  • IMAGE IS FLIPPED!!! I promise I'm holding it the right way lmao....anyway...
    Continuing in the vein of ~different~ quarantine content, I've decided to try out some new educational artistic endeavors for fun! I know how privileged I am (despite all the unemployment for me and every performing classical musician and slowly watching our industry crumble to dust 😅 ) to be doing a project like this, and I hope you enjoy watching me trying (and failing-lots of failing) at something new. For all the professional strings players out there, especially those who play mandolin= you can judge. I know it's a hot dumpster fire! But at least I'm having fun! I'd also like to post some links below to the youtubers who helped me learn on Day 1. For the second part of this video I'll post links for every video watched.

    The reason that it won’t stayed tuned is because the strings are new, it’s like shoes, you have to break them in. :) Eventually you won’t have to tune it nearly as often. Happy playing. It’s one of my favorite instruments to play. ❤️

    You might be bored but you're never boring. A lot of my relatives are bluegrass musicians and I guess mandolins can get pretty pricey, if it's like a guitar the cheap ones probly are difficult to keep in tune.

      Agreed! And re: tuning think it might be the case. I watched a ton of videos and have a good ear so I know right after tuning it sounds great- just gets out of tune too quickly. I’m looking into adjusting the pegs themselves which I think are a little loose

    • @AngelAzzarraOpera
      @AngelAzzarraOpera  4 года назад +1

      Idk if that’s the right terminology. I mean on the back of the instrument- the tuning pegs have a good tension.

      @@AngelAzzarraOpera I'm sure your "ear" is great and there are many factors that can cause tuning problems on an instrument. One of my teachers told me that when practicing tympani one's ear goes flat (I think) after a while. Idk about that, maybe it is an issue for singers? My gf teaches voice and I am trying to learn about all this. Love your channel.

    Oh, I can play mandolin, but I haven't done it in about 3 years or so. But I used to play in an orchestra so I didn't play full chords, just one pair of strings at a time using tremolo, the chords were created by the entire orchestra. About tuning, if the strings are new (and it doesn't look or sound like a great quality mandolin, even if I've seen much worse), it will take some time until they settle, usually a few days, it depends how often you play. It's the same with guitars.

    You're just a little air away from being...a breathy mandolin girl! Do it! Become what you hate! Join the horde!
    Seriously though, great job and you should name it after a classic diva. Personally, I'd go with Leontyne.

    wow you are a fast learner :D I have a vocal question! Is it possible to blend head voice with whistle register the same/similar way you blend chest with head and create a mix? I guess that would sound like a super headvoice! But can this actually happen?

    Regarding the tuning: I play the guitar and if I string my guitar with new strings, it takes a few days of tuning until they are in tune for a longer time. I'm not sure if this explanation applies to the Mandolin and your situation. However, I like your videos very much. Myself having no idea about opera, they are very informative and entertaining. Have fun learning the mandolin. :)

      Thank you, both for the info on tuning and the compliment. 😇 I’ll see if the strings settle in the next few days and try to just keep retuning them.

    Angel, do yourself a favour, spend a bit more and get a better instrument. I have played guitar for 20 years and also play around on a mandolin and a banjo....those really cheap instruments are REALLY hard to play and a better quality instrument would be much more enjoyable. I'm not saying to go really expensive, but for around 300ish you will get something that is much easier to play. And it will aound better too!
