Mark, as a fellow weather nerd and retired meteorologist I really appreciate your morning briefings. BTW, Juan Brown called out your "channel" as a great resource ... he was right!
Theres no better weather forecaster than you Mark, in my opinion. I have missed seeing you on the live and so happy to have found you today. New subscriber. Thank you for all you do~
Whether it's being a dad or maybe getting older, I find myself much more interested in the weather. I also track all the fire activity and have spent a ton of time learning about weather effects on wildfires. I have learned a ton from The Lookout, a channel sharing tons of great info on fire activity and prescribed burning. All that to say, I love learning about all your go-to resources on the web. You shared the CNRFC earlier this week and I am hooked! Any great site reccomendations are appreciated, along with your forecast! Whether we were planning our school day or headed up to ski, you have been a constant in our lives, and I love that you are continuing on in retirement!
Hey Mark! Like many others here, I learned about your channel from blancolirio’s channel. Watched you on KCRA prior to relocating to Reno in 2003. As a few others have requested, an occasional look at northern Nevada would be great. Really enjoy your morning briefings. Thank you, sir!
longtime viewer from Sparks NV… always love your Sierra forecasts but wish you’d give the Reno-Sparks-Carson City megalopolis a mention (those Sierra travelers don’t ALL terminate in Tahoe!) it is dry and windy presently in Spanish Springs✌️
Great job Mark, maybe 45 seconds of a national weather overview, now that you have traveled the county in your RV, you probably understand our desire for planning purposes on what the rest of the US holds for weather challenges! Thanks Mark, keep up the great work!
Lookin good for Sacramento much needed rain coming to the rescue from our record breaking summer. At least one of the hottest summers we’ve seen in decades so it’s good to see rain back in the forecast. Hoping more atmospheric rivers bring more rain just enough to maybe not flood but give us that beneficial rain we need every winter
Whew, we are WET in the Oroville East Foothills! Wish the NOAA site had readings from closer to us, because the airport numbers are NOT accurate!! 2-3" of water in my front yard, drainage slowing for lack of anywhere to go, and it just keeps coming with far too much enthusiasm. No rain gauge proper but my empty cement mixing bin thing is freely overflowing. How much more, Mark?? Thanks!!
I’m where the diversion (power) canal is. So, I know what you mean about how the Oroville Airport weather doesn’t apply to this area. We have a weather Underground station 2 blocks from us, but they don’t post rainfall on my phone app so I go to my laptop and reach for my calculator to add all the hourly totals.
Thanks, Mark. Been watching you for years back in the KCRA days. Your coverage is always welcome because you're one of the few who actually covers our region of Northern California.
Thanks for not totally retiring. My parents used to watch you. It was always apparent that you were truly interested in the weather, not just doing a job.
I'm one of them. I watched you on KCRA3 for years and when you retired I found out that you had a channel of your own and I immediately joined. I wish you and your family a very happy Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Thanks for the CNRFC link the other day. Been subscribed for a while now and would appreciate if you keep on mentioning Yuba and Butte counties. Appreciate what you do!
So much rain, whew! You are a true weather scientist Mr Mark. And thank you for explaining in simple terms what is going on in our atmospheres. You are a joy to listen to 😂 Have a cozy weekend!
Mark, I listened this past week and did my travel this morning from Fresno back to Granite Bay. I left Fresno at 6:00 a.m. and made it to Manteca before I hit the rain. It got ugly but completed my travels by 10:30. I’m just happy to be home sitting in by my fire🙋🏼♀️🤭😉
thank you for everything you do mark ♥️ can you add in information on the i5 when it’s relevant? i travel that somewhat frequently past the border and always look to you first for the weather guidance!
Another great forecast Mark! Maybe for us wanna be weather nerds you could show us how you read a skew t graph sometime! And is that something you ever do? Thanks!
Great service!! Tip from Juan got me here. The interactive map you use is very robust, but it's hard to know where we are unless you are using the "hand" device. Any way to visually mark/pin a few key cities/towns that we can reference when the hand is absent? Thanks! 👍👍👍
Hello Mark I followed you when I lived in Stockton California now I’ve been living in meridian, Idaho I still follow you when you first started in here and I remember when you retired. I hope you’re enjoying your retirement.
I am in Gilroy and I really enjoy your insights. I usually can get a good idea from your models what is happening in my area. Thank you so much for your great information. Much appreciated.
Orangevale resident for the last 45 years (moved up from LA a long time ago)... I used to watch you all the time on the TV but a few years ago stopped watching the major media. The political slant was sometimes a bit much (not from you) so I turned it all off. I even recall you with more hair (I resemble that remark) and .... what ever happened to Lloyd Linsey? I did not know you had retired --- good for you. I do watch Juan Brown and he mentioned you ..... thanks Juan. I hope you stay in the weather business and I appreciate your knowledge. Happy Trails. Good morning, Mark and fellow weather watchers. As of 8:30 a.m. it's ☁️ 🌬 and 58° at the Orchard Cottage Weather Center in Oakdale, CA. Humidity 42%. Winds out of the S at 6 mph. Barometer 29.87 steady. Have yet to receive any rain here. Grapevine and Tehachapi Pass, no travel issues this weekend. Bill
I heard you on KFBK Radio tonight with Kitty O'Neil for the 1st time in years! I was so glad she mentioned your RUclips Channel at the end of your conversation with her. I'm thrilled to become your newest subscriber. You are still the BEST at what you do :)
Mark, you're the best weather source we've got. I'm watching from the San Jose area and use the info you provide to interpolate to our area (Santa Clara, San Mateo counties and SF). Would love it if you covered more of those areas, but total get it if you want to stay focused. Cheers!
Hi mark. As I’m watching this at 11:15 am I notice some of the heavy rain starting to filter into the Antelope area. This morning a little before 8 it was really heavy it was pretty cool to see that coming in at least half an inch with in the 10-15 minutes it was pouring
Mark, could you include Solano County in your report from time to time? We live in Rio Vista & have to guess based on Sacramento's forecasts. Thank you.
I know where you are is heavily populated but I'm in Eureka and would appreciate more coverage, do like your channel thanks to Broncolerio's (sp) recommendation.
Would love to see what we can expect in active weather in the Central Valley - what it’s going to be like in the Central Coast Monterey to Pismo Beach and LA area
Hi Mark, I live in Novato. Many in the Bay Area travel through Sacramento on our way to play in the Sierra's. I would appreciate a short Bay Area weather summary. Perhaps a reference to flight delays and weather that might cause major delays at San Francisco International. I realize this isn't your primary ex KCRA focus. I found you through Juan Brown.
It might be interesting to your viewers to take a close physical look at those weather observation stations that are found throughout the Sierra watershed areas and the data they collect and the DWR responses..
Mark great info, however, not quite my area. I'd love to know more about the coastal area. SFO upto ACV. Do you happen to know of any site close to your quality that talks about the coastal areas? Juan stays closer to your northeast, Grass Valley, and is a great resource, but having issue finding a true west coast site. If you know of one, I'd appreciate it,, thank you. Your giving a complete look, great job..
Hi Mark, Great job following this AR from start to finish! I do have a question. I have followed the weather in Stockton for years, and something I've noticed is that many times, Stockton seems to be in a rain shadow. It can be cloudy and raining completely around Stockton, yet we are dry. Am I just overthinking this, or is this actually occurring? Thanks Mark
Nothing in Sonora today, just the same old cloudiness. "They" say we will get some tonight after 7pm. I'm not goimg to hold my breath on that prediction.
Question for Mr. Finan ; The United States Air Force said in 2020 , they will " Own The Weather By 2050 " , if that is true Mr. Finan will know ? transparency is paramount for Americans .
@@jacklabrador6981 Just a few miles from Exit 21 on I5, outside Ashland and Talent, so just over the CA border. Hot dry summers, wetter and cooler winters, with a bit of snow, but overall a dry climate.
Hey Mark, can you explain where the Sacramento valley starts and the San Joaquin valley stops. I've driven between Sacrammento and Stockton many times and have never crossed over a mountain range.
The dividing line is the Delta. The SJ valley is where the San Joaquin River is, The Sac Valley is where the Sacramento River is. They meet in the Delta. To further complicate things... both valleys combine to be called the Central Valley. I hop that helps
The central valley of Ca is divided into two parts. One, to the north, drained by the Sacramento river. And one, to the south, drained by the San Joaquin river. The "dividing area" is the Delta region. Roughly between Stockton and Lodi. There is no high ground between.
Technically there is a mountain range that separates the two valleys where the San Joaquin River and Sacramento rivers meet in the middle of the Delta, it’s just you cannot see it on the surface. Both Valleys are approximately 10,000 feet deep troughs of alluvial fill from the coast range and Sierra Nevada Range minus 3 anomalies, the Sutter Buttes in the Sacramento Valley, The Bakersfield Arch in the southern end of the San Joaquin Valley and the Stockton Arch where the two valleys come together. Some geological hypothesis suggest that they were two distinct valleys at some point.
As your viewership rises, please remember the suggestion I made to you to have a real-life connection to another RUclipsr you can trust in case your Google password gets hacked or stolen. 👍💯

Deeper explanation for “why” macro weather systems do what they do? Also, any insight into how the models are created, maintained, improved, etc.

Mark you need anti-reflective coating on your glasses. Really enjoy the channel
He does. This is the first time I've noticed the glare
Good morning Mark! We’ve received 3” of rain here in Mooney Flat.
Where is Mooney Flat? Bill
Got an inch by 1 pm since midnight, in Elk Grove....great so far, and no gully washers, just constant rain.

That numerical list of precip, freezing lvl's, etc., is that accessible to the public or do you need a paid license to access that information?
Oroville doesn’t seem to catch a break from the rain.🌧️ 😢

Stockton lives in a rain shadow of Mt Diablo and on average sees less rain than Sacramento. In this case, the AR has been set up just to the north

I have no idea what that is about
Maybe it was over exaggerated but definitely lot of rain in a very short period of time
Nothing much in Calaveras County!
Still in the rain shadow here in Southern Oregon - a total of 0.69 inches of rain over the last 3 days.
