To clear up any confusion, the C'tan never said anything about souls, they only promised immortality.
The C'tan who brokered the deal with Szarekh would become known as the Deceiver because of this.

    • @Sorain1
      @Sorain1 2 месяца назад +18

Yup. Best I can tell, the deal stated amount to 'You serve us, we make you immortal.' The Deceiver left out the how, and the consequences to the independence of the Necrontyr population. Plus they put the Silent King on point, not directly enslaving the Necrons to them, but to The Silent King. (A slight mistake on their part.)

Its not a lure at all. Space Marine 2 is truly just a sequel for the fans of Space Marine, however it does a very good job at also introducing newcomers but make no mistake the main target audience is the Warhammer 40K fans and especially those who played the first game. You can even find many references and easter eggs about the first game through the entire game and even the ending cinematic is a direct follow-up from the first game and all of this flies over your head if you have never played Space Marine 1.
Warhammer 40K is not only the original "StarCraft" but it has also always remained self-conscious of newcomers to the franchise and most Warhammer 40K games will always find a way to introduce newcomers to the world of 40K.

The C'Tan didn't actually tell the Necrons what their form of immortality would entail. They essentially tricked the Necrons into selling their souls, then enslaved the now-soulless species. That's why the Silent King rebelled, to free his people and to atone for accidentally damning them.
Also, not all of the Necrons kept their intelligence. Most are basically mindless, with only a small-ish percentage of them keeping their personalities and intelligence, forming the leadership cadre of the Necrons. In the present day of the setting, a number of Necron Lords have been searching for a way to create or steal souls to restore what was stolen from them. Mostly this involves pretty horrific experimentation on organic species like humans or Eldar, and they haven't really made much progress.

    1. He wanted to immunize Humanity to the influence of the Warp and Chaos somehow.
    2. He wanted us to have full control of the Webway to not be dependent on warp based travel yet maintain a galactic civilization.
    3. It's likely he wanted all humanity to one day be super psyker perpetuals like him after the Space Marines domesticated the galaxy and retired from war to rule in government.

@@Rulytasho Even for all the things that he gets wrong, he manages to explain them in a way that shows how he could arrive there with a reasonable amount of knowledge across every group and faction. Honestly, the only thing that I think he did wrong here was saying that Slaanesh's birth kicked off the Age of Strife, when the energies forming that god still raging through the Warp were the main problem - and quickly dissipated immediately after her/his/its birth.
Honestly, he probably knows that he has some stuff wrong before releasing the video, and just explains it in a way that he thinks will be easier for people taking their first steps into the lore.
Honestly, it's a toss up between Bricky, Majorkill and Pancreas for easy-entry lore with comedy to hold in the audience. Bricky is ultimately the most "react-friendly" of the three for 40k in my opinion, mainly because Pancreas mostly focuses on Fantasy and Majorkill is definitely not suitable for general audiences. Pancreas has his own niche in WH Fantasy and doesn't do 40k often, but certainly can tell a story for more character-specific lore (while Eldar simping the entire time). Majorkill makes great content for tier-list type lore, along with being great at a shorter format for more niche groups and characters. I personally have no issue with Majorkill's implementation of humor in his videos, because I go in with the understanding that we're not supposed to take it too seriously, since a lot of comparisons in his videos are made from his opinion after reading - rather than objective fact.

That's fanon, not lore canon. Ork's build ridiculous machinery because:
      1) they are a genetically engineered race, and the Mekboyz are an emergent phenomenon when a group of Orks grows to a certain level. Your average Ork is dumb as a bag of dead rats, but Mekboyz have mad engineering skills literally built into their genes.
      2) The Imperium may say "this thing shouldn't work!", but that's mostly because they have forgotten so many basics of engineering and some of them simply can't grok that a complex machine will work without prayer and oils.
That said, the Ork's collective psychic aura *is* a thing, but it's more the case of affecting probability of things going right vs wrong. Not a case of "I pick up stick and say BANG"

-The deal between Necrontyr and C'tan was like a deal with the devil: you get what you wished for, immortality (but I didn't say how tho)
-The Silent King at the time didn't know about C'tan's trickery and they desperately needed that because their life span is around 20-25 years while having space cancer due to their sun's radiation
    - "Where's the Emperor this whole time?" He's everywhere and nowhere, trying to influence humanity in his own way. Sometimes he was a guy that built a giant ship; sometimes he was a guy with a big J in his name; an influencer, a doctor, a scientist, a hobo, etc.

29:23 Hate to break it to you, Deebee, but the more they try to explain about who the Emperor is, where he came from, what he wants, how he thinks and feels, and the actions he takes, the more contradictory, illogical, and bizarre he becomes. The gist of Big E is that he's basically the supernatural manifestation of the full potential of Humanity; the Emperor personifies our greatest ambitions and achievements while also illuminating the depths of our flaws.
Aside from a few guiding principles, the Emperor's personality is wildly different depending on what he is doing and who he is speaking to (especially when it comes to interacting with his Primarchs). That's not even getting into the weird ways his psyker powers manifest (being a staunch atheist yet people who worship him gain magic powers, being a Perpetual who can't die yet needing to be fed souls to keep him on the Golden Throne, having his soul potentially being split up into multiple manifestations in the Warp after his fall, etc.).
All you need to know is Big E is weird, mysterious, wanted to kill everything in the galaxy that wasn't Humanity, really only trusted one guy in his entire life, hated religion but ultimately became an idol of worship because people will believe what they want to believe, and almost everything bad that has happened with Humanity either directly or indirectly happened because he insisted that he knew better than anyone else and thought he could beat Chaos by keeping its existence hidden from everyone.

The problem is a combination of having too many authors writing him (all differently) and one of the most prolific to the assignment does _not_ like the Emperor at all. Because of the lack of any kind of editorial control and central consistent character to him. All the primarchs suffer from the same to one degree or another. (Purterabo is one of the worst examples.) While I have no personal beef with ADB, assigning him to write the Emperor was a critical mistake.

15:00 He's abridging the War in Heaven but basically the cliffnotes are the Necrons where an advanced civilization with genetic cancer. The Old Ones are a super advanced alien civilization to the point where their tech will seem like magic even by dark age of technology human standards. The Necrons found the C'Tan who (not sure if this was retconned) the Necrons gave metal bodies and the C'Tan in turn offered immortality. The trap was they didn't tell that immortality involved sucking their souls out of their bodies. So the Necrons won and when the C'Tan where busy fighting each other the Necrons shattered their bodies and turned them into batteries.
Also, he didn't do the best job with the Warp which I don't blame him all of this stuff is a topic in and of itself. Basically, it's a realm that feeds on emotions and ideals. So, when you slaughter quintillions of people in war, all that fear, hatred, and death gets shot into the warp and the god of war and the god of death that feeds off stuff like that get pretty powerful. Like thing of it like our world. Some parts are doing pretty bad, some parts not so much so overall the emotional scale of the world might be even steven but if you have WW2, it's going to be overwhelmingly negative. Upscale that population size to the entire Milky Way galaxy and that's why the Warp is all messed up. That's also what daemons are in 40k. They are manifestations of either emotion or events of extreme emotional significance. Like that saying, "kill them all let god sort them out" that came from the massacre at Béziers on 22 July 1209 (historical context was there where some odd 300 Cathars amongst 20,000 Catholics. They wanted to kill the Cathars so they just murdered everyone with the logic God will know his own and let them into Heaven) spoken by the commander. There was a very powerful daemon created by just the horror and unfairness of that event in 40k.

It tells the timeline using one of the character of the setting: Trazyn (the Infinite), as a narrator, telling us the events of the universe, making it an interesting storytelling/take or viewpoint from the character. Trazyn being one of the Necron/Necrontyr that took part during the War in Heaven. (I would say there is also a bit more details compared to the one from Bricky but not a lot as both have the same subject being the timeline in a broad way and about the same duration)
After that Luetin09 is probably another good stop too with the hundreds of video about this universe.
