Balloon Kid is REALLY Fun!

This has quickly become one of my favorite Game Boy games with cute sprites, fun music and floaty controls that have you constantly fighting your momentum. The game went on to receive a Famicom port in Japan a few years later under the Hello Kitty license and a Game Boy color port also in Japan much later in 2000 as a Nintendo Power/flash cart kiosk download. I wouldn't have given this game a second look if not for the Good Vibes Gaming video and while he mainly focuses on the Hello Kitty World game on Famicom it got me to look into the Game Boy version and realize just how good it really is.

I first played Balloon Kid at my cousin's house about 20 years ago and it is really fun and one the best early Game Boy vibin' games. The only thing I wish they added was 1 player and two-player via link-up Balloon Fight Game A and B as well. Trivia: The game is listed in the Super Game Boy ROM as a title that supports a default palette and it is assigned to A1 that is used by the standard setting for games, so it doesn't matter. I bought a NP Memory GB Game Boy cartridge that contains Balloon Fight GB written to it officially. I used to own a copy of Hello Kitty world but have since lost the cartridge as well as most of my collection due to stupid family.

I do recommend the Hello Kitty game, it was even translated a long time ago. The GBC game is also very cool.

I always found balloon fight on NES real fun and this is a spiritual sequel I guess, looks good man

Balloon Kid GB, the GBC version of the game, also has a save feature. I never collected all the balloons without dying in every stage. The game gives you an invincibility bonus every 10 balloons (if I remember correctly). I don't know if it's possible to collect every balloon in all stages as there are parts where it branches and offers to enter the bonus stage. I also don't know what it does when you collect every balloon on all stages without dying; maybe something good.
