    Awesome! The thumbnail and pics were something and you did a great job finishing it out! Yep, you do have to call stuff out, so a company knows what's going on and address an issue. It's not uncommon for a company to not even that there is an issue, because there a number of people and businesses involved. It shouldn't have left the machine shop with any oil or particles just as a baseline as that's just a part of doing professional work. If it's a metal that rusts, they will apply a thin coat of oil after it's cleaned to protect the surfaces. The Soap and splash have a nice scent and I think over time as a younger crowd comes into the community, that the scents will probably change from all the heavy colognes to something more along these lines. Personally I don't want to punch people in the face with a scent I'm wearing or give the impression of being a male gigolo-lol! But that's me anyway! Have a great one buddy!

      @@lastshadow9351 Yeah that finishing oil was still very much on there - not a make or break thing, but definitely gave me the ick. The water on my first wash was black.... 🤢 But I digress - it comes off and it's not a make or break it thing.
      Overall happy with how it came out!

    Wow, you did a great polish job on that razor. It makes me want the Apex in SS and polish it. The Aluminum is awesome and is working great for me especially when i have carpal tunnel issues since the handle is larger and is so lightweight. Awesome intro. It would be great to have you do a comparison between the SS and the Aluminum one. Have a great week buddy

      Oh man - maybe I'll need to get someone to share one to compare!? That's a great idea - I am also curious how they would do side by side.
      Overall the razor really peforms well. But the weight man, it's hefty! I'd be hesitant to recommend it to someone who likes lighter razors for sure.
      Thanks so much again Mike for being here!

    Something to note PAA has the Sample Aftershaves for a dollar and twenty-five cents that gives you a great idea if you will like it or not. This was worth a second view.

      @@mikeperritte dude I preach it, don't buy PAA ever, of you can avoid it - without testing it with their samples! 👍 I spent like 80-90$ a few years ago and just ordered everything, tested the samples - found what I liked and then PIFFd the them so others could do the same! Best way to do it IMHO!

    Nice shave!
    I’ve had all versions of Apex. The AL is the reg plate only. The SS is available in reg and plus. IMO the reg feels too much like the plus so I just kept the plus. I think the plus is tad smoother as well. I have the Satin finish and it looks great. Shaves smooth and efficient. It is a rare 2 passer for me(if I am in more of a rush)with black birdish efficiency with much less blade feel. Comparison idea. 😊Love the grippiness of handle. Wish it was a few grams less. One of my top if not my top razor. To me It’s like an Overlander on steroids. I suggested to Caleb TI should be an option.
    I haven’t done a side by side with the Drakkant but totally different shavers. Drakkant more CB esque as in shallow shaver. Apex more traditional angle.

    • @SubieShaves
      @SubieShaves  4 месяца назад +1

      I've done it the same way for years, and it definitely takes practice and a lot of patience. I always tell people to start or "try it" with something that can be damaged. Polishing is an art form if you ask me, and it may not come out how you'd expect the first few tries. I want to say it again, polishing can also take a razor out of tolerance - and it has risks in ruining the razor.
      If you're looking to just spiffy it up a bit, I always am impressed with the power of Flitz and a soft rag!
      I did a long discussion and showcase a long time ago here - just a humble Dremel and paste:

    Hey Subie, my apologies in advanec for bothering you with a question that you probably see often.. - if price is not an issue , which double edge safety razor would you recommend for someone that has been using a merkur 34c for almost 2 years now ?
    another closed comb like the merkur 34c? maybe open comb? slant? adjustable ? Rocnel Sailor ? rex ? tatara ? other brand or style ?
    thank you in advance.

    • @SubieShaves
      @SubieShaves  3 месяца назад

      Man that's a tough one!! How about another 34c? If you've liked it enough to solo it for 2 years - maybe a back up could be nice. The threads are known to give out after time.
      It's a huge, vast market - coming in all shapes, bevels, materials, and performance. Do you want a complete change from your 34C feel? Are you wanting way more blade feel, or perhaps you want to try the ultra mild? Or maybe one of the new Pivoting razors / SE that uses DE blades?
      I honestly don't think I can blindly just say - you'll love this or that with how much is available. What I will say - is more money usually doesn't mean better shave. The Merkur Progress comes to mind, often regarded as one of the best adjustable shavers - and under 70$. I often have to remind myself - a 900$ razor will LIKELY give you a BBS that is very similar to the BBS of your 34c. Different shave experience, but likely,. similar result. There's some razors IMHO that are worth an investment (Rex Konsul for example) - but again - shave as close as my other favorites that are indeed less money.
      For me, I love the new hyper beveled modern razors and feel like everyone should try a Henson - I've given them as gifts even. My Yates 921 feels very similar, but for me, I get a closer shave with the 921. Both are excellent. Yates takes more time to get and more thoughts on how you design it.
      Like I said hard to say - lots of excellent shavers IMHO..I would try and find a few you like the look of, think the weight/performance make sense, and then do some review hunting to make the final choice. Also keep in mind warranty - try and buy one from a company that stands by their product.
      Also, remember, if you hate it, there's always buy and sell pages for razors.
      Thanks for watching and the question!

    do you think Apex with + plate is more aggressive than the Ti Drakkant with + plate? i could head shave with my Ti Drakkant without any discomfort. But am having hardtime with the Apex. maybe the weight make the difference. Thanks!

    • @SubieShaves
      @SubieShaves  4 месяца назад

      I would say for me, the Apex feels a slightly bit more efficient but somehow is also a bit smoother. I think the scallops on the Drakkant give it a slight bit of blade feel that the Apex doesn't have - which helps keep you from pressing - where as the APEX is deceptively VERY mild on blade feel.
      And yes I think the 2x weight also really takes the performance up a notch.
      For me it's just as good if not a closer faster shave - but I had to remind myself to not press, to avoid from getting irritation.
      If you're struggling with the Apex + you could try swapping to a lighter handle - that may give you a more similar shave to the Drakkant Ti. Just an idea.
      Thanks for the question and watching!

      @@tol3529is the finish on your Drakant the same as apex? I know satin finish razors are not as smooth as machined/polished, it also creates drag as it grips the skin.

      @@Cr0sswalk I always am transparent here - and I won't lie, I was a bit underwhelmed with how the top cap and baseplate looked. Some of the burs would have made the razor very uncomfortable, not to mention the grit and grime.
