    Storm troopers are known for their accuracy - the joke of their inaccuracy is based on the fact that they DELIBERATELY shot wide of Luke, Leia, Han and Chewie on the Death Star, bringing them back to the Millenium Falcon and allowing the escape. The Falcon had a tracker on it, leading the Empire to the Rebel Base on Yavin!

      Aaron Ross I was thinking the same thing! Some of the stuff like the doors and vaporators look too nice to be scratch-built. At the least I would like to see build tutorials!

      I have also been wondering about the buildings. I would hope that at the very least, parts like the doorways and the moisture vaporators would be available to buy and use within your own buildings.

    What's a joke, and I thought it was funny originally, but the crap has gone on too long, is the long running trope that Stormtroopers can't hit anything because heroes have plot armor. They made pretty short work of Tantive IV.

    • @XV250
      @XV250 7 лет назад +6

      Why not just a regular ruler or a tape measure? I guess so they can charge more for the special bendy thing.

  • @joshuabianchi8689
    @joshuabianchi8689 7 лет назад +13

    Ranges are WAY to long. I also don't understand ffgs aversion to tape measures. Part of the fun of a good miniatures game is to be able to scurry around the edges of unit ranges while setting yourself up. What's the point if almost every unit has the range to shoot over half the table.

    • @XV250
      @XV250 7 лет назад +2

      Yes. They could have released a rule book with dice, and a whole bunch of new minis and terrain that could be used with either game. Instead they decided to split the market.

    • @jdeath88
      @jdeath88 7 лет назад +1

      Joshua Bianchi The board was small because it's a demo. The ranges are definitely within a realistic distance. You can play on a bigger board.

      Ffg is trying to attract x wing crowd and mini wargamers at the same time. They may succeed but my bet is that they will appeal to neither.

    • @TylerAndToast
      @TylerAndToast 7 лет назад +1

      Tape measures aren't exact enough. I have enough problems with people not being super precise with firing arcs in xwing. It matters a lot. Tapes allow a lot of variability if not used right. Templates clear it up and add a uniqueness imo

    I was excited at the thought of a 10-15mm mass combat game that could have reinvigorated the mass battle genre. I would be wholeheartedly behind that.
    Star Wars skirmish is interesting but I'll "wait and see" before jumping at this one. Custom move sticks are great for X-Wing and Armada for "speed" but a trooper who can move to any point along it, what's wrong with a tape measure?

      Would make no sense for Star Wars. Asymmetrical forces is the setting. A skirmish game makes sense for SW, like the one they were building with IA. Not that I liked that game, but it made sense with the theme.

  • @Quack_Shot
    @Quack_Shot 7 лет назад +3

    I actually may get into this. Seems simple and that's what appealed to me with X-Wing. The tape measure crap and 4 inch rulebooks are too much for me with the other mini games. This seems elegant.

  • @joshuatabak95

    This game looks really cool. It appears like FFG took the mechanics for Warmachine and Hordes, but added their own dice and rules from Imperial Assault, X-Wing and even their Warhammer Diskwars game (command cards). I can't wait to play this. Anyone know when its being released to the public?

      If this game goes well and they want to bring in more factions, wave 2 or 3 would be the time to do it, and either they'd throw in Clone Wars stuff, New Trilogy stuff, or a 'Scum Faction' (like they did with X-Wing)

    Really want a rulebook, since in this video we get told the dodge tokens just cancel a hit, but the Beasts of War article says they let you re-roll defense dice just like Aim. Re-roll would be much more useful for Luke and Vader's Deflect, for sure.

    • @Sanctioned
      @Sanctioned 7 лет назад

      Scott Arnone the beast of War article is incorrect

    • @doogan91
      @doogan91 7 лет назад +1

      Hi Scott, I'm the guy in the video providing the demo.
      Dodge tokens are spent to cancel one regular hit.
      Aim tokens are spent to reroll up to 2 attack dice.

      Nothing you did wrong! Just conflicting info from multiple sources! Like in the new Team covenant video we got more about the difference between types of cover and such. But yeah, that video also clarified the dodge token being what you said. But the further addition of Heavy Cover and the Force Reflexes force power makes it all make more sense.

    1. It'd be cool if you could destroy cover or part of cover with the bigger units. Make it dynamic.
    2. It'd be cool if there was an ability on a unit that would allow them to shoot if someone moves into their line of sight.
    3. It'd be cool if they had all the dice you needed.

    After seeing the play through I'm interested now. I like anything that comes out as a "War game". I want to play WH40k but can't afford it and no one plays War Machine in my experience. However Star Wars, not matter what, usually has a lot of players and from what I've found so far, they're aiming to under cut the competition price wise pretty damn well. From this demo, it looks interesting. I like how different color dice come into the game, that lets the other player know exactly whats up before the roll even happens. Not a fan of the custom measuring units though, I prefer the ol' fashioned tape measure. Custom measures always make me feel like the company is trying to force you to pay an extra buck, especially when the movement measure has a basic number which obviously is not the inch measurement. Still, for the right price, I really might consider giving this a shot.

      Dude there are plenty of minis games with differences and Warhammer is certainly not the best minis game about. See War Machine, Malifaux, Infinity as some of the more recent games that have taken a large slice of the pie from GW. You sound like a butt hurt child who lives at a Games Workshop outlet. That product and company are just as bad as FFG for me. Both cannabilising their own consumers and putting premium prices on their products.

    • @Ryan_Winter
      @Ryan_Winter 7 лет назад +4

      So basically Josh Smith confirms what Garrett Stewart was saying. The later reply just has more complaining in it on top of calling someone else a butt hurt child. LOL

    • @cdelaune5081
      @cdelaune5081 7 лет назад +1

      LOL Rylan that was great. TK, This game is FFG's Warhammer competitor. It is the game that they plan on taking out 40k With. They are offering different factions (I believe 7 were announced to be ready at release) Most of the people in this chat are whining like bitches and its funny to watch grown men cry about their toys.
      To the gw fanboys, this will take some of the market from GW if FFG's prices their mini's accordingly and offers continued factions updates and new models without ridiculous power creep.
      To the IA fanboys, since X-Wing has been kicking GW's ass for the last three years they decided to make a multi-faction combat game with tournament level balance so that they could unseat gw. This is a different concept than IA and shouldn't bother that game, what it will do though is take the more competitive players that were more interested in tournaments but didn't want to play warhammer.
      as a 40k player I will be investing in this, I believe it will be good and the more competition GW has the better the Tabletop industry gets.
      Also War Machine, Malifaux, and Infinity don't scratch the same itch as warhammer 40k, they are just too different. This game might.

    Why not follow up on that skirmish idea? money?......
    Looks great though but it's a bit of what we now already....but now it's themed SW.
    I'm not sure if i will purchase it.....

    • @SleeplessRonin
      @SleeplessRonin 7 лет назад +1

      Oh, absolutely money. The game is a different scale, the minis are hard plastic that you need to assemble to use...
      And if this follows FFG typical operating procedures, the starter box will give you exactly 1 die per color less than you need to play even the starter game. More or less requiring you to purchase a dice pack if nothing else. Ka-Ching.

    It looks to me like the movement and unit cohesion of WH40K, the dice of X-wing, maybe the stat cards of Imperial Assault. Hi, I'm the guy in the video giving the demo!
      You are correct! Barricades provide heavy cover, not light cover. For the demo, we were using the basic game rules, not always the full rules set, otherwise the demos were going to take substantially longer to run and explain (they already averaged 20-25 minutes, which is rather long for a convention game demo).

      Having played a LOT of Armada and X-Wing, I agree, upgrade cards quickly get out of control for both managing the game and balance. Hopefully each unit (group of dudes) can have a max of 1 upgrade, otherwise you'll have the same thing you see in most X-Wing and Armada games, lots of upgrades of every unit.

      pjpaella One upgrade of each type. I found in my two games so far it dramaticly speeds up combat to be fast paced which I enjoy. Regular infantry can just replace a regular guy with a heavy trooper and add a extra regular trooper. Grenades for both sides and targeting scopes for the rebels to give them precise.

    Why in the world does rebels have better accuracy than stormtroopers? It doesn't take much research to figure out the elite training citizens went through to become imperial stormtroopers, and how accurate they actually was.

    Big swing and a miss. Bit of a crap deal for Imperial Assault players and a bit of a wacky scale. Be nice to have seen something that was 15mm or 20mm with 'scale-able' games including skirmish to epic battles. This would've allowed for some interesting uses of vehicles, terrain etc. Although no doubt a smaller scale 'epic' Star Wars miniatures game will appear before too long but the rules and cards will be just slightly different.

    Frack. Why did you need to make special movement templates? It's a minis game. Was a TAPE MEASURE too difficult, or was a few pieces of shyte plastic being required that much of a cash grab?
    OH. And let me guess you only get four of each color die in the starter, right? I mean that is FFGs M.O. - always shafting you at least 1 die under what you need even for a starter box game. Stop shafting customers already.
    Also. Did we really need this? Was IA not good enough? Or was this just because you lost your GW license?

    • @BRNDMYR
      @BRNDMYR 7 лет назад +6

      I don`t like the narrow Dungeon Crawler Imperial Assault. I want open free battles. Thats why I was trying to make tabletop rules for IA, and then LEGION was announced. Yes. We need this.

      But do we need it the way FFG does it? With specialized movement templates, special dice, and all the cards of X-wing?
      And without AT-ATs? Cause at this scale, we will never get AT-ATs.

    • @HeadCannonPrime

      What makes it a boardgame? Cards you can only get from FFG. Nonstandard dice you can only get from FFG. A ruler that you can only get from FFG. A buttload of tokens you can only get from FFG Its a board game where you have to buy everything from them except the board. Also, good luck playing this game on a non flat surface and using that ruler.

    • @rhinehard206
      @rhinehard206 7 лет назад +1

      Not a very definitive line. pretty much all wargames have unit cards now. UNique dice and rulers make it a unique game. Sure it's a money maker and good protection for IP but it also stops 3rd partys crashing your game with cheap alternatives whilst providing thematic quality kit.

    For the expected price point looks like great pre-painted miniatures. The game itself, well, I don't see the appeal or much room for strategy. X-wing is all about maneuvering and predicting your opponent's plays where as this largely revolves on just rolling dice. If it gets popular somehow anyway I'd expect we'd be forced to buy 'expansions' just for the upgrade or unit cards. Lastly, to me, the StarWars universe isn't cool.

    So x-wing then just with ground figures. X-wing takes too long to set up, too long to play and sits on top of my cuboard collecting dust. £500 down the drain. None of my 7 friends who are all long time rpg'ers and war hammer fans ever says "let's play x-wing". Can't buy into this because of those reasons and if these come unpainted, no thanks -already have 100s of models that need painting.

  • @jeffmcarthur5617

    I VERY much hope you change the Stormtrooper rule of making the precise at shooting. I agree with the concept that they should be more powerful than they are in the movies, but that should be attributed to defense regarding their armor, not their shooting. Their lack of shooting ability should be played off as an amusing element in the game as poor shots, but their armor should be taken into account as a good defense. So if FFG reads this, PLEASE change that rule. That would make a huge difference and be much, much smarter.

    • @MrMichcio22
      @MrMichcio22 7 лет назад +4

      To quote Obi-wan "Only imperial stormtroopers are so precise"

    • @shivorath
      @shivorath 7 лет назад +6

      Why? They are known as excellent shots in the movie "None but Imperial Stormtroopers are so precise." as Obi-wan said.
      True, in A New Hope they are ordered to let the Rebels escape, and therefore miss, and similarly at Cloud City, but that is an example of them following orders, not any lack of precision.

    • @jeffmcarthur5617
      @jeffmcarthur5617 7 лет назад

      And in every other movie they continue to miss. I can believe 1 line in 1 movie, or I can believe my own eyes in every movie. This rule contradicts everything we see in favor of one line by one guy. That having been said, it's really because Lucas contradicted himself quite often. I just think it would be better to go with what we see than what we hear. We see they're bad shots. We see they're wearing armor. So why not make them bad shots with armor?

    • @TheDragonWhimsy
      @TheDragonWhimsy 7 лет назад +3

      They miss in the movies because the heroes have plot armor not because of substandard training. Also I noticed the Stormtroopers get red dice for defense which is better than the dice the rebel troops were using so the armor is taken into account.

    • @jeffmcarthur5617
      @jeffmcarthur5617 7 лет назад

      OH! They do take armor into account. I'm glad to hear that. Thanks for pointing that out. I see your point about heroes getting plot armor. (Great name, by the way.) I still disagree about them having a bonus to shooting as I really think that's going to get a lot of criticism from people, but it's not a deal breaker. (There are already a lot of comments about it here and in other videos.) But having them with better training does at least make logical sense.
