In our review of the Rode Videomic Pro we show you its features and the do a test of the quality of the Rode Videomic Pro
Rode Videomic Pro Extension Cable: amzn.to/1dnkRD8
Rode Videomic Pro Micro Boom Pole: amzn.to/19chA5l
    Rode Videomic Pro Deadcat: amzn.to/1pKbuUR
Rode Videomic Pro w/Deadcat Wind Muff: amzn.to/1rg2Qgb
Today we're going to be looking at the Rode Videomic Pro. The Rode Videomic Pro is one of the most popular recording devices on the planet. The Rode Videomic Pro is an on camera shotgun mic that improves the quality of audio being recorded directly to your camera. Lets take a closer look at the Rode Videomic Pro we are reviewing.
The Rode Videomic Pro is more compact than its cousin, the Rode Videomic, and is about 6.5 inches long. The front of the Rode Videomic Pro has this foam windscreen mounted to its plastic body. The plastic body of the Rode Videomic Pro is suspended from rubber, shock-isolating cords which attach to the Videomic’s standard shoe mount. The Rode Videomic Pro has a ⅜ inch female mic adapter thread on the bottom of the shoe mount so you can mount the mic to a boom pole or a mic stand. The Rode Videomic pro is powered by a 9V battery that is tucked into a compartment on the front of the mic. Since the Rode Videomic Pro consumes very little power, this battery will give you several months of continuous use before you need to replace it. The output from the Rode Videomic Pro is through a 3.5mm right angled connector at the end of a short wire. Now the length of this wire is more than enough to connect to any camera when the Rode Videomic Pro is mounted on the camera. However, if you need to mount the camera farther away, Rode sells a 10ft extension cable that is designed to work with the Rode VideoMic Pro.
Connecting the Rode Video Mic Pro is really easy. The Rode Video mic Pro plugs into the 3.5mm input port on your camera and mounts to the hot shoe mount on your DSLR or camcorder. And you can turn the Rode Videomic Pro on using the buttons on the back of the Rode Videomic Pro . When the Rode Videomic Pro is on, the indicator LED turns green. Now, the indicator will remain green most of the time but will turn red if the battery is about to run out. The rode videomic pro is a directional mic, so it has a much stronger audio pickup from what it is pointed at and a much weaker pickup from all other sources. So its a good idea to have the Rode Videomic Pro pointed directly at the subject you’re looking to get audio from. We’ve also noticed that getting the Rode Videomic Pro as close as possible to the subject, produces the best quality recordings.

THANK YOU so much good sir. I have been dealing with that "hiss" sound for years. I thought I would have to use Adobe Audition my whole life to get rid of it (and that's way too time consuming), but you showed me how to use my Video Mic and camera more effectively. Your tip worked like magic! You're the best, again, thanks!!!

+Mike Menzel I would recommend a mic stand like this one : amzn.to/1rnfkcu
You will also need a 5/8" to 3/8" adapter like this one: amzn.to/1NlXjEA

ReviewLamp.com this looks like it records the audio seperately, do you have any recommendations for mics that you've found to be the best but also record directly into your camera (I have a DSLR camera and am having trouble with that hiss). The sound in the demo above didn't sound that much better than the Sennheiser 400 that I have. Do you have a top pick?

    • @Reviewlamp
      @Reviewlamp  10 лет назад

On the higher end, we'd recommend the Rode NTG 2: amzn.to/14BTtlV
But the NTG 2 has an XLR output, so you'll need an audio interface like the BeachTek DXA- 2T: amzn.to/1wQIEmv
Another good option is the Audio Technica AT875: amzn.to/1wQJ38C
But this mic will again need the Audio interface I listed above.
      Hope this helps.

    1. Thank you very much for this video, I guess I am going to get one. :)
    2. My advice is for the portion where you record with the mic to show to your viewers the quality of the mic, to also have parts where you don't say anything.
    Thanks again.

+John Lennon Fanatic I have tested it and it isn't better in terms of quality. It's better only in terms of vibration isolation, thanks to the rycote mount.

It is a very bad microphone that should definitely be avoided. How come a product that says "pro" is manufactured with a built-in, unchanging crappy cable? I've been having a pitch noise problem since I got it. The reason is probably that the cable is stuck somewhere. It is not possible to understand how such a product can be made without a jack (I can offer which has get it with a double-sided jack in the cheaper model "micro").
The second big problem is the plastic crappy battery cover, you have to wrestle with the microphone to insert and remove the battery. Worst battery cover I've ever used in my life. I would never have guessed that a battery cover could turn my life upside down so much. After about 10 uses, the tabs of the battery cover (naturally) broke and black electrical tape is holding the battery cover now. This product costs around 200 USD. Kindergarten children who aged 0-6 would have designed this product better than Rode. As for the sound quality, if I can ignore the ongoing pitch noise -which I can't- if you're making news, making documentaries or having the opportunity to connect it to something like a boom etc., takes the human voice fine, but not too much better than my zoom. its terrible design should definitely lead you to other options.
