- Here's the final scene from the 1999 version (and the best one) of Mansfield Park!! One of my favourite scenes ever!!!
This clip does not belong to me!! So please dont take it down!!
Mr.Knightley what do you think you're doing?!
Ikr ........
😂
😂
Indeed
I'm in chock!
I like how the movie adaptations always make JA seem like a "hopeless romantic" when she was actually too clever for such nonsense 😊
well no one actually knows what JA was like in real life with regards to Love...
I disagree... She just wants people to love deeply and purely and honestly, but not falling in love with their own illusions. That is the basis of her romanticism... Now you may not think that is romance, but romance has been portrayed in various ways, and this one is also a valid one. Furthermore, it concurds with the western tradition
@@30eesh Actually, we do -- Jane Austen had a sister named Cassandra to whom she was very close and many of Jane's letters to her sister were preserved. It's clear from the letters that Jane was far from being what they used to call a "milk-and-water-miss" back then as you might have expected (especially since she was the daughter of a clergyman). From the sound of it, she was quite perceptive but her insights into other people often were not very charitable. From her writings, it seems rather clear that Jane Austen was not a romantic -- and in fact was something of a skeptic or even a cynic.
I know this isn’t exactly spot on to the book but this is my favorite adaptation of Mansfield Park
"As a hero loves a heroine..." Jane Austen didn't write any of this scene, that's obvious.
I can not describe in words how happy this scene makes me feel. It's such a beautiful end to this adaptation, plus I really can't handle Jonny Lee Miller's cuteness in this scene :)
I have watched it a hundred times
Couldnt agree more 🥰
Im totally agree with you, He looks young and handsome here, but in Emma he looks aged and sexy, he is the best Mr Knightley ever!!!
No way Mark Strong was the best Mr Knightley! 😉
@@bernicerogers2383 I totally agree with you on this. And Kate Beckinsale easily the best Emma. I do like Jonny Miller though.
Johnny is so perfect for these romantic parts. Great actor / GORGEOUS to watch. 😍 His voice is outstanding...💖💗
He was perfect in Emma as Mr Knightly 💖😍💖
I love _Mansfield Park_ - it’s my favourite novel. A scene _like_ this, unfortunately, is the only thing missing in it.
They're first cousins and it just grosses me out. If you can show someone a picture of "our grandmother and grandfather" you are too damned closely related.
@@FrostineCupcakes Yes, but it was normal back then. I don't think we should judge a 200-year-old book relationship by modern day standards.
@@FrostineCupcakesOmg! I completely forgot about that!!! I did not realize till I ready your comment. Eww lol. I know it was normal back then but eww. Not even second cousins
A brilliant adaptation presenting a Fanny Price ready for the 21.century: Sharp-witted and ironical, self-conscious but also self- critical instead of the more inactive character of the book. At the end she gets what she wants - the "creepy" smile I consider an absolute highlight of the film says it all. So three cheers for script, realization and - of course - a wonderful Frances O'Connor as Fanny Price. She's the one!
Mr. Knightley?!
He's a bit of a cad but you have to admire his chutzpah, the other lady is on the other side of that wall.
Haha, he was only 'friendzoned' after he didn't realize her entire life that she had feelings for him. So he 'friendzoned' her first xD
When they finally kiss, I love how Edmund looks as though he is so freaking relieved of all that sexual tension lol. Like, his face just reads, "OMG it's finally happening, after all these years of fantasizing!"
Mmmm.... oh JLM
+Anna Kumm hmm now I want to see him as a certain mr Darcy ;)
I think he ll be too cute for Darcy
Can think of him as Mr.Bingley
Yes, he did! And although he was a beautiful boy in MP, by the time Emma came around, he was 100% man, and sexy as hell! I think he's aged really well; and he's now MY perfect Mr Knightley.
Imy expectations for a guy is too high. I'll never get married because of Jane Austen lol
The little chin quiver he does gets me every time. Well played, sir.
The look on his face as they kiss.... This is so romantic. It's been to long since I've watched this movie.
I love the 2007 one but I wish johnny Miller played the Edmund in that one.
I cannot fathom why they chose the camera angles used in this. For a few seconds it seemed as if she wasn't going to kiss him, and then when she did, it was awkward. Great movie though. This man is so handsome, especially in Emma, that it really doesn't matter. :D
I think that is the idea. The two of them blundered so much in coming together over the years, and their kiss reflects it. But ultimately, looking at each of them from the perspective that we do shows the kiss from their own perspectives, leading the kiss to be personal, vulnerable and as purely longed for as you might imagine a first kiss might be.
@1:58 her staring at us like, yeah I got the guy I'm so happy!!!
Out of all the different versions of Austen Movies....I think the Masterpiece Theatre versions are the best! Emma, Northager Abbey, Persuasion....Mansfield Park! Simply beautifully made!
As I've never love anyone my entire life......wow
He forgot Mary Crawford 😏
Johnny Lee Miller: Edmund and Knightly.
The Edmund from the 2007 Mansfield Park was Mr. Elton in that version of Emma. I wonder if they knew that they'd both played the same character in diiferent versions of Mansfield Park.
all I think of is mr. knightley when I watch this movie
I still don't get why they had to change Fanny Price's character so much like they did (yes she's quiet and a little meek but she's not passive and without any backbone like some would have you think), but I did end up enjoying the movie a lot more than I thought I would.
Frances O'Connor is so cute! And awesome. And perfect :)
This woman is beautiful. as underestimated by the way she acts how much her beauty
For this book, she's way too healthy and forward.
I love the 2007 adaption but I also love Johnny Lee Miller. This scene however sweet it is, I can't love the way this scene was shot to be quite honest with you. It sort of ruins the feeling of the scene really! The acting is great but the cinematography is a bit choppy in places.
+emmybm15 Did you like the 1983 adaption? The quality isn't as good as Pride and Prejudice, but it's still pretty good. But yeah, I understand what you mean about the cinematography
agenttheater5 I haven't seen that one! But gosh the cast! Oh gosh I need to see that! Nicholas Farrell as Edmund, would not have thought about that casting to be quite honest! ♡♥ I LOVE SAMANTHA BOND! :D ♡♥
lol the end of that sentence is fanny price!!! Hadt realised it was quite such a bad innuendo!! Your the only sick one whose noticed!1
I like both these actors, but this scene is NOT in the book. Maybe Austen thought it unnecessary.
"...as a man loves a woman!" I never thought Fanny and Edmund were dumb before. At least it's short.
Because Edmund and Fanny are sensitive and highly intelligent people, not apt to use dullard sitcom tropes like I love you -- I know -- No! Like a man loves a woman! I may be older than you, since you may have heard this less than 1000 times.
And Edmund going on to "as a hero loves a heroine" and Fanny looking smugly over Edmund's shoulder at the camera is just sad. I always end up turning off this version (though it's not the worst) because it's mostly made for a 12-year-old's level of comprehension.
And while I'm getting going, grrrr, why is Fanny slumping down on the bench? So the corset pushes up her boobs? Ladies didn't slump, especially very proper and sedate ladies like Fanny.
Fun fact: a very young Jonny Lee is one of Fanny's little brothers in the 1983 version -- the only one that is really like the book. I highly recommend it.
Flora Posteschild Very true! This scene was so "wrong"... And the appearance of Fanny, with this plunging neckline, and her face, so modern... She would have been thought of as extremely ugly at the time, with that angularity, the big mouth... Who can choose this sort of face for a period heroine? Grant you, Fanny is not described as a great beauty, but she is courted and admired at the ball, her uncle approvingly says how well and pretty she has turned out, so a sort of face like Le Tourel's in the 1983 is much more what one would expect.
It's been a while since I read the book but recall Fanny was described that as having even features, and looking like the family. It's not the worst sin, but another example of the producers not caring enough.
To be fair, exposed breasts, and sometimes much more (ladies wore their "Greek" gowns) were fashionable at the time. But Fanny, a very proper, shy lady living in a country house, with a conservative uncle and a clergyman cousin would be the last person to be in fashion.
Flora Posteschild: Exactly. The plunging neckline etc. would be seen in a London high society reception on fashionable ladies.
@@irmar At least she doesn't have messy, bleached hair, like Billie Piper did in the 2007 version.
@83MoonLightLover93
Seen it as well!! hahaha
I have a serious obsession with period romance movies!!
My inner shipping heart is squealing in happiness. These two are ADORABLE
I loved this actress in the 2007 Persuasion version...
Different actress. Sally Hawkins portrayed Anne Elliot. This is Frances O’Connor.
@ginny2610
I've been considering that one, since I LOVE Matthew Macfadyen. Is it sad?
The original title of the video was 'Edmund confesses his love for Fanny' and not 'Fanny Price' xD
words carefully chosen can mean a lot :D
That's priceless!
wow jonny lee is awesome
@CookieFace2010 Well, it's a bit sad, but it's a beautiful story :D and very well played by Matthew :P
I love that at 0:28 she was totally going to friendzone him. XD
Unless you're British, you will NEVER understand why the title of this video is so funny.
Why?
Carine L. Fanny is a woman’s private part in England .
@@carinel.1333 As mentioned before Fanny is a sex slang term.
Now read the title this way Man's-Field Park. Get it?
Choose to love each other.... Love is our only strength which only keeps us going..... We will reach our goals together..... Bewitched by most talented and magnificent ever seen meant to crush not to be crushed..... Already breaking chains in many lives.... 💝💝💝💝
He is not Edmund... He is Mr. Knightley!
Her bangs offend me.
0:22 til 0:32 edmund was friendzoned.
What is with the creepy smile at the end
True
Awful
Its cute and all but this is so unlike the book that I hate it. None of the characters are as they were written. I understand taking some artistic liberties with the story but this rendition does not resemble the original in any way.
What was with that cheeky smile at the end? XD
I like this version for the cast. Seems to me 2007 version more romantic at the end. It would be perfect that ending with these two...JLM is so handsome
Nani! Mr Knightley!
No matter how many times I watch this I always get chills and teary eyed...I already re-watched it 3 times..Fuuuu *forever alone* lmao jk.
wait a minute... the guy who played edmund is playing mr. knightly in the 2009 emma!?!?!
now i can't help but see edmund when i see mr. knightly
anyone else see him slip some tongue in there @ 1:50 ? hahahha get some edmund!
People wouldn't have started kissing just because they confessed their love, and for darn sure not in the middle of the street. That would have been highly inappropriate. Why do we feel the need to impose modern behaviors on a very different time period?
no they are close cousins but it was okay in those times to do so
@ChocolateIsMyDrug ... Ooh I must agree with you JLM is HOT HOT HOT... he is THE most perfect Mr Knightley and a very gorgeous Edmund Bertrum too... *sighs*.... Many thanks @Napoleonsbackbaby.. for posting this wonderous gem... :0)x
I really hate this adaptation, I don't think it accurate to the book at all, but I love Jonny Lee Miller as Edmund (though he's now more of a Mr. Knightley to me).
Our American film makers / script writers aren't very good at "keeping it as close to the novel as possible."
Especially English Classics. Sad but very true..
am i the only one it bothers they being cousins?
ansolckl they are not blood related.
What is the problem if they were blood related .or if they were real cousins ??? Can u explain plzz??????
They were 1st cousins, their mothers were sisters, that wasn't particularly unusual. I would be willing to bet that if you or indeed most people who knew their genealogy, within 8 generations or so would find they have 1st cousin marriages. I myself know of 2 1st cousin marriages within 8 generations back.
@@emanuellealexine they literally are
@@imaneflower3861bc that's not normal??? that's literally incest?? their kids would probably have genetic maladies since they were inbred
I can't think of any love scene in Jane Austin ending in a big wet kiss. And if you ask me, it doesn't work cinematically.
Are they not first cousins?
pogchamp
I got confused. I thought they mistitled it. Mr. Knightley is Edmund, just like how Edmund was the lover of Harriet Smith (whose name I cannot recall.)
I love! 😃👍💕
@wonderful67 It doesn't bother me, and actually it was common for cousins to marry back then in that time period.
😃😃😃I love! ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Wait, sorry, aren't they cousins?
They must be distant cousins because you can fall in love with your distant cousins and marry them
I think this is really sweet Pride and Prejudice is the only Jane Austen book/film I've read and seen so I haven't seen or read any other Jane Austen books/films
They were First cousins actually. Their mother's were sisters
Back then it was more common for first cousins (which they are ) to marry each other, and I believe in England it is still legal for first cousins to marry each other. Obviously different in other countries.
Sherlock!
I've seen all the Jane Austen romances, I've seen North and South. I need another period romance!! Help!!!
Have you seen Wives and Daughters, based on the novel by Elizabeth Gaskell? I realise it has been 7 years, so you've probably come across it!
@vavoomm Ahhhhgreed. PERFECT for this role.
Yes I liked him better in Emma
OMG me too!! lol
Spoiler much?
This adaptation is AWFUL, but JLM is wonderful.
@CookieFace2010 Maybe Little Dorrit?
1:51 wooooo going all tongues i see ;)
@ChocolateIsMyDrug I like Northam; BUT he makes him SOO sexy and gentlemenly. BTW; their making a NEW Dark Shadows movie; guess whos Roger Collins? HIM!!
bad sound
Unfortunately, Fanny Price is intentionally written as a pathetic character, and no cinematic attempts to make her more palatable for a modern audience can do justice to Jane Austen's novel
Question...Why do they have to start passionately kissing? why can't just be a simple sweet kiss, sheesh. Haha.
.
trolololol
@yay4fb
Already done it! =/
Wow. this is a terrible version of the Mansfield Park, I really do not like the actress playing Fanny. Billy Piper played the role much better even though I am not a big fan of hers.
Nah i'm team henry (if only the whole thing with Maria didn't happen)
This is a stupid scene. The whole film must be an idiotic adaptation.
I didn't like this fanny
