Jane’s hair and height change is part of a transformation when she wields the hammer. In the comics she generally wears the helmet while transformed as well, so it’s not as clear it’s Jane to anyone who might know her.
Also transforming actually makes her cancer worse because when she turns into Thor the godly powers that come with it also includes undoing the radiation from her chemotherapy. Her transformed body doesn’t have the cancer, but since the radiation is not natively part of her it remains just long enough to be completely removed, so when she turns back the cancer is back and the effects of the radiation from her chemo are gone.

  • @jabecker21

It’s a good twist that Thor receives the same reaction when he confronts the rest of the gods that Gorr received in the beginning of the film.

Taika Waititi (director, writer, and voice of Korg) said he's a been a longtime fan of the Guns N' Roses and that "it's always been a dream of [his]" to feature them somehow in his work. He also joked "we just wanted to spend as much money as we possibly could on some songs."

I think it's important Love got Stormbreaker in the end, because Mjolnir doesn't have the ability to summon the bifrost and Stormbreaker does. This way, if they ever get in trouble Love can use it to escape while Thor runs interference or deals with the conflict they found themselves in.

The reason they gave such different time frames for how long it's been since they've seen each other is because Jane got blipped. 21:02

  • @SigTheSauceMan
    @SigTheSauceMan 5 месяцев назад +10

5:00 This sword is All-Black the Necrosword. In the comics, it was the very first symbiote (the thing that Venom is), manifested from the shadow of the evil deity Knull, and tempered inside the head of the Celestial now known as Knowhere (the floating head planet that the Guardians of the Galaxy made their HQ, where the Collector's Museum was).
9:30 Jane was among those who got snapped by Thanos, and was diagnosed with cancer shortly after being blipped back. Avengers: Endgame/The Battle of Earth happened in Fall 2023 (after the five-year timeskip from Infinity War's end and Endgame's prologue). Thor: Love & Thunder takes place in Fall 2025.
11:40 Yet again, Luke Hemsworth makes an appearance as the Thor Actor.
18:15 So... Jane is the new Thor (officially called "Mighty Thor"). And getting taller, more muscular, and her hair becoming blonde-ish and long is all part of the transformation. This and her cancer storyline is taken directly from the 2014 Thor comic.
25:25 Yes to both. So... when Jane transforms, the divine power of Thor eliminates all foreign substances/poisons (such as chemo and radiation) from her body. This would normally cure any normal sickness, but cancer is something that's not considered "foreign" by our body, so transforming doesn't get rid of it when she transforms back. Instead, the elimination of the chemo and radiation actually accelerates the cancer.
26:00 No, Jane transformed back for a moment. It seems she isn't able to maintain the transformation indefinitely (since she isn't actually Thor).
29:50 Yes. Quite a few, actually. I recognized a few, and looked up some others (below).
29:55 If you know anything about actual Greek history... this was actually very on-point.
32:22 Eternity is referring to an actual deity here: Eternity, one of the three Cosmic Entities (the other two being Infinity and Death).
33:25 All Gods can bleed gold like that. But it's mostly just the ones who care about being looked at as Gods that do that. Thor *could* make his blood look like that if he wanted.
43:20 Incorrect. Stormbreaker does not have a "loyalty/worthiness enchantment" on it like Mjolnir does. The only thing keeping Stormbreaker from being wielded by others is how powerful it is. But Gorr is a God-level entity, so he can wield Stormbreaker without risk.
47:30 This is a rare instance of Thor using Odin's powers he inherited when Odin died.
56:20 Even better when you learn that Love is played by Chris Hemsworth's actual daughter, India Rose Hemsworth.
56:55 Yes. So... Thor probably did this for multiple reasons. 1) Thor is far more attached to Mjolnir, since he's had it for thousands of years, and received it from his father, Odin. 2) Love is a COSMIC ENTITY (on the same level as Eternity, Infinity, Death, Entropy, Eon, the One Above All, the Living Tribunal, and The Watcher).
57:50 MCU Hercules is played by Brett Goldstein
    Gods/deities seen in Omnipotence City:
Zeus Panhellenios, Greco-Roman God of Lightning
Minerva (aka. Athena Parthenos), Greek Goddess of Wisdom and War, daughter of Zeus
Artemis, Greek Goddess of Childbirth, Vegetation, and Animals
    Quetzalcóatl, Aztec God of Life
    Iscallis, Iberian Goddess of Fertility
    Haumea, Maori Goddess of Childbirth
Chaac, Mayan God of Rain and Abundance
Amatsu-Mikaboshi, Shinto (Japanese) Goddess of the Dead
Yu Huang, Tao God (aka. the Jade Emperor of Chinese mythology)
Bast/Bastet, Egyptian/Wakandan Panther Goddess (the Goddess that created the first Black Panther by leading him to the Heart-Shaped Herb)
Also, since the Marvel universe is expanding upwards into cosmic territory, here's the hierarchy (not naming ALL of them, there are FAR too many, so I'll just mention the ones we've seen/heard of so far, or are likely to see soon):
*Multiverse Level (exist outside all universes)*
    - The One Above All (the most literal God of the Marvel Multiverse, often portrayed with the likeness of Stan Lee in the comics).
    - The Living Tribunal (the Arbiter/Judge of the Multiverse).
*Universe Level (ie. Entities that are the extensions/parts of the Universe itself, not merely things that exist within it)*
    - Eternity
    - Infinity
    - Entropy
    - Death
    - Galactus
    *Within the Universe*
    - Cosmic Entities
    - Watchers (like Uatu, from the "What if...?" show)
    - Celestials (Tiamut, Arishem, Ashema, Eson, Oneg, Ziran, Hargen, and Jemiah)
    - Elders (Grandmaster, Collector)
    - Cosmic Sentients
    - Ego
    - Elder Gods
    - Kronos
    - Gaea
    - Izanagi
    - Izanami
    - Vishanti
    - Gods
    - Earth Pantheons
    - Heliopians (Ennead/Egyptian Gods)
    - Olympians (Greek Gods)
    - Asgardians (Norse Gods)
    - Celestial Genetic Manipulations
    - Eternals
    - Deviants
    - Mutants
    - Kree Genetic Manipulations
    - Inhumans
And then at the bottom are the normal, mortal races (Terrans/Humans, Atlanteans, Kree, Skrull, etc.)

Fun fact, Jane whispering something unknown in Thor's ear at the end is a call back to the comics as the words made him unworthy and began the Mighty Thor mystery.

  • @plothole181
    @plothole181 5 месяцев назад +15

    Two things:
    1. Apparently both Chris Hemsworth and Taika Waititi were surprised to see the "Thor Will Return" card at the end of the movie as they thought that this was the last Thor movie.
    2. When they did the Jane Foster/Mighty Thor plotline in the comics, there was a long period of no one knowing who this new Thor was because she was always wearing the helmet. Thor was going to every woman who knew to see if they were Mighty Thor and Jane (in her sick bed) even denied being Mighty Thor. My favorite scene during this era was when Thor went to check if Sif was Mighty Thor and he's kind of hedging and when Sif figures out why he is there she gets pissed a basically says that next time he sees her he better be armed and Thor pulls out his list of suspects (which includes every woman he knows and Loki) and puts a question mark next to Sif's name.

For what it is worth, Chris Hemsworth is an impressive 6'3, a full foot taller than Natalie Portman. For the scenes where Jane had the power of Thor, CGI was used to make her look about 5'9. What is more impressive, as confirmed by set photos, is that Natalie Portman's muscles were NOT CGI in those scenes.

  • @eolsunder
    @eolsunder 5 месяцев назад +7

yes she is very small and tiny in real life, and she talked about doing movies like this always having to be on platforms, ramps and boxes to seem taller. She's only 5'3, so they wanted to make her look taller in her "thor" form, so she had to walk on raised areas that were designed for the scene. She also had to bulk up some because normally she's very skinny, so she worked like 10 months to get bigger and look in shape for the role.

  • @MattPerk7

I don't think that the goats were an actual gift. I think they were a "gift" that Thor was "required" to take to "thank" him for his "service" that involved destroying their Temple

  • @SunlessNick
    @SunlessNick 5 месяцев назад +2

One of the running threads I like in this film is the sense that the magical weapons have, not exactly intelligence, but a sense of agency. Like Mjolnir is being passive-aggressive when it twitches towards Thor but then stays with Jane, while Stormbreaker is jealous and insecure about Thor hanging around with his previous weapon. And Thunderbolt was all, "You've been using me for party tricks for 3000 years, I'm going with the guy who wants to use me as a weapon. Bye!"
My headcanon is the enchantment on those improvised weapons remains. And in years to come, that little girl with the rabbit will become a young woman, who donates the rabbit to a children's home or charity, hoping it will give other kids the comfort it gave her during her ordeal. And with that agency of magical weapons, it will find its way into the hands of other endangered children - who want to go home, or want their home to be safe - and those children will (for a limited time only) possess the power of Thor.

I might be wrong because I only thought of this just now. 2 years after I watched the movie. But it seems like Gorr kidnap the children because he wanted them to see how useless their gods are. The new generation that will stop believing in their gods

No Marvel's "Shang-Chi" reaction❓ ... That one was great, a wonderful adventure❕ It adds a new flavor into the MCU and Shag-Chi will be a continuing great addition to the Avengers!
More importantly, you'd enjoy that movie ride!😉

The Guns N Roses "propaganda" I'm pretty sure is simply that the director really likes the band, and so decided to theme the movie around them.

Overall i enjoyed this movie, I'm just a little disappointed that they couldn't do more with Gorr the God Butcher, the Necro sword or Eternity compared to the stories in the comics. But also that would be impossible to contain in just a movie or impractical to make more, so I'm satisfied enough.

It definitely felt like Taika Waititi was a bit “much” with this but I don’t think it’s as horrible as some people made it out to be. I like Waititi’s other movies so much that I’m okay with him having one film I don’t like (what director doesn’t have at least one bad movie?).
The things I unequivocally like are the fight in the shadowy world, Christian Bale as Gorr, and the bittersweet handling of Thor and Jane’s relationship

So, I hate to say it, but I'm one of the people who did not appreciate this movie. Like, there's a lot of good material in it, don't get me wrong, but Taika Waititi (both the director and Korg) just went too off of the rails with it in my opinion. Ragnarok was great with his sense of humor in it, but this one just... pushed his sense of humor too far. Reading about a lot of the behind-the-scenes stuff really bothered me, too. The production was rushed, the script was only about half finished when they started production, and the visual artists were really just... completely shafted, and given nowhere near enough to actually do their jobs properly. Not only that, but after the movie came out, he was snarky about the bad CGI in the movie in a way that was pretty insulting to the artists. On top of that, after the movie came out, Chris Hemsworth was saying that he was done playing Thor, and would only come back in order to close out his story... and that he would never work with another "Mad Genius Director" again. Clearly, the filming experience was just that toxic, and... knowing all of that has really soured me on the movie as a whole @_@

This is a weird one, and though it's not as good as Ragnarok, it is definitely better than the first 2 Thor solo movies, in my opinion. I could rewatch this over Dark World any day, but I understand if fans were put off by it. Like I said, it's a weird movie. One moment it's so silly and campy the next stuff is deadly serious. Discussions of faith and worshipping divine beings, never meeting your heroes, and Thor himself clearly still being affected by everything that happened during the Infinity era. This felt like Thor was actually hanging out with his friends and not coworkers like he did with the Avengers, and this goofy movie really gave us that really touching heartfelt ending, like that's some good emotional stuff there, WTF movie.

I have to tell you... you aren't actually caught up, not even with some of the best stuff: Daredevil is part of the MCU, and IMHO, it's one of the best TV series. And season 1 of Jessica Jones is 'Can't Miss'.

    • @inspectre27

I'll second the Jessica Jones. The artistic parallels to a certain kind of relationship are masterful (intentionally vague to avoid spoilers).

As far as the GNR they just went way too far with it like the comedy in this movie. They used Led Zeppelin in the last movie to great effect so they thought why not do the same thing with GNR in this film but take it up 10 notches. Of course they went way too far with it.
Also, a lot of the tone of the movie is inspired by the animated movie Heavy Metal, with only a little bit of the nudity.

    • @Etticos.
      @Etticos. 5 месяцев назад

The only part where the GNR really hit for me was when all the kids get powers and they start killing the shadow monsters to that guitar solo. That shit was fire. Everything else was just kind of “fine”.
