Her therapist recommended against talking about it publicly. People already are pretty mean online just about that so I think her therapist was smart with that. People are ruthless behind their screens.
She went on the "High Low with EmRata" podcast last year and they brought it up. But yeah I think Maddie is really careful talking publicly about that subject.

I’m an extra curricular teacher. I have to repeat myself. Even if I had to repeat myself a hundred times, I would never yell at or belittle any of my students. I may have a conversation if a students’ behaviour is not serving their goals, but I always treat them with respect.
That's because you don't want to lose your job. This was a television show and producers wanted ratings. I don't know how many different ways Abby has to explain it to you but after the 100th interview talking about it, and if you still have a problem, then that's a YOU problem.
An extracurricular teacher is a little different than a coach who is trying to train children to be the best in the world at something lol. Comparing yourself to abby is like comparing yourself to a professional gymnastic or ice skating coach, coaching their students to go to the Olympics lol. This isn't just a little dance class. She's trying to make this their future. People act like abby is so bad and abusive and the worst ever. This is literally what sooo many kids that wana be professionals go thru in several sports. Not just dance. I really can't with you people.
Abby still hasn't learned the difference between being a tough person and being an abusive person. You can be tough in a way that's loving but strict. Insulting the kids and making fun of them, calling them stupid, making fun of a Childs eye, and so on is ABUSIVE. The way this woman never takes responsibility of her actions and for her words never fails to amaze me. "The kids that were cast on the show are not my best students" like the audacity is just crazy. I truly can't understand why she can't admit that she hurt those girls and just apologize, Abby has missed out on having a relationship with these girls because of her narcissistic ways and her pride. Christi was telling the truth about how Abby did not put the girls in the same level playing field, but Abby not being able to understand why Maddie doesn't talk to them is crazy. Although they treated her better than the other girls Abby hurt Maddie by always putting her against her friends, putting her friends against her, gaslighting her, and playing little mind games. Does she think that Maddie liked to see her friends hurt all the time.
This is ridiculous. Dance coaches at Abby's level, as well as professional coaches for gymnastics / ice skating for children who wana go to the Olympics can be even more intense than abby. It's literally what the parents are paying for, then complain about it.

she probably didn’t think it was abusive when her dad did it to her and it carried on into adulthood. Then on top of that the producers were encouraging the behavior so it was just reinforcing everything she already believed.
The yelling wasn’t the problem, it was the name calling, and nasty commentary you would do to the children. It’s one thing to fight with the moms, you are all adults. But you would drag the kids into things and that was ugly. To call Chloe a sneak, calling Paige stupid, making fun of children’s appearances, and so many other things. That’s why you have all the problems with the girls and they don’t want to talk to you.
It's what she learned as a kid. You saw what her dad called her. She thinks this is "normal". It's sad that she still hasn't figured out what abuse is at this stage in her life.
Fun fact: I went to UCLA with Nia 😊. Although, I never got the opportunity to talk to her, I did have a class w her our final quarter. She’s a very intelligent, thought provoking/ analytical student - so she definitely turned out great! Despite Abby’s lack of support.
I’m a former dancer, and I really wish Dance Moms didn’t become a thing. Dance Moms should’ve been about the kids’ talents, and not about emotional abuse at the hands of adults. This show may give people the wrong idea about what dance lessons really are. Real life is not what’s on a reality tv show.
Anyone who wants to be top of their field knows it takes someone being tough on you. No one taking a class for fun gets this treatment. Who would waste their breath on someone whose mediocre or not serious. You have to have talent.

The moms were complaining bc they put then up at a hotel that sounds disgusting... yah, I would be upset, too. Bed bugs, moldy carpet, bad food? How is that not worth complaining over? Bet Abby wasn't staying there. Christi talked about how disgusting and lude the hotels they had to stay at with their young daughters.

Honestly, I wish you would call it as it is. "pretty specific tactics" it's abuse. Abby Lee Miller was abusive to the children, so much so it took years for some of them to resolve their trauma. We don't need to uplift a person like that. That's like as if people still admired Shane Sparks after what he did (google it if you don't know).
What about the abuse by the mothers? What about the horrible divorces and quick relationships their parents jumped into during those divorces. Some of those girls were at dance all week because afterschool care ends at 6 but the dance studio doesnt close til 10! Cheap babysitting for moms who needed time to find rich hubby number 2 or 3 or run a private school or business. Abby was more of a parent to some of those girls than their own mothers. Also the situations lifetime put those girls through were abusive and terrible for even older children and teens. Abby ended up being the scapegoat for everything bad that ever happened to those girls. They will have to unpack all those lies they told one day. Hopefully they figure out how to be honest with themself before they make the same mistakes their mothers made.

I disagree that Maddie learned the dance faster cuz of extra rehearsal time, she had natural talent. BUT FOR abby to act like Maddie owes her for life is crazy cuz Melissa gave her plenty of credit when they were friends.

When they were still going to public school Melissa used to pull Maddie out of school all the time so that Maddie could start learning (that is why they started being home schooled, Maddie had missed too much school). After they were home schooled they didn't even need to come up with an excuse as they then had the free time to go.
Abby's dad is from the era where they say things like that and Abby has always been a daddy's girl and if you were listening you would have known that Abby said that Maddie always came in early because she had a mother who would take her out of class and Abby isn't heartless at all!
EXACTLY I love Maddie but the way Abby used to belittle the other girls by trying to make Maddie seem better than them was cruel. Abby knew that Maddie had the advantage because she learned her dances and her parts in the group dances before the other girls which means she had more time to practice and perfect it but Abby used that as a way to drag down the other girls and to improve Maddie's reputation. Melissa also knew and even when Abby was belittling those girls she said nothing, Abby even did it to Kenzie and Melissa still said nothing when Abby kept telling her "Why can't you be more like Maddie"

I have no proof, but I'm going to assume it was Melissa who ratted Abbey out. Not sure if this is true, but I read somewhere that Melissa took a Plea deal to save herself. I also read that Melissa took some of that money she helped bring over from Australia and kept some of it.

I was thinking the same thing. I heard the producers were looking to make a show and interviewed a few different studios but Abby had the perfect space to film in and the girls were cute, mothers were nuts etc
I saw one of the lifetime producers talk about it. It was actually going to be more of a documentary on young girls life in dance in general and each episode at a different dance studio but then when they were recording the first episode and Abby had to call the cops on the one mom they decided this was a better tv show.
I bet every word coming out of her mouth are lies. She lost Maddie and her family, so she is even talking badly about her. Hurt people do hurt people. And bitter angry women behave like childish spoiled brats.

I’ve been in the dance world for over 62 years. My mother had a dance studio in San Diego. But moved me, away from my family, to LA when I was 10 so I could get the best training. I was a professional dancer for six years. Working on tour and as a dancer tumbler in Las Vegas. I’ve also talked Dance for over 42 years. I had my own dance studio in the LA area for over 30 years. And I’ve been adjudicated for dance competitions for 10 years. Abby Lee Miller is a huge problem in our Dance world. Teachers and directors of studios should never behave, act or teach in the way she does. And if they do, they are also wrong. There are so many dance studios out there that offer impeccable training, amazing choreography and they do a positive and fun manner. Abby Lee Miller destroys children’s spirits! She uses them for her own interest. The reason why she pushes so many kids to be professional dancers because she wasn’t want herself. That is a fact! She is living her life through them. And that is wrong! She’s never been one of the professional dancer. I’d rather be a professional dancer than a professional dancer never been. But that still doesn’t give you the excuse to treat children like vessels for your desires. They are children first before they are dancers! I’ve been wanting to say this for over 15 years!

I only experienced a smidge of this in regard to dance teachers regretting their lack of a professional career or regretting leaving a thriving dance career early. I cannot imagine what it was like for these girls experiencing this every day during their formative years.

I trained to get into the Gilda ballet in new jersey. I was taught by a very strict Russian teacher. When I see everybody saying how mean she is I just laugh because it was nothing compared to what I went through. What they didn't understand is there was a bigger picture to Abby Lee and what she was trying to train them to be. Not just dancers but have the guts to pursue what they wanted. I look back at those years and years of dance with the fondest of memories. And gratitude

The producer of the show wanted this kind of content. If she didnt yell or scream there would be no Dance Moms. Just like the coach on Bring It, Lifetime as well. She yells at the kids and the ratings are through the roof. The fight, the pulling of hair, the producers encouraged this behavior. This interview has shed a lot of light controversy surrounding Dance Moms. I ❤ Abbie Lee Miller.
Everything Abby went thru is how *LIFE* works. Everyone has gone thru some trauma once in their life BUT that’s NO excuse to take out on ANYONE and continue the cycle.
This is very interesting. A few points - John Collins has said previously in interviews that they were looking for a studio to film a production show at, initially calling it Dance Moms, but then saw the behaviour of the owner of the dance studio and decided to sign up as they knew it would get views (as it's not often you see people with that level of narcissism in these types of roles). Abby says the kids never auditioned but you can see several uploads of the original kids auditioning for Dance Moms. Abby is trying to take credit for the show but John Collins (producer of Dance Moms) actually tells a different story in several online uploads (and I believe his account more, as, lets be honest, many of us watched with mouths gaped open because we could not believe how she was treating people - it was the shock factor that was why so many people continued to watch the show). Sadly, people with personality disorders and CSA and other forms of abuse have a mass affiliation - you rarely will get a person with a personality disorder who has not been abused (I say this as someone who worked for years in a mental health inpatient unit). Her disorder sticks out like a sore thumb to the trained eye. Taking into considerations editing and watching where the show had been edited, I also searched online watching her have interactions with everyday people - again, sticks out like a sore thumb. It's so sad that the cycle of abuse continues but thank goodness she never married or had children.
The dance world is toxic. This is not unique to Abbey Lee... You'd think such a beautiful art would come with nurturing authority figures, no. So many dancers have EDs, so many dancers have been abused in one way or another. It's just not a great industry. Not defending Abbey Lee but it's just not at all surprising that Dance Moms turned out like this.
It baffles me that you can teach when you've never done something yourself. Honestly the whole interview seemed like her making excuses for her blowing up and loosing her temper frequently with children.

So Abby is just an angel, is what I get from this “interview.” She loved teaching children, it’s the children’s fault she yelled at and belittled them, her dog died in her arms but she somehow wasn’t there, the show took advantage of her and her studio, a mom tipped off the authorities about money they thought she was making but she really wasn’t so she was wrongfully imprisoned.

Maddie experienced a different kind of abuse. She had alot of pressure to stay the favourite and stay on top. She saw what it was like for those who were not and was terrified of getting a taste of it.
The fact she even told a little child to come back “looking like a dancer” is beyond me, like she had no idea about the child’s upbringing etc idk how this woman can live knowing she’s probs ruined a lot of children’s dreams

I think the last straw for Maddie was how Abby treated her when they were leaving. She was so cold towards her. She didn’t deserve that but the toxicity became glaringly obvious to her.
She will never change. At a certain point when adults reach a certain age....that's it. She will always see her own pain first before anyone elses. You tell them how they hurt you and they counter it by talking about what they went through and what they sacrificed 30 years prior.
I kinda love that the students weren’t chosen based on talent. That means we got to see what the ladies transformed to with the coach of ALDC. As a viewer who grew up with the girls, that’s kinda awesome
The way she talked about not knowing why Maddie doesn’t talk to her is the reason why. She was nice to Maddie and did train her to be great but she didn’t do that for her sisters and her friends.
The way she genuinly does not understand how favouring one girl, making her the golden child while making other kids scapegoats, lost child etc is abusive to everyone is insane. She also spoke in a way implying the kids wanted to be yelled at too for the camera's and that's an insane take. She's not even sorry and trying to gain everyone's sympathy still..
Her rewriting of history and twisted vocabulary is stunning….and attacking her minor students calling them “ragamuffins,” “mediocre” or “sloppy” to this day is just mind blowing. I’m an extra curricular teacher. I have to repeat myself. Even if I had to repeat myself a hundred times, I would never yell at or belittle any of my students. I may have a conversation if a students’ behaviour is not serving their goals, but I always treat them with respect.

Abby still hasn't learned the difference between being a tough person and being an abusive person. You can be tough in a way that's loving but strict. Insulting the kids and making fun of them, calling them stupid, making fun of a Childs eye, and so on is ABUSIVE. The way this woman never takes responsibility of her actions and for her words never fails to amaze me. "The kids that were cast on the show are not my best students" like the audacity is just crazy. I truly can't understand why she can't admit that she hurt those girls and just apologize, Abby has missed out on having a relationship with these girls because of her narcissistic ways and her pride. Christi was telling the truth about how Abby did not put the girls in the same level playing field, but Abby not being able to understand why Maddie doesn't talk to them is crazy. This is ridiculous. Dance coaches at Abby's level, as well as professional coaches for gymnastics / ice skating for children who wana go to the Olympics can be even more intense than abby. It's literally what the parents are paying for, then complain about it.

The yelling wasn’t the problem, it was the name calling, and nasty commentary you would do to the children. It’s one thing to fight with the moms, you are all adults. But you would drag the kids into things and that was ugly. To call Chloe a sneak, calling Paige stupid, making fun of children’s appearances, and so many other things. That’s why you have all the problems with the girls and they don’t want to talk to you.

Fun fact: I went to UCLA with Nia 😊. Although, I never got the opportunity to talk to her, I did have a class w her our final quarter. She’s a very intelligent, thought provoking/ analytical student - so she definitely turned out great! Despite Abby’s lack of support.
I’m a former dancer, and I really wish Dance Moms didn’t become a thing. Dance Moms should’ve been about the kids’ talents, and not about emotional abuse at the hands of adults. This show may give people the wrong idea about what dance lessons really are. Real life is not what’s on a reality tv show.

What about the abuse by the mothers? What about the horrible divorces and quick relationships their parents jumped into during those divorces. Some of those girls were at dance all week because afterschool care ends at 6 but the dance studio doesnt close til 10! Cheap babysitting for moms who needed time to find rich hubby number 2 or 3 or run a private school or business. Abby was more of a parent to some of those girls than their own mothers. Also the situations lifetime put those girls through were abusive and terrible for even older children and teens.
Abby ended up being the scapegoat for everything bad that ever happened to those girls. They will have to unpack all those lies they told one day. Hopefully they figure out how to be honest with themself before they make the same mistakes their mothers made.

When they were still going to public school Melissa used to pull Maddie out of school all the time so that Maddie could start learning (that is why they started being home schooled, Maddie had missed too much school). After they were home schooled they didn't even need to come up with an excuse as they then had the free time to go.
Abby's dad is from the era where they say things like that and Abby has always been a daddy's girl and if you were listening you would have known that Abby said that Maddie always came in early because she had a mother who would take her out of class and Abby isn't heartless at all!

I have no proof, but I'm going to assume it was Melissa who ratted Abbey out. Not sure if this is true, but I read somewhere that Melissa took a Plea deal to save herself. I also read that Melissa took some of that money she helped bring over from Australia and kept some of it.

I saw one of the lifetime producers talk about it. It was actually going to be more of a documentary on young girls life in dance in general and each episode at a different dance studio but then when they were recording the first episode and Abby had to call the cops on the one mom they decided this was a better tv show.

I’ve been in the dance world for over 62 years. My mother had a dance studio in San Diego. But moved me, away from my family, to LA when I was 10 so I could get the best training. I was a professional dancer for six years. Working on tour and as a dancer tumbler in Las Vegas. I’ve also talked Dance for over 42 years. I had my own dance studio in the LA area for over 30 years. And I’ve been adjudicated for dance competitions for 10 years. Abby Lee Miller is a huge problem in our Dance world. Teachers and directors of studios should never behave, act or teach in the way she does. And if they do, they are also wrong. There are so many dance studios out there that offer impeccable training, amazing choreography and they do a positive and fun manner. Abby Lee Miller destroys children’s spirits! She uses them for her own interest. The reason why she pushes so many kids to be professional dancers because she wasn’t want herself. That is a fact! She is living her life through them. And that is wrong! She’s never been one of the professional dancer. I’d rather be a professional dancer than a professional dancer never been. But that still doesn’t give you the excuse to treat children like vessels for your desires. They are children first before they are dancers! I’ve been wanting to say this for over 15 years!

I trained to get into the Gilda ballet in new jersey. I was taught by a very strict Russian teacher. When I see everybody saying how mean she is I just laugh because it was nothing compared to what I went through. What they didn't understand is there was a bigger picture to Abby Lee and what she was trying to train them to be. Not just dancers but have the guts to pursue what they wanted. I look back at those years and years of dance with the fondest of memories. And gratitude

This is very interesting. A few points - John Collins has said previously in interviews that they were looking for a studio to film a production show at, initially calling it Dance Moms, but then saw the behaviour of the owner of the dance studio and decided to sign up as they knew it would get views (as it's not often you see people with that level of narcissism in these types of roles). Abby says the kids never auditioned but you can see several uploads of the original kids auditioning for Dance Moms. Abby is trying to take credit for the show but John Collins (producer of Dance Moms) actually tells a different story in several online uploads (and I believe his account more, as, lets be honest, many of us watched with mouths gaped open because we could not believe how she was treating people - it was the shock factor that was why so many people continued to watch the show). Sadly, people with personality disorders and CSA and other forms of abuse have a mass affiliation - you rarely will get a person with a personality disorder who has not been abused (I say this as someone who worked for years in a mental health inpatient unit). Her disorder sticks out like a sore thumb to the trained eye. Taking into considerations editing and watching where the show had been edited, I also searched online watching her have interactions with everyday people - again, sticks out like a sore thumb. It's so sad that the cycle of abuse continues but thank goodness she never married or had children.
The dance world is toxic. This is not unique to Abbey Lee... You'd think such a beautiful art would come with nurturing authority figures, no. So many dancers have EDs, so many dancers have been abused in one way or another. It's just not a great industry. Why doesn’t anyone ever blame the moms of these dancer and the viewers of this show for subjecting these girls to this woman for views and money. I just never understood that.

So Abby is just an angel, is what I get from this “interview.” She loved teaching children, it’s the children’s fault she yelled at and belittled them, her dog died in her arms but she somehow wasn’t there, the show took advantage of her and her studio, a mom tipped off the authorities about money they thought she was making but she really wasn’t so she was wrongfully imprisoned.

My gosh.. all this woman did was continue to try to victimize herself. I literally had to stop counting everything I disagreed with that she said, lied about, or just embellished to make herself sound so amazing. I was waiting for the self reflection...

Maddie experienced a different kind of abuse. She had alot of pressure to stay the favourite and stay on top. She saw what it was like for those who were not and was terrified of getting a taste of it.
So basically Maddie’s mom abused her . End of story

I think the last straw for Maddie was how Abby treated her when they were leaving. She was so cold towards her. She didn’t deserve that but the toxicity became glaringly obvious to her.
She will never change. At a certain point when adults reach a certain age....that's it. She will always see her own pain first before anyone elses. You tell them how they hurt you and they counter it by talking about what they went through and what they sacrificed 30 years prior.
The real victims on this show are not the parents or Abby or Gianna. The real victims are the students 💔

I kinda love that the students weren’t chosen based on talent. That means we got to see what the ladies transformed to with the coach of ALDC. As a viewer who grew up with the girls, that’s kinda awesome
The way she talked about not knowing why Maddie doesn’t talk to her is the reason why. She was nice to Maddie and did train her to be great but she didn’t do that for her sisters and her friends.
She explains that how she is came from her upbringing with her dad. Again, not an excuse but an explanation!

The way she genuinly does not understand how favouring one girl, making her the golden child while making other kids scapegoats, lost child etc is abusive to everyone is insane. Her rewriting of history and twisted vocabulary is stunning….and attacking her minor students calling them “ragamuffins,” “mediocre” or “sloppy” to this day is just mind blowing. She nears death, goes through bankruptcy, loses her mobility….and she’s still out here being vindictive and deceptive.
