    I think it’s absolutely perfect that you are human. I’d never be able to relate to you if you weren’t. I thank you for your courage and truth. I’m so grateful to you and BLE.

      When I think about the 12 step 'perfection model' for food addicts, I can hardly breathe. However, I am grateful that it is the answer for many. But for me, I may need to somehow move toward a more compassionate approach. Thus far beating up on myself in order to create changes in my food choices hasn't worked. The cutting shame of confessing food failures to another person hasn't worked. So, for now I am focused on celebrating small changes and working to connect with caring people. Your imagery about diverting a stream of water and creating a new path in my brain was helpful.
      Thanks for your honesty, for being real and for this vlog Susan.

    I thank God you've shared BLE with us the way you have and that perfection isn't required. In all things, progress over perfection, is a much finer and more attainable goal. I'd have never found success in a program that punished for a slip; to be more accurate, I'd have never stuck with a program like that. Thank you Susan.

    👏👏👏 Bravo! Absolutely BRILLIANTLY articulated. I can completely relate from my own experience in a 12 step food program and how the extrinsic reward system worked for me then but impacted in other negative ways in my life/relationships. I am so VERY grateful to you Susan and your ongoing work with BLE, as it has helped me to develop my own strong intrinsic motivation. Thank you for your combination of science and human compassion ❤️‍🩹🙏💝

    I love listening to you. I am doing BLE after the 14day challenge but I IF, eating two meals a day. I can say without a lie that I have no cravings and a grumbly tummy makes me feel powerful and in control. I'm now at 23 days and feel strong and in control of my life. Thank you.

    Thank you for making the distinction between BLE and FA. I’m in FA, but I love the way you explain addiction and the science behind eating. FA gives me freedom from addictive thoughts, but BLE gives me the rationale for not going back to my old life in the food.

    I am a newbie waiting for my BLE Book and Cookbook to arrive, but as a person who scored a 10 on the quiz, I am finally feeling like I can believe in something that can be a long term solution to all the struggles with food and sugar addiction. Thank you so much for your authenticity and honesty. I am excited to soon be able to show off some results from committing to BLE.

    You wear your humanity well. There are many “perfect” folks in recovery land but they weren’t given the marching orders. You were. Our ultimate provided a human to shine light on living free AND being an addict. It’s perfect.

    Your videos are giving me so much hope and so much strength and so much motivation to act and go through with this. You really saved my life. I have been trapped in food addiction for decades and I had lost hope. Now I am on my journey....doing great.....feeling free and strong and hopefull and self-assured.     I started BLE Jan 1st this year. I never knew that sugar was acting like a drug in my brain and after 14 days I had lost 14 pounds and my mind was losing a fog that I’d been in for years and didn’t know it.
    It was so successful that I slipped. It’s scary getting clear after years of your brain being under an influence. I’m back on track now.
    This vlog caught my eye because I felt the brain healing and I started slipping but I really want the healing back. I don’t like the fog from sugar and flour, at times I felt like I was losing my mind. Now I know it’s from years of abuse from sugar. Thank you.

    I've been in a 12 step program for 12 years. Thankful to the fellowship that allows as to be loved through a slip. Progress not perfection was something I had no idea about.
    I suffer from the make it look pretty on the outside. As someone who grew up in Orange County.. The popular saying was, "You can't be too rich, too tan, or too thin".
    I've come to realize that I've had some disordered eating that came from my Mother's need to look perfect. I was the too skinny girl who was teased everyday. Then I became the fat older woman because your invisible. It feels safe to hide. So it seems I've got some serious work to do.

    I am so happy that you addressed this issue! The nugget of understanding here is explained so well by your analogy of the riverbeds. That's something I'll be able to keep hold of throughout my journey, in this my second year of BLE. It allows me to realize the times in the past that, after a period of months in the "weight-loss program du jour" I relaxed - and the dam broke. It makes me also realize that now is no different, that forever is for real - but only one day at a time. And if this dam is broken, re-zooming is my only option. Thank you, Susan.

    The riverbed neurology statement made so much sense. It's like going into a type of drug rehab where you stop the old thought eating pattern (comfortable feelings) to new (uncomforatable) at first.

    Thanks for your Vlog and your honesty. I have heard the riverbed analogy before and it is really helpful, more than ‚healt brain‘.
    I also liked your thoughts on extrinsic and intrinsic following of rules. For me , a lot of times, BLE is extrinsic, although you so often said, we have to own the programme, you are not the BLE police. I have stopped smoking on the 17.3 1985 and I never had another cigarette, because I knew if I ever start again, I would stop believing in myself and would never be able to long term stop smoking. So this was truly intrinsic. I find this much harder in eating, but it is my goal that I follow BLE intrinsically. Many thanks, Sue!

    The journey is a growth path, and there is no room for perfection during growth, I love that you mention slippery slope, because when we get off track of what we want, in reflection, I have found it is the small incremental steps off path that end up with me getting lost. Beautiful vlog.

    Hi SPT I have to say I love love love the way you are not perfect! I wish more people in this world were as humble, honest and able to show their vulnerability without worrying what others thought! Yes you might care about “status” as you say but it’s not stopping you from ‘opening your kimono’ and baring all. So thank you for being you and inspiring us all to be real living a BLE life as we all try to keep that water flowing brightly in our new river beds 😘

    SUSAN! This was one of the my most favorite vlogs from you of all time. It was real and honest and I appreciate it. For years *AND I MEAN YEARS SINCE I HAVE FOLLOWED YOU SINCE 2015!** I was pissed off at you. I thought you stole the food addiction program, stole the rules, stole everything and then went on to make your millions from it. I have taken 3 bootcamps from you. 3!!! and the only thing that helped me was joining the same food program you were in. I left the program because I moved to an area where it wasn't located and then I gained all my weight back then some. (During the move I also suffered from severe PPD and a I have a disabled child so there's that... but... I digress.) This is the first time in a long time that I have seen you be so real and say that you felt happy with the social status that you carried in FA and that might have caused you to not break in 11 years. I care about my social status too, and I NEVER even got to 90 days! I had break after break after break. I did get down to my ideal weight and I did BLE throughout a pregnancy, by the way, so I feel like I do have some merit and I'm not a Joe Shmoe on the street. I did BLE and I did FA.
    This time that you suggested that we still could possibly incorporate these other WOE into our plans as long as we did our other tools made me feel like you're normal again. I don't buy into the "food addict" thing. I buy into the idea that we all just have bad habits. I think we can change our habits one day at a time. I think that for me, the FA program brought my Type A for trading food addiction for the Perfect Person addiction. It is such a good feeling to know that you aren't perfect now. I just wonder --- if you were to gain all your weight back, would that impact your vision of yourself? And would that throw you in a sinkhole? Cause I gained a good 60 pounds and I feel like everyone is over here judging me and calling me fat behind my back.

    It seems to me it would be best to have a lot of leadership composed of people that have messed up, to varying degrees but are successful in the sense that they are making progress, and results are improving over time. they fall off the horse less than they did, and to less of a severity.

    What about honey as a sweetener?

      Hi Thomas! Anything that is added to food to make it taste sweeter should be avoided, including honey, agave, maple syrup, molasses, and any other kind of sweetener. They are loaded with fructose and cause a spike in insulin levels and a rush of dopamine in the nucleus accumbens. They also trigger the sweet taste buds that link to the addictive centers in the brain. We hope this helps. 🧡

    I think her question even more in depth is if the brain truly heals then those riverbeds would be healed. Why does that not happen? Can it happen? Can someone truly be healed?
