Pavarotti was very just. She's a lovely and accomplished Singer and there was almost nothing to 'correct.' He is also right that she could rethink her Voice classification and perhaps train as a Soprano. As Marilyn Horne once asked one of her Master Class students - 'Wouldn't you rather be a Soprano? More Money. Better Dressing Rooms!'

She had a looooong career at the Met as a mezzo. She started as Cherubino and ended as Marcellina in the same opera.

She seemed to be there just to say she took part in a Pavarotti masterclass rather than to actually be teached by Pavarotti. That or she was too intimidated by his figure to look at him.

    • @thomaslehmanbaritone
      @thomaslehmanbaritone 2 года назад +4

She looked at him at all moments he spoke to her. She is singing for the audience, not him, so why would she look at him? This is NOT how these public masterclasses work. You perform for the audience and the master teacher more or less gives you small notes.
And by the way, she's had a career over 30 years and has taught at the best institutions in the USA. You may want to do some research.

Did you listen to what he said to her?
He PRAISED her - then asked her to work on *1* thing. She made the adjustment, he was pleased.
The Full House auditorium (for whom she was performing seemed pretty pleased also

Beautiful singer - there is a wonderful youtube video of her singing Vado, Ma Dove? by Mozart. This one is interesting - as a young singer she takes it too fast. But the video itself is terribly impaired by the far-too-loud piano.

I’m surprised he didn’t get on her constant movement of her head and shoulders, which is distracting from the words and the vocal line. It’s an inward sentiment not an outward one -not I am crazy, but I’m so smitten, I don’t know who I am right now.

She never looked at the body language of Pavarotti, or his directing hands....with the first pass of the aria, she was only performing.....and his first speaking with her...he was clearly pissed!

He wasn't pissed at all. She was good to go and he knew it. Him conducting along to the tempo given isn't exactly helpful. What on earth can a singer learn from a person doing a simple gesture with a pen. His gestures for a tenuto at the end were absolutely observed by Suzanne, and this is evident in that she's had a career of 30+ years at a very high level and is teaching at the highest level, too. As with any Cherubino, one can suspect they are a Soprano, but she fit her fach for decades.
Your comment and opinion are yours to have, but you are welcome to learn something, too!

Are you familiar with the concept of a Master Class? How its supposed to work?
She's only *supposed* to be performing the piece for the full house auditorium.
He wasn't pissed in any way - did you listen to what he said????
He praised her, and made 1 adjustment to the legato if the opening phrase (Non so piu cosa son) - and he said that unfortunately Mozart set the title in such a way it made it difficult to sing.
