If your xtrail was last driven in 2wheel drive it does not revert back to auto which is all wheel drive by default when you restart the car. Whatever mode you are in is shown on the dash. If you were in lock mode it will revert back to auto which is all wheel drive when the car is turned off.

You can always drive in AUTO. The idrive only adds the wheels in the back, when a traction loss is detected. So in AUTO you drive most of the time in 2wdr. There is no difference in fuel consumption also! Lock only use in lose terrain, never on regular roads, cause that would damage your car. Its all in the manual of your cars as well!

can anybody tell me. when my x trail 2019 was lift in air and selected 2wd option, i saw rear wheels are also moving/rotating.
