sharing the experience with that huge spoon!!
Really been binge watching your videos for the last 2 days now. Really liking the content and the vibes you put into it especially with the music. Hope you never give it up I can see this channel taking off. Really enjoy fishing and learning new things when I’m not fishing. Tight lines
As a musky angler, what,s crazy when you begin fishing is the size of the lures. I,ve been catching 20-22in. muskies on 9-10in. baits. Those fishes will sometimes eat way bigger than we expect !
Wow, I would've never thought that monster spoon would work, but, proved wrong. One of the best lure fishing videos I've ever seen, great great great video, from El Paso Texas, see ya.
Down here in SWFL the bull reds can be seen chasing and eating speckled trout.... Makes sense that they like that spoon size. Regarding the cost, you should just make your own giant spoons! Very simple lure. I am sure you can find a sheet of metal and press or hammer it into shape, drill 2 holes, and you're almost done. You could make a dozen of them from a sheet of metal in a single afternoon.
@@evilpanther990 You better believe it! Next time you catch a sand trout (unregulated) try using it as a bait for bull reds. You will be amazed. ...Ever been to Sanibel pier around Christmas time at 1am when it is loaded up with teenagers fishing? Ever wonder how they all get such huge redfish for their social media photos? Their secret bait late at night when no one is paying attention are speckled trout. When they have the green light under the pier you can even see the reds chasing trout. We can't legally use one game fish to catch another game fish, but you better believe it.... Speckled trout makes great bull red bait.
@@Dec1duousTree good info man! But I don’t think sanibel pier exists anymore rn because of Ian but I’ll keep the sand perch in mind next time I’m on the beach
@@evilpanther990 No sir, it has not been repaired yet, lol. But I have been out throwing a lure in the Sanibel area recently, and thank god, the redfish are everywhere chasing mullet right now. I caught 4 solid ones yesterday on a bucktail and top water.
I have fished a light at night on the Port A ship channel. When the bull reds come in I toss out live pin fish on a bobber. They eat them whole. I once tried a 12" sand trout and the red swallowed the whole sand trout. Fun times! I always love your vids keep it up.
Wow man, I was today years old when I found out an average sized redfish will hit a foot long spoon...thanks for posting another awesome video!!!!....👍🏽
Always enjoying watching your videos from Rota Spain.. I miss fishing in corpus that's my hometown. Hopefully one day I can go back and enjoy fishing the jetties.. Keep safe on them jetty rocks.
Awesome Coop 👌 . I'm glad you provided the honest feedback about these big spoons. I was thinking about using them in the surf, but since don't cast well, that would be a challenge in the surf and against the south wind. Keep them coming brother 💯 🙏
I've been using Nichols flutter spoons for several years here in South Texas. The 5" pulls amazingly shallow, even on the flats. I can keep my rod tip high and pull it in 18" of water or less. They have several sizes, but I mostly use the 5". Reds love it and it can be fluttered around the jetties for just about anything including giant specks. I'll have to try the Tony Maja. The only downside I see is the weight if you are doing cast and retrieve. Man, just throwing the 1oz Nichols 500 times in a day will wear you out.
I know this is an old thread, but wanted to suggest adding a swivel between the hook and spoon and then a set of assist hooks up top. The swivel prevents the fish from gaining leverage and pulling the hook, especially on really large lures.
Flutter spoons are deadly on the Striped bass and Bluefsh in the CT/NY/Nj area. Usually we drift with them, dropping to the bottom and making big slow swings and letting them flutter back down
I use those spoons as well, but I’ve learned not to us the stock hooks. They aren’t very sharp so you’ll lose many more fish. You need to power set the hook like you do with tarpons to sink in the barbs or switch to sharper hooks.
Haha, Coop, that was awesome! Yr. the only guy who would try something that crazy & the fact it worked, makes it even better/crazier. I love yr. channel bc. of yr. upbeat personality & yr. unreal talent & enthusiasm. Keep it up & we will keep watcinng.
As a kid in the 1950s, fishing in small California lakes for largemouth bass, I found out that fish no larger than the lure attacked articulated plugs. At first I was amazed, then I realized they just reacted to the movements of the lures. Primal instinct is why lures work.
@@stargazerl2958 I caught two largies out of this little pond with a bare treble hook, I was trying to snag a carp on two separate occasions and like halfway thru my retrieve after missing the carp they just inhaled it both times
Lmao, bro this was an Exciting video But I’m sure not as exciting you had using that enormous spoon!!😂 When I saw the spoon in the beginning I knew something was eat it, awesomeness great video Thresher.
It'll help your hook-up ratio if you attach a swivel to the top split ring and attach a (like 2/0) treble hook to that. You can also use those single/tandem jig assist hooks that come with a short leader. Increasing the size of the treble at the bottom can help with hook-ups as well. As for casting distance, I can't help you. I'm 1000 miles from the nearest ocean. But, the extra hardware will give it a tiny bit more weight. 🤷♂️
Just got back from a fishing trip in Baja Mexico. We were using Salas and Tady surface irons that were about the same size. Can’t wait to try them on the east cut or south padre island jetties
So so cool! Be that way end of Dec early jan! And can’t wait! Catfish and carp have been it, ready for sole salt. Definitely doing the research before going that way. Love all your vids.
I fish those same size flutter spoons on pickwick for largemouth in the summer I’ve always thought of trying to get a king or bull red on them from the jetty they just don’t don’t throw very well and are prone to losing fish bc of how big the bait is the fish will pull the hook when they shake their heads enough
Hello happy fishing 🎣 Friday night I'm new to your fishing channel I love and enjoy pier fishing 🎣 I love using spoons and yoyo jigs for Pier fishing I be caching halibut fish 👍🏼
Fish don’t want to waste energy looking for a meal. They see it as a wounded fish and worth the energy to fill up all at once. They get less selective. Nice vid. Sorry about the $50 lol.
Got ya covered. Go to the junkyard and buy one of the new Stainless Steel bumpers for trucks and make your own lures. $100 bumper or less (bent up) and a scroll saw and you can make maybe 50-75 of those spoons. Little hammerin' and drillin' you got it!
Dude, that spoon is insane. I can’t believe you where actually catching fish on it, should tie that lure up to a shark/off shore rood and troll it. Would be surprising to see what kind of fish will hit it
As you proved, we always underestimate the size of bait fish that predators eat. Here in South Africa we like to use a live mullet approximately 9inches in length, but I have used a 1 foot live mackerel on our fish with great sucess
Awesome video as usual, man. I'd like to see you try one of those big 12" paddletail shads that are meant for trolling/dredge. I would try it myself but I don't live near any ocean 😪
Skinner was vertical jigging from a boat, that style of lure is not meant for casting, i never seen people surfcast with these. Also if u think about adult bunker or mullet those redfish could easily swallow them whole. Nice Reds by the way
Dude you can go to alot of stores and buy a large metal spoon . For line making soup. Do alittle custom shaping on a grinder then put it on a buffing wheel to polis up
Ahahah I almost commented years ago to try our flutter spoons. One of my favorites for the fall run for bass here in NJ. The bait is designed for falling action so it’s cool to see fish eating it on the retrieve
