- I just got my Kenwood KDC-X796 headunit installed in my 2003 Dodge Ram 1500.
This is more of a build log video, but it also shows other people how to if they wanted.

EDIT: Use the remote wire from the head unit wiring harness, not the truck wiring harness.
2003-2005 Dodge Ram1500 - No Stock Infinity System
I'm going to attempt this install tomorrow so thank you very much for such a through install walk through!! I was the most worried about how to run my microphone wire but now I feel pretty confident with how to do it.

I tried to clarify in the description that my truck does not have the infinity system. I believe you need to purchase a different wiring harness that compatible with the stock system. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

I did all this but got no sound . Will it matter if it's a infinity system ?
Good install video. Now all you need to do is run a vacuum and some 409 through the interior and you will be set! Plus you should see your gas mileage improve as well. LOL

Do you have SWC on your steering wheel? What wires are they? Colors? and Pin location from the harness?
I have a 2004 dodge 1500 and I managed to get the radio on but no sound. I read it was something with the Infinity sound system. do you anyway around this problem, been working on it for 3 days now getting a little agitated 😂. Thanks man any help would be appreciated!!!

For an infinity amp, which wires did you splice to make it turn on

+Brittani K The faceplate/adapter came with my headunit because I ordered from Sonicelectronix.
I'd suggest using a couple of laps of black tape to keep your wires together instead of those zip ties, thet get caught on every bloody ledge all the time.

No, I don't have steering wheel controls.
I believe that takes an extra kit... 40 or 50 bucks I think

The one yellow wire from the radio went to both the yellow wires on the harness adapter?
I'm pretty sure that's what you're supposed to do. Did it with the two black wires as well. It works with no issues for 2 years now :)
Loblo good video. Also installing a Kenwood unit into 06 ram. Hooked up wires but did not work for me. Do you not have to connect the mute wire and illumination remote continued wire with harness. Did you have 2 yellow wires hooking into one yellow wires. 2 from radio harness splicing into one from aftermarket unit yellow wire
IIRC, I didn't do anything with the remote continued, brown mute, or orange illumination wires.
Use the remote wire from the head unit wiring, not the truck wiring for an amplifier. It'll be blue and white labeled power control.
Yes, I had 2 yellow wires coming to one, same with the black wires.

If you order a head unit from sonicelectronix_com, they ask for your vehicle info and they provide you all the install stuff you need. I got the wiring harness and the dash kit from SonicElectronix. You can order the wiring harness separately.
what is the piece that goes around the aftermarket stereo to take up that space called

what did you use to connect the radio antenna. I have installed a Bluetooth jvc but the antenna will not go in. Please help
+Michael Morales You'll need an antenna adapter. It's about $5-7. I'm not sure the exact one you'll need, but hopefully that will get you started.

Can I hook up 2 things to that power control. Red ignition switch wire from harness doesn't work?
I don't know about that. I wouldn't recommend hooking up the ignition wire to that. Try checking the connection in both harnesses. I'm sorry I'm not too much help. :(
No I ended up hooking it up to cigarette lighter and my amp remote wire to that blue wire you said to and I'm in business. Big help Thanks.

What does the amp wire/remote wire do?
A remote wire allows an amplifier turn on only when the head unit turns on.
What is heat shrinking exactly? How do you do it correctly?
It is material that shrinks when heated. You can pick it up in electronics area of auto part stores. You slide it on one of the wires, solder the two wires together, slide the heat shrink over the connection, and then apply heat. It basically makes it all one wire. I prefer solder and heat shrinking over the traditional crimp connectors.

I'm not sure. Try looking for a wiring guide for your year, make, and model of car.

yes i have a double din face touch 2003 ram. you have to trim the stock faceplate and a little cutting in back...just take your time...have a dremel...all plastic..trims easily.
How did you hook up the antenna? That collar is in the way

I just bought a 04 ram and can anyone tell me the head unit says there's a 6 cd player in it, but it won't take cd's.
Is there a CD player in there or did I just get my Chain yanked!
Hmm... I'm not sure bro. My stock head unit was only a single CD. Maybe the disc changer is located somewhere else inside the cab?
