Basically, America once had Lions as big as Siberian Tigers hunting Bison on a daily basis?? Now I’m really hoping they’re brought back to life so I can finally find a good reason to visit Yellowstone!! I want America to have its own Serengeti again!! 😁😁😁
No, the reason why American lions are so rare at the tar pits is because that they live in open grassland area, same play with the giant short face bear since the tar pits take place in forest, did regions. That’s why we see more of smilodon and the dire wolf and the dire wolf is pretty much found everywhere in the forest and the plains.
Fun fact, South West African Lions are on average a big bag of dog food lighter (bout 20kg than the lightest estimates on the American Lion) and just as big (shoulder heights between 1.2 and 1.4m which is the same as the american lion) and still cruising around terrorizing the bush but they have been classified as a Vulnerable species due to lack of conservation funding
this video is really well put together, and i love the visuals! but honestly, i feel like some of these "powerful" animals might be overstated. like, can we really compare them to modern predators? it’s fascinating, but i wonder if the hype oversells their actual impact in their ecosystems. what do you think?
I just realized something that could turn the whole perception of ornithomimid dinosaurs on its head; they're probably about as every bit as temperamental as regular ratite birds and probably have the same killer death kick as ratite birds. Scary. (censored). ostrich-like. dinosaurs. yo!
Nearly 20 years ago my fam had stopped on a road trip outside an ostrich farm and my mother took a picture of me holding my daughter. It wasn't until we had pictures developed (cuz it was a long time ago) that we saw the ostrich coming up behind us had pure death in its eyes and was going to murder us if we hadn't moved right afterwards
Amazing video! Also, quick request. Could you perhaps do Siats? As it’s my favourite (probably) feathered dino? I don't mind if you’ve got to many on your list!
i love american lion, cave lion and homotherium ❤🇵🇰🙂 and also my favorite dinosaurs 1.t rex 2.giganotosaurus 3.tyrannotitan 4.carcharodontosaurus 5.acrocanthosaurus 6.mapusaurus and also my favorite prehistoric marine predictor 1.megalodon
There's a series by an artist I can't remember the name but it's something about like the evolution of man or the evolution of history and it shows just that what if these animals we perceived to be one way could do other things and it shows triceratops and trees find a way to find it cuz it's amazing I'm sorry my brain isn't letting me find the answer
The part where you said the largest mordern lions is only about 230kg is false there are significantly bigger lions than this, Ive posted a few on my channel the biggest one digitally recorded on camera weighed 247.5kg, 230kg definitely isnt the biggest. The biggest lion in scientific record is a 272kg empty bellied Kenya lion over 600lbs. Ive personally contacted reserves aswell and the biggest one I've gotten so far is 279kg and a witness to someone who seen a lion that weighed a total of 285kg.
But wasn't he specifically speaking about the North American ones and I think the biggest ones were in South America right or was that the short faced bears I'm thinking of
@@TheDinoFax name has nothing to with it, it was named somewhere in the mid to early 1800s... Calling them lions is like calling a tiger or a jaguar a lion, The muzzle size of American lion is too short to be classified as a lion.
@@VeganSanatani No, it is not. Panthera atrox is a direct relative and evolved from the same lineage as the Eurasian Cave Lion and the African Lion's we know today. Lions are not just one specific cat, there have been multiple species of lions.

Double Dido
So one cool thing about the Allosaurus is that due to its relatively low bite force they would slam their top jaw into its prey like and axe
Enjoying these longer videos. Hope you'll cover the Majungasaurus.
Shonisaurus was also in the dinosaur encyclopedia from my childhood.
But in the book it looked like a big fat green balloon with a long pointy beak.
Your delivery of facts with your cadence speech is to so refreshing and I need you in every subject I want to learn about
Can't wait for the Primal Fauna video
Wow love the video and just like you say nature is scary yet beautiful.
Great video, utahraptor were truly amazing and frightening animals. I wonder if we will ever discover a raptor species bigger than them?
I’m looking forward to a Stegosaurus video, if you haven’t made one already!

Weight is the main primary measure of size...
@Harsha Rao nah its a measurement of mass under gravity and has nothing to do with size
@@psykology9299 in biology yes that why trex larger than spino and argentinosaurus smaller than blue whale
@Pierre-Samuel Roux a male giraffe is WAY bigger than a male Rhino but the Rhino is twice as heavy, weight is not an indication of size.
@@psykology9299 ok stay in denial then how do you explain african elephant the largest terrestrial animal now?

i heard that nandong tiger is even bigger than the american lion
But here's the twist... american lions are not lions.😂
They are, in a literal sense, a species of Lion. They are Panthera leo atrox.
