    Should your new MAX 15/17 and G3 not match the Power Limits and various other functions featured in this review, update your BIOS and Control Center. I typically upload at FHD/60 but the renders seem more clear at 30fps. Moving forward I may just increase the resolution and stay at 30fps for better clarity. I'm limited to using my phone to film with, just FYI.

      You sound like you wanted that we take a LSD Pills to watch your Video, dont blink , understand everything around you ehhehe Video full of understandings :)
      I'm not sure about this laptop, is too thin that makes laptop hot or not hot, is up to you but fans sound loud ....hmm make laptop thicker and you find space to insert more heatpipes or other cooling solution.

    So, after watching endless reviews on what my next upgrade will be, this has got to be the BEST laptop review I've ever seen. It's like you cherry picked all the non standard things I'm looking for and told them to me. It's the little things. Like putting a quarter next to the laptop so I can see just how tall it is. Giving a reference to the game and then going into detail about the performance as a user not just the options anyone can read off a spec sheet. As someone who travels, games and produces videos this is the exact type of laptop I want. But more importantly it's the way they have built it. Main stream companies Msi, Asus etc seem cookie cutter assembly line crafts with the voltages and fan curves. The way the software and bios are set up it's as if it was hand built by someone with the certain specifics of this in mind. The Craftsmanship of the trackpad and musshyness of a keyboard are paramount, and other reviews don't give the level of depth that yours does, by far. Fantastic job. I've watched a lot of your videos and I'd have to agree, this is by far the best review I've seen. Please continue to do all your future reviews in this style. There is deffinatly and audience like myself who throughout enjoy the time and effort it takes to hammer out something like this. People may not realize just how time consuming this is. Great job my friend! Great job....👌

    Excellent review.
    So just for everyones info I pre-ordered my machine as soon as preorders went live and have been using my own personal Max-17 since May 24 2020. I have the 2080 SUPER Max-q version. Stock firestrike scores compared to Bob's 2070 SUPER shows a modest bump in graphics performance at around 23K-24K. So if anyone was wondering if the $350 was worth it to upgrade you can make your own choice based on that.
    Also PLEASE download all drivers off of the Eluktronics website for this device. Mine had some missing updates. Especially the THX Spacial Audio download. This nearly tripled the volume on my speakers and sound awesome after updating.

      Terreos I’d say if the buyer’s going for that 240 Hz refresh rate, it might be worth it. Also, crazy to think that top end gaming laptop GPUs made today are getting close to 1080 Ti level performance (within about 5,000 points on a stock blower 1080 Ti). In the Alienware Graphics Amplifier using an Alienware 17 R5 with an i9-8950HK, my FE 1080 Ti got 27,076, so I can only imagine that if there’s a gaming laptop that can handle the power that a Max-P 2080 Super laptop GPU can dish out, that it will get to where my 1080 Ti is at right now.
      Here’s the link for my 1080 Ti comparisons just so anyone looking at this knows where I got them: www.3dmark.com/compare/fs/21960138/fs/15237005/fs/18389275

    • @Terreos
      @Terreos 4 года назад +2

      @@zgoaty9235 Very much agree. It is a required upgrade for either the Super GPU options and they both can pump out some impressive numbers. ELuktronics is very much bringing out the best versions of these machines as they can and unleashing their true power in such a small package. I saw some leaks for the Area 51m R2 that has the full 2080 SUPER Max-p and it was getting right around 29K for the GPU score. But I'll believe that once it's released. Plus that's a much larger machine. So as much as I'd like something that powerful I think the Max-17 is a winner in the thin and light department. Hopefully once the next generation of thunderbolt is released and we get more bandwidth eGPU solutions will close the gap in performance lost and we can have as close to a desktop performance as possible.
      Thanks for the link.

      Gaming laptops these days, especially high end ones, are finally viable alternatives to high end desktop gaming machines. I don't think any of us could even imagine saying that just 5 years back considering how big of a gap there was between a high end gaming laptop then vs a high end gaming computer, but the jump in gaming laptop quality has been amazing for the past few years. I'm currently using a lower end ASUS TUF laptop with a 1650 and 3550H, but I think I'll be getting one of these Max 17s soon, possibly the 2070 Super version. I do wish there were some 2070S and 2080S laptops paired with the Ryzen 4800H though.

    • @alexsurber9404
      @alexsurber9404 4 года назад

      @@aninfinitemindofmusicandreams I kinda disagree...for high res AND refresh gaming the current laptop offerings are still pretty mediocre at best. There is no way I would use a 2080 max q or p to drive a 3440x1440 at 100hz, and I wouldn't go with anything less than a full desktop 2080 if I was building today for anything over 1080p. An ITX 2080 ti build has been doable since the cards release, and it runs circles around the "viable alternatives".

    I needed a laptop for intense computations that occasionally can benefit from a GPU. It should also be a lightweight laptop because I move everyday from home to office.
    I looked into Dell XPS 15, MSI GS66, and Asus G14. But this MAX 15 is hands down the best choice considering the price, weight, and overall, boosted performance.
    Would be perfect with a XPS-like bottomless bezel and camera on the upper side of the screen.
    Thanks for the great review.

      @@confidentlocal8600 I bought last year's max15 with rtx 2070 super and been using it for almost a year now. It's been great, definitely better than my roommate's Dell XPS (he bought it at the same time). I've had zero problems with it, unlike my friend, which is a bit strange considering XPS is supposed to have a higher build quality.
      This year's max15 seems to be even better. Other than the webcam location, I only have two complaints: bad audio quality and very heavy charger. (You can buy two chargers, one for home, one for the office.)

    Very solid review 👌. 17.3" laptop, such a powerful and power hungry hardware, 99 WHr battery and still weights below 5 lbs, is really a great design. I just wish they could release a Ryzen 4000 version with 90 WHr battery which could be both a powerhouse and travel companion, considering Ryzen 7 4800H consumes lot less power. They could have implemented that Fn key switch directly in Windows using Fn+ESC, like Lenovo does. Another interesting thing is the only IGP Mode which actually saves battery than Optimus mode even using integrated graphics. If I remember correctly, this feature was available in Lenovo IdeaPad 720 with 7700HQ+GTX 1050 To and you showed that in your review of that laptop.

    This video seemed more like a tutorial than a review. It would be nice to understand where this laptop stands in its class in terms of weight, display, thermals, battery life, etc. A few negatives I picked up for me personally - they should have maxed out the battery to 100 wh, the TB3 port should accept charging from a battery or 65-100w adapter, up-firing speakers would be great in a 17"er, and nose cams should just not be a thing anymore (Gigabyte, you too).

    Hey Bob! Got my Max-17 a week ago, been running lots of tests, the DPC latency was of interest to me. I found that disabling the wireless and using a wired connection gave better DPC latency, still not great, but certainly better.
    Update on this, disable Bluetooth Device (Personal Area Network)
    under network adapters and DPC latency comes down a lot.

    Outstanding Review! Really makes this laptop seem ideal for a power user - love the option to game at quieter fan levels. My biggest complaint with all power laptops are those fans. My one question would be - is there a lot of modulation in fan noise at each mode, or do they tend to be stable at a set RPM? I would dislike it if the fans were constantly adjusting annoyingly.
    Your review, with some of these QOL features described (easy to change fan/power modes, mux switch, simple software) makes this look like a really interesting machine to consider. I’m still pretty much in love with my desktop setup - but I’ve always dreamed of a great all in one laptop to replace it.

A top spec G14 with all the bells and whistles is £200 less and more portable. We don’t have the prices yet but I don’t expect a higher end XPS 17 to be significantly more expensive.

    I hope Eluktronics will adapt these performance profiles to the RP15 / RP17 , in your reviews of these products we have seen that changing the performance profile don't affect the FPS in games at all and only increases the temps, which is super weird...
    The CPU wattage changes, the temps increase, but there's absolutely no change in performance. Very weird indeed...

    Bob, are external display outputs wired to the dGPU? This could explain why it's powered on in iGPU only mode.
    This is an important factor for Linux users, as PRIME offloading allows for the best possible graphics switching experience, but has limitations when the external display outputs are driven by the dGPU (they will not work). If the iGPU or mux runs the external displays then we're in business.
