- I picked up this lick from a Smokin' Joe Kubek song, and it reminded me of something Jimi Hendrix played over the V chord in Red House. In this lesson I'll show you where this pattern comes from and how to use it over the V and the IV chord during the last 4 bars of a 12-bar blues solo.

In blues music, the 5 chord is that part for me, where you gotta play with feeling or it’s just gonna sound stale, no matter what notes you play. Anthony has such a great way of showing you that, without completely spoon feeding it to you. He leads the horse to water, so to speak.
You changed my guitar life over 10 years ago with your explanation of the minor pentatonic boxes. Thanks, Mr. Anthony
A+ lesson! Thank you for sharing and walking us through this.
I have often thought of this as sort of a V chord Mixolydian Pentatonic, playing the major pentatonic ( in this case E) but throw in the 7th. If you mix in the E7 arpeggio triads along with it some more cool options show up
Nice lesson! Love the Smokin' Joe reference. What a guy! May he rest in peace.
Love the angle you show the neck,it helps me instantly connect and understand the examples.
Great video thanks for sharing this, it’s always good to learn something new even if it’s just a little bit
Thanks Anthony - your explanation was everything! There are many directions to go with this idea.. have a great weekend
Glad it was helpful!
Love your guitar lessons Anthony.
Hey Anthony. 🫡
Looking good, ol' friend. 🙂
Yeah, I agree. The 7th is more suited to dominant chords in a blues and 9ths are great in jazz, soul & Neo-Soul.
It's been a lot of years since I first subscribed. You're still going strong.
Power on brother. 😊
I don't remember if it was BBK or AK who said that playing over the V chord can be the most difficult to figure out because it's only in the progression for such a short time, but it can make the difference between ok sounding playing and great playing. Only two videos into checking out your channel, and I'm already getting impressed with what I see, TBA. Let's what else I find on your channel.
Thank you for a great lesson!!!
This is fabulous,
Thanx a lot!
Great stuff...thank you so much for putting this out for us...
Amazing video!
Amazing lesson!
Thank U!!!
Thanks! Too bad the educational content doesn't get so many views.
It's hard because there's so much high-quality, targeted entertainment content here. When presented side-by-side in this fashion, education rarely wins. Even dedicated learners intending to come here to watch educational content are constantly asked to choose between learning something or being entertained. And since being entertained requires no work or thought, it's just human nature to choose entertainment. It's why schools don't offer students a choice between attending class or watching a movie. Education does best in an environment that limits distractions. RUclips used to be great for educational content because there wasn't much high-quality entertainment here. That's no longer the case, so educational content has to compete for attention with every entertainment imaginable.
@@TexasbluesalleyGreat lesson. Thank you. 👍🎸

My algorithm hasn’t put you in lately. I’ll fix that! 👍
Godsend! 🔥
amazing trick anthony.... !
EXCELLENT...Thanks a lot!
those lace sensors are nice n crisp
Oof, perhaps a bit too crispy. They sound too harsh on the attack to my ears. 🤷🏻♂️
They're actually Lawing Zexcoil pickups. Sensors aren't quite that crisp. He also has them set very high.
Just appeared in my feed, clicked, and subscribed.
Hope this gets some views!
i just started music classes eveningschool, paid 386€ for lessons in singing, Solfège and electric guitar, ill need to detox from the ABCDEFG system and relearn music with the do, re, mi,fa, sol, la, si, system
Kws licks sounds like this too
Anywhere near Lubbock??? ,,,, wynter Johnny,,,parmmm
Hey Anthony what are those pickups on your black strat? Sounds awesome
Those are Zexcoil pickups.
in my opinion, the pattern you teach at 2:27 should be actually be learnt before the position 1 pentatonic scale that everybody always learns first and gets told its the secret to guitar soloing...i think that Hendrixy major pentatonic scale you're doing there is more musical than the other...
Sounds a lot like Stevie Ray Vaughan
Is that a Mike Stone pick you’re using?
Gravity Picks
@@Texasbluesalley are they stone made picks? The clear looks and the tone makes them look hard.
I just wanted to let you know that a Stone pick has a tone of its own. I really like your tone!!
Please check out Mike Stone picks! He has a great vere
Crap! Hit the wrong button. Anyway, check out Mike.
