You forgot to mention his completed opera, Genevieve, a tale of marital fidelity in 8th Century Brabant. Apparently, that was a thing :) Love Ian Bostridge. An interesting fact about him was that he was all set for a life as a History academic, having studied up to D Phil at both Oxford and Cambridge. His doctoral thesis was on the witchcraft in public life in the 16th and 17th centuries. During his long years of study, he sang in amateur choirs (alhough they are of a pretty high standard in those universities) and did not turn to singing professionally until he was 30. Fashionably late to the party, perhaps. Lieder are his forte I think, his recordings of Die Schone Mullerin, Wintereisse and Schwanengesang are all really good. Also excellent in Britten: his Serenade for tenor, horn, and strings is a wonderful performance. He was also very good in productions of Death in Venice, and the Turn of the Screw. He's incredibly tall and willowy. I once say him in a Marriage of Figaro, he must have been singing Almaviva, but the only thing I can remember is him towering over the rest of the cast, and having to bend to engage with them dramatically. He looked like a reed blowing in the breeze! Oh, just remembered, Figaro in that production was Bryn Terfel, who was awesome.
Thanks for the info. I agree Schubert always excelled at Piano and Voice pieces. I am hoping you will do a reaction to Voctave. I think you would like them. Beautiful voices.
Wellllll this was nice to wake up to ^^ Oh the modern take on Faust was made by Kamelot with their two concept albums Epica and The Black Halo. Really nice stuff. What would also be lovely for your channel is linking the videos in the box down the video ;)
Wow, thank you for sharing - would love more song rec videos like this 🥰 Also if you're taking reaction requests, it would be super interesting to get your insight as an opera singer to the Korean crossover quartet Forestella esp bc of the members different backgrounds (2 members are opera singers, 1 is a musical actor, and 1 was a research chemist with no formal training in singing / amateur rock band vocalist) and their performances of a variety of styles! I'd say their their Bohemian Rhapsody or maybe Sumi Jo's 나 가거든 cover makes for a good introduction to their voices. Sorry for the lengthy comment - I appreciate it if you've made it to the end!! P.S. I don't think the song links were posted 😅 edit: added the "in singing" to the no formal training in case that sounded like he was an unqualified chemist whoops
Thanks so much Angel! 😍 here's where you can find the performances I mentioned on YT - BH: ruclips.net/video/nxUASv1Z2TU/видео.html, 나 가거든: ruclips.net/video/ruLxZr-ZN1Q/видео.html
