@DeeBeeGeek yeah, essentially ALL of the primarch's, with the exception of Vulkan of the salamanders, are all around 9-10 feet tall on average. Horus in the trailer here, is also juiced to the gills with Chaos/warp energy, making him even bigger
@@parkermorris3151 Isn't Alpharius and Omegon short Bois? That's what I was told when I asked my friends back in the day about how the Marines of the Alpha Legion could pretend to be them.
The two missing Primarchs or Legions has no real explanation, they're simply there so people can create their own Legion/Chapter and have it be technically canon. The in-canon explanation though is that the two missing Primarchs and Legions were expunged from existence for doing something so awful their entire existence was forgotten, and that's literally all we have in canon lol
There is a bit more to it than that (but not much) and it's not clear that they did (or at least both did) something awful either. A few little extras: - They are known as the Forgotten and the Purged. - The Space Wolves are implied to have been involved in the dissolution of both legions - the Space Wolves have a reputation as the Emperor's executioners. - It's implied they were lost fighting an advanced Xenos race known as the Rangda (see Rangdan Xenocides).
The Your Dudes angle to the missing legions was not their original purpose, nor is it currently. While there was a time where GW basically said "sure you can homebrew them if you want", the original designers came up with the idea simply as some lost history, because ten millennia is a long-ass time. And in the current era the setting and even the legions themselves have been given enough context that making your own head canons no longer works.
I forgot which book it was Pre-Heresy, but Sanguinius admitted to Horus that one of the reasons why he was so obsessed in looking for the cure for the Red Thirst was because he was afraid that he and his Legion would become like the missing Primarchs. So a malfunctioning gene-seed was also a theory of why the two had been either killed or erased.
@@wymarsane7305 Though you can still fanfic your way into making a new legion if you want, nobody will stop you from painting your Astartes what you want and then giving they some unique lore.
The motive is simple: he was lied to and corrupted by Chaos. Yes, the Emperor kept the nature of the warp and chaos from them, because he thought no belief = no power for the chaos gods. So chaos used that to manipulate Horus, basically saying "if he lied about that, what else may he have lied about?" and then convincing him that he is secretly super evil and that only the Gods are worthy to be served. Most chaos marines stilll believe it.
Also creating the narrative that Big E making him the Warmaster and in charge of all the strategic elements of the great crusade was essentially giving Horus the finger and stealing the glory of battle from him, and alienating him from the other legions.
@@matsudoambition2509this. he was lied to by being shown the truth. He had a vision of the imperium today, where the galaxy is horrible, big E is worshipped as a god, and Horus is utterly forgotten. In his attempt to to keep this dark future from happening Horus accidentally caused it to be so.
@@QuayNemSorr basically, though it needs to be noted that Alpharius’ special power is fading. Not like Corax, he’s visible, but unrenarkable, not drawing attention
The Earth is called Terra because it's the formal latin name of Earth. Like in real life. Today. Same with the moon, it's formal latin name is Luna. Course this is because it's derived from the original Latin, so many Latin based languages refer to them by those names as well.
@@vadman5537well yeah cause luna is Latin and the places that still call the moon luna are generally romance language/descended from Latin, like Spanish, Italian etc...
Its the latin names for earth and moon... but also Terra is Earth in my language in Portuguese... so for me Terra, is Terra ( earth) as i ever known i figure is the same in Spanish
Those giant machines are Titans. You may be remembering Knights from Bricky’s videos. Knights are a lot smaller- operated by a single person. Titans are typically operated by a crew of many people and are the largest engines of war fielded by the Imperium on the battlefield.
Many, me included, think that what he said was a coverup for the real reason of banning religion (as it was stated that, while chaos can feed off religion, it mostly feeds from emotions, but religion is also stated multiple times that it's used as the biggest gate to reality by chaos to have a foothold on a world, and corrupt people around, a single corrupt or possessed citizen will corrupt others and do a ritual to summon Cthulhu like daemons and others.) Why the coverup? Simple chaos corruption again, people get crazy or corrupted when they simply witness their symbols or hear strange noises, that's why it's a secret even to primarchs.
Why did Horus turn traitor? He didn't just decide to turn traitor on his own. There was an incident where a traitor astartes by the name of Erebus (the guy at 12:33, fuck Erebus) wacked him with some corruption and caused him to go mad (mentioned at 12:36). After the fact he gave a few justifications for his treachery. "Stole power from the gods." - prior to the creation of the primarchs, the Emperor visited a planet named Molech (same as 14:06). This planet had a permanent portal into the warp. He entered the warp and, whilst from the outside he was only there a short while, it is implied for the Emperor he was in there for years. It's not clear what the Emperor did inside, but it is implied that he 'stole' something from the chaos gods, and that whatever he stole was necessary for the creation of the primarchs. You wondered why Horus was so much bigger than an astartes; it is likely that whatever the Emperor stole on Molech is the reason why. "Lied to your sons." - the Emperor didn't tell the primarchs about the chaos gods, indeed he went out of his way to censor all information about the warp. It is not clear what the Emperor planned here or why he felt the need for such secrecy. It's possible that he thought that if they knew about the chaos gods, they would immediately be corrupted. The nature of the primarchs as some sort of warp creatures was also something he didn't want them to be aware of before they were ready. Fuck Erebus.
12:17 and 12:30 are trailers from Total War: Warhammer, which is about the fantasy side. The trailers for that game are almost all S-Tier (edit: the game is also S-Tier), and theres a ton of em. They're seperate universes but with a basic understanding of 40k you can easily jump in. A fantasy tangent sometime down the road would be awesome to see.
Agreed, but specifically the faction trailers for the 4 chaos god factions could basically be 40k material as well (the same gods and their daemons exist in both settings)
that trailer was for the second edition of the horus heresy tabletop. the launch trailers for 9th and 10th edition 40k the main game, and for the recent Age of Sigmar edition, the fantasy setting are also of similar quality
i would first suggest Adeptus Ridiculous, and then Isyander and Koda, coz Adeptus Ridiculous have horus heresy better....until I-K make that 12 hour Heresy Video
“The Awakening” is the new best 40k animation. It is a full fan-made movie. Also glad you found the Sandman on Terra, he is one of the best 40k youtubers
@@theafrikan-scifi-scholar Everyone gets to Luetin09 eventually, meme videos and fan projects can only take you to a point if you're truly getting hooked into 40K (not that memes aren't good content, mind you). I don't even think it's as much about him not being able to watch Luetin's content, I think it's more about worrying if that sort of content is suitable for his audience in the low attention span economy. But DeeBee sounds like a guy who really has a neck for this stuff and he's been saying that he would really like to know about things like everyday life of an average citizen etc., and Luetin makes great content for that sort of things.
To answer some of your questions, the artwork here is about 99% official art. A good chunk of it is from the Horus Heresy book covers and others are from the card game. The Slaanesh video you liked and that cinematic with the Greater Daemon of Nurgle with maggots in its mouth were from Warhammer Fantasy, specifically the Total War: Warhammer 3 game, both of which are worth checking out imo. These cinematics still fit because daemons and Chaos in general remain largely the same across both universes.
Yeah. That map of the Realm of Chaos, I think was from either Warhammer Fantasy Battle, or Age of Sigmar, cos I remember the Eye of Terror had fans going "Wait a minute, are the two games in the same Universe?" I think GW said it was a Easter Egg, I think the Artist just wanted to mess with the fans.
Warhammer 40k is incredible, but once you've learned all you can, you want more. I do suggest if you (Dee) get "tired" or "bored" of Warhammer 40k, check out Warhammer fantasy, its cool.
Ok on another note, when I worked at HQ there were some talks about movies. However, GW is very cautious about their IP. All talks failed because GW’s stipulations about how their IP should be used. If Henry Caville manages to get the Amazon TV series off the ground and close to what Fallout managed it will be amazing! I suggest you visit a Warhammer store. If possible visit Warhammer World cause damn it’s amazing.
4:20 the trailer was for the Horus Heresy Tabletop. Which I think had been around for a while alongside 40k but was getting a new edition? (I'm sure someone will clarify)
@@MrNotyobusiness Did a bit of searching. It was for the 2nd edition of the Horus Heresy game. 1st edition was back in 2017 through Forge World according to lexicanum
@@berserk06 Yes, it was for 2nd edition. 1st edition started in 2017, but the Horus Heresy game has been around since 2012 where it first used 40k rules (6th and 7th edition).
Warhammer and Warhammer 40k are two separate but related Universes btw. Warhammer is high fantasy, 40k is Sci fi mixed with some fantasy elements. The chaos gods also exist in both and are pretty much the same.
Horus is so much bigger then any other regular space marine, because he's hand-crafted from the Emperor's his own freaking self genetic material. If the Emperor is like a god and his size is like a giant, then his sons primarchs (Horus is one of them) are demigods and half his size, as space marines are half their primarchs size (because they are hand-crafted from their primarchs and human genetic material) and the humans half regular space marine size.
That recap of the Heresy would've been a lot better if Sandman wasn't making jokes that only make sense to 40K fans who already know everything every five seconds.
9:49 also perfect explanation of potential reason about 2 and 11 is on arbiter ians channel. 15 minutes and you will be satisfied completely, and blown away by how DEEP and misterious that thing is
The cinematic is for a boxed set of plastic toy soldiers.. and rule set.. to fight the battles of the Horus Heresy set in the year 30,000 (round about).
I'd recommend looking into lore on how a Tyranid invasion develops. The effects they have on the worlds they invade (and not just their denizens) is truly catastrophic
4:07 it's a trailer for TABLETOP game, yes, for plastic little toy-soldiers with THIS quality and THIS lore (100+ books about it). Warhammer 30k is subtype of Warhammer 40k.
If you want super in depth and highly produced lore, Leutin09 is an amazing channel. If you want amazing speculation and theories on fringe topics, Sandman is the way to go. If you want some lolz, with a broad intro to the lore, pancreasnowork and Majorkill are goated.
Seriously if you ever got asked the question how would kind of describe the warp, watch "Event Horizon". What could happen to a ship travelling through the warp. Its the best 40k film that's not 40k. Many of us see it as a 40k precursor humanities early early dabbling into FTL tech. All round great Sci-fi horror film.
One of the script writers has in fact confirmed that they took inspiration from Warhammer for the movie, on a Twitter Q&A. One of his co-writers was a Warhammer 40k table top player and he started telling them about the whole Warp travel, that lead them to write the story of the movie.
@@doublep1980 Fun-ish fact, back when I was studying English literature A-Level, my teacher made as watch Event Horizon as an example of Gothic Traditions in modern film. We also watched Men in Black for the same thing.
@@doublep1980 I did not know that. That explains everything the 40k influence in the film it was just too blatant. It just re-afirms my stance on Event Horizon its a 40k film any body who disagrees is a heretic and can fight me on it. 🤣
I highly recommend (if not already on your list): Invicta- 2 part 'True Size of a Tyranid Invasion' and 2 part 'True Size of a Space Marine Chapter' videos Both will help give a ton of context for your Space Marine 2 playthrough.
The first trailer is for a new revitalized edition of the Horus Heresy tabletop game. So 40k is a tabletop game and there is a spinoff version of it for Heresy which is based on older more complicated rules. The trailer was made to promote the new edition for it which came out a few years ago. It's very focused on explicitly marine-vs-marine combat and has more in depth unique rules for each legion to make them feel more unique.
Ruinstorm was caused by Erebus and Kor Phaeron doing dark rituals. It was calculated to cut off the Ultramarines and Blood Angels from returning to Terra.
10:40 the images, like the primarchs, space marines, and the emperor are sourced art used for the 40k Horus heresy Novels. The picture of the Emperor is from the novel, "Master of Mankind" for example
That's genuinely the scale of Primarchs to the space marines, they make humans look like dwarves. It also helps that he's roided out on Chaos energy. Also this trailer was to showcase the new edition for the Horus Heresy miniature game at the time.
I love chaos marines and their interaction with loyal marines in 41st millenium, but man those battles of Horus Heresy were awesome, where both sides were alike, and traitors weren't yet all those mutated, fused with armor or otherwise changed marines. It was basically civil war cubed. If anyone likes the tragedy of civil wars and aesthetic that comes from it, they would love Horus Heresy.
Wanted to help you out with your questions on the art and cinematics… the cinematics are either from games like space marine and space marine 2 or advertisements for the table top mini’s and books. The art pieces are usually from codex’s or from Games Workshops magazine. Codex’s (as I can just hear the question) are books needed to play the table top game. Each faction (and some individual space marine and chaos space marine chapters) have that breaks down parts of there history, units, rules, battle tactics… that sort of thing. The art is a huge part of the community be it in the form of fan animations like “astartes” “the awakening” or “helsreach” tutorials on how to paint the minis and such.
Hey @deebeegeek the reason horus is so big than other space marine is because he's a primarch all the primearchs tower above theirs sons , and the giant robot,s are warlord class titans and there is more 40k content called Pariah Nexus it's a good story
I believe the reason Horus was so vengeful was because the Emperor, the Primarchs father, instituted the Imperial Truth, that there were no gods of any kind and that Athieism was the only true way to live. Except there were gods. And also the Primarchs themselves were made by power taken/stolen from the warp.
6:24 they are usually referred as Imperial Knights or Chaos Knights. There are a few different type of titans, knight crusader, armiger knights, warhound titan, warlord titan and the famous emperor class titan. Knight crusaders usually operate like actual Knights, the king offers some land and other benefits to the knight in exchange for service, in 40k its pretty similar, the knights act as symbol to the noble houses to which the militarum or chaos lord can give you a call and says (hey, i need your knight and pilot to mow down few "bad" guys in this X war). I admit, my knowledge is limited to this knight and titan stuff so if any HC knight boi is reading this, feel free to correct me because i want to know more too about knights!
The trailer was for the launch of the 2nd edition of the Warhammer 30k tabletop game. That game has all the armies that took place in the massive civil war between the 18 space marine legions, the Primarchs all have models and rules, the Titan legions, Mechanicum, Knight Houses, Imperiao Army, etc etc. The games itself are generally larger than 40K. Lots of tech recovered and rediscovered during the great crusade is still available before being lost again. The Primarchs are all bigger than the space marines. Horus was referring to the portal on Molech. During the age of strife, the Emperor somehow traveled through the warp storms to Molech and entered a portal where he struck a bargain with the big four chaos gods, essentially taking some of their power. This is how the Emperor became such an incredibly powerful psyker. Horus would go through this portal too so that he could face the Emperor as an equal. Horus was tricked by being showed a future he would create. In that future, he saw humanity worshiping the Emperor as a god and the Imperial truth they spread, no longer around. The Emperor hid the truth of chaos and the dark gods from his sons, and this ignorance was double edged, but it ultimately helped lead to their fall to chaos. 30k really has its own aesthetic compared to 40K. The imagery is great, the novels and stories are a massive Greek tragedy. Humanity was so close to total victory, and then everything fell apart.
Btw, Sandman of Terra's video uses mostly official art, although I think he does use some stuff from Warhammer Fantasy for the Chaos Gods since they are one of the few things both settings have in common.
@Deebee Don't worry about the 2nd and 11th legion. Originally GamesWorkshop just proclaimed that all knowledge of them had been purged to leave two blank Legions that players could use to make up something for themselves. All Legions/Chapters have a distinct colour scheme. But for those who want to get creative with the painting, or want to try another mix of units, the "purged knowledge" allows them to proclaim their chapter as part of the 2nd or 11th. It also gives a possibility to make up all kinds of stories.
Just cus you asked, the giant robots of the Imperiam are the Imperial Knights but there's a bigger classification of giant robots. The Imperial Titans of the Coliga Titanica. And as you know, the reach of Chaos is subtle, the Knights and Titans also fell to the sways of the ruinous powers.
The trailer is for the Horus Heresy tabletop game. Its an offshoot of the main 40k tabletop, with similar rules, but all the playable characters and such being from the heresy
In one of Bricky's videos that you watched, he said that the chaos gods manipulated Horus, who then helped manipulate the other Primarchs. Also that's why Horus is so much bigger than other space marine. In on of those Bricky videos, he mentions that the Primarchs are essentially like bigger and stronger space marines
Roboute Gulliman is the primarch of the Ultramarines, whom you play in Space Marine 2. He was initially killed post-heresy, but came back to life in the recent lore. His return is the biggest change up in Warhammer history, something not even forseen by the fate Eldar
A little info about the Imperial Eagle symbol: The left head has it's eyes open and the other has them closed. This is because the Imperium is looking ahead to the future of mankind but in return ignorant to it's past. This is why it is this two-headed eagle. And about the 2nd and 11th legion: They did something really horrible (probably extreme chaos stuff) before the heresy and they were struck from the history because Big-E wanted to hide chaos to starve the gods from their source of power. It is hinted at that the primarchs remember them but are forced to never talk about them. Most likely the Space Wolves annihilated them as they are the Emperors executioners. Looking at the tabletop game the 2 legions are just a way for GW to give players legions to do fan made legions with (as far as I remember).
6:02 “Never-ending battle in hell”. Close, it was roughly 280 days on Terra but the last day stretched for an indeterminate amount of time because Horus learned how to mess with time and stretched the final day on Terra into a never-ending moment. The battle was so fierce that the air became unbreathable and people were using air that had been recycled for months. Many asphyxiated
Primarchs are naturally bigger than their space marine counterparts. The only exception to this is Alpharious and Omegon of the Alpha Legion who are of similar size to a space marine, which makes it all the easier for them to blend in with their legion and confuse their opposition which they actively did during their hay day in the great crusade and Horus Heresy.
You should check the lore for the Leagues of Votann They are a new/returning faction that was not referenced in the "all factions" video, as that video is no longer up-to-date with the current events You should best check WesHammer's video on them They first appeared in the 1st and 2nd editions of the game, called Squats back then, but were discontinued due to being too similar to the Imperial Guard and Space Marines, and having underdeveloped lore. They made however a huge comeback in the 9th edition and the current 10th edition, with greatly improved lore, under the new name of Leagues of Votann (the name "Squat" was revealed to be a derogatory name given to them by the |mperium of Man) Basically, just as the Eldar are Space Elves, the Leagues of Votann are Space Dwarves
All we really know for sure About the 2nd and the 11th legions are that they are refered to as "The Lost" and "The Forgotten". and that the Primarchs had their memories of what exactly happened removed from their minds.
oh for the 2nd and 11th primarch, the believed basic explanation is, when the game was first developed, they were left blank so you could make your own if you wanted, so they left 2 blank spaces one for you and one for your opponent. eventually they dropped the idea, and gave an in universe reason is each one had done something so terrible that got them removed from history, and the emperor made it psychically impossible for his other sons who did meet them to say their names. It was also used as a tool to keep his other sons in line, like when the blood drinking mutation started to showing in sanguinius' legion he was worried he would also get unpersoned if it got out
7:00 Horus is referring to the mystery around how the emperor made the primarchs. The current cannon has only revealed half of the emperors plan, and it is currently unknown what the emperor did during his time in the warp-only that he emerged with the power to create his sons. My theory is humanitys countless years of worshiping fake gods had begun to manifest a nexus in the warp that would emerge in the far future as a 5th chaos god. The emperor eliminates all religion to slow its growth, enters the warp to strip it of different attributes he attuned to the "18" primarchs, and once placed on the golden throne-begins the millenia long process of assimilating humanitys accumulating psychic energy so that he would become the mind of the chaos god. Rather then humanity birthing a second slinesh, our collective effect on the warp would be put to use elevating the emperor to godhood instead. Horus sees the future of the imperium becoming a cult in worship of the emperor (this is cannon) he learns of the emperor's plan to ascend to godhood and assumes everything the emperor has done was for the pursuit of total power.
Yeah. Best part of the writing in the entire series to me. Because it logically follows if you don't question the source and (if your Horus) check your own Ego to be weary of Chaos telling you what you want to hear.
@@Sorain1 youre totally right about that part being good writing, but it creates problems elsewhere. Now the story is either: Magnus and Horus fell to chaos because Big E didnt feel like fully explaining the situation, ooor the heresy really was part of the plan and that could turn into "the emperor is the ultimate plot device" really easily. Only time ( and Henry Cavill) will tell
Small explanation to what cinematic ment, Emperor acually made a deal with Chaos gods. it's not 100% sure dune to "it's funnier if it's misterious", but he probably capture minor chaos gods and gave them bodies (read primarch) to inhabit. And chaos gods been turds as always said that to Horus and mixed it with lies. Also we know what happen with 2nd and 11th Primarch. THere is Malcador art with them. (look at his chair ornament with skulls 2 and 11)
Now you gotta watch the Total War Warhammer cinematically which is what you were asking about around the middle of the video. It will give you lots of imagery to help picture and explain every faction if you’re interested.
The cinematic was meant both for the 30k tabletop variation of Warhammer 40k set during the Horus Heresy, as well as a way of commemorating the Horus Heresy series as a whole. If memory serves, the trailer also came hot on the heels of Astartes, which wasn't a cinematic so much as it was a fan-made short film; a short film that was so successful that GW hired its creator to work for them to avoid him continuing to create high quality animations using their IP without their consent. Shortly afterwards, GW began the crackdown on fan peojects that saw If The Emperor Had A Text-To-Speech Device cancelled for fear of legal action from GW, as the team working on TTS were not extended any assurances that GW would not target them and they chose to err on the side of caution because nobody on the team could afford a lengthy and expensive legal battle with GW. The TTS team later swapped over to doing a World of Darkness fan series called Hunter: The Parenting and use various 40k characters that were used in TTS as expys for HTP, such as the Emperor becoming the character of 'Big D', a deranged monster hunter with an uncanny knowledge of the supernatural that may or may not just be the Emperor during the early 2000s.
Great reaction as always, and yes, you said Roboute Guilliman right in your first attempt. The Amber King, on YT, has a very good, and sometimes voice acted, lore to react to about Primarchs, their Legions, other relevant 40k character, and general lore as well. Great to listen but, because they're looong videos, if you want to give it a try... They have a 3h13min long full voice acted lore video about Horus, so... a 3 videos'reaction maybe?! ;P xD
The Emperors image changes with everyone who sees him. His psychic might is such that any who look upon him will likely see a slightly different image. Depending on how much power the emperor is projecting, and what the personal image of the Emperor is to the person observing. Therefore it is lore accurate that his size and image may change slightly from artist to artist.
To clarify, this is a trailer for the “Horus Heresy” tabletop wargame. It’s a spinoff of the main 40k tabletop rules with it’s own factions and miniature range. The setting being the Horus heresy period 10k years before 40k, it’s basically Warhammer 30,000. You’ll sometimes see it referred to as 30k.
Horus and Big E Mutually killed each other (kinda). Horus shanked his dad His dad psychiclly shanked him so hard, his soul got deleted. Emperor gets saved by Rogal Dorn, gets plopped on the Golden Throne and then sits there to the present day, not dead, just as close as you can get to be considered 'Alive'
Horus was so big for 2 reasons, 1 he's a Primarch, they're all bigger than the space marines and 2, he swelled with the power of chaos. As a very long term Warhammer 40k fan I would seriously recommend reading at least the first 3 books of the Horus Heresy series; Horus Rising, False Gods and Galaxy In Flames (they're also available as audiobooks). I know that books aren't the favourite medium for a lot of people but there is so much information in them that even IF there were film or tv adaptations you wouldn't get the whole picture.
The cinematics are from Total War Warhammer (The Fantasy setting of Games Workshop) as the Chaos gods exist in the fantasy setting as well, which goes just as hard as 40k, the cinematics for total war warhammer are great.
Finally, Horus Heresy reaction. This sub series of 30k has 100+ novels/books and I read them ALL - and it's awesome 18+ years long series experience. They need to make a movie/series like GoT/LotR with a billion+ dollar budget. But hope is the first step on the road to disappointment... "Death is all around us now: the death of the body, the death of the spirit, but most of all the death of hope." "The hand of the Arch-Traitor struck, and Hell followed with it..." even the quotes as metal as fuck.
12:12 To answer your question: A: Yes that is a Slannesh Demon (pretty sure it’s called N’kari). B: This is from the total war, Warhammer 3 trailer for the Slannesh/Nurgle races, which actually raises and interesting fact: 40k is not the only Warhammer universe. To my knowledge there are 3 total: Warhammer 40k (aka Warhammer Sci-fi) Warhammer Old World (aka Warhammer Fantasy) And Warhammer Age of Sigmar (basically a reboot hybrid of Warhammer Fantasy that tries to make the fantasy world more like 40k). The total war game (the game whose trailer this cinematic is taken from) is set in the fantasy universe, not 40k, so while the trailers for Total War Warhammer tend to be really good, they are entirely separate from 40k.
Primarchs are based off the Emperors DNA, so they are gonna be massive to come degree. Vulkan, for example, is around 18 feet tall. Omegon and Alpharius are as small as space marines because they are 1 primarch soul split into two twin bodies.
There is a fan made animation set to the audiobook "Helsreach" that is essentially a feature length film featuring my lifelong Space Marine chapter: The Black Templars. Additionally the Black Templars are imo really cool, have had some lore reconstruction (used to be the least worshippy of the Emperor now they're the most) and is a succesor-chapter (child-chapter) of the Imperial Fists and are full-on crusading knights all about melee, chaining their swords to their hands!
Him talking about his father stealing the power of the Gods goes back to when big E went into a portal on Moloch (a planet) and after that he was able to forge his genesons (the Primarchs) and subsequently the Astartes legions. He made a pact with the Gods (the emperor did). Every Primarch is connected to the warp by essence and to a much lesser degree so are the Space Marines (the Astartes). The Webway project was Big E’s secret work, to remove mankind from needing the warp to travel and that was part of his reason for reuniting all of humanity. While under the influence of Chaos but still making im his own free choice Horus let his ego rule him and he was going to save humanity from the emperor stripping them of their right to commune with the warp entities and control the warp itself.
So a few things....first up, the "lies" Big E said could have been several things. 1) the existence of the chaos gods 2) what Big E was working on back on Terra 3) the open but never confirmed secret that Big E made a deal with the Chaos gods to make the primarchs, then never filled his side of the bargin...though for that to be the case, GW would need to confirm that rather than hit at it....this could also be the "stole power from the gods" part as well....
Check out the 9th and 10th edition trailers. Alpharius is only a foot or two taller than a normal space marine, Vulcan is around 17 ft, the emperor is 15ft.
Big E made a deal with the chaos gods(and other warp entities) in order to get the power to create the primarchs. He then double crossed them. Afterwards, he kept the true nature of the warp(including the existence of chaos) from the primarchs. Chaos used this information to sew doubt into Horus about the emperor's motives, and methods. Then, Horus was shown a vision of a future where humanity was on the brink of annihilation, all progress was lost, and humabity worshipped the Emperor as a god. Horus then began his rebellion, unaware that he would be responsible for bringing about the very future he was trying to prevent.
1:11 - As opposed to being recommended in the comments on probably every one of his 40K videos. 4:07 - Warhammer: The Horus Heresy (AKA Warhammer 30K) is a spin-off of the 40K tabletop game set during the Horus Heresy. It uses a polished version of the 7th Edition rules (8th Edition 40K was a ground-up redesign). This trailer is for the 2nd Edition of The Horus Heresy tabletop game. 4:42 - Because he's a Primarch. Primarchs are as far beyond Space Marines as Marines are beyond baseline humans. Horus is estimated to be the second tallest With only Vulkan being taller. Most Primarchs hover around 10 ft (3 meters) tall. 6:24 - The 'giant robots' you're familiar with are Imperial Knights. THESE are TITANS. An Imperial Knight (the size of a small house) comes up to about the hip of the smallest Titan. This is a Warlord class titan which is about 30% taller than that and is only mid-range. If you'd played the original Space Marine, you'd have gotten a chance to see one of those. 7:04 - Horus was tricked by the Chaos Gods into believing that The Emperor was trying to attain Godhood and planned to leave his sons behind to do so. They convinced him with secrets and half-truths, including a horrible vision of the future that they neglected to mention was the future if he DID betray The Emperor. 9:32 - You try to 'dive deeper' into the Lost Legions, all you'll get is a concussion and a damp face. There is no 'deeper' lore for them. They're intentionally blank spots in the lore left for players to fill. 10:28 - This is the cover-art for 'The Master of Mankind,' the 41st novel in the Horus Heresy lore series. 12:14 - No, that's a Keeper of Secrets. It's the Greater Demon of Slaanesh, the god's most powerful demonic servant. Their defining features are horned heads and 4 arms, two normal, two clawed. (All other features are variable.) 13:44 - Ironically, it wasn't until about the third publication GW published in the 40K franchise that the Horus Heresy was even mentioned, and then it was only a paragraph. It would be years before any details were given, and it wasn't until 2006 that it was explored in-depth. 16:15 - Just thought I'd point out that this thing Jagahtai Khan is fighting is also a Keeper of Secrets (more closely resembling the original miniature than the earlier example). 18:17 - Okay, this is a really good picture because it shows the three main classes of Titans. The one in the back with the dog face is a Warhound Titan, the smallest class and the one Imperial Knights only come up to the thigh of. Behind him in the distance you can see Warlord class titans, which are what you saw earlier. This thing in the front that the Warhound only comes up to the knee of is an Imperiator Class titan. A fighting robot so big, it wears a gothic cathedral as a hat. This is the origin of the meme "Everyone's gangsta until the church starts walkin'." 18:23 - It's pretty meme-y, but it's coverage is decent. 18:57 - I haven't gotten to this part of the Seige of Terra series yet, so I can't comment on the 'factual' version of events, but the classic version of the Horus/Sanguinus fight is that Sanquinus was just edging Horus out when Horus blindsided Sanguinus with a psychic attack and killed him while he was incapacitated. 19:28 - Aside from just being revenge for Monarchia, the Word Bearers' attack on Calth was also a great sacrificial ritual which they used to create the Ruinstorm. They directed the pain and misery the betrayal at Calth caused to set the Warp into turmoil, thus making Warp travel impossible for any ship not guided by a demon. 20:07 - It's a little complicated, but the short version is that Horus struck The Emperor a mortal blow, but then Big E psychically ERASED Horus. Then he was placed in the Golden Throne. 21:25 - You got it right the first time. My favorite is still 'Robot Girlyman.' 22:07 - One of the reasons this franchise has endured so long is that it's so over-the-top that it's almost impossible to take completely seriously. Most of the best fan content for 40K is highly satirical in nature (TTS, anyone?). Of course, the truly EPIC fan content takes it as seriously as it takes itself. 23:03 - 40. And yeah, it's a similar deal with Nintendo. The company is so protective of it's IP that they need to make sure everything is PERFECT if they lend it out to someone else (with varying degrees of success). 26:05 - Never gonna happen.
Horus was shown the future timeline of 40k by the chaos gods without the context that he causes it. Misled but by real events that WILL occur and that he and several brothers were removed from imperial history.
There was actually a straight to video film of 40k, (and a German fan film from the 2008 we dont talk about but at least they tried on the costumes). The official film Is called Ultramarines: A Warhammer 40,000 Movie, sadly some of the CGI doesnt hold up to modern standards so they use a lot of sandstorms to avoid having to animate beyond a few meters vision.
Why is he so big? Well, the primarchs be big bois. Simple as.
Primarchs are big bois. Warp juice makes them even bigger bois
@@SemiOmni314 Plus he is in his Armor that makes him look even bigger giving him another half foot to a foot in height.
@DeeBeeGeek yeah, essentially ALL of the primarch's, with the exception of Vulkan of the salamanders, are all around 9-10 feet tall on average. Horus in the trailer here, is also juiced to the gills with Chaos/warp energy, making him even bigger
Have you seen their father, he is the biggest boy.

Primarch = 9.5--11ish ft
Big E > Anyone else in the room at all times. Likely due to vanity.
A few little extras:
- They are known as the Forgotten and the Purged.

They also showed him the 40k future and made him belief that this was the emperors plan and not that it will be the result of the HH

@@t2-scoops436 great shout! A fantastic short story and gives a great insight into to the emperors mindset genius and also arrogance !
Many, me included, think that what he said was a coverup for the real reason of banning religion (as it was stated that, while chaos can feed off religion, it mostly feeds from emotions, but religion is also stated multiple times that it's used as the biggest gate to reality by chaos to have a foothold on a world, and corrupt people around, a single corrupt or possessed citizen will corrupt others and do a ritual to summon Cthulhu like daemons and others.)
Why the coverup? Simple chaos corruption again, people get crazy or corrupted when they simply witness their symbols or hear strange noises, that's why it's a secret even to primarchs.
Yep, The Last Church convinced me that 40k was worth paying attention to.
It’s probably one of the best short stories I’ve ever watched, cheers chaps
Absolutely!
10:32 that pic is a book cover "The Master of Mankind"

I’ve understood it as the size comes from the demonic demon seeds they carry, with most only having half a one but Horus has a whole

One of the script writers has in fact confirmed that they took inspiration from Warhammer for the movie, on a Twitter Q&A. One of his co-writers was a Warhammer 40k table top player and he started telling them about the whole Warp travel, that lead them to write the story of the movie.

11:37 - Sanguinius had something similar, but a of blood. Those eye on Horus armor is actually a Powerful Weapon from the Emperor.
The trailer was for the Horus Heresy Tabletop game, which is separate from broader 40k as it features only Human armies
21:25 This was the cleanest first pronunciation of his name I've heard. Wonderful
Btw, Sandman of Terra's video uses mostly official art, although I think he does use some stuff from Warhammer Fantasy for the Chaos Gods since they are one of the few things both settings have in common.
@Deebee
Don't worry about the 2nd and 11th legion.
Originally GamesWorkshop just proclaimed that all knowledge of them had been purged
to leave two blank Legions that players could use to make up something for themselves.
All Legions/Chapters have a distinct colour scheme.
But for those who want to get creative with the painting,
or want to try another mix of units, the "purged knowledge" allows them to proclaim their chapter as part of the 2nd or 11th.
I’m enjoying seeing you discover the rabbit hole that is 40K! Weshammer has really good in depth videos for a lot of the lore.
The cinematics you asked about are trailers from Total War Warhammer 3 Chaos faction trailers
7:44 "The road to hell is paved with good intentions"
If you wanna have an idea what the emperor was like, I recommend "The Last Church" fan animation
You should check the lore for the Leagues of Votann
They are a new/returning faction that was not referenced in the "all factions" video, as that video is no longer up-to-date with the current events
You should best check WesHammer's video on them
They first appeared in the 1st and 2nd editions of the game, called Squats back then, but were discontinued due to being too similar to the Imperial Guard and Space Marines, and having underdeveloped lore.
They made however a huge comeback in the 9th edition and the current 10th edition, with greatly improved lore, under the new name of Leagues of Votann (the name "Squat" was revealed to be a derogatory name given to them by the |mperium of Man)
Basically, just as the Eldar are Space Elves, the Leagues of Votann are Space Dwarves
This
Yeah, for all the problems with the tabletop mechanics, the lore on the Leagues of Votann is solid work.
"These poor Space Marines", words you never thought would be in the same sentence.
It was also used as a tool to keep his other sons in line, like when the blood drinking mutation started to showing in sanguinius' legion he was worried he would also get unpersoned if it got out
A bit late but I was just wondering if the animation series from Games workshop has been suggested. Specifically Pariah Nexus, and The Tithes.
(look at his chair ornament with skulls 2 and 11)
Time for next level, time for Luetin09
Its a trailer for the new edition of Horus heresy the miniature game
Now you gotta watch the Total War Warhammer cinematically which is what you were asking about around the middle of the video. It will give you lots of imagery to help picture and explain every faction if you’re interested.
11:27 - The Luna Wolves turned Sons of Horus. Did you know? Lemun Russ was not the only Wolf-Wolf-Wolf Primarch.
I recomend a video to you called "The emperor goes to war", it describes the emperor really leading an army on the ground and how overpowered he is.
10:30 There is a book "The Art of the Horus Heresy" with lots of oficial art and book covers. Not longer on sale, but it can be found "second hand".
From holy terra to the galactic rim. Let the galaxy burn, as the stars fall, and the seas boil!
6:31 The biggest of the big are called Titans, but there are also Imperial Knights which are more mid sized
Horus and Big E Mutually killed each other (kinda).
Horus shanked his dad
His dad psychiclly shanked him so hard, his soul got deleted.
Arbitor Ian's video on the Horus Heresy lays it all out succinctly and in sequence. Highly recommend.
"Death is all around us now: the death of the body, the death of the spirit, but most of all the death of hope."
"The hand of the Arch-Traitor struck, and Hell followed with it..." even the quotes as metal as fuck.
12:12 To answer your question:
A: Yes that is a Slannesh Demon (pretty sure it’s called N’kari).
B: This is from the total war, Warhammer 3 trailer for the Slannesh/Nurgle races, which actually raises and interesting fact: 40k is not the only Warhammer universe.
To my knowledge there are 3 total:
Warhammer 40k (aka Warhammer Sci-fi)
Warhammer Old World (aka Warhammer Fantasy)
And Warhammer Age of Sigmar (basically a reboot hybrid of Warhammer Fantasy that tries to make the fantasy world more like 40k).
Vulkan isn’t 18 feet tall, he’s about 11 at most 😂
There is a fan made animation set to the audiobook "Helsreach" that is essentially a feature length film featuring my lifelong Space Marine chapter: The Black Templars.
You NEED to check out "if the emperor had a text to speach device" ! It's absolutely AMAZING and HILARIUS!
So a few things....first up, the "lies" Big E said could have been several things.
1) the existence of the chaos gods
2) what Big E was working on back on Terra
3) the open but never confirmed secret that Big E made a deal with the Chaos gods to make the primarchs, then never filled his side of the bargin...though for that to be the case, GW would need to confirm that rather than hit at it....this could also be the "stole power from the gods" part as well....
Check out the 9th and 10th edition trailers. Alpharius is only a foot or two taller than a normal space marine, Vulcan is around 17 ft, the emperor is 15ft.
As the saying goes "every villian is the hero of their own story."
The Horus heresy and explaining the primachs are the best explanation vids since u still have soo many questions
(All other features are variable.)
13:44 - Ironically, it wasn't until about the third publication GW published in the 40K franchise that the Horus Heresy was even mentioned, and then it was only a paragraph.
This is the origin of the meme "Everyone's gangsta until the church starts walkin'."
18:23 - It's pretty meme-y, but it's coverage is decent.
My favorite is still 'Robot Girlyman.'
22:07 - One of the reasons this franchise has endured so long is that it's so over-the-top that it's almost impossible to take completely seriously.
The big robots are called Titans, they are the Imperium's version of the Ork Stompa unit.
5:45 yup and then you read about how much casualties there was in Horus heresy and then doubling the death toll with Great Scouring.
