I had the privilege of hearing him perform Beethoven's Emperor Concerto in 1971 in Los Angeles. One of the greatest pianists of the 20th century and an extraordinary person.
Amazing performance by a 86 year old !! A strong testimonial that our musical capacity lasts a lifelong. Same with the ability of our fingers. And the intelligence that works behind the two. Seeing his face while he plays always make me wonder... what are the gears that are turning inside that brain...
So, you saw him in 1975, two years after this recording (he would have been 88 at then, as he was already 86 during this above performance-and ye, he was still going incredibly despite the old age, 🙏🏻)… What a unique chance to meet such an extraordinary fellow human! ❤…
Rubinstein was 86 years old when this recording was made. Same quality playing as when he was in his prime time, if not better. That is truly remarkable. (I corrected an earlier mistake about Mtro. Rubinstein's age :)
FRANZ SCHUBERT 00:00:29 Impromptu in A flat major, D899 (Op. 90) No.4 - Allegretto JOHANNES BRAHMS 00:07:47 Intermezzo in B flat minor, Op. 117 No.2 - Andante non troppo e con molto espressione FRÉDÉRIC CHOPIN 00:13:00 Scherzo No.2 in B flat minor, Op. 31 - Presto
Please don't mind but I don't think he's at his best here. Maybe it's the way it's recorded but it sounds pretty unexpressive to me, but still much better than horowitz in his not so good recordings. I'm sorry. Still love them both though.

I am enchanted by this old Gentlemen! What a blessing for him, that he was still able to play like this in this high age!
Sublime . . . Angelic . . . Beauty . . . Rubinstein . . . As Vibrant Today as the Day He Performed It - 50+ years ago.

Artur Rubinstein...proof that you don't have to throw yourself all over the stage to be a great pianist.
The Rubenstein sonority! No other pianist can create such a beautiful sound.
Wow! Out of this world - outstanding in every way. Pianist and composer perfection. Such a delight. Thank you . Thank you.

How beautiful and elegant is that Schubert piece.
One of my favourites. In my feeling Schubert, had he lived longer, would be the only other one to sit up there with bach and mozart. What a loss.
@@LeaderOfTheRedNinjas Chopin is my favorite
i think he plays it badly.

Это человек не от мира сего!! Он послан небесами всем нам грешным человечищам!!!Моему восхищению нет предела!!!
Forever exceptional.
My fav pianist
Un verdadero placer escucharle!!!!!!!
Heard him 45 years ago or so....he was supreme? Close second to Horowitz; what a privilege and pleasure to have heard both of them live.....
You seen them when they were alive???????????
If we are going to compare, I'll take Rubinstein over Horowitz, easily.

Two gifts to you! Nelson Freire was (is) a great Pianist too🎹🎼🎶🎶🎶!

Total and complete command of the music - technical and artistic. Timeless.

브라보! 루빈슈타인 선생님 영상을 볼 수 있어 감사드립니다.
When I listen, I say to myself, now I understand.
What a noble countenance

and plus he was almost blind by then ...incredible.
Rubinstein was born in January 1887. So, wasn't he 86 years old in 1973? Nonetheless, he kept playing impeccably beyond his 88.
@@Ernesto7608 Oooops! Thanks for noticing that! I made the due correction in my comment. Math is not my strongest ability :(
Rubinstein inmortal.
Wonderful! Thanks for posting!
Musically No one ever can beat Rubinstein.
Yeah tell Horowitz this
@@spfqr4977 lol Rachmaninoff beats both
No need to compare, music is not about competitions.
He's from Olympus !
The first and still unsurpassed is Lipatti. Rubinstein is the second. Gilels and young Gould go after them.

Supreme interpreter of Chopin, Schubert, Schumann, and any moderns that he played. Close second to no one. It is all in the phrasing.
EL MEJOR PIANISTA Y MÁS ARTISTA DE TODOS LOS TIEMPOS.

There is a slight desynchonization (lag) netween picture and the music, which makes it painful to watch . Better listen only !

You should really fight that bogus claim you have on your video.
That is quite literally the most ridiculous thing I’ve seen all year.
I like Rubinstein but the Chopin is very sloppy
Sound BADLY out of synch!
