Dave, just watched the video from Ronnie Scott's and the BR band. Sir, you killed it. I first saw Buddy in '66 and many times after that. You preserved your own style while at the same time dropped in some of the Buddy-isms to make it sound like Buddy in a respectful and tasteful way. The band sounded great and you "drove" them in just the right way. Thanks for incredible tribute and for making my day!!
One of my biggest influences for jazz/fusion style. Dave is always so flawless and smooth. He makes it look effortless. It's been years since his DWB came through Dayton OH @ Gillys, and a drum clinic always preceded that show. Talk about an amazing Dave Weckl day! My brain was ready to explode by the end of the show! So glad you added this content Dave and staff. Your insert pictures of you at your old sets are a lot of fun and give a nice flavor to this informative video.
What I really like is you commenting about not trying to sound like someone else; making sure you come up with your own voice using bits and pieces of other drum techniques as appropriate.
Looking forward to the rest of your 2017, big band is always a welcome audio relief from the 21st century commercial scene.

Dave... i remember seeing you back stage in connecticut. (i think shelton ct.) and i saw you warming up along with steve smith for the buddy rich big band. i was 18 at the time. i was soooo stoked to see you. you signed my pro mark sticks (not really my type of sticks, but its all i had to get your signature.) the best memory of my life. As always, wearing black, and on your yamaha kit.. that day, you were playing on a light greenish type of kit. Its really hard to see you in this grey hair and gotee you got going on... such a long ways from the 90's. great memories though. Its amazing how musicians now rely on social media and youtube and other sources online to network with other musicians and get gigs.. back then, you had to purchase practice videos in order to learn from some of your top drummer.. now, everything is accessible through youtube... i purchased my first dave weckl video at SAMASH back to basics in 1997... your the reason i started playing drums. amazing how much 1 individual impacts another and so on and so forth... keep up the great work.
Buddy might have been an influence as he was for thousands of drummers but not many have bettered him but Dave surely has ; the speed of his ideas I don’t think have been bettered and the independence he shows. I can watch drummers from 30 years that I admired and now don’t rate nearly as highly but Dave consistently gets better and more watchable. Go Dave!!!

that´s it, Dave .... i always love all of these videos and guys who switched for one tom above the kick .... love these kind of experimentation (not going the same way like the others in 90´s). and love the change of 24,16,13 .... beautifully tuned kit, very balanced .... everything is nice. ....

I've got recording customs 10 12 13 14 standard..... 16 by 16 everything mounted on rims mounts...... 22 x 16 bass drum
just bought early nineties Rock Tour customs 10 12 14 15 16 all hanging power toms. 22 by 16 bass drum. putting clear G2s on top clear G1s on bottom. they are cannons.
I think Dave's "go to" when Phoenix isn't available for renting is the oak custom. lots of footage online in the past 10 years with him and the oak drums

They made the live custom with Oak shells now. Never played them.
