- After last year's Christmas market was canceled, we were so excited to finally get to visit the Weihnachtsmarkt here in Leipzig! The second oldest Christmas market in Germany, it takes over most of the city center and offers delicious food and drinks, shopping, rides, and an incredible way to enjoy the holiday season!

About us: Just over one year ago, after a long time of hoping, dreaming, and planning, we sold or gave away almost everything we owned and left the United States to begin our journey with four children as an expat family. We moved to Leipzig, Germany, a beautiful city in the state of Saxony. This is our story.

We have really loved what we've experienced so far at the Christmas market here in Leipzig! I have two questions for you - What is your favorite thing to do or eat at the market? And what Christmas market in Germany is your favorite? Let us know in the comments! 👇
Hey, thanks from another American expat in Leipzig! After missing the Christmas market during Covid, and missing my heimat L.A. for 3 years, I spent the winter in Los Angeles and missed the market again! So at least I got to see it thanks to you! I'm here for sure this year!
Still only half of the people, that used to be there here and in my parents town, but always helpful to get in christmas mood.
If this is only half the people, I'm glad to be experiencing it now! I can't imagine double the number of people there. I guess that makes sense why we haven't had to wait in very many lines for food, drinks, or rides!
The carousel you showed at the end of the video is very special to the people of Leipzig, when it burned down 2009 due too a electric problem many people donted money for the repaires if I remember correctly. The original carousel was around 100 years old and the new one was builted to look like the original.
After a year without the Christmas markets, families and tourists from all over the world in Germany, do feel glad to be part of the visiting crowd once again.
It's so awesome to finally experience. And we're thankful we live here and can go back over and over again! 👍
@@OnwardMJ Absolutely! It's an awesome feeling to walk among the people and be part of the moment. Happy Holidays to you and your family.
What a beautiful video! You are right, Christmas markets are magical! I have never been to the one in Leipzig, but I truly miss Christmas markets since we moved to the US. Looking forward to the upcoming Chrismas market videos and learning what you like to eat and drink at the markets. My favorite thing to eat is Reibekuchen 🙂
Thanks! We were so excited to be able to enjoy them this year. I'm not sure I've seen Reibekuchen there, but there is so much food it's hard to find everything! More videos soon!
🎄Merry Christmas🎄
Merry Christmas to you as well!
From 1:15 the beautiful Christmas carol was processed into “Leipziger Allerlei”. 😁
Incidentally, the original of "Silent Night" is in German ("Stille Nacht") and comes from Austria.
It premiered on December 24, 1818.
I don't think I've heard Leipziger Allerlei before...🤔 It is a beautiful song, but I love my lofi beats so I had to use the remix! 😁
@@OnwardMJ Leipziger Allerlei is a dish:
Leipziger Allerlei is a regional German vegetable dish that may be served as a main or side course. It is named after the city of Leipzig and consists of a mixture of various vegetables such as young peas, carrots, green beans, asparagus heads, morels, and celery. Cauliflower and kohlrabi are often added; occasionally onions are used too. There are numerous variations to the basic recipe.
Abo, weil Leipziger zusammen halten 😁
Danke!
Thomanerchor.
Love it!
Thanks for sharing! looking forward to the next chapters!
Thanks for watching! We're looking forward to experiencing more and sharing it with you! 😀
Great, just discovered your new video, 53 minutes ago uploaded!
Hope you have a nice Christmas time in Germany! ;)
Glad you found it, thanks for watching! Merry Christmas to you! 😄
Must eat: Kräppelchen (Schmalzkuchen), pillow-shaped yeast donut bites with powdered sugar, but ONLY from "Schmalzbäckerei Fischer" on Reichsstraße (next to Riquet Café, Steigenberger Hotel and the big historical 2-story carroussel), NOT from "Schmalzbäckerei Sehnig" (e.g. Augustusplatz, main station). The latter seem to not use a properly raised yeast dough, at least the texture is somehow dry and "floury". Fischer has been around since I can remember as a kid. And NEVER to be eaten cold, which means there HAS to be a line, at least a small one, as they taste best hot and sizzling. Otherwise it is just...well... dough. ;) Don't mind if the line is one block long, rather send someone to get Glühwein to drink while waiting in the line.
Thanks for the tip, I'll put that on my list (and in the food video 😉). And there's no such thing as a long line when you have Glühwein in your hand. It's just a nice place to hang out with other people! 😄
@@OnwardMJ Agreed! What about your oldest daughter, at what age would you allow her to try beer and Glühwein (legally at age of 14)? You don't have to answer if it is a too personal question...
@@joachimschwabe3301 She's older than that now and she is allowed to try beer and Glühwein (and wine). I think it's good for kids to be able to taste and experience those things with their family as opposed to sneaking out and doing it irresponsibly (which is often the case in the US).
This was my first ever Christmas Marked experience. It did not disappoint!
Awesome! It really is amazing!
Schönen Advent euch 🕯🎄
Danke, dir auch! 🎁🎅❄️
They used to be nice with the white snow around. Nowadays, the only true Christmas markets are in Scandinavia.
Hmm... What is a "true" christmas market? I mean as long as you have a good time with your loved ones it can be everywhere 🙏🏻 love from Germany 🇩🇪
@@jeanclaudevomdeich4234 One with snow, a winter atmosphere.
We got lucky and were able to experience the market with snow! While it's amazing either way, the snow does make it magical.
How's your kids German?
Much better than mine, I have to say! They are in the German schools and that helped them learn really quickly. My oldest likes to correct my German as often as she can!
not going i have to save money and with noone to go and all the tourists its just stress for me
but i hope u enjoy it
Unfortunately, it is not cheap (although not as expensive as I would have imagined). But if you're not a fan of crowds, it is definitely not the place to be.
@@OnwardMJ Yes, the prices this year are insane.
@@kingofshit303 We heard that they are something like 30% higher than the last market, but honestly, the prices seem decent to me. If you ever go to a festival in the States, the prices for food and drinks are at least double what they are here...
The music is cruel... and doesn't really fit the good image material.
Lofi in general and lofi remixes will certainly not be everyone's preference, but I enjoy it. Music can be tricky on RUclips - everyone has their own tastes. But thank you for the compliment on the visuals even if you didn't like the music!
Unfortunately it is no longer as beautiful as it used to be
Really nice and heartwarming video! But - this deforming version of "Stille Nacht" is simply awful for my ears, sorry ...
Thanks for watching! I know lofi music and especially lofi remixes of Christmas songs isn't for everyone - sorry! But I hope you enjoyed it anyway...👍
