Yeah. He’s musical.
I find this amusing. When I want inspiration, I’ll run one of his videos. I can not play anything like he can- But because of the utter ease at which he does play, it embues me to sit down and mentally construct an ease before I even strike the head. He’s the only guy that works on me that way.

Dave has been the man for 40+ yrs. I've been listening to him since I was 9yrs old. I am 50yrs old now and like fine wine, he gets better with time.
I'm 57 and just like you I've listened to Dave for many yrs....His chops are sweet and his groove is timeless.
Technique, feel, pocket, groove etc.... Dave has it all, this is pure dedication we are watching here, look how relaxed he is when playing....Bravo!
What more can you say about Weckl? I have been playing over 40 years and can blow chops and licks all day in the practice room like a lot of cats out there. But laying it down with time, feel, precision and flow in an actual song like Weckl can? He kills it every time! A true "one of a kind" DW is!

He's just the most musical player. The vocabulary is effortless, it's all dynamic, tasteful, exceptionally well performed and the sound of his kit is spot on. The most advanced and mature playing at the highest of levels. For my money the best there is. There's arguments to be made and I don't truly believe in a best drummer when there's so much talent but when I hear Dave's playing it always seems really special.

When I purchased the album Master Plan in the 90's I just could not figure out how he was doing what he was doing ...
Being able to actually see him play up close is really a pleasure and brings to life the pure magic that is his mastery

My Wife and I met you at the I.M.A.C Theater in Long ISland.. you did a Gig w Steve Smith and he had to split early.. you were in the lobby waiting for a ride and you hung w my wife and I for like 20 min and BS'd Im SURE you dont remember but I sure do.. Smooth as silk and so in the pocket, as per usual! He makes it look ridiculously easy. It's not that groove is really difficult, it's just the way he articulates his message 'musically'. Dave's playing has transcended the technical aspect of drumming, he's simply having a wise and beautiful conversation.

GREAT PIECE! I started following this drummer when I first saw him at the Buddy Rich memorial hosted by Buddy's daughter Cathy. Steve Gadd & Vinnie Colaiuta were on the bill. I still think of Dave as a sticking engineer with some of the most incredible feeling finesse chops on the planet. I can't get tired of watching him play.. I've learned so much from observing his hands...

In 1995 my family took a trip to DC and my parents, knowing my interest in music, got us tickets to a jazz club. The Mike Stern trio. They saw an ad in the paper. I remember before the show hearing a guy say into the pay phone, "we're about to see the best drummer in the world." That's the first time I heard Dave Weckl play and my life hasn't been the same since.
Dave is a musical genius in his working clothes. That's why he can make it look so easy to groove with endless creativity, and flow.

I remember when my son who is now 39 yrs old, was around 10 and I took him to a show in Sacramento to hear Dave play. Mr. Weckl was tearing it up and my son turned around and said "dad how come I hear two drummers playing?" 😂 He literally thought there were two drummers playing because he was so fast.
I could watch Dave play all day. His playing is so graceful & smooth.

Dave Weckl is an F'n monster because of his musical chops, not his technical chops. There are a lot of guys with crazy mechanical chops that don't have the musical chops. Tony Williams, Vinnie Colaiuta, Steve Gadd, and Dave Weckl are guys that successfully bridge musicality with good chops.

Dave Weckl is a great master of the drums.. I always remember when I heard his performances with Chick Corea.. Another Master.. In that famous band Electrica.. An unthinkable dream of musical performance.. He will always be a great reference!!
Dave Weckl, as revered as he is, is yet somehow still under-rated outside of some musical circles. He's just gotten better over time, still to today, and his mastery is so fluid and groovy yet dynamically brilliant too. And here he's playing some matched grip even! Someone else here commented this and they're exactly correct: There's a reason Dave Weckl is so many drummers' favorite drummer.
Aside from all of the normal accolades regarding Dave's brilliance, he is (feel free to chime in) the most relaxed drummer I have ever seen.

Been listening to Dave Weckl since 1992 when I first heard his "Heads Up" album which is by far one of the best albums of all time. I still listen to it to this day and play that album during class as students are coming in or during a group project! They love his music!! Awesome job on this song Dave! Thank you for inspiring millions of us! Speaking of which, my entire style of playing drums changed when I heard your "Heads Up" album. Didn't know a drummer could play like that! Anyway, thank you Dave! Keep playing brother!!
Well, what can one say? Dave never gets old, he's the king of smooth and silk. He owns those drums and is literally an artist on any canvas! I dig his groove and he's always right there in the pocket!
