Hiya, it took a minute but here's my first upload of 2024.
I wanted to start the year off with an original piece since it's been a while since I've done one of these unprompted. The inspiration (or I guess thought process) behind this track was originally some notion along the lines of "missable end-game optional boss that you stumble on too early and it kills you instantly" or "that really cryptic in-game encounter that you just barely get through and breaks established lore conventions up until that point" and just plain ol "final boss battle theme".
Eventually this idea morphed into something cryptozoological or paranormal, since I kinda liked the idea of whatever you're battling not really registering to your senses correctly. I have no idea if a "non-euclidean foe" is even possible since the concept normally applies to geometry and not necessarily life itself... I think I just like the phrase more than anything.
I wrote this piece in one day and spent the following few weeks learning how to play and recording what I wrote for myself on guitar; It's easily one of the most difficult things I've ever learned. Do not ever expect me to play this live because I legitimately do not think I could lol.
I told my editor Rachel about my ideas and inspirations and told her to do whatever she wanted for the visuals. I realized I was indirectly asking her to artistically define something that inherently doesn't make physical sense; but she did her best anyway and I think it looks neat!
I'm gonna try to do more original stuff like this for 2024, but I also have some pretty hype covers lined up too. Hopefully you'll get to see them soon.

This calls to mind a boss battle against an enemy whose physical manifestation fucks with the basics of reality. Maybe it has 10 foot arms, but if it attacks you along the diagonal axis of the arena (marked by a grid on the floor), the arms treat the 7-ish feet as if it's 5. Its body contorts and moves in ways simply impossible for normal matter. The Non-euclidian foe doesn't care that YOU can't reach through your own body to make a grab attack, or seep seamlessly through the seive of porous cinderblock as they chase you. Such petty and minor things as 'reality' hold nosway over it.

A sphere is euclidean but a triangle on the surface of a sphere falls into non-euclidean geometery and could potentially have, say, 3 right angles. What he mentions could be possible if you could pick the rules of the non-euclidean space. But also something as simple as a grid where a diagonal movement is as long as a straight move is also non-euclidean.

"Battle With a Non-Euclidean Foe" is such a badass name already, and it fits this song PERFECTLY. Even just the intro was absolutely insane, and then when that main part hits the intensity goes through the roof! It completely captures the feel of an intense battle with this alien entity. You did an absolutely PHENOMENAL job on this song, dude!!
I had assumed that this was from some new hotness indie game that I hadn't played yet. I was like "oh this is some crazy side-boss." So I checked the description and damn! Also props to your editor for the interpretation!

This genuinely fucks so hard and I love the idea behind it so much - I really love seeing that sort of weird alien shit in games and this captures that vibe of like, 'clipping into a secret area and fighting a boss that should not exist' SO well. The main recurring motif/chord in this is HEAVENLY. Phenomenal work, I need to go listen to more of your original stuff 100% this slams!!!

This feels like a thousand different songs I like were turned into a fractal, I can hear bits and pieces of things I've heard before but none of them come into focus, making this song somehow both incredibly familiar but also extremely fresh to me. God damn you make some hot compositions

I thought it sounded like old Hitoshi Sakamoto stuff (FF Tactics, FF12, Vagrant Story) or transitions in old RPG battle themes by other composers tho I guess that's where Toby Fox got his inspiration from so I guess you can relate it to him too. 1:46 sounds a lot like Hitoshi Sakamoto stuff too though so I do wonder if that's the inspiration instead.

@@thepoweroffreesh6820 i can see something in a plataform genre with a rng or convoluted procedure to get something undisclosed, then as you deal with a plain stage boss the screen clips and suddenly you get into bullet hell territory barely alive from the first round of shells

Holy shit this was fucking insane. Before even reading the description I was thinking "oh yeah, this could play over the Sans fight", but then I started thinking it's almost even a step above that, so reading the description where it says "missable end-game optional boss that you stumble on too early and it kills you instantly" was EXACTLY the vibe I had. This gives me the feeling of the Dullahan fight from Golden Sun, or maybe even that one boss from the pirate ship in the first game. This is genuinely one of the most incredible original battle themes I've ever heard.

This definitely feels like something from an exotic space battle. You went one further. “Battle with a Non-Euclidean being”? Radiates all sorts of energy. I could feel that with the way the music climbed in hills like a sine wave facing upward. I’m inclined to say pokemon and undertale inspired this song a little. You can see elements of the former when you repeat notes and it sits in a plateau of sorts but when the music starts climbing and getting more unique, that’s the dynamic battle music you get from undertale. Also you can attribute the old chip tune themes of space games to this. All over, it just feels really good. You can almost see the boss phases as the song progresses.
