@@edboy3959 I'll try to explain. In 1980, Alfred ran from the military and found the lover Anna Berlin. The two guys are from the military, sent to track him down and take him back. Alfred and Anna try to run but Alfred is beaten and, defeated, is forced into the military, leaving Anna to run by herself. In present time, the two try to find each other, hoping to reunite
Alfred, a man simply trying to avoid border guard duties with his girlfriend, tries to escape, and fails. He then is recruited into the border guard. Hits hard.
if this is alfred (he is indeed alfred) then the horse waching this is alfreds son or so also anna the wife of alfrd escaped so his son grew up somwhere away from berlin like wow

Okay, theory:
James, Lubo, and Alfred are dead and they’re just floating through the world (or universe, or other dimensions) and just peeking at other people’s stories.
Anyways yeah, nice argument, but next time maybe try to seem less rude by not stating religious beliefs are wrong. It literally doesn’t matter but it stirs up so much confrontation and arguments. Who cares if I believe God is real? What does that change about your life? Literally nothing. Sad to say a very common story for those involved in the mvd, or those who lived in Berlin in general. Thousands were seperated from their families and lovers, and given the scarce methods of communication, some were never reunited. Fucking grand story-telling guys. I love you.

The use of anthropomorphic animals in Rare Americans' music videos is always interesting.
In both Berlin and Ryan & Dave, it allows the main characters to stand out, keeping the focus on them.
In Cats, Dogs, & Rats, it helps to highlight the tribalistic nature of conflict between different groups, the differences in power and whatnot.
In Milkman, the characters turning into animals represents the their newly gained 'freedom' from the human world they have grown disillusioned to.
Brittle Bones Nicky is based on a real person, so the lack of animal people makes sense.
As for Hullabaloo, I honestly just think they needed another word that rhymed with 'renovations'.
I hope people don't think this is furry shit, or else I'll have to beat the absolute shit out of them it's tough

And for the main comment, I always thought of "doberman dalmations" as a reference to the two breeds being used heavily in law enforcement and fire fighting, at least being the mascots of the two. Tying the song's beginnings back to an enforcement that the people being sung to are used similarly, dogs in a gov. Job

I don't think there's a movie, but the guys who do the animated music videos are the guys who did "Gary and His Demons." It's a solid show, I recommend you give it a watch!

Heres what I think:
When alfred and those other two guys visit the cinema room to see what happened, the video might have been a look into a previous life that Alfred lived before he passed away and started a new one in this world right now. And when it comes down to the film itself, its explaining that Alfred loved someone in that past life, only to be stalked and forced into what looks like a war. (Based on the uniform they make him put on) And the girl was also destined to be put in that war too. So, Alfred tried his hardest to get her out of the area before she got drafted as well. (Which explains why they still aren't together when he gets older and why hes trying to look for her by searching her up. Same goes for the girl.) So that might be what this about, by showing just how sad Alfred's other life was compared to the one hes living right now.

Loved your analysis, but one thing to consider, is that the story takes part in 1980 in berlin
So I thiiiiink that DDR and BRD are involved in this story, which would explain the fake passport he bought for her
On the other side - I do have a hard time understanding why he wears that uniform later
If she was from DDR, she wouldn't have been able to travel to west berlin, but if she was from BRD she wouldn't need the passport
May I have forgotten something from my history lessons back in school...

2/5 Stars (I'm sorry, but not enough pages)
ok, so my best guesses so far..... at the beginning they are in the USSR controlled East Berlin/Germany, Anna Berlin arrives in Berlin in 1980 to meet Alfred. They fall in love, or at least have a trist, and he makes up a plan for them to escape to West Germany. But he gets caught while getting her a fake German passport, probably to allow her to get across the Berlin wall with some sort of mark. He is beat up by the two Russians and makes it back to be able to watch her leave without him. Lo and behold, the two Russians are there and give him a uniform and salute him. So likely he was an officer of some sort that he was going to try to help her and himself escape to West Berlin. Then years later he starts to write her a letter, one of many, and starts by saying "I'm Sorry," but never finishes it, while she is also looking him up on some Russian website.... Either that, Or they were on the Side of West Berlin already and because she was form Budapest and not Germany, she could visit West Berlin, but wanted to escape from the USSR's control. Alfred was caught wile trying to get her a German passport so she could stay in west Berlin, so she had to return in order to not be arrested and stay safe. He was a member of some policing organization of West Germany, and was unable to help after he got caught and had to watch her return to East Germany or Budapest. He was writing her to apologize for not being able to get her out...... those are my two theories.

I thought the hullabaloo horse was Alfred but we never get a name. This horse is confirmed to be Alfred though. If he did raid the factory it would be is the 90s / 2000s.

The transitions between him and the skeleton, why the skeleton is there at all, "Brittle Bones" and hell, even the grave at the beginning says Nicolas, as the skeleton comes out of it. I would kill for a sequel where they find each other.

Then again I'm a sucker for happy endings.
I enjoy the fact it didn’t have a happy ending.
Cus so many things have a happy ending in stories and media and it’s tiresome and boring.
So when something has an emotional and yet bad ending it makes it feel so much more grounded in reality and real, cus it didn’t have a artificial like ending, since not everything irl has a good ending, that’s my thoughts and philosophy about it and why I think a bitter sweet ending hits the hardest.
But that’s just my opinion and is not a fact and therefore I respect that you may have different opinions to mine since it’s just preferences

Great song and animation, I'm guessing that the dude on the left in the beginning is James from Hullabaloo and the horse is also from Hullabaloo (The one who helped him escape) since they look like them and the bottom right of the screen even said "Crooked city" like the door leading to the outside said in Hullabaloo. The portal sort of thing when they jump through also looks to be similar. I'm guessing this is what they meant when Hullabaloo said to be continued. Hope this band gets more viewers and fans! Also I'm guessing the guy on the right in the beginning is Lubo he looks great!
The horse’s name is Alfred who is basically the Rare Americans mascot, but I’m surprised that they gave a mascot backstory

I’m so amazed how rare Americans are making good music this quickly. No seriously, they real see hullabaloo about two weeks ago, they made a song for a Scoob movie then they released this masterpiece. Outstanding work.

Okay, this is my theory on what’s happening. It’s far from perfect, but here goes (it’s long, i’m sorry)
*Location: West Berlin (The hotel is located on Bernauer street, which was in the French part of Berlin, and the passport Alfred gets has translations for German, English, and French. Plus, Anna came in from Budapest, meaning she can come and go)
**The 2 Men: They constantly trail Alfred and Anna, and beat him up, yet give him a coat and hat. I think they all work for the Stasi (East German Security Force) or are Russian spies. That might explain why he is searching for Anna in a Russian search bar (Plus only diplomats and officials would be able to cross the Berlin Wall, which explains why they are seen driving towards it)
***Reason: Anna's fake passport would be needed, historically, if she wanted to leave Germany and go to a different country.
The storyline
Alfred tried to defect from the Stasi/Russian spy network after meeting Anna. She makes it to Berlin, but so have agents sent after Alfred. Alfred plans to help Anna leave Berlin or Germany in general. Alfred gets the passport but gets caught in the process. He’s beat up, but he gets the passport to Anna. She wonders where he is but is forced to leave without him. Alfred gets taken back by the 2 men and ponders over what happened to her.
But I don’t know why the men would just let Anna escape. My only guess is that Alfred agreed to come back if they let her leave. This could reinforce the fact that Alfred could be a high ranked official.
Also, the only explanation for why Anna looks up Alfred in Russian would be because she went back home after the fall of the USSR

So the last part takes place in 2020 I assume. So he had to raid the hullabaloo factory in the 90s or early 2000s. Meaning in the timeline it's plausible. Also his hair color changed from Orange to white from beginning to end. But we know Alfred hair, at some point, was brown. The horse is hullabaloo has brown hair and I think is confirmed Alfred. But why the change in style, maybe drugs, maybe some other reason.
@@europaaugust9598 Theres two Alfreds, which means that either Alfred the Younger is just a family member with a similar name, or Anna Berlins child.
Plus, the two Alfreds are not the same person. The one we see in the beginning is not the Alfred we see in the 1980s. The Younger Alfred has a goatee, the older Alfred does not.

It really does hurt when Alfred has to let Anna go that we get to see him basically die inside. His face doesn't change from the reflection of the car window to when he is sat in his office at the current time. Makes me wish they would find each other one day even if they were now too old for any great length of time together.

Berlin Theory: This music video is actually about Alfred's father and his mum. Reason I believe this is mostly due to the fact that Alfred Senior has different hair and nose diamond colour at the train station compared to Crooked City.
So what I believe what has happened is that Alfred Senior and Anna Berlin meet up and fall in love, and decide to do the deed one night, with Anna getting pregnant. Alfred and Anna decide to flee to West Berlin to raise their future child but the East Berlin secret police, or army, find out that Alfred is trying to flee, and not wanting to lose an army officer, they prevent him from leaving East Berlin, but allow Anna to leave, or she is stopped while trying to cross the border. Anna ends up having Alfred Junior and now is trying to look for his father while on a trip to Russia, hoping that Alfred Senior is there.

I love this song, and can't get enough. From the melancholic vocals, to the open ended story that leaves me wanting more. I want to see more of this story, and the fact it ends on such an empty note just makes my heart burn with want I haven't felt in a very long time.
