Thanks for the great video, I'm in Canada and I have a Silverrusto crew cab 1500. same problem, fuel lines leaking.
Thanks for the run trough. I'm also in MN and at least one of my strap bolts is shot and expect the bed bolts to spin and spin. So I might have to drop the tank or bite the bullet and let a shop deal with it.
If yours is an extended cab like mine, you could always cut the hole in bed and access it from the top. Save yourself $900 . I would put a welding blanket over top of tank if using a cutoff to cut the bed. Or just score it with a cutoff or drill a hole and use a jigsaw with short blade .
Do you recall where you got those clip nuts from? I can only find doorman that look similar. In Michigan doing my girls 08 Sierra and having every problem you had lol. Lock ring is rust welded on as well, sprayed it with some penetrating fluid and going to let it sit but I might have to cut it off as well...
I got my parts from Rockauto as it was the cheapest. Had to buy new lines as the fuel pump outlets broke off. I believe the clip nuts are gm # 11516770 and rock auto has them for $4.11 . But just call a dealer and see what the gm # is then input that in the Rockauto search box to get your correct one for your vehicle. If you don't have enough stuff to buy to make shipping affordable , then EBay or dealer. Dorman stuff was thin and would rust out quick , unless they changed it from when I did it. Thanks for watching
I just tried the bed tilt, snapped 3 bolts. once up I couldnt get the pressure line off, ended up dropping the tank anyway. dropping the tank wasnt that bad but since I had the bed up it made for alot of extra work. in order to bolt the bed back down I haad to plasma cut access holes so I could nut n bolt it. Im across the river and yes winter guarantees we have a ton of rust. if i need to do this again I will be cutting it out since my box rails are rusted through underneath anyway
Living in the winter states is fun huh? lol. Now with the access hole , I can probably switch the fuel pump out in 15 min , as I bought a cheap chinese one and bought another for a spare. I haven't used the spare yet but the 1st pump , the pressure switch for tank went out so put my engine light on as its saying a problem with evap . Nothing big as you live with it . Just make sure to put welding blanket over top of tank before cutting access hole to prevent accidental cut of lines. Thanks for watching
Hey Jason, thanks for the video man. Do you have the measurements in inches on the truck bed for the access hole? The distance from the front of the bed & side to side? I’m getting ready to do a pump on a 2008 Sierra. Thanks either way.
It depends on if you have an ext cab, quad cab or regular cab. Mine is a Ext cab with the 6.6 box so if yours is that configuration, I can quickly measure it.
@@JasonRUclips thanks so much! Mine is the exact same, extended cab with the 6.6 foot bed. It’s even black like yours too.
@@sonicmouth from drivers side of box the measurements are 17"-27" . From front of box is 7 1/2" x 17" . That is measured from inside and bottom of box
@@JasonRUclips thanks, that’s a huge help!
@@JasonRUclips I cut an access in my dad's 2000 silverado now I'm doing my 07 NBS extended cab 6.6 bed thanks for the measurements. Job will be way easy now. Thanks again!!!
How are you liking your lift I’m in the same shape as you won’t ever pick up anything more than a half ton truck. But I’m not spending 4,000 on a new one. Would you buy again?
I would buy a Chinese 2 post again. I have used it to unload upright air compressors from the bed of my truck , lifted up trailers to repack bearings and many other things. Hook some straps on arms and you have an overhead lift. I would recommended going a little wider with the posts , because where the posts sit , you have like 12 inches to get in and out . I show that in my chinese lift video. I have been pulling closer to passenger side arms and that gives me an extra 5-8 inches to get in ( Door opens in curve radius pattern so 3 inches closer to post actually is more when opening door) Make sure you look at the Bend Pak specs (arm thickness, carriage thickness, post thickness, etc.. ) and match it up to a China lift . Some chinese lifts say 10k but looking at steel thickness , is less then comparable Bend Pak or Rotary lifts. Almost every brand is made in china , just compare specs. Thanks for watching
My 2011 is a rust bucket. How can i cut access panel without making sparks so i don't have to drop tank
Just use a recip saw with a short blade or a jigsaw. I would throw a blanket over top of fuel tank . Start by drilling a hole to get blade started.
I'm changing one over here in Michigan and everything coming out of the fuel pump is rusted through. The fuel pump is rusted on tight and not moving.
Yup, winter weather with salt! You saw how I had to cut it out with a grinder. I never had that much trouble with other cars , only this gm truck.
Dont know if anyone gives a damn but if you are stoned like me during the covid times then you can watch pretty much all of the new series on InstaFlixxer. Been watching with my brother for the last weeks =)
@Damian Melvin definitely, been watching on Instaflixxer for months myself =)
Poor guy having to deal with rust on a crazy level
Gotta love Minnesota Roads with tons of salt !
How many miles on that truck? My 2012 just started to smell like fuel today. It’s got 71k on it. Upstate NY. I watched another video on this and the guy replaced it with a Delphi pump because the top is all stainless. Crap design. This will be my last GM (#4) think I’ll give Toyota a try.
This has about 143K on it, so the motor , tranny and everything are engineered good . The only problem is body rusts out and you got a good running vehicle that leaves pieces on the road! I guess if you live in a state that doesn't see snow and salt use, these would be great. Seems foreign manufacturers have figured out how to build cars that don't rust out, too bad GM can't figure that out
@@JasonRUclips yes indeed, my 97 GMC Sierra still is rust-free, remember back when they used to dip the bodies in aluminized coating, Hell I see my father‘s old 95 still roaming around and just the cab corners are rusted out. I just got a quote from a local dealership of $2000 to do this job, I think I’ll just do it myself it’s only a $250 pump through Delphi
@@paulb9376 Keep in mind that the quick fuel line disconnects may be rusted onto the fuel pump outlet ends, then they might break off , like mine did. Then you would have to buy new lines , they are cheap, but may take a few days if you don't get them from a dealership. I ordered mine from RockAuto so had to wait for shipping.
I own a Sierra I took care of it. It still fucken rusted out
Ya its a bad design but still some toyotas look great in Minnesota even though they are 15 years old. Too bad they cant make sierra body panels like they do for mitsubishi or saturn out of plastic. Probably cheaper then aluminum but then they couldn't sell you a new truck every 7 years if it looks good. Thanks for watching
Im to the point of cutting the bed..lol in the rustbelt and dropping the tank in the driveway sucks.
The easiest and fastest way in the rustbelt states. Rust sucks
What a nightmare!!!
