    I also got the everyday card as my first AMEX but I was able to the Platinum card for the 75,000 point sign up bonus. So where it wasn't the 100k it was still more than the normal bonus.

    My first AMEX card was Gold. Then I upgraded to Platinum with a bonus offer. It worked out great. I do agree that just start with Platinum. It's not hard to get and the strength of the card is good.

    My first Amex card was the gold card, then I upgraded to PRG last year. Suddenly, I was inquisitive in the credit card system, so I was doing my own research by watching Sebby's and Credit Shifu's videos. You guys are awesome and thanks for providing these awesome card information. I got a Plat offer of 75k last month, so I got this instead of upgrading my PRG. Thus, I am holding two Amex cards. I was thinking of getting rid of PRG, but couldn't ignore the x2 MRP that I can use daily (Plus, $100 airline credit). Plus, I have Chase Sapphire Preferred, but I am getting rid of that soon - I am barely using it, lol. Instead, I will get a cashback card probably Uber Visa!

    I feel if you don't travel at least 3 times a year, you can't get true value from that card. You are better off getting the CSR. Unless you like Centurion lounges, the amex doesn't provide much more than the CSR. What do you say Sebby?

    My first Amex Card is the Blue Cash Everyday Card. I got it on your recommendation since my biggest expense is groceries. I don’t feel I am missing out on the Amex platinum card because I have the CSR. There is some chance I may go for the WF propel Amex because I have a WF Portfolio checking and there is some sort of relationship bonus with the Propel Card.

    If you get the platinum first, I believe you won’t be elegible for the bonuses for the green and gold. If you go after the 100k for the platinum, you’ll miss the bonuses from the other cards…so going for the platinum first doesn’t make sense if you want the other bonuses.

    Loving the thought process. Seems counterintuitive, but the math is there. Don't know if I'll ever do the Platinum. My first and only AmEx card to date is the Blue Cash Everyday card. Use it for grocery runs when Discover and Freedom aren't "in season". I do eventually want an MR earner, but mostly for special deals (e.g. the recent Amazon deal).

    So like you can use a credit card to pay tuition (at least at my college) so hitting minimum spend could be the easiest thing ever just making payments with the card and paying it off and repeat if necessary, the argument against students getting the platinum would be the annual fee and the value they could get out of it because you’re in class so you’re not gonna be able to reap the benefits.

    In Canada some of our Amex cards are different than the states. I have one Amex card and it's the Essential card. Mainly because it has an 8.99% AIR. I kind of regret getting it because after more research I realized I could use the Amex Blue Sky card. They cant switch me and said I'd have to apply for it.

    I regret getting the American Express Green card as my first American Express card. I got that card before I knew that signup bonuses existed. My dad was pushing me to get that card since it had the lowest annual fee and you had to pay it off every month. If I knew that signup bonuses existed back then, I would have totally skipped out on the green card and gotten something like the Gold Premier Rewards card. If you do have a Platinum card, I think having the everyday card is very important just in case you run into financial trouble so that you can protect your Membership Rewards points.

    I spend ~100k on a PRG and have been targeted for 175k after 25k spend(100k for $10k then 75k for $15k within the first 3 months). It was through the mail. However, I knew I couldn't meet the spend without MS, so I didn't apply for that offer. It hurt my soul. However I did get 100k for the Platinum(with $100 off the annual fee as a statement credit) as well as 75k for the PRG and 75k for the BGR. I still spend ~$100k a year with them and still get targeted offers for the Business Plat when I log in. Patience is key here. I signed up for the public offer for the Schwab version when it was 40k and it went to 60k shortly after. I called in to see if I could get the 20k and had no luck. After that, I made it a rule to never sign up for an MR card unless it was a historic high(of course, the min spend has to be within reach also). You're probably right about them targeting non customers, but as it is with everything else in this hobby, YMMV.

    My first AMEX card was both the Everyday card and the Blue Cash. I applied for both of them the same day and received a call from AMEX afterwards, wanting to make sure it wasn't an accident. Now I have the AMEX Gold as well, but I haven't gotten another card since I want the CSR but over 5/24 until next year. I barely use my everyday and blue cash now. I would have been happier with the amex premium SPG. The Platnium SPG rewards are a bit weak (no lounge access at the hotel) and if you travel internationally, it is hard to use the credit on the airline. I am basically traveling around the earth once this year but will spend zero on baggage fees and food.

I have gotten about 8 credit cards in the last 3 months. lol I have hit a wall now and got turned down twice for Chase Sapphire and the INK card a few days ago. So...I guess I will wait for til at least the spring til I apply for anything because my Credit Score took a major hit. 20pts down. It will go back up in a month or so I suspect. He’s saying apply for a CFF or CFU card. (Let’s say you get the CFF) After 1-3 months, apply for the CFU credit card. (At this point you are utilizing 2 of 5 card approvals within the 5/24 rule. After 6-12 months of good credit history, apply for the CSP or CSR (Your only subjected to get one of these cards!). This will finish off your chase trifecta. The key is, to obtain you Chase Trifecta, whilst making way for other cards amongst the market while staying under Chase’s 5/24 rule. Hope this helps

    Any knowledge on the Amex Optima card?

    Have lots of personal spend over next year. I checked and was target for Amex Plat 100K offer yesterday.
    However I am currently 4/24 (all Chase cards)
    And wanted to switch to business cards at this point until I drop down again and I am able to pick up a few Chase Keeper cards.
    Thoughts on best first Amex Business card: Platinum? BGR? SPG Biz? BBP?

      @AskSebby  6 лет назад

      I just wouldn't grab any Amex cards since it might screw up the targeting.
      CIU/CIC/CIP and finish off 5/24 seem like the best bet (vs. risking it).

    What credit score, income would you expect to need to get CS Amex Plat?

    I'm currently at 3/24, planning to app CFU next week. Have CSR & CF now. Was thinking my 5th would be some Chase cobranded Hotel card. // Poked the CardMatch just to see and I have AmEx Platinum 100kMR/$5k and PRG 50kMR/$1k offers. Cool! // buuuut, how rare are these? Should I consider changing my plan to grab one of the AmEx's?

      @AskSebby  6 лет назад

      If you don't have an Amex card yet: I would finish off 5/24. The offers will still be around.
      If you already have an Amex card, I would probably pick up the Platinum (we've seen the PRG 50k but with higher min spend so less of a concern).
      If you're waiting, 5th should probably be SW Priority of United Explorer given the "One Lane Rule" with SPG/Marriott.

    I'm an authorized user on someone else's Amex, does this make me already a customer in Amex's eyes?

    I just picked up the SPG card to get the 75K bonus to go along with the Chase Marriott 100K bonus I just hit minimum spend on. I'll see if they send me a 100K offer in a few months.

      Reminder that you have a 3 day window for the SPG Luxury card due to the "One Lane Rule" starting on Aug 26.

    I have a 50k ($1k spend) offer from Amex for the PRG card, would you suggest getting this or waiting for the 100k offer for the Platinum?

      @fulim226 6 лет назад

      Cyril Ogude wow 1k spend for 50k MR for the gold? That's Definitely a no-brainer, the offer they sent me is 2k spend for 30k

    • @AskSebby
      @AskSebby  6 лет назад

      YMMV but I would hold off.
      Many people do the PRG + Plat on the same day to take advantage of the targeting.

    Question: I currently have the AMEX Green card and was planning on upgrading to the Gold premier rewards. Should I get the gold card or go for the platinum?

      Upgrading means you're locking yourself out of the PRG signup bonus... for no reason: www.asksebby.com/blog/should-you-upgrade-your-american-express-card

    Hey Sebastian, I've been trying to upgrade my Amex Optima card for a while now. I have talked to many reps and no luck, they tell me there is no card I can upgrade to from the Optima card. Should I cancel this card and take the credit score ding or should I keep it?

    • @AskSebby
      @AskSebby  6 лет назад

      Is there an AF? If not, just keep it. Otherwise, I would keep calling.

    Can I get the Schwab platinum bonus sign up offer if I already have the regular Platinum Card? And if so, should I cancel my normal card during a certain time period when I get the Schwab platinum?

      Yes, different products.
      I recommend keeping cards for at least 1 year (12 months).

    I just signed up for the Delta Amex card and I'm regretting it, i want to downgrade or upgrade to a different one... is it possible? I haven't received the card by mail yet.

    • @AskSebby

      I would just keep it at this point. Downgrading is considered abuse per their terms. They happily blacklist / shutdown people for perceived abuse.
