"I could beat this guy up," Pete Steele was like 6'7 and built like a monster, I doubt it.
THANK YOU.
6'8 and he was JACKED.
I was thinking the exact same thing. Pete would have mopped the floor with him.
fr he was like 7 feet and 250 pounds of muscle. either way TON/Peter Steele's lyrics were tongue in cheek aka not to be taken seriously.
also he obviously he struggled with his faith, God, religion, drugs, lust, love, women.
Peter would've beat the sh*t out of this dude 🤣
“I can beat this guy up” wow, your insecurities are showing, but Pete had that effect on some people.
He could see that, his girl were getting seduced by Steeles sexy voice and storytelling, through great music.
Dude's jealous of a dead guy. Can't blame him. We all know who his girl pretends he is when they're in the dark 😆😆
Not in his dreams. Pete would crush guys like Vinn with one arm. Especially when he recorded this song. You. dont mess with a 2.03 m. pile of muscle of slavic-icelandic ascendence.I ve seen Pete carrying folks like Vinn on his arms, over the shoulder, as if they were babies.
@@MannaMusicOfficial you can TELL throughout the video that she's being...affected 😂 although I can't say I blame her
You guys take their comments seriously. Like pete said, anyone who has a opinion will be hated by everyone.
actually the line "Jesus Christ Looks like me" was generated by accident when some dude said to Peter Steele on the street "Hey, you look like Jesus Christ" and Peter responded "no, Jesus Christ Looks like me".
What about that is accidental?
@@akephalos2415 Maybe I did not used the fitting words...as I'm not a native speaker, my range of words is limited. What I meant, is, that the phrase was not built during a "normal" song writing process but was a quick-witted answer initiated by the accidental words of a stranger.
Very true!
I mean the paintings of Jesus that are white do look like him. Because they do not look like Christ...he wasn't white.
@@ChupaCabraThing true. Being born in what is now the middle east, he would of had darker skin from desert climate/sun.
I love how uncomfortable this song makes them. It's humourous to watch
Spot on, sir.
DESERVED
Roid rage?
This song makes me feel horny XD.
Hell yeah! 😈
Rule no.1 for listening to Type O, never take it seriously.. ever. Peter Steele (RIP) was brilliant, and hilarious. The great majority of their songs were written as either tongue and cheek, or as satire.
Exactly
bes comment here
Agreed
Agreed (for songs like I Don't Wanna Be Me, Black No. 1 etc.), but IMO this is not one of their songs that fit your "great majority" scenario.
I believe he didn’t find Jesus until later in life as in the year or so before his death. He was 48 and all of a sudden thinking about his mortality.
"I can beat this guy up"
>6'8"
>Buff New Yorker
Oof
Awesome video guys! Pete would of used this bloke as a chew toy 🤣 R.I.P Bro, Pete died as a saved Christian
Wasn't he about 265 lbs of solid muscle? He said something about being that tall and that weight, so not many people messed with him when he was sent to Rikers Island.
@@richardatkinson3410 Catholic* but close enough.
Even sick Peter would ultra violate Vin.
@@SalandFindles Yeah, later in life Peter dropped the ball a bit fitness wise, but in his prime the dude was massive.
Why do you say " This guy looks like Dracula i could beat this guy up?" Seems self serving, your ego. Reality, you couldn't touch the green man. He was way more intelligent than you're aware. Also, most of their songs are satire. I love that their music is still triggering souls in 2019, long after his death.
He was also 6'8" and did weight lifting as insanely as he did... Other things.
@@n0ts0B9 and martial arts
Ikrr.
Type negative suck go listhen to some Canibal Corpse
@@Dosemen English, Do You Speak IT?!
" I could beat him up " Hahaha yeah right , Steele would wipe the floor with you mate. You'll should look up a picture of him.
Gotta agree with that. Pete was a HUGE man... yep. We ALL are miniatures to him.
@@KastleKrossface - agreed, after all we are talking about a man who used to have a "standing double base" hanging from a chain around his neck and playing it like it was a normal base (until he got back problems from it ) ..
@@JudaZuk_ I always loved that. One of the coolest visuals. The video for Black No. 1 is so delightfully creepy.
It's not that serious mate.
Peter would make him run by looking at him.
I just wanna say I've hung out with Type O Negative twice. They were some of the sweetest funniest people I've ever met and I'm very thankful for their music and the hard times they got me through. R.I.P. Peter Steele.
They were unique, I haven't found any other band that I'm so deep in. R.I.P
Belladona Poi I agree, I will always be a life long fan.
One of the few late musicians who I really mourn. Such a talented man. I saw them play once and I wish i could have again.
that's the real REAL truth. He had a heart of gold, and even he didn't take himself seriously. I can relate to Peter Steele's mind more tha just about any other man on this earth. And by the way, just so you know, he was a devout Christian.
BTW Peter Steele was a 6 foot 8 buff monster. He wasn't some skinny guy like you said in the video.
exactly - Pete looked like Conan the Barbarian more than Robert Smith
yeh Pete was somewhat inimidating.
And what image do most churches have of jesus? oh .... right a giant ripped white dude with long hair. Fuck, Pete was a damn beast.
97warlock ismyname "somewhat"
Yea 6'8 and easily what 250lbs or more? This guy would look like a little wimp beside him haha
I got to meet Peter Steel in person. I told him I flashed my Breast for him. So then he tells me that a lady should not do things like that. He also broke into my car and saved me money on a locksmith. Cause forgetful me lock the keys in the car. I thought he was very nice to me. Gentleman like. Love Type O Negative. RIP Peter Steel. Please breakdown Black no. 1. My favorite song. I have many but that song stands out to me.
Wow, huge Typo fan. I am a Christian, thought it brought up good conversation that isn't usually talked about. I liked there break down.
Holy crap you never hear story like this everyday when i saw comment i was like this is cool as hell and he was an amazing person even though the lyrics weren't sounding great but he was an amazing person
Steele not steel
I met Peter before a show at Nassau Coliseum in the 90’s. One of the nicest guys I’ve ever met. Hung with us and drank a beer with us before the show. Came across as just a normal dude. To the point where none of us even asked for an autograph. RIP Peter. You are missed.
This is wild like "Peter Steele broke into my car and told me to be a lady" that's fuckin rad man I'm jealous 😂
Jesus Christ Looks Like Me = We Are Created In His Image. Easy.
More like the other way around (Go/Jesus created in man's image - cos man is an ego-driven narcissistic being), but yeah.
We were created in the image of God, so man came first, then Jesus, who was made to look like us. Hence, "Jesus looks like ME", not "I look like Jesus".
nailed it!
@Adam Christian Smith Yes.
@@hulkslayer626 Jesus is/was God in the flesh. So we are/were created in his image. It’s always HIM before us!! Blackie Nuff had it right.
Peter Steele was a very large man in lost of ways. Almost 7 foot tall. He had an incredible sense of humor. Brought up Catholic and very well read. He was a better bass player and songwriter than he ever gave himself credit for. Eventually his big heart gave out. He had a previous addiction to Methamphetamines but had been away from it for several years. Doctors say his heart attack may have been caused by pain medication he was prescribed. He died in much the same way Prince did.
Rest In Peace to Peter Steele. Bass player, Primary vocalist and Songwriter of Type-O Negative

Reacting to some of your insightful commentary, I attended a church with a friend an the Minister looked exactly like a stereotypical televangelist. There was little doubt that he had convictions in his beliefs. About halfway through his sermon, after a cool song, he returns to his favorite spot (center stage) and proclaimed "Blondes in mini-skirts are Tools of the Devil!". I could barely contain my laughter. His blonde wife (who was wearing a long dress) had a look of shock on her face and as I looked around the pews other women there had similar looks and the guys were looking around like "uh, oh!", I could contain myself no longer. I walked out with my hands on my face trying to contain my laughter. I never went back and my friend stopped going there within the year.
He wasn't addicted meth ffs... He was a chronic alcoholic and coke addict. And I have no idea where you got that his death was caused by pain medication. It was caused by the hard lifestyle he lived, and how big he was probably played a factor as well.
Coke and alchohol, not meth. Didnt die because of pain meds, but an aorthic aneurism. Could have been because of the coke or he could have been born with it. He was clean when he died.
I was a Type O fan, still am. I never painted my face. I wasnt depressed. Tell Sori he posed for Playgirl back in the day. Lol
I love this album and it's a classic, but October Rust is their best work
Rest in peace. Peter Steele
Adolf Hogg I agree man October Rust is awesome
I'm always conflicted choosing a best album. Bloody Kisses was my introduction so its my favourite but October Rust is so damn good that when I listen to it, it then becomes my favourite and so does World Coming Down. Whichever one I'm listening to at the time is my favourite.
George Flaxman I'll go ahead and answer that question for you. October Rust is your favorite album. You always fall back on that album as said in your comment. I'm being cheeky. LOL
I'm listening to it now. At this moment in time its my favourite :) but when I get around to Bloody Kisses or World Coming Down. Its all good man. They were an awesome band all around. Each of those 3 albums just provides an atmosphere for me that takes me on a journey. The other albums as good as they are tend to more a collection of songs. These ones are works as art as a whole piece.
George Flaxman totally agree. I'm even a fan of the earlier work. Back when they were more punkish. The origins of feces
As someone whom DJ'd at a Goth Club you are very, very wrong about Goths.
I'm goth/grunge and I don't paint my face pale.He wasn't skinny, he was 7 foot tall, and not all goth people are depressed we are misunderstood. And actually I met more depressed preppy people then goths.Peter was a musical genius and his music will always be remembered. Type O Negative is now and will forever be my favorite band.R.I.P Peter ♡♡♡
I don't think you guys "get it". Type O is an amazing band and Peter was a greatly under appreciated artist. He was truly a tortured soul that struggled with his faith, God, drugs, lust, women the whole bit. He wrote about it, humorously and seriously. His voice was so powerful and sometimes chilling. Peter's music and lyrics had the amazing ability to take you out of the place you were in whether it was traffic, a crappy day at the office, a break-up, whatever and put you somewhere completely different. This place was usually dark and not of this world. What an amazing gift! Understand some people embrace the darkness that is given them and your so called "vampire" guy was one of them.
From the panes a green mist swirls
Is it a shadow of reflection?
This apparition in moon beams bathed
A voice like wind through trees beckons
Cool rain on hot summer stone
The odor fills my presence
Of freshly dug grave and death and night
These things are her essence
Nocturnal mistress, spirit lover
Your mouth of wine and wooksmoke taste
My goddess of the violet twilight
You are lust incarnate
In the sweat of my bed
The eastern sky hints of dawning
Alone and awake but exhausted I lie
Oh how I hate the morning
I hate the morning....light
~Peter Steele, Haunted
AND I forgot to mention the guy was DROP DEAD GORGEOUS!!!!!
Another type o song is coming soon.
Denise Leon No one totally gets Type O the first time, not usually. I think they did pretty well for a first time exposure.
Whenever I listen to TON, I feel like I'm in another world. A dark, gothic world that is somehow calm and soothing.
I think we have to accept if you listen to this song without knowing anything about the band, about Peter Steele, then if you are Christian you are going to have a reaction just like this. It takes a little bit more lateral thought to look deeper before feeling faith is being insulted or worse. It is not a sacrilegious song - but I can understand that on face value without looking further someone could take it that way -
I love Type O Negative! Definitely a type of metal that infused elements of punk, and post punk goth. Nowadays, it's considered gothic metal. I wouldn't say industrial, like Fear Factory would be. Peter Steele's (RIP) lyrical ability was on it's own level, and you did a good job picking that up. His way of playing with words was just genius. His bass guitar tone was completely unique as well. In an interview during the 90's, Peter Steele stated he got the idea for the song from a number of women who had mentioned to him that they thought Jesus Christ "was a babe". At the same yes, I do believe he puts himself in that light, because he was an extremely attractive guy (even posed in Playgirl) in his prime, and he got to know a lot of groupies. Type O Negative had a lot of deeply erotic music in many different senses. "Love You to Death" is my favorite love song. They had many songs that really got me through a lot of tough times, because they were willing to delve deep into how a person feels, but being a man, acknowledging your feelings can be a taboo. Especially if you were nursing a broken heart, or dealing with the death of a loved one. Their music is intelligently written with multiple parts, and each one telling a whole story.
At the same time, they were also a very sarcastic band that would be the first to poke fun at themselves, and write overly ridiculous songs as well. They had a song that was called "Kill All the White People," yet they were clearly white. They did a fake live album that had "audience members" booing and screaming "You Suck" in between songs. "Black No. 1" was specifically poking fun at the Gothic subculture and those who took it WAY too seriously. They covered a song that was about a botched sex change. They'd also refer to themselves as "The Drab Four," which is an obvious play at both themselves and The Beatles. Type O Negative was a band you had to take with a pound or twelve of salt, and not read too much into.
As for religion, during the 90s, Peter Steele was an atheist who grew up in an extremely strict Roman Catholic household. As we all know, extremely strict situations tend to lead to extreme rebellion. Shortly before his death in 2010, he had converted back. This band made me laugh, cry, smile, and think all at the same time, and there will never be another Peter Steele.
That last line so perfectly encapsulates my feelings on the band. They helped me see so much beauty in nature as well as humanity. My absolute favorite band through my high school years. When I listen to them now, it makes me feel like it's a spring day just after a rain storm. No other band gives me that.
You two are def making me very impatient to listen to another one ... soon
Black No. 1 was their biggest hit, but like Christian Woman, is their less serious side. Great song, but for more deep meaningful music by them, check out these.
Love You to Death
September Sun
Green Man
World Coming Down
The Dream is Dead
Everything Dies
Everyone I Love is Dead
Die With Me
These are the songs that really got me through some rough times by forcing me to face what I was feeling head on.
I recommend "life is killing me" or "pyretta blaze" or "how could she" if you want to hear their later songs, for early songs I would say "gravity" or "in praise of Bacchus" or "black no 1"
Logan of the songs you mentioned I have a soft spot for "September Sun". Maybe because its, for me, the best song off their best album.
As for their less serious side need to to add the name of that fake live album, "The Origin of Feces", and its "pleasant" cover art.
"I can beat this guy up" okay you can beat up a guy who was nearly 7"ft tall weigh close to 300 lb of raw muscle yeah good luck with that bro it's easy to say something sitting behind a camera in the privacy of your own home it's another to do it to their face. Furthermore didn't your mother teach you not to speak ill of the Dead?
I don't mind the conversation after the song, but I think it's in poor taste to make fun of Goths or people who enjoy looking spooky. You guys should be better than that.
Point taken. I wasn’t making fun as much as explaining my experience. But I could def see how a person could see it that way. Legit brave of you to call it out
By the way, not all Goths are depressed. you might be thinking of emos. I'm a goth boy and I'm fairly happy.
Not all emos are depressed either. Just because you are involved in some kind of subculture you don't have to be depressed. We just seem to like and be drawn to dark and ''weird'' stuff :)
Hanna you're right, didn't mean to offend and I do apologize but yeah I completely agree.
Fairly ?
It is not that we are depressed, we carry pain. Also, goths and emos are 2 very different people.
Eh..."I don't want to be me" was a fairly depressive song lol. That said, Peter always came across as a very confident guy. I mean, no one poses for playgirl without being confident.
The singer Peter Steele(RIP) he was very Intelligent, but was also a tortured soul,he himself was trying find salvationType O is a brilliant band
Basically dark humor Metal,great job
Guys🤘👍
Also a mistake to picture Peter Steele as a skinny goth kid... He was like 6'6" and seriously into weight training. Also a very funny guy and is very missed.
Peter Steele was Atheist for some time before converting to Roman Catholicism in the last years of his life, in fact the album Dead Again features some of his Catholic views.
The had a best of album called "The Least Worst Of Type O Negative" and they sold shirts with "4 Dicks From Brooklyn" on it. They didn't take themselves anywhere near as seriously as most of their fans did.
I think Peter was raised catholic but rebelled. He came back to Christ in the last year of his life and tried to atone for his past drug addiction. My favorite band of all time! Hard to believe Peter died almost ten years ago.
Benjamin Garringer Peter Steele was 6'9"
this dudes favorite band is hootie and the blowfish.
lol jokes, I'm glad you were able to pick out the double entendre right away.
Lol great sense of humor !
Like your video, save for where you do the satanist promotion. Pretending to an acceptable option and not speaking straight out against such vile blasphemous practice of worshipping the enemy of God. Missed opportunity and an oversight, skinny. This being said, wasn’t Goth, but was huge fan of O-, Peter’s talent as a musician, lyricist, and composer simply phenomenal. He was depicting the reality of our fallen culture, not representing himself, anymore than as an arch type. He was simply too deep to remain in any one of those particularly, but this is the one which spells success in the industry. He brings attention to the spiritual ramifications and complexities of today’s sexuality, brilliant mind, the music without even words stands alone, but the voice could say anything and my ears would itch to hear. God died for him too. Confident we will see him in Paradise.
LoL
I think this fav band is Stryper¡¡¡ jajaja...
"Don't mistake lack of talent for genius"
Peter Steele was raised Catholic and a lot of his songs were about struggles with faith and the inherent contradictions of that faith. This is one of those songs. I feel like your initial assessment of Type O before you listened to them was tempered with a bit of a confirmation bias when you listened to this track. They are not a "depressed" band, though may of their songs have that element, it's usually tempered with a bit of tongue-in-cheek humor as well. Watch the video for "I Dn't Wanna Be Me."
Also, the "Jesus Christ looks like me" lyric is basically an allusion to the idea that there is god in all of us and that her crisis of faith is more about the feeling of elation that people see they feel from religion and equating it to sex. The pleasure of sex and the pleasure that many claim to derive from religion are one and the same to this woman in her time of crisis/desire.
Also, Peter Steele died in 2010.
Very possible... give me another track !
That is a very interesting interpretation which would explain why there is such a close relationship between sexuality and religious rituals in a lot of religions (temple prodtititess... etc)
I would suggest "My Girlfriend's Girlfriend" or "I Don't Wanna Be Me" or "In Praise of Bacchus." They have so many tracks that deal with so many other things. "Unsuccessfully Coping With the Natural Beauty of Infidelity" is another great track, but one that is a hard listen. "Be My Druidess" or "Black No. 1"...it's hard to pick one.
"I can bet this guy up" yeah say that to him peter steel the green man an almost 7 foot gaint with a voice that can bend steel. RIP he will be messed. And BTW I'm Goth and I don't paint my face XD
The beast inside of Steele is gonna get you...
Very possible ...,
I love naive youths.
Peter had the voice of beast....and the knees of 12 yr old child. Size dont matter
Peter Steele would hit him over the head with that massive dong he had and give him a concussion lol! But yeah, he was a beast of a man, not some small, scrawny little "dracula" guy.
Pretty sure you couldn't beat up Peter Steele. Dude was so big he would strap an upright bass to him like a guitar and it didn't look disproportionate.
RESPECT PETER STEEL you should feel privileged you had the chance of hear his work. RIP
Sori reacts to Peters play girl spread lol.
lol good one
That would break the internet at my house
🤣🤣🤣
I always thought of the song as the inner struggle of the woman...the pull of her faith, against that of the flesh. She see's him as her "God" or "savior" figure, but I don't think that he puts himself in that role. The one line that leads me to think this is, ironically, the very opening where you were like "I knew it...dracula voice" where the singer starts with "Forgive her, for she knows not what she does..." This leads me to think that this song is solely about her struggle, and not himself forcing himself into that role.
i fully agree....this dude is way off on his analysis.....and his judgmental opinions are themselves self serving. I'm actually pissed that he got it so wrong. But you said it better than I could. thank you for that.
Actually he was singing about one of his ex girlfriends. she was a catholic and had this inner struggle with her sexual needs and what is appropiate in her religion
And Peter just ironically states at the end of the song that it is okay for her to let her sexually desire out, because he looks like jesus
Very astute and articulate observation. I honestly didn’t know how to handle this song with my faith in Jesus. 9.99 times out of 10 when a artist outside of the Gospel genre takes on the subject of religion, it’s usually not going to be flattering at all. However, what Peter is writing about through his experience with this ex girlfriend is not wrong. We are sinners and sin separates us from God. From what I gathered in the song is that she looked at him as her “savior” for unleashing her sexual desires. So, the line “Jesus looks like me” has a double meaning in that sense but also that mankind was created in the image of God/Jesus.
So, that’s my interpretation of the song. But, you are right in your analysis Bryan!! 😊
People who critique these days do so on a song - without knowing too much more - Pete for example being bass baritone - his voice could rumble - in a mic with that sort of intimacy - it isn't doing 'Dracula' at all. Unfortunately, Pete did not have creative control over the clip - he speaks about it in an interview you can find here - Roadrunner did not serve them well. And I agree with your interpretation of the song. She is struggling with her natural urges.
"Jesus Christ looks like me" is also a bit of a double entrendre; back up vocalist Josh Silver is Jewish.
Then again, the majority of Jews view Christ as just another prophet rather than the Son of God.
"I could beat this guy up" well he's dead so probably
I remember seeing them at Ozzfest. Peter Steele, a giant of a man who resembled Lurch's long haired musclebound cousin with a dark mischievous sense of humor, in his deep booming voice starts their set with "we are Type O Negative...and if you think we suck, too bad..." Loved these guys. RIP Peter, you are missed.
Sad to say that was my one and only time I got to see Typo O was in the OZZFEST tour 1997 \,,,/ O Negative Forever!!!
Peter Steele was actually Christian later on in their career, he was a good example of never taking himself too seriously.
He was always Catholic, he just re-found his faith after a life crisis.
Based
And that's the reason he died young
HUMANS ARE SHIT 1998 I LOVE YOU
"I don't know much about Type O Negative "
Proceeds to describe way thier songs are written .
Hahaha those lyrics are offending AF and I can clearly see that on their faces....😅😅🔥
Peter Steele - brilliant in the art of satire
Very, lol
I'm 35 minutes into the video and you guys haven't talked about the music. Nothing about what you thought about his voice the melodies or instrumentals at all. Might have just as well just read the lyrics without the music. Maybe you eventually get to talking about the music but If you do maybe sooner would be better as it would be fresher in your minds.
THANK YOU!!! Peter Steele was ahead of his time! Stop with the church service and get on with the real deal!! I LOVE T.O.N always have. He was NOT a depressed messed up goth. He was a lyrical GOD!!!!
The video is called Christians react to type o negative lol. They're talking about the religious aspect of this song so I don't really think they're straying far from the title of the video lol
They seem uncomfortable with the sexual symbolism. Lol watch the womans face, she likes it but is sexually repressed by her beliefs.
@@debrawilliams1287 I think you're right. Sori sounds like she's too conservative to truly understand the double meanings here. I suspect she grew up not being allowed to feel and embrace her sexuality and her urges, etc., so the idea that someone would write about tempting a Christian girl/woman by using religious imagery and that she would attach a Christ-like obsession to the man in question (Sori admits this in the discussion) is both familiar but 'verboten' to her, and it bothers her (Sori).
I love this song, and also a Christian. I can relate to this song in a way. You guys really nailed it.
Thanks!
Hahahaha at 7:50 when he looks back to see if he hears birds!!! LMAO im dying RIP Green Man! RIP to all of the fallen!
Lol!!
It's worth mentioning that Peter Steele (singer of the band) was raised Catholic, and even died a Christian.
Really ?
Ya a few ppl have said that! That’s great!! -Sori ✌🏻

Type O Negative is the best
Plain and simple just the way we like it.
Next song: "Closer" by Nine Inch Nails.
oh yeah thatd go well
Just remember, before thinking too deeply, they put a disclaimer on the album that said... Do not mistake lack of talent for genius.
I hate myself every day for not seeing them. A truly unique and incredible band. RIP Peter
bigyodatheman
Your not the only one
Definitely one of my biggest regrets.
I gotta defend that "Her soul done medium well" line. Cheesy? Yes. But Type O always balanced brilliant lyrics with humour and tongue in cheek topics. If you asked Peter who his favorite comedian was, im sure he'd answer with a low booming voice, "GOD"!!
Toward the end of his life he converted back into Catholicism and it definitely showed in his lyrics...like These Three Things and Profits of Doom on their last album, Dead Again.
You guys just reminded me that Type O is one of my all time fav bands. Peter Steele was a genius. No kidding RIP
You rule, Vin n Sori!! Keep it poppin!
Thanks man!!
Animal Will Opus Exactly, that is precisely what Peter Steele said about TON. He said their music was dark but that they were able to make fun of themselves and never took themselves too seriously.
I love that lyric. So dorky, yet witty as hell. I love Peter Steele's sense of humor.
Many of Peter’s lyrics are tongue n cheek. They are very witty and deep. I agree you should check out the Dead Again album, specifically These Three Things which is heavy on the Christian themes and Tripping A Blind Man which is about when his sisters did a drug intervention with him on Christmas Eve and had him committed.
Best gothic doom metal band of all time, and also my favorite band of all time, author of my favorite song of all time! xD
Nice vid!
karnivore was better
but i fucks with sum type o here n there too
can never doubt this songs tripyness
"Like Dracula cot a depression and started a band"
Best description ever of Type O Negative, blood included.
Type O Negative are one of my top 10 all time favorite bands, truly legendary, Peter Steele was an absolute genius songwriter, hope you guys give them more time, I would recomend "Anesthesia" by them
I did recognize his writing was clever .. what’s essential type o song wise ?
Essentials would be "Love you to death" "In praise of Bachus" "Everything Dies" "Anesthesia" "Bloody Kisses" and "September Sun" are my favorites
VinAnd Sori Nettie is a song he wrote about his mother.
VinAnd Sori Gravitational Constant.
Summer Breeze and Wolf Moon are some real good ones too, please at least put them on the list.
I remember Pete when he was a NYC garbage man, R.I.P brother....Duffs Brooklynn!!
Whattttt?!?! No way 😂
And he liked the job. He said that if the band didn’t work out he’d be perfectly happy going back to work for the city. It was hard work for great pay.
Duff's!!!
I see people read the book...lol
Its ART.
Its METAPHOR.
It's not literal.
I REALLY LOVE YOU TWO FOR DOING THESE VIDEOS. Especially considering your respective backgrounds, faith, and beliefs. As one that considers himself a Christian (post evangelical/post fundamentalist), and a longtime fan of Type O (1990s-present), I respect your deconstruction of the piece, interpretation, and willingness to listen and be as open minded as possible. I love that you do this with such humility and gentleness. I cannot say enough about how grateful and encouraged I am by your approach. Thank you!!
I'm actually pleasently surprised that you guys didn't just attack the song right away, in a quoting the Bible/preaching type of way. I found this video through my news feed on RUclips. Type O Negative has been my favorite band for 5 years, so I was very curious to see the reaction. I like that you guys sat and listened and thought before you spoke, because it gave you a chance to see the real reason for the song.
Type O Negative covered the song Black Sabbath (by Black Sabbath) but Peter Steele wrote different lyrics and made the song from the perspective of satan, you guys have to react to it
Salma check out Hey Pete. That was an amazing cover of Hey Joe
Fuck you, it's 1 am and I watched it and now I can't fall asleep. I can hear that laugh in my head over and over again. But it was pretty badass so thank you.
Lol apologies !
VinAnd Sori oh wow sorry I hope I didn't offend you guys I'm sorry. I really love your channel I just discovered it 2 days ago and I've watched like 20 of your videos. I really like how real you are. Your analyses are always superb and just really enjoyable to watch.
It’s All good
The vocalist Peter Steele (R.I.P.) was a giant but from what I’ve always heard, he was a jokester. In this song, the woman is full of sexual tension because as a Christian woman, her desires are seen as a sin. She’s pent up but her lust (desire between her thighs that due to her lack of sex, is driving her mad) has confused her and she actually starts to lust for Jesus. She begins to desire him. She knows she needs to ‘get some’ here on earth or she may continue to lust after Jesus and burn in hell for it. He’s the only man in her life. She’s confused. So, along comes Mr. Steele. He sees her plight and just lets her know, “ Hey, there’s no way you can have intercourse with a God. But I’m here and I’ll help you out. Let’s do it. And I’m the man for the job because if you think about it, Jesus looks like me so it’s probably as close as you’ll get.’
He probably would have said ‘i look like Jesus ‘ but rhythmically and melodically for what he wanted, that doesn’t really work for that piece of music.
If you’ve heard more Typo songs and heard about Peter Steele the man, it becomes apparent that he was snickering in his mind while he sang this. The band was definitely into shock value. They’re albums are full of funny, ironic lines along with the haunting, beautiful and cryptic lines. They were an important band in metal and their other songs have a lot to offer. They are worth listening to.
October Rust

My Girlfriend’s Girlfriend
Wolf Moon
Kill All The White People

Black No. 1

And on and on......check em out!
Whoa. Thanks for the info and suggestions!! -Sori✌🏻
The ‘medium well’ line shows his corny, funny side. I don’t think he wrote it and thought, ‘Yea, that’s brutal. It’s so heavy. It’s perfect. I’m a scholar.’ He was being goofy. Great video guys! Keep rippin’!
Ahhhh ok that would make more sense! -Sori✌🏻
He was funny. In another song, he sings, “My girlfriend’s girlfriend, she looks like me.” It’s a weird and funny line because if you think about it, does his girlfriend desire her girlfriend because she looks like him or does she hook up with him because he looks like her? This would be weird to contemplate in real life if one found themselves in that situation. It would screw with a guys ego. Either the girlfriend’s girlfriend looks really tough and manly or he looks feminine. That sucks to not know the reason why1
jason perez, no, he actually sings "... she looks like you"
BTW, there was a story about Peter growing a beard and people everywhere were saying something like "hey, you look like Jesus" and Peter was like "no, that's Jesus who looks like me", so that's how he came up with a line which later became the part of "Christian Woman" lyrics.
LMAO.... "Were those birds in the song?" That look was priceless..... You guys are hilarious, but thank you thank you thank you for playing the song in it's entirety without interrupting with your opinions.... Peter would've love your input... Maybe....
In April 2007, Steele revealed that he began identifying himself as Roman Catholic in recent years, after decades of self-professed atheism. In an interview with Decibel magazine, Steele explained:
"There are no atheists in foxholes, they say, and I was a foxhole atheist for a long time. But after going through a midlife crisis and having many things change very quickly, it made me realize my mortality. And when you start to think about death, you start to think about what's after it. And then you start hoping there is a God. For me, it's a frightening thought to go nowhere. I also can't believe that people like Stalin and Hitler are gonna go to the same place as Mother Teresa."
I've been a huge Type O fan since the 90's. This was probably the most thought out commentary/analysis of this song I have seen. You elaborated the topic/theme of the song and made it more accessible to a non-christian/catholic listener.
Speaking of non-christian, it would be super interesting to see you two react to Skyforger by Amorphis. (Or pretty much any song by that band - my current favorites include "Silent Waters", "House of Sleep", "Sacrifice" and "You I Need".) Greetings from Finland!
Greetings! We’re glad to have you !
Peter Steele in his last few years of becoming a clean man had reconciled with his Catholic past. There are several references to it on their last album Dead Again. He seemed like a tortured soul that could not cope with a lot of negativity in this world. Losing his parents and other loved ones had a massive impact on him. Songs such as Nettie (about his mother), Red Water, Todd's Ship Gods (about his father) were never even played live. I don't believe that there was any true evil in this extraordinary yet beautiful soul.
she's in her dirty mind like"damn i love peter steel"he is like"what does he mean?"in the first 4 min xD
I love that Peter was so lyrically beautiful. And also Peter would make you a chew toy 😋
Vin, nobody breaks down lyrics like you do. Peter Steele, the lead singer of Type O Negative. he was from New York and he was Catholic.
Whoa! Thank you
VinAnd Sori no, thank you mate. I love how you intelligently deconstruct and explain lyrics. It's my favorite part in all your videos. keep up the great work.
Truth. \,,/
Type O Still my fave band too this day
For me too, 22 years now 6)
Actually one of the most underrated bands ever. Wicked humor and really some melodic music mixed with the heavy stuff. People are always surprised when they listen.
Peter steele was an incredibly inspiring man 💙
you are very beautiful xoxoxo
I absolutely love Type o. (and I'm not a goth... I'm pure metalhead) And I love all their stuff but I feel kinda mad that you did this cause the best songs are the personal ones you should've checked "the profits of doom", "World Coming down" or "White Slavery"(Wich is about his cocain adiction and not about what you might have thought xD) Those super popular Goth songs are still really good but as a top notch fan I gotta say their best work is the more Doomier Style albums, Punkier/Thrashier Albums like "World coming down" or "Dead Again"
Type O Negative was always meant as a platform for the late Peter Steele (Lead vocals/bass) to express his emotions; what he called "sonic therapy." Dark, yes, but always relatable on some level. Vin, you mentioned the song "Everyone I Love is Dead," which Steele wrote after several of his family and friends had passed. Another great video, guys!
What’s a classic song by them
Black number 1, Life is killing me, Tripping a blind man is another good song. They have a ton of really good chill music lol
"Love You to Death" is an absolute classic, and is also a beautiful song in a strange way.
Black nr. 1 is probably the most known song
True, but that song has been covered to death. "Love You to Death" and most of the songs from "October Rust" are such a step above for Type O, that it blows "Black No. 1" away.
How these two could sit there all stone faced while listening to one of the most beautiful voices of all time is beyond me. RIP Lord Petrus Steele
Who would want this? I'll tell you who. - Millions of adoring fans, that's who! Including myself.
I legit was listening to Type O tonight after discovering your amazing channel and was soooo tempted to suggest this song. I was beaten to it :) Thanks guys for having such an open mind yet still sticking to your convictions. It's something rarely seen in the public eye.
Appreciate that !
According to an interview, the song is basically making fun of the notion that nuns are married to Christ. Peter had some issues with the more supernatural elements of Christianity, so he made light of it. The "medium well" line is most likely intentionally cringy, cuz Type O Negative has plenty of those tongue in cheek lines.
Also, the one thing you have to realize is that plenty of their songs are basically tongue in cheek. Sure, they may have something to say, but they also joke about the subject while doing so.
Also, yeah no interviews, mostly because he's dead and according to my knowledge he did become a Christian in his later years. So, reserve judgement maybe?
Great job as always.
False. The song is about a woman who lusts after Jesus. And Peter Steele is Jesus. The entire point of Type O is to make you scratch your head. You just happened to come across their song poking fun at christians, as they do many other topics. Peter Steele was a very kind and humble human.
I think this is the 4th video I've watched now and you seem to be pretty woke on Christianity. So I was raised in evangelical/pentecostal churches in the south and left the faith at 22. In my 30's I moved more into the occult and approaching 40 in a few weeks I now would call myself a Satanist. Interestingly enough I find myself at a crossroads where I have rediscovered Christianity through the lens of religion and mysticism rather than through insane fundamentalist literalism, and it's refreshing. At any rate, I say all of this to extend an invitation: If you have any questions about these bands and/or these topics, I'd be glad to answer them or direct you to good places to get ones I can't provide. It's a good thing, what you're doing. We need more people to be more self aware and also to be able to reasonably engage with "the other side" (whatever that may be) in good faith, and I'd be glad to help.
Type O Negative is all about tongue in cheek bullshittery. If you listen to them more you'll like them. Genres be damned, they might be the greatest American rock band ever. But certainly of my generation.
Appreciate that my man! We’ve got a podcast coming up soon, let’s brainstorm on subjects!
Absolutely. Is there a better social media site I can contact you on?
We’ll figure it out. What about twitter
I don't currently use it, but I can start one. Just something that would be easier to navigate than youtube, and I'll use my real name.
Peter Steele, the songwriter/ vocalist for type o was a very intelligent and troubled man. As a fan of the band i've always appreciated the brutal honesty in his songs. The conclusions you came to were great and made what i considered one of their simpelist songs deeper if not less... provocative. I hope you guys keep going strong.
Thank you !
Omg! He is a beautiful man, beautiful soul that sings a beautiful song! Not for everyone but I love Peter Steele! RIP
Peter Steele was a very intelligent person. But you also have to note that he would write songs to intentionally offend people. He believed that if rock music did not offend some people, then it wasn't rock'n roll. Also, he wasn't goth, his music is within the category of metal. Gothic Metal, Doom Metal... is still metal. Goth is separate from Metal.
That being said, I'm a goth, and I admire Peter Steele, but his music is not my cup of tea. I prefer The Cure, Bauhaus, and Sisters of Mercy. I also don't paint my face in public, unless I'm going out to a goth-centric event. And then when I do it's very minimal and simple (think Robert Smith). And another point, I'm also a christian who loves the Lord, Jesus. I'm also not living my life depressed or hating life or people around me. the whole stereotype of goths being depressed and being antisocial is just wrong. It needs to stop. People who are goth tend to be some of the most caring and sensitive people you could meet. Also, goths are not just teens. There are adults of all ages who are goth. It's not a phase.
The cure, Bauhaus and Sisters of mercy are post punk bands as well
Vin laying the Knowledge DOWN!! Well said you nailed it. I saw Type O live back in 94 I think with Pantera. Peter Steele the singer is a Enormous Man..I mean like almost 7 foot tall. It was one of the most chilling live bands I have seen. He Just stood front and center in his rock star stance head down just slammin on the bass and singing and growling into a low hung mic, never moving or looking up just his arms and fingers on the bass. It was just creepy af but soo cool at the same time. They were basically a nobody at the time. One of my favorite shows of all time. Pantera was off the chain as well but I will never forget that Type O performance.
Whoaaaaa I bet!! Creepy lol... I think it’s sexy as hell when Vin lays down the knowledge...so ya Vin!!! Keep it up!!! -Sori✌🏻
I saw them with coal chamber and mudvayne, awesome show
Man I bet!!!
Also Peter Steele is dead. He died a few yrs back of a heart attack due to drug use.
I saw them live once, Peter was chugging down a bottle of red wine during the performance. The wine bottle looked more like a small bottle of soda in his hands, lol
Type O Negative were the masters of self-parody and irony, they managed to talk about serious life issues through humor and satire, but at the same time carry the weight of gravity and honesty.
First time watching on of your videos.. very cool concept, will have to check more out. Huge Type O fan, you broke the lyrics down quite well.. Peter was a brilliant songwriter, quite sarcastic. But yeah dude, a healthy Peter Steele is probably the last dude you'd want to pick a fight with haha. Keep up the good work, y'all!
Thank you for the reaction, genuinely enjoy them.
I cat’t wait for Black No 1 reaction! Please check out also Everyone I Love Is Dead or Anesthesia!
Listed !
Peter Steele was brilliant and a hilarious interview as well.
Very insightful commentary . Thanks for putting this video up
I freaking love Type-O-Negative i seen them twice in Corpus Christi,TX the entire band signed my bloody kisses CD and yes i still have it😀👍
RIP Peter Steele
And after watching (wooo!) I have to say I love Type O and they're one of my favorite bands. Some suggestions for the next Type O song to react to: Wolf Moon, In Praise of Bacchus, The Prophet of Doom. I mean... I could go on and on and just post their whole library, but these three (off the top of my head) are lyrically interesting as well as some of those shock values that Peter Steele is known for thrown in. Thanks again for such an awesome channel, subscribed!
Sweettt!! Thanks for joining!! -Sori 🤘🏻
Respect you guys keeping an open mind and listening. Cheers.
This album brings tears to.my eyes. Just rhe melody and his voice. So amazing
"Love you to death",Type O Negative..It is beautiful..Type O are a very "Tongue and Cheek" band..They are the pioneers of self depreciation... I played the last show with them in Detroit before Peter Steele had passed..They have helped alot of people...Sonic Therapy..
I wonder how you guys would react to Depeach Mode "Blasphemous Rumors" The song is about a real life girl who tried to kill herself at 16. She lived through it. During that time she found the lord. Two years later she gets hit by a car and ends up on a life support machine. The mother decides to pull the plug. In the chorus the singer asks if god has a sick sense of humor for saving the girl from suicide and she found god after..only to be hit by a car and die two years later
Damn
Hey thanks for replying. Your guys are one of my fav reactors on youtube. There were a couple of times i thought Vin was gonna turn off the way he was looking lol. Nice to see you guys are very open minded.
I really appreciate your analysis on your videos. Sometimes it is easy to write off things as “offensive” but when you break things down, it makes for a very interesting conversation.
Peter was an extremely talented, intelligent beautiful man who is missed by many... Listening to his music is my way of remembering and honoring him...
Fave song?
Christian Woman, Be my Druidess, Cinnamon Girl, My Girlfriends Girlfriend, Love you to Death, Anesthesia, Die with Me just to name a few, loved of their covers of other bands songs as well. Makes me extremely sad to listen to his beautiful voice sometimes....Listen to Everything Dies it's beautiful.
September Sun is great also!
@@Paige3_ can't forget Creepy Green Light, Wolfmoon, I Don't Wanna Be Me.
Glad you're a TON fan!! Stay well out there xoxoxo
@@Sanguine_Addiction My son's favorite is I don't wanna be me!
Hey Vin...you guys should do a tour of Reaction content to ur favorite songs....take it to the stage or like a podcast format....you guys have excellent public speaking skills and ur funny while provocative in ur banter....I really enjoyed this one....I wanna listen to Type-O negative again now...much respect💪🤙
Appreciate that !
dean mastrantoni I think a pod cast would be great
Y’all should do Wolfmoon by them
Boogieman93
Muhahahahaha-ha
Awesome 👏🏻 video
If you ever go back to Type O, which I do believe you should, you need to try either "I don't wanna be me" or "Everything dies" - they both incorporate much of Pete's feeling and lyricism in a FAR better way their more edgy (for the lack of a better word) and erotic songs do.
They were and are a very polarising band but they really do have some stuff that's worth listening to that's much less controversial than this, "my girlfriend's girlfriend", "love you to death", etc, do. I suppose that's partly why you got recommended this song, plus it's arguably their most popular one, but still - they're not just a gimmick, I promise.
Everything Dies is amazing. Anesthesia as well.
You do realize Peter died in 2010
Type of negative was a very talented band and the singer Peter Steele rip his soul was probably one of the most talented writters I don't see the music as depressing I see the music as very uplifting and positive
Oh and he was definitely a lover, in the song he didn't talk about his feelings he talked about her feelings the singer did find Christianity later in his life before he passed
So let's break this down. The singer, Peter Steele (R.I.P.), was a true baritone. Hence the deep voice, he couldn't not do it, and it adds perfectly to the music. Dude was an ABSOLUTE genius. Dude was also 6ft +. Like 6ft6 or something like that. However, this is not their best song. Whoever suggested this song probably just wanted to get a reaction out of you. Their best known song is "black number 1"
Love the acoustic, bird section…so awesome!!
Yes!! You did the whole version of the song. Most people only listtn to the first part. Good job.
