- The 720S is a new level of refinement for McLaren. For years Mclaren has been trying to individualize themselves against Ferrari and Lamborghini, I truly think the 720S is purest affordable form of the McLaren brand. The ridiculous weight savings, science fiction styling, cutting edge technology, fuel efficient engines and everyday usability really summarize the goal of McLaren.
The McLaren 720S is the newest member of the Super Series from McLaren featuring 710 Horsepower and 568 ft. ibs of Torque.
During a cold start, the engine is fed extra fuel to warm up which creates some backfiring that sounds like microwave popcorn or small arms fire when in a large building.
The all new 4L engine features Electrically-Actuated Twin Scroll Turbochargers that spin at nearly 2,700 times/Second which is 160,000 revolutions per minute.
The new Proactive Chassis Control 2 provides a more dynamic range between comfort and track, it’s comparable to the difference between a 570GT and a 675LT.
The steering in the 720S is much more responsive than the 650S and a bit more weighted than the 570S. At high speed I really noticed the 50% increase in downforce from the 650S.
The 720S is the next chapter for McLaren.
The McLaren engineers have taken saving weight to a new level. The Brake Calipers have shrink wrapped to remove excess weight and the optional glass on top is tinted Gorilla glass, the same as an iPhone screen.
The 720S has a power to weight ratio better than the 675LT and Ferrari f12 TDF and costs half as much.
All McLaren’s are fast to 60.. The 60-180 acceleration in 720S is totally unprecedented for any non-hybrid car under a million dollars. This car only seems to really stretch it’s legs in triple digits and when driving hard, Blue Flames can be seen shooting out the back.
The technology in the car is completely redesigned, any McLaren owner will tell you the previous Iris system was painfully laggy. The new interface is intuitive and responsive and has features such as Variable Drift Control that holds the vehicle at a desired degree of drift.
The 720S isn’t totally impractical either. It has a front trunk that would hold enough luggage for you and your Aventador Roadster friends. Finally HomeLink is an option as well as a super smooth 360 degree camera for parking.

I’m a car enthusiast, I appreciate all cars. The 488 and Huracan Performante are unique in their own right. Stats show the McLaren is the fastest in a straight line but at the end of the day it’s all personal preference. If you are in the market to buy one of these, I recommend driving each and buying the one that puts the biggest smile on your face.

Epic video, the noises this thing makes are crazy! Was never too crazy about McLaren, but the 720s is stunning looks wise. Can't wait to see one soon. Keep making reviews man, you get your hands on some epic cars.

I agree (although I though the 675LT was also nice looking). But the 720S is the real deal. Some people point out that the headlights are ugly. I don't think that's the case. We're just not used to seeing headlights designed that way. They look different....That's all! What color would you have chosen, though?

Im surprised that the ignition cut seems so much more aggressive in sport than track? In track didn't look like you were getting that gear change kick as much....
+iLLGT2 that's exactly correct. Totally seamless in track mode but BRUTAL in sport mode!! It shocked me actually since no other mclaren drives like that!
iLLGT2 on track you don't want to upset the chassis on corner exit.

Excellent video! This is truly a very special supercar. I wish I could afford it. I'd buy it right now....even without test driving the Huracan Performante or any other supercar.

Sure! But, there are still some cars that accelerate quicker than other that within their class (in terms of hp), despite being heavier. For example, a Nissan GTR with 540hp accelerates quicker than a Ferrari 458 Italia with 570hp and is much lighter.
