Artur Rubinstein...proof that you don't have to throw yourself all over the stage to be a great pianist.

The Rubenstein sonority! No other pianist can create such a beautiful sound.

I had the privilege of hearing him perform Beethoven's Emperor Concerto in 1971 in Los Angeles. One of the greatest pianists of the 20th century and an extraordinary person.

I am enchanted by this old Gentlemen! What a blessing for him, that he was still able to play like this in this high age!

Amazing performance by a 86 year old !! A strong testimonial that our musical capacity lasts a lifelong. Same with the ability of our fingers. And the intelligence that works behind the two. Seeing his face while he plays always make me wonder... what are the gears that are turning inside that brain...

Heard him 45 years ago or so....he was supreme? Close second to Horowitz; what a privilege and pleasure to have heard both of them live.....

So, you saw him in 1975, two years after this recording (he would have been 88 at then, as he was already 86 during this above performance-and ye, he was still going incredibly despite the old age, 🙏🏻)…
What a unique chance to meet such an extraordinary fellow human! ❤…

Rubinstein was 86 years old when this recording was made. Same quality playing as when he was in his prime time, if not better. That is truly remarkable.
(I corrected an earlier mistake about Mtro. Rubinstein's age :)

Rubinstein was born in January 1887. So, wasn't he 86 years old in 1973? Nonetheless, he kept playing impeccably beyond his 88.

Please don't mind but I don't think he's at his best here. Maybe it's the way it's recorded but it sounds pretty unexpressive to me, but still much better than horowitz in his not so good recordings. I'm sorry. Still love them both though.
